chapter founders
AlphaGam1019 started a thread inquiring about the number of founders each sorority/fraternity had. My question is, how many founders did your chapter have or start out with? The SAE's at UT-Dallas was founded by 13 guys.

30 of us... I'm #5 of that group:cool:
|
The Eta Eta chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma had 120 charter members. I'm one of them :D
|
I think we have 35 or 36 on the charter. I know that 36 of us were initated at the same time. I am Iota Zeta 32.
|
Theta Tau
We had 60+ charter members...I am one of them!
|
Delta Epsilon had 12 founders. One of them is the current chapter advisor. Last year at our 20th 9 of them made it out...that was pretty cool.
|
Gamma Omicron of ASA had 27 awesome, beautiful, kick-butt charter members. :D :D
|
Um, back in 1946, we probably had around 40-50 members (that's a guess, don't know the exact number). That was the year HSU decided to go National with it's groups. I do know from looking at past yearbooks, about half of our chapter was made up of members from the Philomethian Society, and half from the Adelphian Society, which I thought was kind of interesting. Seems like if the campus wanted to go National, the groups would have stuck together. But maybe they just dissolved the groups and let people pick where they wanted to go.
|
I belive Zeta Nu chapter had 25 founders back in 1959.
|
i think the Delta Delta chapter began with a local that had somewhere between 16 and 26 members when Phi Mu colonized in 1926.

While I am bragging, it is a fact.
I wa the Founder of the Local. I designed all of the things that make up a Fraternity, Badge, Pledge pin, flag, Coat of Arms! I got guys that were kicked out of Fraternityys, and guys who wanted to do and start something new that they wanted to try. But, while I did all of this, it took everyone of the guys that I talked into joining to make it to this day! Well I guess I should say that all of the young men who have made it to this day, 33 years and 600 + members since then! This is what Greek Life is all about! Am I proud of being The Founder, you damn betcha I am! I will we going to go to Founders Day one more time in Feb! Will I love being there, you damn betcha!:) Be Proud of what you were, what you did, what you are, and what you will be! |
The Nebraska Chapter, the Alpha Tau of Beta Theta Pi was founded on September 15th 1888.
There were 8 founders, though one never initiated. Harley P. Mathewson (lead petitioner, but never initiated) Oscar Van Pelt Stout (AT #1) Frank Austin Manly Harry Allen Reese Ralph Platt Conrad Frederick Scharman James Boyd McDonald Edward Everett Nicholson |
To colonize Tau Omega chapter had 15 guys, we had between 50 and 60 chartering members, that was in 2000 so lots of them are still active.
|
i have no idea!
|
The Theta Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi needed to be at or around quota to get their charter, so there was approximately 40 women. The chapter was installed in 1990.
Our chapter advisor is one of those founding women. :) |
I don't have a clue either. :( We were a local before Beta Theta Pi & Sigma Nu helped us petition to National Kappa Delta. Where could I find this information out?

There's only two on my charter. Our names were printed. Anyway, I don't consider myself a founding father. NOt in the strictest since. Mine was the last pledge class before iniation (Beta). There was one before mine (Alpha). So, the ones that didn't pledge?? Some graduated before instalation, they are founding fathers but aren't on the charter. I'm on the charter but not really a founding father.
|
My chapter, Delta Rho, had 10 charter members. My Kappa big sister's mother was one of them! Also, her mother's father was the architect for our house.
|
Alpha Iota chapter of Alpha Delta Pi had 20 founders (I think) back in 1920, from the Sororsis Society (which was founded in 1915?). We only had to memorize the one founder, Louise Hetherington.
I had the opportunity to meet with Miss Hetherington several times, and she was a real pistol! I told her that we had made quota, and she said, "You better!" with a laugh in her voice. :) She passed away about 5 years ago, and I felt quite blessed to have met her. honeychile |
One of the requirements for us to get a charter is 55 members, so that means that we will have AT LEAST that many.

Beta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Phi:
10 "original" founders, who were members of the local sorority that became Beta Epsilon. I am one of them :D We were initiated in April '95 as the Alpha new member class. 1 additional woman who joined us early in our new member period and was initiated with us as part of the Alpha class. 1 woman who joined us late in our new member period. She did her new member education over the summer and was initiated just before fall formal rush. She was considered part of the Beta new member class. 10 women who joined us during or just after fall formal rush and who were initiated in November '95 as the Beta new member class. We were chartered immediately following the Beta class's initiation. All 22 of us signed the charter and are considered founders. |

I have no idea. Too bad the house is closed for winter break and I can't get in to count the signatures on the charter. :)
|
The Eta Kappa Chapter of Delta Gamma received it's charter on Nov. 17th of this year (2002) and initiated 76 beautiful women!! I'm one of them!! Yay! Go DG. It's awesome to be in the colonizing class!
|
10...I'm number 1 :) Are Kevin and Tom the only other fraternity founders here? We should talk just to see how our colonies/chapters turned out and see if we ran into anything similar.
-Rudey --I'm running away with the charter when I graduate. |
25 guys, and the President of that first class in 1948 is still our Alumni Corporation President. The guy's been involved with our chapter for 54 years. We have him to thank for us still being here.

LXA was an idea of one man Warren Cole and 3 others.
John "Jack" Mason, Samual Dyer, and Louis Robins. Warren Cole was deactivated/resigned and was not mentionesd for years. But he has since been reinstated by International. Long story! |
We had 3 chapter founders (yay just like National!):
Maryann Pierce, Carolyn Free, and Amy Bown. Maryann was a Delt Sig lil sis, and Carolyn and Amy were TKE lil sis's. If it wasn't for Delt Sigs and Tekes, we would never be! |

Alpha Alpha chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi first started as a local fraternity in 1921 named Delta Kappa Rho, whose intent was to meet the chartering requirements for affiliation with a national fraternity. From the shape of their badge and the letter combinations, their original intent was to affiliate with Delta Kappa Epsilon, but DKE wasn't interested in expanding out west at that time. They petitioned Phi Kappa Sigma, but they were also denied. In 1923, they petitioned Alpha Sigma Phi and on May 16, 1923 the first sixteen members of DKR became the charter members of Alpha Alpha chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi.
Having served its purpose, the motto of the now-defunct DKP was revealed: the Greek initials stood for the English motto, "Death Keeps (its) Rewards". Alpha Alpha remained active until 1938 when its charter was pulled. It was not reactivated until 1948, and remained active in its second rebirth until 1986. It was revived a third time in 1997, but again went dormant in 2000. |
