favorite "slightly older" actresses?

Some days I watch movies and feel like actresses who are over a certain age just don't get a fair break in Hollywood. But it doesn't seem right. Remember how everyone went nuts over how hot Renee Russo was in The Thomas Crown Affiair?

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had favorite actresses who were slightly older? I dont' want to say "old" because most of them aren't. They just aren't 27 anymore.

Anyway, Renee Russo is definitely a fave of mine. Also I love Meryl Streep. I feel like she does an awesome job in every thing she's been in. Did anyone else see Postcards from the Edge? It was hilarious! I'm really looking forward to seeing her in Adaptation. It'll be nice to see a mature actress playing a love interest.

I think Emma Thompson and Maggie Smith are amazing actresses (and Maggie Smith has got to be in her seventies/eighties). i love watching their movies. they seem to get a lot of roles, although EmmaThompson i don't see much anymore. maybe tis' because they're british?

amycat412 12-10-2002 07:47 PM

:) whew. I was so worried I was going to open this thread and it would say Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, etc-- actresses in their 30s. :)

SoProud2BeAnAlphaXi 12-11-2002 02:29 PM

I think Susan Sarandon is just amazing. She's sexy and smart and I hope she continues to get roles for many, many years to come.

AOX81 12-11-2002 02:38 PM

Ditto on Susan Sarandon. :D

MoxieGrrl 12-11-2002 02:59 PM

Hands down.....Jaime Lee Curtis. The reason is because not only is she a good actress, but she did a photo shoot (not sure what magazine) where there was natural light, no touch-ups, etc.... Very brave for a Hollywood sex symbol to do something like that!

NavaneUK 12-11-2002 03:13 PM

Dame Judi Dench rocks!

.....Kelly :)

Second that.

Also I would like to add Angela Bassett. The woman is bad!

KillarneyRose 12-11-2002 03:19 PM

I think Sharon Stone is absolutely gorgeous, and she is pretty under rated as an actress IMO

Angela Bassett: beautiful and talented

Maggie smith was deliciously wicked in "gosford park"!!! I think Cate Blanchett is also in her mid 30's which is only considered "older" in hollywood, but she's amazing as well.

Steeltrap 12-11-2002 05:03 PM

Faye Dunaway now counts as slightly older, as does Catherine Deneuve and Anouk Aimee.

And how about LaTanya Richardson (appears as judge on A&E courtroom drama, can't recall the name).

sigmagrrl 12-11-2002 05:10 PM

They just done turn out too many great actresses anymore. My favorite actress of all time: Rosalind Russell. I think she's passed away, but I love her!

I love Gena Rowlands, Olympia Dukakis, and Holland Taylor.

Exactly what I was thinking! I love her style. :)

Optimist Prime 12-11-2002 05:39 PM

Michelle Pfeifer. She's hot, and because she old and hot, it makes her that much hotter. :)

madmax 12-11-2002 06:16 PM

Gail O'Grady
Morgan Fairchild
Lauren Holly
Ashley Judd

lil_sunshine 12-11-2002 06:26 PM

I love Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Olympia Dukakis, Sally Field, Susan Sarandon, and Faye Dunaway (looooooved her in "Mommie Dearest!!!!" :D )

Those are my rays of light for now. Until next time, people!!!!! :D

justamom 12-11-2002 07:00 PM

I agree with EVERYONE! I do have a few favorites-Russell, Dench and one who has not been listed but was so beautiful, Natalie Wood.
Grace Kelly was wonderful as well, pure class!

Most of the actresses listed (from MY perspective) seem so young!

wreckingcrew 12-11-2002 07:09 PM

Susan Sarandon

Rene Russo

and Beverly D'Angelo ;)

lol Ashley Judd, OLDER?
that's a good one.
:p
She's like 34. May be older to a 20 year old, but believe ME, that's young... CP2000, Killarney, 33girl...help me out here!

OUlioness01 12-11-2002 08:50 PM

i want to add to my list: now dead actresses that i love are Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Wood, and Grace Kelly...and actually, in a couple of the later movies in her career Shirley Temple wasn't half bad.

Optimist Prime 12-11-2002 08:56 PM

Katherine Hepburn is awesome. Was she related to Audrey Hepburn?

sororitygirl2 12-11-2002 10:40 PM

Diane Lane

LeslieAGD 12-11-2002 10:59 PM

No one mentioned Goldie Hawn, or Juliette Binoche!

33girl 12-11-2002 11:20 PM

Come on...Ashley Judd and Diane Lane do not qualify as "older" - they aren't even 40 yet!!

I agree with Kelly, Judi Dench is awesome. Oh, and how about Cher? I still want to be Cher when I grow up.

amycat412 12-12-2002 12:09 AM

Diane Lane is only 36!!! I used to be her assistant and she is so young and fun and upbeat and wonderful, she does not qualify as older.

IMO, 45 and up is where actresses start getting the shaft in Hollywood, so let'ss try and stick to those ages ok.

Amy
hoping i will not see Carrie-Ann Moss, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock and other 33, 34, 35 year olds on this list. One day you all will be iin your 30s too and realize how YOUNG it is!

amycat412 12-12-2002 12:10 AM

Blythe Danner -- my gawd that woman is so beautiful --so classy too.

Racquel Welch too==does she even age? :)

Peaches-n-Cream 12-12-2002 12:29 AM

Sigourney Weaver
Jessica Walter "Play Misty for Me" is a great movie BTW, her mother lives in my building. :)
Maureen O'Hara

Audrey Hepburn and Katharine Hepburn are not related.

You tell 'em, Amycat! Julia Roberts, Diane Lane, Jodi Foster, Sandra Bullock and Ashley Judd, etc. are not older actresses. Are Brad Pitt and George Clooney older actors? I think not.

Tom Earp 12-12-2002 12:32 AM

Damn OLD! What the hell are you all talking about?

Sheeeet you do not have any idea of good or great actress'
Patricia Neal, for one! Ingred Bergram, Donna Reed, ah gawd, the stake in the heart! Cannot remember right now all of them!

DID You ever see movies when there was not T and A.
They were not Beautiful, but they had power of presence of screen!

There is very little acting or presence on screen compared to!

Got to go to bed! Am getting old, ask Imthechump! Also have to work another 11 hr. day!

TTFN!

thesweetestone 12-12-2002 12:47 AM

Sela Ward - she's from my hometown! :)

Betarulz! 12-12-2002 01:02 AM

Madonna and Sheryl Crow are both bitchin'!!! They are both soooo hot.

Morgan Fairchild turns me on too, though I'm tired of those old navy commercials...she should just stand there and not do anything and then I would go to Old Navy.

Jeff OTMG 12-12-2002 03:14 AM

Michelle Pfeifer, Rene Russo, Kim Bassinger, Raquel Welch, Joan Severance

Imthechamp 12-12-2002 03:53 AM

Kristen Dunst, Natalie Portman, Liv Tyler

I think they might be a little too "old" for me though.

33girl 12-12-2002 10:54 AM

Now we know Imthechamp's identity - Joey Buttafuoco. :p

carnation 12-12-2002 01:32 PM

Thanks for the votes for Faye Dunaway and Patricia Neal--both Pi Beta Phis (Florida State and Northwestern)!:) :) :)

I agree--Susan Sarandon is great!

And--some of you just wait 'til you hit 40 and then remember that you said on a public message board that over 30 was old!

Is Sheryl Crow an actress now?

Hootie 12-12-2002 03:46 PM

My dad loves Jamie Lee Curtis. My mom thinks it's funny!

As for me, it's hard to say. What is "slightly older"? I'd have to say I have always loved Julia Roberts and Meg Ryan. I also like Ahsley Judd. Other than that I can't name too many actresses that I like. So hopefully the above three fit into this category!:D

HOOTIE! LOL

Am i "slightly older"? you've seen pics of me... lol Julia is 35. Ashley 34. that hardly qualifies as older.

Meg is 41. I still don't think it qualifies, but i'm on the fence about it, too.

:) Just giving you a hard time...
Amy

dzrose93 12-12-2002 04:41 PM

I like Ann Margaret and Sophia Loren! :)

And 30-something actresses are certainly not "older"! :p I can't wait til some of y'all get into your late 20's/early 30's. The perception of who is "old" and who isn't changes dramatically at that stage!! :D

carnation 12-12-2002 05:39 PM

This is going to sound weird but has anybody else heard the rumor about Jamie Lee Curtis being a hermaphrodite? Someone posted something about it here and AlphaGam1019 sent me a link that indicated there might be some truth to that. Apparently, the rumor has persisted for years and I missed out on it until now.

Odd that the media somehow found out about it.
