Kappa Sig founders day

133 years ago on December 10, Kappa Sigma was founded by five men. They created a fraternity that I'm damn proud to be a brother of. Happy Founders Day to my fellow Kappa Sigs out there.

AEKDB to all of my brothers,
Collin

A happy 133rd and 602nd for an awesome fraternity created by a greek scholar, five friends and brothers, and a golden-hearted Virginian.

Hopefully next month, I will get to call myself a Kappa Sigma brother. But for now, a quote that all Kappa Sigma Pledges, Actives, or Alumni should recognize:

Quote:

Why not, my Brothers, since we of today live and cherish the principles of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, throw such a halo around those principles that they may be handed down as a precious heirloom to the ages yet unborn? Why not put our apples of gold in pictures of silver? May we not rest contentedly until the Star and Crescent is the pride of every college and university in the land!

Happy founders day.

Weird that we share an important date in history, it is Pi Kappa Phi's founders day as well on December 10th.

Pardon my asking, but could some one clue me in to the 602nd European anniversary reference. I looked at your nationals website but didn't see anything...

Happy Founders Day to the brothers of KS! My father and father-in-law were both brothers of your great fraternity -- I guess they still are brothers in the Chapter Celestial.

Kappa Sigma claims its roots in a secret fraternal society established by Manuel Chrysoloras in 1400 at the University of Bologna, where some of Kappa Sigma's founders studied for a time. Reputedly, much of Kappa Sigma's secret work is derived from these Bolognese roots. Kappa Sigma's open motto -- Bononia Docet, "Bologna teaches" -- refers to this history, as do the fraternity's colors: scarlet, white and emerald green (derived from the Italian flag).

That's a pretty good summary, and AEKDB to your father and step-father in the Chapter Celestial.

Essentially, the American Founding of 1869 was a re-founding of an older organization, established in 1400.
