Olivia Fox FIRED from the Russ Parr show?

Someone just emailed me asking if I knew why Olivia Fox was fired fromt he morning show? Is this true? Does anyone know what happened?

Her website says" Due to the decision of management at Radio One, Inc., I am nolonger employed by the Russ Parr Morning Show."

I did not listen to it last week (Thursday and Friday) because I was off of work. Today I knew I heard a different woman, not INDO, but I just figured it was Olivia's day off.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO HIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSS. . . off to the message board.

The Russ Parr Morning Show is now without Olivia Fox. Olivia Fox, co-host on the syndicated morning show, The Russ Parr Show with Olivia Fox, is out. The show recently celebrated six years together. Fox issued this statement to Urban Insite, "Due to the decision of management at Radio One, Inc., I am no longer employed with the Russ Parr Morning Show. I have always and will continue to maintain my position as a woman and I will continue to represent the highest standards as expected of women in this industry. I wish my former co-workers good luck in their future endeavors, and much thanks to Radio One for giving me such an incredible opportunity. Look out for me on a channel in your city........real soon!!!"

Russ Parr told Urban Insite, "Olivia Fox is the one of the most talented people I have ever worked with in radio. I will miss working with her."

I knew you listened, Carla. I am shocked! It seems like this happened very quickly. I did not listen to the radio Thurs or Fri either cause of the snow days:D. But I am surprised. I have read rumors that she had a bad attitude but did she get into it with a celeb on air or cuss out Cathy Hughes? Otherwise, this seems extreme and sudden to me. What a change for that show.

Oddly enough, I joined the Russ and Olivia :( message boards this weekend and there were tons of pics of her there and now all of them suckas are gone. I had finally developed an idea of what she looked like as well as the peanut gallery -- B Plus, LAzy and Supa.

Their show had chemistry. I only heard on average 40 minutes each morning. The few times I heard the extended show I was always in laughter.

Oh well. . .then again maybe this is a marketing ploy.

If you have ever met mrs. hughes YOU would want to cuss her out too!! I didn't listen at all this morning or Friday and Thursday she was holding it down dolo... I on't know what happened, perhaps they were holding their pennies too tight and Olivia wanted more, that is what i am gathering from the article posted and what i have heard about Radio One in general from folx in the industry...

Olivia Fox, the ‘Queen’ of Morning Drive Time, Is Dismissed by Radio One





WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 11, 2002 – Olivia Fox, the popular award-winning co-host of the nationally syndicated Russ Parr Morning Show With Olivia Fox, was abruptly terminated from her job Dec. 6 by Radio One.

Known as the Queen of “telling it like it is,” Ms. Fox issued the following statement: “Due to the decision of management of Radio One, Inc., I am no longer employed with Radio One. I have always and will continue to maintain the integrity of all women. Look for me at a new station coming real soon. Thanks for all the years of support.”

Radio One and Ms. Fox had been in negotiations for continuing her contract, which was scheduled to expire December 2003. Ms. Fox had accepted Radio One’s offer to increase her compensation for next year, but had asked for increases in the years to come that would be commensurate with her contribution to the popular morning show, which was syndicated in some 30 markets, including such major markets as Boston, Detroit, St. Louis, Dallas and, of course, Washington. In the midst of those negotiations, which had been proceeding amicably, Radio One unilaterally decided to halt the discussions and abruptly terminated her employment without cause.

In making her departure, Ms. Fox stated, “I want to express my deep appreciation for all of my loyal fans – the young people, the sisters and brothers, the community leaders and the ministers – everyone who has stood with me over the years. So many called in regularly that in many cases we became good friends. They are the best fans in the world, and I just love them all.”

She added, “I also want to say that it was a pleasure working with Radio One and Russ Parr for the last six and a half years. I want to express my appreciation for the opportunity to work with them and participate in great radio and great times.”

Ms. Fox had worked with Russ Parr on the Russ Parr Morning Show With Olivia Fox since 1996, and she had helped make the show one of the highest rated radio programs in the country, building it from a base at Washington’s 93.9 WKYS to being syndicated to a growing list of stations across the country.

Ms. Fox’s no-nonsense approach was immensely appealing to not only the core 18-34 demographic audience, but also to a broad spectrum of listeners who found her straight talk refreshingly candid as well as hilarious. In particular, women of all ages, but especially the youth, were loyal and avid fans of her edgy, even defiant way of holding her own, giving as well as getting, with Russ Parr and the three other men who joined in the morning drive time chatter about relationships, clothes, personalities, sports and a wide range of other topics.

“My father early on taught me how to ‘play the dozens,’” the St. Louis-native says, “and when you’re on live morning radio you have to be good and you have to be quick.”

Adding to her spunky and outrageously funny repartee, Ms. Fox was also known for her original character voices and catch phrases – including everything from her classic “possum loving trailer park lady,” to “Beggin Benny,” “Big Shirley,” “Sister Butteruh,” Shaneka Shawanna Malika Tawanna Brown,” “Maria Alia Conchita Consuelo,” and her trademark “Whatever Hater.” She was also co-creator of the “Wrong Song” parties and the feature that was extremely popular among her female listeners “Slice of Life.”

In addition to winning the daily loyalty of millions of listeners – many of whom are almost cult-like in their following and are now voicing their displeasure with her departure from the show in e-mails to her website – Ms. Fox helped the show win several national awards. Included among the awards are the March of Dimes award for “Best Morning Drive Show for Washington, D.C.”, being voted the #1 Morning Show in Washington D.C. by Washingtonian Magazine and Impact Magazine’s #1 Radio Personality of the Year” award.

Over the years, the Russ Parr Morning Show With Olivia Fox from time to time came out number one in the Washington, D.C. and Richmond, Va., Arbitron ratings. The Show was recently nominated for the Billboard/Airplay Monitor Radio Award.

As for the future, Ms. Fox has many plans. She says, “I have been thinking about developing a concept for television. And then there is always the possibility of acting on television or in film. But of course, there is a good chance I will stay in radio. She is also a member of the board of directors of the National Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program (MOTTEP), which is headed by Dr. Clive O. Callender, a leading Washington transplant surgeon and chief of surgery at Howard University Hospital. MOTTEP is a national organization committed to the struggle to fight kidney disease through greater awareness and education regarding organ donations and organ transplants.

Olivia Fox is passionate about many things. At the top of her list is “inspiring young people to be everything they are capable of being.” She is also an avowed defender of the dignity of women who may not fit into the ideal stereotype that society has created for them.

Say what you will about Olivia, but it appears to me that she is actively involved in the communuty.

The show this week has not been the same without her. I only listen for the first 35 minutes or so anyway but this week I caught the horoscopes and the WORD and trust me -- Indo you don't have it like Livvy did. I hope she comes on where I will be able to hear her.

I really kept expecting Russ to say yesterday that Livvy would be back on Monday. :(

Aah well. C'est la vie.

Okay the other day I was mad bored and I went back to the Russ Parr website. They have pics up and yall her name really is ALFREDAS. . .eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew, lol.

But get this, ol girl was in Miss Congeniality which I have seen about 100 times. Alfredas is actually pretty. What happened to B Plus and Indo? I do like Shaqwana though.

I haven't listened to Russ Parr since he was in Dallas. His co-host's name was Alfredas when he was in Dallas and she was funny. If this is the same woman, I wonder why she changed her name on the show.

Radio One made a big mistake by firing Olivia. I've listened to Russ n nem when they STARTED in DC. They got better and better. Once Livvy left, the show went downhill. Quickly. Alfredas is NOT funny, and there is no chemistry among them. What happened to B Plus? I can't even listen to the show anymore. I only listen to the Wrong Songs..

Her name is still Alfredas and this is the same woman from Dallas. She annoys me. I miss Olivia Fox.

i too remember alfredas from dallas (my hometown) and that is the same. i remember when she disappeared after that football player she was dating (i can't remember his name) beat her severely.

We just got Russ Parr here less than a year ago and I actually like the show. Of course, I never heard it back in the days when Olivia was on, so I can't compare the before & after. I LOVE the Wrond Songs and sometimes Mr. Telephone Man is cool. Shaqwana is funny sometimes also. "Is it a problem?" She trips me out, but sometimes, the jokes just drag on too far. The chemistry does seem strained sometimes. There are days when the jokes flow, but then it seems like they just need to shut up and play some music.

as soon as i heard that livvie was not coming back, i stopped listening. the show is PATHETIC!!

back in the day, that show used to get me out of bed to my classes. i even still have the prize i won on one of their contests. anyone remember the contest where russ/olivia threw out a word and you had to use it in a complete an accurate sentence? the teacher, i think his name was mr. moore, told you if it was correct or not. i called one morning and won a walkman..lol

i have always liked russ and have been happy for his success, but radio 1 truly lost a number of fans after they got rid of livvie :( .

thank goodness for 96.3 and my digital cable.
