I'll Admit it #?: I actually liked this box office flop
What movies which were box office flops did you enjoy when they left the theater?
GLITTER. It wasn't THAT bad. I have seen worse. WHO'S THAT GIRL? I loved that! (Madonna back in the 80's) DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN (Loved Aidan Quinn) |
BAPS :D -- I cried when I saw it @ the end.
That is the only one @ the top of my head. |
My list....
In addition to Glitter and BAPS:
Double Take What's The Worst That Could Happen Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo The Avengers Weekend at Bernie's |
I LOVED MAJOR PAYNE!! You want me to show you a little trick to take your mind off that pain?
|

Deuce Bigalow was on last night. & Major Payne was a HILARIOUS MOVIE. I'm gonna be on you like white on rice on a paper plate in a snow storm, LMAO |

Def Jam's How to Be a Player. Those chubby boys had me dying.
:p |
Even though I loved the movie, wasn't Love Jones considered a flop? I know I heard it didn't get the recognition or media hype.
|
I liked BAPS, Disorderlies, How To Be A Player, and Blankman.
|
BAPS and Disorderlies are kind of similar, if you think about it. I couldn't think of any others this morning.
Major Payne WASSSSS funny as heck! |
I loved BELLY by Hype Williams. Or is it that I just love Nas....?:D
P.S. I really did lke the movie! :D |
I must say you guys have done a good job of listing movies I loved all of them!
|
I really like Hav Plenty even though everyone else that I know hated it and thought that it was stupid. I thought it was cute and I like the fact that he talked to the audience during the movie.
Also, I liked Center Stage, it just makes me want to be a ballet dancer Blankman BAPS Disorderlies Girls Just Want to Have Fun Rosewood Cadence |
OHHHHHHHHH MY GOSH! Rosewood was great. I actually cried when all those people came out of hiding in the woods. That was such a good movie!
I hope most of these are on DVD. I'd love to purchase them. |

I really liked Center Stage. The lead guy, the teacher is so good. I had to find out more about him after watching that movie.

"Flops" I liked....
Rosewood (which didn't do so good b/c it was competing against Booty Call  ), Booty Call, Belly, Def Jam's How to Be a Player, The Associate (the Whoopi Goldberg movie when she pretended to be a White man), Desperately Seeking Susan, BAPS was alright (I've always seemed to catch the end of the movie for some reason), Cadence (wasn't this the movie w/ Charlie Sheen in a military jail of sorts, and Larry Fishburne was in it?), Get on the Bus (it got rave reviews, but not many Black people went to see it; I saw it TWICE!!!).
That's all I could think of for now. If I think of any more, I'll post them!!! :D |
Get on the Bus was great!
I thought it was one of his best efforts, and it's my fav Spike Lee movie. Also, my man Isaiah Washington is in that movie (he's manly even when he is playing a gay character).
<best in show> "God, loves a terrier" had me cracking up. but the all time favorite line. "We enjoy the same things, sunsets, snow peas... We can spend all day talking or not talking" |
I really love....
Love Jone's
BAPS Hav Plenty Major Payne Get on the Bus She's gotta have it School Daze Fresh Here's my list...I'm sure I'll think of some more later....:D |
Poetic Justice.
I thought Janet Jackson's portrayal of a "home girl" was a tour de force. For someone who grew up under Poppa Joe's thumb, and who lived a very sheltered life, she played the hell out of the gum-smaking Justice. And Regina King is just a really good actress, she makes just about anything she's in better. Low Down Dirty Shame. I don't know, I just liked this movie. Fools Rush In. Again, I don't know, I just like the movie. The Wood Omar Epps, need I say more? |
was it a flop?

Cool Flops
Earth Girls are Easy
was Van Wilder considered a flop??? I liked it. Who's that Girl (loved that film, wow that was back there) Half Baked Dude, Where's my Car Teen Witch (haha, maybe you'll catch it on Disney) Not Another Teen Movie (If you like the 80's teen flicks, this will have you on the floor. If you don't, you won't get this film). Sorority House Party (If anyone knows this film other than myself, I will be very shocked). Teaching Mrs. Tingle Phat Beach (this was a waste of film but I think it's funny) Opportunity Knocks CB4 Drop Dead Fred (if I remember correctly, this was indeed a flop) Dead Man on Campus I bet I can name a whoooooole lot more too but I will spare everyone! |
Pootie Tang...
I admit to it! |
Some of you have listed some other "flops" that I liked. They are:
Love Jones She's gotta have it School Daze Fresh Poetic Justice Low Down Dirty Shame The Wood Teaching Mrs. Tingle Drop Dead Fred Here's a "flop" that nobody listed yet: THE BROTHERS!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D That's all I can think of for now.... |

GIRL that movie gets HEAVY ROTATION over HEAH!!! 'Cause you know that's my babbydaddy (Mo Chest)!!! |

Okay I have liked and have most of the movies that we consider to be "flops". But haven't we all noticed that most of these movies are geared toward the AA community? What is this telling us?;)

How in the HECK did you understand what pootie was saying? That chit got on my nerves after 2 minutes! LMAO! I didn't know The Brothers was a flop either. Gina1201: It tells us that we like to watch movies geared towards the AA community. :D  ;) LMAO |
Love Jones is one of my favorite movies...
Anyway, I liked Just Another Girl on the IRT. |

Same here lil_sunshine.
A recent box office flop I liked was The Transporter. |
And here I thought I was alone!
For some odd, and unexplainable reason, I loved Teen Witch. The rap part was the funniest. Also, I watch Son-in-law a lot. I don't know why, but I think it's hilarious. Also, Bedazzled and Corky Romano. I made some friends watch those movies. We kept rewinding the Sensitive Guy portion of Bedazzled. It was sooo funny!

I liked when he "sang the song" and everyone was jamming. That had me in tears. :D |

AHHHHHHHH YOU ARE BRINGING IT BACK!!! I HAVE THIS ON VHS!! LOL I love that junk! I forgot to list "She's out of control" I used to get on my mothers nerves with that flick. Bedazzeled was a flop? oh ok then add that to my list. Why do I know a guy who IS the sensitive guy from that film? He looks, acts and talks like him. I really think he should sue. |
