What movies which were box office flops did you enjoy when they left the theater?

GLITTER. It wasn't THAT bad. I have seen worse.
WHO'S THAT GIRL? I loved that! (Madonna back in the 80's)
DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN (Loved Aidan Quinn)

CrimsonTide4 12-05-2002 11:15 AM

BAPS :D -- I cried when I saw it @ the end.

That is the only one @ the top of my head.

allsmiles_22 12-05-2002 12:46 PM

My list....

In addition to Glitter and BAPS:
Double Take
What's The Worst That Could Happen
Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo

Dedicated1 12-05-2002 12:56 PM

I loved BAPS too!!! I thought the movie was so cute. :D

Steeltrap 12-05-2002 02:32 PM

Def Jam's How to Be a Player. Those chubby boys had me dying.
:p

Afrochic 12-05-2002 03:49 PM

Even though I loved the movie, wasn't Love Jones considered a flop? I know I heard it didn't get the recognition or media hype.

RedAngel 12-05-2002 05:08 PM

I liked BAPS, Disorderlies, How To Be A Player, and Blankman.

AKA2D '91 12-05-2002 05:30 PM

BAPS and Disorderlies are kind of similar, if you think about it. I couldn't think of any others this morning.

Major Payne WASSSSS funny as heck!

RedefinedDiva 12-05-2002 08:36 PM

I loved BELLY by Hype Williams. Or is it that I just love Nas....?:D

P.S. I really did lke the movie! :D

ykimber 12-06-2002 11:27 AM

I must say you guys have done a good job of listing movies I loved all of them!

ClassyLady 12-06-2002 02:22 PM

I really like Hav Plenty even though everyone else that I know hated it and thought that it was stupid. I thought it was cute and I like the fact that he talked to the audience during the movie.

Also, I liked

Center Stage, it just makes me want to be a ballet dancer
Blankman
BAPS
Disorderlies
Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Rosewood
Cadence

AKA2D '91 12-06-2002 02:29 PM

OHHHHHHHHH MY GOSH! Rosewood was great. I actually cried when all those people came out of hiding in the woods. That was such a good movie!

I hope most of these are on DVD. I'd love to purchase them.

ROSEWOOD was da bomb!! Ving Rhames kicked butt. I need to add that to my video collection fa sho.

abaici 12-06-2002 11:45 PM

I really liked Center Stage. The lead guy, the teacher is so good. I had to find out more about him after watching that movie.

A couple of favorites, Office Space and Best in Show

Best in Show was hilarious!!! I watch it every time that it comes on HBO. It was so stupid but that movie was really funny. Especially the song in the end, "Bow Wow!"

lil_sunshine 12-07-2002 12:15 PM

"Flops" I liked....

Rosewood (which didn't do so good b/c it was competing against Booty Call  ), Booty Call, Belly, Def Jam's How to Be a Player, The Associate (the Whoopi Goldberg movie when she pretended to be a White man), Desperately Seeking Susan, BAPS was alright (I've always seemed to catch the end of the movie for some reason), Cadence (wasn't this the movie w/ Charlie Sheen in a military jail of sorts, and Larry Fishburne was in it?), Get on the Bus (it got rave reviews, but not many Black people went to see it; I saw it TWICE!!!).

That's all I could think of for now. If I think of any more, I'll post them!!! :D

abaici 12-07-2002 07:18 PM

Get on the Bus was great!

I thought it was one of his best efforts, and it's my fav Spike Lee movie. Also, my man Isaiah Washington is in that movie (he's manly even when he is playing a gay character).

<best in show> "God, loves a terrier" had me cracking up. but the all time favorite line. "We enjoy the same things, sunsets, snow peas... We can spend all day talking or not talking"

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 12-07-2002 09:13 PM

I really love....

Love Jone's

BAPS

Hav Plenty

Major Payne

Get on the Bus

She's gotta have it

School Daze

Fresh

Here's my list...I'm sure I'll think of some more later....:D

Miss. Mocha 12-07-2002 09:20 PM

Poetic Justice.

I thought Janet Jackson's portrayal of a "home girl" was a tour de force. For someone who grew up under Poppa Joe's thumb, and who lived a very sheltered life, she played the hell out of the gum-smaking Justice. And Regina King is just a really good actress, she makes just about anything she's in better.

Low Down Dirty Shame.

I don't know, I just liked this movie.

Fools Rush In.

Again, I don't know, I just like the movie.

The Wood

Omar Epps, need I say more?

AKA2D '91 12-08-2002 12:39 PM

was it a flop?

Crooklyn
Low Down...http://greekchat.com/forums/ubb/icons/icon14.gif

showstopper_1908 12-09-2002 04:09 AM

Cool Flops

Earth Girls are Easy

was Van Wilder considered a flop???
I liked it.

Who's that Girl (loved that film, wow that was back there)

Half Baked

Dude, Where's my Car

Teen Witch (haha, maybe you'll catch it on Disney)

Not Another Teen Movie (If you like the 80's teen flicks, this will have you on the floor. If you don't, you won't get this film).

Sorority House Party (If anyone knows this film other than myself, I will be very shocked).

Teaching Mrs. Tingle

Phat Beach (this was a waste of film but I think it's funny)

Opportunity Knocks

CB4

Drop Dead Fred (if I remember correctly, this was indeed a flop)

Dead Man on Campus

I bet I can name a whoooooole lot more too
but I will spare everyone!

FanCy 12-09-2002 08:05 AM

Pootie Tang...
I admit to it!

lil_sunshine 12-09-2002 01:26 PM

Yeah, Belly was definately tight. I actually bought the movie I liked it so much. Rosewood was a flop??? The Brothers??? What are these people smoking?

Gina1201 12-09-2002 03:40 PM

Okay I have liked and have most of the movies that we consider to be "flops". But haven't we all noticed that most of these movies are geared toward the AA community? What is this telling us?;)

I loved this one too! This movie was so funny! The white dude who rapped through the whole thing was the best. "Stop that, top that, you don't really wanna, wanna try to top that."

Let me add to my list

Fools Rush In
The Worst Witch
Vegas Vacation
License to Drive
Dead Presidents
Trapped in Paradise
Honeymoon in Vegas
Raising Arizona

I didn't know The Brothers was a flop either.

Gina1201: It tells us that we like to watch movies geared towards the AA community. :D  ;)

Me too!!!!! I remember my uncle had the tape for the longest and I never got around to seeing it! I was happy when I finally did, but some of the events in the end  me and I was like WTF??? But I still enjoyed it nonetheless....

Kisha 12-11-2002 03:00 PM

Same here lil_sunshine.

A recent box office flop I liked was The Transporter.

abaici 12-12-2002 02:09 AM

And here I thought I was alone!

For some odd, and unexplainable reason, I loved Teen Witch. The rap part was the funniest. Also, I watch Son-in-law a lot. I don't know why, but I think it's hilarious. Also, Bedazzled and Corky Romano. I made some friends watch those movies. We kept rewinding the Sensitive Guy portion of Bedazzled. It was sooo funny!

I used to get on my mothers nerves with that flick.

Why do I know a guy who IS the sensitive guy
from that film? He looks, acts and talks like him.
I really think he should sue.
