FORGOT which GLO she was in during college!!??!!
today my boss says to me.. "you know, i used tobe in a sorority in college. i forget which one.. kappa something or other. kappa something phi i think.. this little symbol here... like a triangle. at plymouth state"
now those are my letters and we have a chapter at plymouth state.. turns out she's one of my sisters. BUT shes only 30. she doesn't remember the name of her sorority. oh my god, who does that!!! after we talked for a few she remembered our secret motto and stuff.. then a co worker was like "oh i was in one too!! kappa kappa something.. what was it again?" i asked if it was kappa kappa gamma, and she was like "OHHH YES thats it." thats two people at one place of employment. then i hear a story from my room mate that her boss was in a fraternity and couldn't even remember ANY of the name of his because "it was just all getting drunk". is this a common occurance??? WTF! i hope that my glo means more to my chapter sisters and national sisters thant hat.. eek. |

Wow...that's like forgetting what college you went to, for crying out loud!
|
:::shaking head due to so many different emotions:::
As a non-Greek who would like to BE Greek and is working toward that goal, there are so many ways I could reply to this I can't pick just one........... Adrienne :( |
yea.. that's a major bummer.. i can't believe that!! how do you FORGET?!
|
She must have been knocked in the head a few too many times during those sexy sorority lingerie pillow fights :p
|
Maybe early onset of alzheimers. That really is sad, however it says more about them than Kappa.
|
Some people just don't take being a greek seriously and it is very sad....I have great pride in my sorority and would never forget it's letters...
|
To play devil's advocate...
Maybe she was only a plege or only active for a few months. It's not just with locals either. My friend is a ZTA and she could care less. Some people just don't care about being Greek after college...But that attitude is instilled while still in school, so maybe this is the area that needs to be focused on. |
That's a pretty big thing to forget!
|
Yeah, I don't buy the excuse that not caring makes you forget. I could care less who my third grade teacher was, but I remember her name, and that was only a year.
Now dropping out after a brief, and I do mean brief, period of membership, that's more believable. Anyway, I guess you do have to believe these women when they say "I WAS a member," because it sure wasn't a lifelong thing for them! |
I can't believe that, my mom was an ADP in college and she's like fifty. She's was never an extremely active alum, but she CERTAINLY remembers (and stays proud of) her sorority and sisters. She has told me that she does not remember all the secret stuff, but that's understandable. But she would NEVER for get that she is and ADPi.
My dad on the other hand, was in a local GLO where he went to college for 2 semesters. And I can't pull anything out of him about it. From what I understand, he wasn't even initiated (which makes me happy because that means he can be alumni initiated into Pi Kappa Phi once we get our charter). But forgetting that I can understand. (Although, I'm not sure I would even forget that) As for me, I would not be in an fraternity unless it was something I was proud enough of to remember it at least 10 years after I got out of college. |
More than anything else, i feel sorry for people like this.
I'm eternally gratefuly for Sigma Nu, i've made some great brothers and had some awesome experiences. I will always remember my affiliation, and while Ritual may fade from memory over the years, the principles on which it was founded will always guide my life. I feel sorry that not everyone gets the same out of their GLO's. It makes me more and more thankful i made the right decision. Kitso KS 361 times i'd choose Sigma Nu if given the choice again |

Now, if they pledged and then dropped a week later, well then, that's a different story. |
neither of my parents ever joined a fraternity, but my father remembers the name of the one he ALMOST joined, as well as some of the men who were in it. My father's best friend was a FIJI at my university and he still talks about his time there extremely often. i can't imagine not remembering the name of your GLO. That's like forgetting a part of what makes you the person you are (and i can say that because i can look back to last year before i pledged and i have changed a lot)
|
I've heard of people forgetting, but I can't imagine how they do it. Of course, I was a total gung-ho-born-to-be sorority girl, so I guess it's different for me...
|
Wow, that's sad (that both of them were so clueless)!
I've never met anyone that forgot what GLO he/she was in. On the other hand, I've met people who were never in a GLO but remember the name of the one that the girls/guys down the hall were in or that was next door to them, etc when they were in college 20+ year ago! |
You're gosh darn right it's not a reflection on Kappa, there, missy!
In my humble opinion, Kappa is absolutely un-freaking-forgettable! ...And if I ever should have a memory lapse, I have this nice little tattoo on my ankle to remind me! |
Maybe she never really joined at all, but just remembered something about some group in college, and claims to be a member! Just to be like, Oh yeah, I was in a sorority too (NOT!)
|
Soon after joining Alpha Phi, I came home one weekend to visit and stopped by my mom's office to tell her I was in town. I used to work next door to my mom's office, so I went to visit my former boss. I mentioned to her that I joined a sorority and she replied with, "I joined one of those in college. Um, I don't remember the name. What's the name of your sorority?" I told her, "Alpha Phi." She said, "Hmmm, I think it was Phi something or other." ooookay!! She even pronounced it "FEE something." She isn't an Alpha Phi b/c there never has been a chapter at the university she went to. So yeah, I just said, "Oh really?" and left it at that. I don't get it! How can someone forget?? I honestly don't understand!
