breast enhancement

so i have to ask what everyone's thoughts are on breast enhancement and breast reduction.
i myself have a very large chest and want to have breast reduction surgery. i've researched it greatly and have found out a lot of goods and bads about it.

goods - i can run and be more active, no back problems, no more increase in shoulder indents from bra straps, possibility of more sensation, both of them would be the same size

bads - deformation of breasts, loss of sensation, the fact that it is major surgery

thoughts, comments, etc. welcome

I think the risks outweigh the benefits.

OUlioness01 12-04-2002 11:39 PM

i know quite a few people who have had to gert reductions...they say the benefits outweigh the risks

James 12-04-2002 11:53 PM

Augmentation sounds good to me . . .

Also, if people sneer about real vs. fake. . . well if I can touch them they are real enough for me. . .

DeltaSigStan 12-05-2002 12:00 AM

I myself need to get my boobs reduced, but that's all a matter of exercise and diet.

I agree James. I don't know why the big deal over Britney's boobs being fake or not, they're still nice and I'd still like the use them as a pillow and live there forever in hapiness and tranquility.

librasoul22 12-05-2002 12:01 AM

If it is healthier for your breasts to be smaller, I say go for it.

valkyrie 12-05-2002 12:17 AM

How big are they? I mean, are they gargantuan so you can't function? If not, I would say leave them alone. I have a friend who had breast reduction surgery, and she said that it was the most PAINFUL, AWFUL thing EVER in the world. Plus she had to have a tube hooked up somehow so that she could empty the fluid after the surgery. Gross!!

If you're having problems running or with shoulder straps, I would say that you might want to look for better bras. I have no problem running because I found some awesome bras that totally mush the girls so they don't bounce. It's not pretty, but it works!

Anyway, breasts are fun! Sure I can't wear little strappy tanks or baby tees, but I wouldn't trade them for anything!

Hootie 12-05-2002 12:22 AM

A friend of the family had their daught go through the reduction surgery WHILE she was in high school. I never noticed how big she was, but I suppose if they're in the way and causing problems such as back pain, then it would be benificial to go ahead and do it.

I've always thought about getting implants myself because I'm not terribly big. However, I know my mother was flatter than an ironing board and once she started having children they got a lot bigger.
My ex's sister on the other hand had pretty decent sized breasts I guess before she had Grace and then afterwards she lost a lot in size. So I guess there's no written rule

Optimist Prime 12-05-2002 12:58 AM

I like big titties. Nothing wrong with that.

valkyrie 12-05-2002 01:06 AM

Ohhh, I read on that other thread where you mentioned that you wear a G cup. I didn't realize that when I posted earlier, but now I see more where you're coming from -- I can definitely understand how that would be big enough to interfere with your life. Do you think you're going to do the reduction?

For me, the easiest breast reduction is losing a few pounds. That's what I want to do right now, because I just gained a few and it goes right there. It's annoying.

As for fake boobs, I really don't have an opinion and it's a pretty foreign idea to me since I couldn't even imagine wanting larger breasts. A friend of mine had hers done, and they do look nice. They're very, very perky -- I think you can tell when breasts are fake -- I'm not saying that's bad, but you can kind of tell. She has another friend who is this tiny, teeny little thing, and she went out and got these gigantic breasts. That just looks funny -- if you're going to get them, at least have them look like they fit with your figure.

G8Ralphaxi 12-05-2002 04:41 AM

James - great comment. you sound just like one of my good guy friends. "if i can touch them, they're real!"

I've had friends go thru both types of surgeries. The one who got the reduction was SO happy. she was having major back problems before. after the surgery she felt and looked a lot better, it was easier to find clothes to fit, etc.

My roommate just did the augmentation this year. I took care of her because she didn't tell her parents (long story). She totally underestimated how painful it would be. She felt like CRAP for days. Percocet is only so good. Couldn't really move around much for a couple weeks. her whole chest area was pretty swollen for awhile too - you know the doctor is cutting and pulling apart the muscle wall and shoving a foreign object in there. your body does NOT like that. but the swelling really freaked her out because they looked a lot bigger than she wanted them to be at first.

Now, a couple months later, she's happy she did it. They look really good. but that first month absolutely sucked. it's definitely not something to be taken lightly.

AchtungBaby80 12-05-2002 09:41 AM

Alphaiota, I sure don't have the same problem as you, but a few of my sisters do and they say it's horrible! One of them is getting a reduction soon.

On the subject of boob jobs, I know someone who recently got it done and it doesn't look too good. Maybe they will, you know, sort of sag over the years and start to look more normal, but now they just look like balloons attached to her chest! :p I had to bite my tongue to keep from saying, "You spent $4,000 for *that*?!?" Now I think I'd rather just have a small chest than "doctored" ones...

alphaiota 12-05-2002 03:46 PM

yeah like valkyrie posted i have a G-H cup (depends on brand of bra) and would like to have them reduced to a D-DD cup.

you're very right, losing weight does tend to help the *problem*. i've been told that no doctor will do the surgery until i'm down to a "proper" weight, which seems silly cuz the whole reason i'm not very active is the fact that it hurts my boobs when i run, but whatever.

so i've been working out and eating properly for the last three months. how much have i lost? 10lbs. that's right....a mere 10lbs. although i do weight train a little. none of the weight has been out of the boob area. but at least my jeans are getting loose.

another thing, my insurance will most likely pay for it too cuz it's causing medical problems.

the funny thing is i am nervous about doing it mostly b/c i'm worried i'll look fatter afterwards. it's silly cuz i'll be losing the weight and the size, but i'm afraid i'll look disproportioned. odd i know, but i've had them this big since i was in middle school so i don't know what it is to be normal sized. i also won't be able to do my party trick anymore. :D

alphaiota 12-05-2002 03:47 PM

oh yeah, i've also had like 4 sisters get it done and they couldn't be happier. pain wise, well, not much of an issue. i have a very high pain threshold.

I have several friends who have had it done and absolutely RAVE about how much better they feel. I plan on having a reduction done next spring/summer when I can get two weeks for vacation time. I'm sick of back pain, shoulder scars and them just being in the way! I WILL be a C cup:D

Optimist Prime 12-05-2002 08:34 PM

:D I hope everyone will happy with their new tits!! Good luck.

sororitygirl2 12-06-2002 12:01 AM

I'm so sad when there are girls that don't like their chests! I love mine... it's just perfect! :)

Anyway, it's true that sometimes people who are a little bigger do look sort of disproportionate when they get reductions... like almost too pear-shaped.

However, I can understand that if your breasts are super-larege, you would want it for health issues.

I say go for it!

Optimist Prime 12-06-2002 12:42 AM

Girls who happy with body image are better than mopey chicks, no matter what the cup size.

AXO_MOM_3 12-06-2002 01:34 AM

"I hope everyone will happy with their new tits!! Good luck!"
Optimist Prime, you are too funny!

ROTFLMAO!

SATX*APhi 12-06-2002 01:52 AM

I've considered getting implants, but people tell me I'm crazy. The one thing I'm terrified of, though, is coming out with "balloons" on my chest, like AchtungBaby80 said happened to her friend. There is such a thing as too perky. Haha.

Hootie 05-09-2003 01:25 AM

I want them

sororitygirl2 05-09-2003 01:29 AM

I say more power to your bad selves... reduce them, enlarge them, do whatever makes you happy.

I mean, I still stand by my comment that it is sad that people aren't happy with their bodies, but if surgery can make you happy, go for it (after much careful research and thought).

But, sometimes surgery still won't make people happy, they just find something else they want to change next.

:(

alphaiota 05-09-2003 08:28 AM

well, for me it's a matter of "dorsal health". i have such bad back problems at this point that it would be beneficial. although i'm scared about what i'll look like after it's done. this sounds funny to everyone else, but i'm afraid i'll be too small, even though i'd only go down to a D or DD. sounds silly to everyone else, but for me it's not. i'm more proportioned right now oddly enough. the large chest balances the large hips and stomach. i don't know. someday.

DZHBrown 05-09-2003 08:45 AM

I had a breast reduction when I was 17 and would definitely do it again. I had an awesome plastic surgeon and my scarring is minimal. If you need any advice or have questions, feel free to PM me.

As for breast enhancement, I think it's better to go natural. There aren't health risks in which you need breast implants, whereas breast reduction helps your back and makes mammgrams easier to read, so I think breast enhancement is vain.

Kevin 05-09-2003 08:55 AM

It's very necessary that some women do the breast enhancement thing. I've literally seen it get them jobs. That's in TV though. Might not be the same in other fields.

MoxieGrrl 05-09-2003 08:59 AM

I have a friend who had breast reduction surgery. She said she felt 100% better physically & mentally. Plus, she lost of a ton of weight due to it. It made her look smaller overall.

Fake boobies......hmmm....before I would get into feminist mode and say, "NO!!! That's so horrible, etc..." Now, I kind of want them. Don't know why.....just do. I'm a perky 34C and would like to maybe be a D. Anything else might be crazy. But I really won't be able to wear tanktop/baby tees anymore. Ok, maybe it's not a good idea. LOL

ilovemyglo 05-09-2003 09:32 AM

Well I am getting reduction after I have children. I wear a size 4 in pants, but I am a D for 2 weeks a month and a DD two weeks. My boobs walk into a room mintues before I do. I get called a hoe because people think they are fake. I have the same size since I was 14!!!
And for whomever said just buy good bras-
I DO! I spend more $ on bras than tops and such. I buy nothing but good underwire bras that have good straps. I am short, though, so on some of my bras I have to take the straps up. UGH!
I hate that people notice them, because over time I have grown accustom to them. I look funny in bathing suits because I just have these things.
At work I wear suits and such, but if I try to wear a nice blouse, it gapes and that is not professional.
I just want a 34 C. That was a perfect size!!! I can't wear tops like I like, I can't wear dresses like I like, but if I was just a little smaller I could! :)
Maybe after kids.
For girls wanting to get smaller/larger I don't think it is always about body image. i like my body, I just wish I could do more activites (like learn to swing a golf club) without these things in the way.

AOX81 05-09-2003 10:08 AM

I have three friends who are seriously considering breast reduction. I completely support them. They shouldn't have to walk around with constant backaches and indentations on their shoulders from bra straps!

alphaiota 05-09-2003 10:23 AM

yeah, and those indentations don't go away after you get the surgery. they are there for the rest of your life.
as i said in the beginning of this thread, i'm a GG or H (depends on brand of bra, like i can really find that many different brands)
so i find it necessary, but very scary. i don't want to be disproportionate in the other direction. basically have big hips and a small chest. i've had a chest this big since i was a frosh in hs. i honestly think i'd cry if i lost them. but i'd love to know what it's like to be able to cross my arms in front of me or buy bras straight off the rack. stuff like that. right now i can't even really consider it though. my insurance is so obnoxious that i can't even get a stupid minor procedure covered without them questioning if it was necessary.

oh yeah, was it true for any of you who've had the procedure that you need to be at target weight before you have the surgery. i was told that i probably wouldn't be able to have it done b/c i'm overweight. that the doctors would tell me to lose weight first. (although that's a catch 22 of sorts. i can't lose workout much b/c it just hurts to do most exercise w/ these things, but i still need to lose weight?)
any truth here?

Ginger 05-09-2003 11:12 AM

I will be having enhancement surgery within the next two years. Due to health issues in my youth I never went through a true puberty, and therefore never developed. As it stands right now, I have a AA chest.

I've been through a lot of hell with body-image (my health problem mentioned above was severe anorexia), but in the last years, I've really become very happy with my body and have gained a lot of weight back. For me, getting the enhancement will be sort of "correcting" what should have been... if I hadn't starved myself all those years, I would have developed normally. Having a flat chest is just a reminder of all the damage I did. So I'm definitely looking forward to being able to wear all the cute shirts that are out there instead of shopping for tops in the little girls' section :)

FiReKraCkEr 05-09-2003 11:19 AM

I still dont understand the need for breast augmentation...Why exploit what you were given by nature? Unless it is because of health issues, I feel that all this plastic surgery BS is just a quick fix to some insecurity issues. Believe me having big boobies is not the greatest....

However, on breast reductions...if it is affecting your health, as a big chest does, I definatley say go for it. Maybe I could relate, but I know how it feels to not be able to run (without an extra tight sports bra), not being able to fit into certain shirts, and being googled at by men (and by boys). I have been working out for the past 6 months and I'm a size 8-9, and but they won't freaking go away...no matter WHAT I do. I dont think I will get a reduction, cause I'm not too big (38 C/D), but I could sympathize.

CutiePie2000 05-09-2003 12:26 PM

Since you are considering Breast Reduction, I know 4 women who have done it and they are elated with the results.

KappaStargirl 05-09-2003 04:22 PM

I had a breast reduction in college, and by far it was the best decision I've ever made in my life. The scarring is minimal, and I'm so much healthier and happier now. Yes, there were drains, stitches, some yuckiness in the first few days, but it was so worth it. I had no complications at all, and can now life a mostly normal, active life (where before I couldn't run, etc.). It had nothing to do with my weight, btw...I was 5'4", 120 lbs, and a 34DDD. It was just a matter of me having breasts that were too large for my frame and causing me a myriad of physical problems, 90 percent of which went away after my surgery.

If you want to know more, PM me.

DZHBrown 05-09-2003 08:28 PM

And that right there explains how pathetic our society is.

PrincessPhiSig 05-09-2003 08:58 PM

I feel that if your health will benefit and you will get the chance to do new things, then by all means go for it. I have had friends who had breast reductions and they were never so happy...and relieved!

On another note, I feel that implants can be ok. None of my friends got implants to go bigger, but one got augmented because of a huge difference in size between the two. I don't exactly approve of going out and getting really big knockers but hey, it's not my decision to make. :)

aurora_borealis 05-10-2003 11:48 PM

alphaiota-
My step-sister had a breast reduction and it made all the difference in her life as far as physical activities and buying clothes. She felt out of balance on top because the poor dear got no butt, unlike the rest of us.

As for the exercise thing, I don't know if you're comfortable going swimming, I can never keep the straps on my shoulders, but that is low impact chest wise. Also for cardio you can try a recumbent bike. You are sitting down with your legs in front of you and since you are sitting, less jiggling and pain. I used one after I had foot surgery since I was not allowed to bear any weight for 4 months on the ball of my feet, so I could pedal with my heels.

ZTAngel 05-11-2003 12:44 AM

I have seen a friend of mine go through an augmentation and another go through a reduction.

My friend who had the reduction was "5'1", 105 pounds, and an E cup. She had a difficult time finding clothing that fit her and she was spending $60 per bra to have them specially made. Not to mention the back pain she suffered. We were required to take a PE in high school. I remember she had to get a doctor's note that said she was unable to run because of her breasts. She would sit on the side of the track while all the students would snicker...they all pretty much knew the reason why she was excused from running. Her 18th b-day present from her parents was to have a breast reduction. It was definitely painful for her. I've heard that it's more painful to get them reduced than enlarged. But, she's so much happier now. Her body is more proportional, clothing fits her, she can buy regular bras, and she doesn't have to deal with any back pain. I know that it was definitely worth it for her.

A friend of mine got a breast augmentation when she was 19. It was because of a dramatic difference in size between her breasts....one was an A while the other was a C. For years, she was so scared to date guys for fear that the relationship would go to that next level where she'd have to take her bra off and let her boyfriend see her chest. She didn't have the confidence to date until after her breast augmentation. She was in pain for a few weeks but I know that it was worth it for her. She's so much more confident with herself.

Sadeyes21 05-11-2003 11:31 AM

WARNING : My mom's friend was suppossed to get breast enhancement this month, she just went in and the doctors told her they could not do it because they found some precancerous cells. They have done a biopsy and now my mom's friend just has to wait to see how bad it is. She cannot get a breast enhancement now. She also had to sign a form and on it it said that mammograms have crushed implants before. Anyway, if you get a masectomy then you CAN get breast implants, but otherwise you can't when precancerous cells our found because the silicone makes it harder to detect problems.
So, I 've wanted breast implants since I'm an A cup, but both of my grandma's had breast cancer and I'm now afraid if I get implants when I'm older I won't know if I have cancer because the mammogram won't detect it.

alphaiota 05-11-2003 04:50 PM

yeah, the bike thing, doesn't work for me. my knees go straight into my boobs and hurt just as much. i have been doing a water aerobics class lately, but it's not doing much. at least i'm getting some exercise though.

i just don't know. all the friends and people yall have been talking about are all thin. and yes i think they should have by all means gone through with the surgeries, but i'm not like them in that way. when i say i'm overweight i mean i'm like a size 22/24. my boobs are just a little more than proportionate to the rest of my body. i really don't want to end up looking like my mom when i'm done. granted she's 52 and has had two kids, but still, she obviously has a larger bottom half than upper. again, we'll see.

also, about the implants and finding precancerous cells. that is just one of the many reasons they have switched to saline instead of silicone. first time patients cannot have silicone put in. they have to go with saline. in your particular case i'd avoid getting them, or only get small ones.

on a lighter side of things. i was at a comedy club the other night with my cousin and some friends. the comedian let the audience ask questions. so i was drunk and asked if he thought i should get breast implants, just for shits and giggles. he then went into a 10min. bit about my boobs. okay, just had to tell yall that one.
