Who Do You Look Like???

This morning, the doorman of my building told me that I look like the lady that plays the principal on the Steve Harvey Show. While I think she's a cute woman, I don't see the slightest bit of resemblance. So, that leads me to the following questions:

1. Have you been told repeatedly that you look like someone that you actually agree with?
2. Have you been told you look like someone and you were actually kind of offended?

My answers...
1. I'm ALWAYS told that I look like the woman that played Nina Moreno on NY Undercover (a black version, I guess). What's crazy is that I really do see the similarities.
2. Now, about 6 years ago, LOL, I was told that I look like Anne Marie Johnson (I think that's her name). The lady that played on In Living Color and In the Heat of the Night. I was so hurt! We look NOTHING alike and she really annoys me. Clearly, that one struck a nerve with me.

Before I get called out, I do remember a thread similar to this in another forum and I SEARCHED, but couldn't find it.

Gyrl7 12-04-2002 12:11 PM

The only person that comes to my mind is Elise Neal.

Also Ann Marie Johnson is not unattractive, she just needs a bottle of WEIGHT ON because she is a bit too thin I think. She can also be seen on the tv series that is featured on Tuesday nights on CBS called JAG!

lovele1978 12-04-2002 12:35 PM

I have been told since High School that I look like a younger, thinner Faith Evans. I have to agree that there is some resemblance, ok, a lot of resemblance but hey I dyed my hair red first!!

Gina1201 12-04-2002 01:06 PM

Well people used to tell me that I looked like Coko from SWV, but the only connection that I could see is that we both have long nails and long faces.

Second, everyone is the world thinks my best friend Shawna and I are twins. We don't think we look alike, but EVERYONE, including family members tell us that we look alike! At first it was okay but now it's just gone too far! Or well, at least she's not ugly then those would be fighting words!

exquizit 12-04-2002 01:11 PM

Claire on the Cosby Show. Folks have told me that all through high school. I think it's just cause I have a HUGE smile.

Ideal08 12-04-2002 01:13 PM

Anne Marie Johnson used to also play on that show, Double Trouble with the twins! I used to LOVE that show!! "Lika my mama alway say..." anyway, this thread is not about her, lol.

I have been told that I resemble Nia Long. We look NOTHING alike. She is little and petite, I hardly fit that bill. I think it's the eyes, that's what a soror told me. This dude told me it's the personality. I was like, um, you don't know her... whatever. Also, Regina King. We don't look anything alike, either. I think it's the characters they've played. Though I'm nothing like them, either, lol.

1savvydiva 12-04-2002 01:53 PM

People started saying that I looked like a young Aretha Franklin when I took my senior pictures from high school. They always told my grandmother that because she had a HUGE picture in her living room. I see the resemblance in her YOUNGER days, but now...PLEASE DON'T TELL ME I LOOK LIKE RE-RE...(have you seen her lately?)

Me too!!!!

Shelacious 12-04-2002 02:33 PM

While I'm always looking like "somebody's cousin", the two folks I can recall that people say I have looked like are Dawnn Lewis (from A Different World) and Lisa Leslie, center for the LA Sparks.

I think people said Dawnn because we have similar smiles (wide) and maybe similar eyes.

I was in Puerto Vallarta a few years back and the Mexican guys at our hotel were saying "Lisa Leslie, Lisa Leslie, come here." What was doubly funny was that one of the guys we were with they said looked like Michael Jordan (darker skin, bald head) and my other friend was told he looked like: AC GREEN . Worst though, my girlfriend asked them "who do I look like?" There were blank stares all around! :D

Folks think I probably look like Lisa because I have long hair, and long legs, (although I'm pretty short) we're around the same skin complexion and our lips are kind of similar.

OMG me too!!! I've been told I look like their older sister. Every new job I go to someone ALWAYS says "hey...you look like the sister sister twins." I've been hearing that since the show started.

Afrochic 12-04-2002 02:55 PM

I've never been told that I look like a celebrity, but I'm always looking like "somebody's cousin" also. I just want to know, if I look like so many cousins, why haven't I seen any of them on the street? http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung/...fragend008.gif

librasoul22 12-04-2002 03:02 PM

People are forever telling me I look like Alicia Keys. Just last month in a club a drunk guy followed me around calling me Alicia.

Personally, I see it VAGUELY but that's about it. I think it might be more the mannerisms and the voice...my voice IS very similar to her speaking voice (not singing, lol, I would be a rich mofo).

I have never been compared to someone that would offend me, lol.

evaclear04 12-04-2002 03:26 PM

I'm not Gina!

If I hear that I look like Tisha Campbell one more time... I might just have to put the smack down on someone! I think that it's only because we are about the same complexion and we both have wide smiles:D. But I don't have an "Apple head". I think she a beautiful women but there's no resemblance.

CrimsonTide4 12-04-2002 03:42 PM

Back in 95, I was told by one of my kids in Upward Bound that I looked the mother in Lean On Me -- you know the one who says, "I can't take care of her no mo."

I LOOK NOTHING LIKE HER!!

Ok you are cracking me up with the 'Apple Head' statement! :D

I've always been told that I look like Queen Latifah. This guy actually told me that this weekend. They used to call me Kadeejah back in school.
I remember I was walking down the street one time and this guy walked passed me and starting singing 'UNITY'. :o
Then when I would wear my hair braided back they would call me Cleo...oh hayle naw!
But it's cool though...I got love for the Queen! :D

oneinamillion 12-04-2002 05:31 PM

I've been told on some occasions that I resemble Whitney Houston. I used like of that.....don't know how to take it today!!!!

Kisha 12-04-2002 05:43 PM

People tell me I favor Nia Long and Malinda Williams. A lot of friends and family call me Nia or Byrd.

yasava 12-04-2002 06:02 PM

No celebrities, but I get the somebody's cousin thing a lot.

My cousin's ex used to tell me all the time I looked like the girl down the street except I didn't have the lazy eye. I was like, huh?

A lot of people in high school used to say me and this other girl looked just alike. I didn't see the resemblance until graduation when we took a picture together (we were pretty good friends) When I saw the pic of us in our caps and gowns, I was amazed to see that we did favor each other.

I guess my boyfriend and I have been together for so long that people say we look alike.

Steeltrap 12-04-2002 06:19 PM

Man better reck-on-eyes

No celebrities for me.
The other day, however, our neighbor's houseguest came up to me and started saying "hi baby, hi baby."
I was  because frankly, I don't get approached like that in my neck of the woods.
He apologized -- he mistook me for his wife, who has a similar colored car.

Free Mr. Clark!:D

I don't think I look like anyone famous. NoworNever has her own sexy unique look;) :p

Diva7401 12-05-2002 01:46 AM

....HALLE BERRY MARRIED TO VIN DISSEL???

OK, I was a senior in high school and this guy that I worked with told me that he had seen a movie over the weekend and that it was a lady in it that looked JUST LIKE ME....

He was so SURE about this "twin sighting" that he offered to take me to the movie so I could see her for myself....

The movie was Spike Lee's JUNGLE FEVER...so I'm watching the movie and I'm like where is she at? Then came Gator's (Samuel Jackson) Crack-Head Girlfriend VIV (Halle Berry) stumbling down the block and this guy was like THATS HER!! SHE LOOKS JUST LIKE YOU!!(if she was cleaned up)

Needless to say I was a bit taken aback at the tought of being mistaken for a crack-head! ....However, when the CLEAN Halle returned in Boomerang....it was on! Everyone was calling me Halle B. and I was like: HAAAAYYYY! My popularity rose 10 fold!

So here I am 10 years later married to a guy that is OBSESSED with Halle Berry....COINCIDENCE??

So, yes people still tell me that I resemble Ms. Berry and I consider it the upmost compliment.

PS. Everyone is calling my Hubby "VIN DISSEL (sp?)" these days.....He's happy because they used to call him KID from KID N' PLAY!

NewBee 12-05-2002 09:46 PM

I can't really think of anyone famous that I look like but its weird because I have this painting of a gypsi that everyone swears looks like me. People thought that I had myself painted in costume but my mom picked it up from a dollar store or something. But the resemblence is kinda scarey...

jojapeach 12-06-2002 05:05 AM

At least once a week, I hear, "Ooh, you look like Jill Scott! I love Jill, so it's definitely a compliment. There is a similarity in the face and smile, and when the afro is out, I hear it all day long.

I get that same syndrome of looking like somebody. "Do you know so-and-so? Y'all could be twins." I actually had to enlighten some HS children and let them know that all big girls really don't look alike. And why is it that you always could be so-and-so's sister/cousin/etc, but you NEVER see that person yourself?

smurfette1908 12-06-2002 12:58 PM

Girl aint that the truth!

I get the same remarks when I sport my afro. "Dang there go lil Jill Scott right there!" I am like okay so we are both thickins, we both have natural hair and we are the same complexion. I guess this is all someone needs to make a comparison though. Oh and because I attend the poetry cafe EVERY thursday night to break them off with a little something something....
We don't look alike to me though Jill Scott IS beautiful! I just think that people automatically think that if you cute, thick, and got a fro, you must be Jill....whatever....

ykimber 12-06-2002 01:47 PM

People tell me that I look like Laura Winslow. That makes me so made because my newphews and nieces seem to think I ask like her!

ClassyLady 12-06-2002 02:40 PM

People tell me that I look like Nia Long all of the time. I don't like it because I don't see the resemblance. She is a very pretty girl but I really don't see what other people see. Actually, last month, when I was in Atlanta, some guy thought that it would be a great way to try to talk to me by hollering "Hey, Nia Long, Nia Long. Yeah, you. You look like Nia Long, let me talk to you." With such a suave approach, it was so hard for me to say no.

Afrochic 12-06-2002 05:21 PM

It sure is a lot of Nia Long look alikes roaming the streets. :p Where are the folks that get mistaken for Whoopi, Jimmie Walker, Shabba Ranks, Bobby Brown, where are those look alikes?

Bamboozled 12-06-2002 06:01 PM

LMAO @ you, Afrochic. That is so funny that you brought that up. The other night, I was hanging out with one of my boys and his friend and his friend's little brother. Well, the little brother was pretty quiet and reserved and seemingly lacking self esteem. So, we stop to get some pizza and as if this was his first time really looking at him, my boy said loud as all get out, "Damn Bamboozled, doesn't he (the little brother) look JUST LIKE JJ?" I mean, he said it right in front of his face! And he was looking at me expectantly like I was going to say, "Yeah, he does look just like JJ." And he just wouldn't let it go. He was even asking strangers walking by. I really wanted to laugh because he does look like JJ, but I know that poor boy went home and cried.

MsAKAdemics 12-06-2002 08:09 PM

Although I don't agree, people have told me I look like Lynn Whitfield....

justconvinced08 02-15-2003 02:37 AM

resurrecting this convo because i have a funny story

i've been told I look like three people...
when i was young and extremely skinny people told me i looked like ann marie johnson--i was OFFENED!!!

my best friend thinks i look just like the girl from the Glenn Lewis videos--I can live w/ that. (i can see the resemblance)

lastly...after the premiere of Beloved a lady came out of the theatre and caused a scene...you would have thought that she was oprah herself the was way she was looking at me shook, shocked, and wide eyed...she even introduced me as Beloved to all her friends and other strangers like that was my name...i think the actress's name is Thadie Newton--I don't see it...but again...I can live w/ that!!!

Why were you offended? Ann Marie Johnson is pretty in my opinion. She's in need of a few cheeseburgers, but pretty nonetheless.

cinamin1 02-15-2003 09:42 AM

I've been told that I look like "Niecy" from Moesha.
 I don't think so.
When I see her, I dont see the smart, sexy, innovative young lady i'm often referred as.

but i'm am a source of comic relief....

Rain Man 02-15-2003 04:48 PM

Well, back in high school folx said I looked like James Bond III (Monroe from School Daze). He also starred and directed the Troma B-movie Def by Temptation.

About that same time another group of folx said I looked like Dwayne Wayne--I don't see the resemblence there.

A third group said I looked like Terrence Taylor (Col. Taylor's son on A Different World).

Nowadays I don't think I look like any celebrity or TV/movie charactor--I'll have to defer to Crimson Tide 4 to give her 2 cents on that since she has seen me in real life.

SkeeWee14 02-16-2003 12:12 AM

Way back in the day people used to say that I looked like Brandy whenever I had braids. I was offended by that one because I thought that her eyes were too far apart making her look like a hammer head shark. My eyes are not far apart at all. Then I had a boyfriend who always said that I looked like Holly Robinson Peete (Sp?) from Hanging With Mr. Cooper. I've also been told that I look like Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child (when she was wearing her hair in the short flip style).

Jody 02-16-2003 01:07 AM

...my twin sister, people are always getting us confused!....:o

Hey another! I get Lynn Whitfield all the time. I was at a dinner party once and "A Thin Line Between Love & Hate" was on tv. One frat kept looking at the screen and then back and me, then at the screen again. It was too funny because for the next half hour he called me Lynn Whitfield. Now whenever he sees me he calls me that. I have a friend who looks even more like her. People think we are sisters.

I used to get Janet Jackson when I had braids in highschool. That offended me, I don't find her attractive at all. Rather frightening in fact.

I often got Aaliyah from highschool all the way through college. Especailly when I wore my t-shirt with a picture of her. My family even thought I had a t-shirt made with a picture of myself on it! I agree with that one, but it makes me a little sad now.
