Whats everyone's midnight song?

Hey whats up Everyone this is an ASA and I was wondering what everyone's midnight song is and what you do for it?[COLOR=red]

sfasammy 11-30-2002 02:52 AM

What's a midnight song? Is it something like a sweetheart song?

AlphaAngel02 11-30-2002 02:59 AM

The midnight song is what your chapter does at Midnight to celebrate yer brother or sisterhood. It's usually done at Formals, Mixers, Crush Party, Wine and Chesse, Bid Day, Retreats anything where the whole chpt. is together as whole and it's midnight.

Kevlar281 11-30-2002 03:32 AM

Not necessarily at midnight but we are very fond of Yogi or Yo Hoe.

33girl 11-30-2002 01:16 PM

not necessarily at midnight, but ours is/was Paradise by the Dashboard Light.

DigitalAngel126 11-30-2002 02:06 PM

LOL Yo Hoe kills me, I love that damn song...

vukkg 11-30-2002 03:28 PM

Our song is Paradise by the Dashboard Light too!! Who would have thought such a crazy song would be so popular!!

AlphaAngel02 11-30-2002 03:38 PM

Thats crazy my midnight song is Paradise By The Dashboard Light and my pledge class song is Lean On me. During the song our sorority becomes like a mosh pit and everyone goes crazy.

SilverTurtle 11-30-2002 03:39 PM

Not really a midnight song, but many Phi Betas would always attend the open parties that Phi Mu Alpha held on campus. Every time I stayed until the end of the party, they would close it with "American Pie" by Don McClean (sp?). It'd pretty much be a bunch of Sinfonians and Phi Betas and we'd all be singing and sort of dancing/swaying together. More a friendship between the 2 groups celebration, but memorable!

ZTAngel 11-30-2002 04:11 PM

Our's is "These are the Days" by Natalie Merchant. We change the lyrics around a bit to fit our chapter.

Betarulz! 11-30-2002 04:13 PM

Again, not necessarily at midnight, but it's Piano Man by Billy Joel

HotDamnImAPhiMu 11-30-2002 05:28 PM

Yo hoe?

PSK480 11-30-2002 08:36 PM

well not quite a midnight song, but our's is "Come Sail Away" by STYX

wow, STILL? :) It makes me feel better to know that SOME things at Clarion don't change!! :D

sororitygirl2 11-30-2002 09:17 PM

What is "Paradise by the Dashboard Light?"

OUlioness01 11-30-2002 10:22 PM

it's not exactly our midnight song, but everytime we're all together and we hear "Living on a Prayer" we'll stop everything. that's why it took 10 minutes longer than necessary to do our bid day pictures

ksig600 11-30-2002 10:32 PM

My chapter does our own version of Sweet Home Alabama, and Area Codes...substituting Ho's for Bro's

dphies00 11-30-2002 10:46 PM

"Paradise by the Dashboard Light" is a cool, looooooonnnnngggg song by Meatloaf where he describes how he made it with some girl in the front (or back?) seat of his car. It's a funny song.

For the Deephers at Pitt, our get ROWDY song is "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppord. Even during between rounds at rush, I put on the song and we would get up on the sofas and scream the words. Effective way of letting off steam. And then, our official chapter song is "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper. Usually, at every social event, we make a huge circle and exclude any guy there and just cry.

I think every sorority is cheesy in that way with one song. It's like the black pants rule - you can't be a true sorority girl without one. :D

DigitalAngel126 11-30-2002 11:43 PM

We don't have one per say, that we do all the time.. but the two org's I hang out with do...Theta Xi's is American Pie...and ATO's is Piano Man...

Suppose I could've added that to my last message, eh? ....

It's a Pi Kapp song. I’m curious to how DigitalAngel herd it since we don’t have a chapter at Ball State. Possibly at the Alpha Psi Chapter at Indiana University? Anyways like I said it’s a Pi Kapp song that is generally not sung in front of women due to its lyrics.

Peaches-n-Cream 12-01-2002 01:48 AM

At the end of formals, we played "We are Family" by Sister Sledge but substituted D Phi E for family. We also played "Celebration" by Kool and the Gang.
My pledge class song was Meatloaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" with different words.
Well I remember rushing D Phi E as if it happened only yesterday.

AlphaAngel02 12-01-2002 03:32 AM

well like i said ours is paradise by the dashboardss light and it's amazing the ASA's gets crazy and we love it even tho it's long and my fav is at formal and the pikes at my chpt is piano man and i'm sosd so i love it cuz i'm in the circle n they serenade us..sorry kinda hammered right now

Hi Kevlar281,

Did your organization originate the song? I ask because Chi Phi's at Humboldt State University sing the song as well. However, they don't care if there are any women around or not, they just sing away! By the way, I think others sing it also (not sure).

-No Shame

sfasammy 12-01-2002 05:23 AM

So that's what a midnight song is! We have our own version of Mitch Miller's "Drunk Last Night" as our midnight song.

Kevlar, almost every fraternity at my school has it, and they ALL sing it in front of women. seranadings at my school are usually more dirty than anything else. I know it cou;dn't even have begun with Pi Kapps here because to the best of my knowledge we've never even had them on our campus.

I heard it on a weekly basis, still do :) They're not afraid to sing it in front of us...in fact, we all know the lyrics (well, those of us that practically live at the house), and we even chime in on the 'yo hoe's'.... Always a good time, always a good memory ;)

Yes I am sure there our similarities considering it’s a rather old drinking song but I promise there has been much revision and personalization. Just like how Pi Kappa Phi’s ‘The Rose’ has a very strong similarity with a sweet heart song of Sigma Chi’s, since they were both based of a Navy Song. Either way Yo Ho or Yo Hoe depending on how you spell it; has been known and recognized at a National Conference so I have no problems referring to it as ours.

PsychTau 12-01-2002 12:37 PM

In my chapter it was always "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett.

texas*princess 12-01-2002 03:38 PM

LXA

My significant other is a brother of Lambda Chi Alpha, and everywhere I have gone, LXA chapters get down to "Magic Carpet Ride" every chance they get... would that be considered their "midnight song"?

queequek 12-01-2002 03:50 PM

Ole song ;)

wreckingcrew 12-01-2002 04:19 PM

Ours is Freebird.

It's dedicated to our brothers that we've lost throughout the years.

Some of my best memories are at the end of events, all the bros with arms interlocked, swaying and singing it.

We've got quite a few chapters who do "Yo Ho" as well...TKE, SigEp, Phi Sigma (used to be Phi Sigma Kappa), Sigma Pi, Sigma Tau Gamma, etc...

SigKapQueen 12-01-2002 05:50 PM

the all time favorite song in my chapter is "i will survive" by dianna ross. we just had our formal on saturday and when this song came on, we kicked all of the guys off the dance floor and the girls who werent dancing went on the dance floor and started to sing with us. we were singing by the top of our lungs. its just so great how strong my chapter's sisterhood is.

maggieaxid 12-01-2002 07:12 PM

ours is "oh what a night" and my pledge class's is "like a virgin"... the class before mine was "glycerine" and the class after mine was "mo' money mo'problems", of course we have AZD words to them!

we always sang "sweet caroline" to the Lambda chi's....its some kind of strange tradition. and their song was "magic carpet ride"

Beryana 12-01-2002 07:30 PM

The local I was a member of had "These Are Days" as its song. The Alpha pledge class had "Respect" as its pledge song.

Harmony 12-01-2002 11:13 PM

My chapter is very big on "Living on a Prayer" and "Build Me Up Buttercup." Not at midnight per se, but we'll drop what we're doing, find each other, and belt it out whenever we hear them.

GtownGirl98 12-02-2002 01:19 AM

southern pride

The songs that we circle up to at formals and mixers are/were
1. Give me that "nut" (this was the colonizes song, not many of the other classes like it, but that is okay)
2. Sweet Home Alpha Gamma (you can always hear the chorus)
3. Devil Came Down to Georgetown (we have other words to this song, made up by some colony members, but we don't sing the true words in mixed greek company)

I don't understand why we don't sing our words but it has something to do with trying to be very PC (panhellenically correct).

This was a great thread, glad someone thought of it!

dixiesong3131 12-02-2002 01:48 AM

Not so much a midnight song....

"Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC is definitely our Phi Mu chapter more "modern" chapter song. I love it- but no matter how hard we try we can never remember the full second verse lol.

For our Lip Sync this year, the women's recruitment counselors (aka Rho Chi's, but not anymore) took all the women's "midnight" songs and did their own routine to it... the only songs i remember are Shook Me, We Are Family (for the Alpha Phi's) and Build Me Up Buttercup (for the DZ's). Good times :o)

MoxieGrrl 12-02-2002 10:31 AM

During my era, our chapter song was "I will survive." Some of the older girls loved "American Pie." And the other one.....*hanging head* is "The Call" by the BSB. :)
