NEW Sorority Life
Hello Everyone!
I just wanted to share with you an e-mail that we (Phi Sigma Sigma) received along with every other greek org. on our campus. Message: Hi, my name is Lauralee Jarvis and I am a researcher for the next season of MTV's Sorority Life and Fraternity Life, to shoot in the spring of next year. I was wondering if there are local/independent fraternities and sororities on your campus who might be interested in being a part of the next season. Please send me contact information for the local organizations or feel free to pass on my e-mail address and have them contact me directly. If you are local fraternity or sorority that is receiving this e-mail and you are interested, please send me some background information about your organization (number of active members, website information, philanthropies, activities, etc.) and about your university (location, surrounding cities, size of the school, etc.). If you are a national organization, sorry to have bothered you. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at my office: 716.837.2644. Thank you for your time, --Lauralee Jarvis MTV Sorority Life and Fraternity Life |

I never saw anything from the first season, but I heard it was pretty bad.

Would I be correct in guessing that after that season, should those ladies wish to affiliate with a NPC sorority, they would get turned down?
|
That would be a sucky piece of snobbery if so . . although I do admit that you sorority women seem strange to us fraternity men at times . . . LOL.

I was just making that assumption based on the fact that I'd been told that they sort of hazed their pledges.
|
i wouldn't say it would be impossible for them to be NPC someday, just terribly, terribly difficult.. i think they're pretty happy doing what they do, anyway.
|
I don't think I would have been able to stand doing that show. As it is, I hate being videotaped on my best days.
|
The Good, The Bad, or The Ugly!
What has been on threads before about MTV does not put Greek Life in a very good perspective. Never watched it myself! But if was a downer, I would work my butt off to get to them and rip and roar. I do not meow when it comes to giving the Greeks a bad spot light!!!! We do not need help like that! |
*shrug*
I received the same email. My fraternity actually got an interview, though it's been almost a month since. I doubt we're still in the running to be selected. |
If you ask me, these reality shows are getting out of hand.
|
What would a national do if a NPC Sorority chapter decided to take MTV's offer?
And what are they afraid of? |

I think all the NPCs have told their members do not even think about it. I'm fairly certain that if any chapter decided to go ahead and do Sorority Life over their Nationals objections that the chapter would lose their charter and the members who participated disaffiliated. |

I get the feeling that what MTV is looking for is the stereotypical sorority, not ones that actually uphold the values of their founders.

I watched the entire season....and....
It was just horrible! It protrayed all GLO's in a negative way! It only showed how drunk they seem to always get and it definately showed how divided the entire pledge class was. Was that MTV's point? know one knows. but it really made them look bad and i would think that is Nationals consensus is to protect ones reputation.
By accepting an invitation from MTV you are opening yoruself up to total personal/chptr. humilation, and ruining any chances for respect from National GLOs... but that is just my humble opinion and 2 cents worth for the day. Know i am only a Alum Initate, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what would trash ones rep. if your local and wanting to someday be affliated with a National GLO! Laura |
I think the sisters themselves came off (relatively speaking) better than the pledges. It was quite obvious that a couple of the pledges were just there to get on TV (Jordan, I'm looking at you) and had no interest in sisterhood or understanding why there were rules to follow.
The guys in Fraternity Life are supposedly petitioning to become Sigma Chi, but I don't know if that is still on. |
Yeah, reality TV shows are getting out of hand.
yeah the show sucked Big Floppy Donkey D... (insert South Park insults here). But If they select a group of girls that do something other than bitch at each other this time I will gladly watch it. I hear ΣAEΠ is actually doin' pretty well after their 15 minutes of fame, mebbe it does local GLO's some good. |
Has the Fraternity Life series started already??
|
Yeah, when does it start? I missed the first season but I'd like to watch at least a few episodes this year...
|
I think they both start in February and they are going to show them back to back.
|
I found this link saying which groups were chosen:

Hey y'all
I don't understand all the big fuss. I am not currently in a GLO, but i watched some of the shows. I really don't think it showed sorority life in such a bad light. Sure they showed girls who went out and partied, but from what i took from it they did this before. Being in a sorority or being greek in general had nothing to do with the way they acted. Everything on MTV is so...fake. I am sure most of the time those girls got a long just great, but MTV edited to make it interesting and watchable. If anything i found it to be humorous, because i know that's not what being greek truly is... I mean do you really care what somebody who takes MTV programming seriously thinks ?? You shouldn't... But hey that's just me...Just telling y'all isn't not as bad as it's seems. You have to admit, though, you found it a little humourous because it was so ridiciously inaccurate. |

Hmmm. I think that's interesting that they inquired about philanthropies...... Considering they didn't even MENTION anything about philanthropies in the last season. Too busy focusing on the cat fights and the drunkeness, I suppose. ~sigh~ Personally, I can't wait till this whold reality-tv phase is over. |
if you're interested in doing sorority life, just BE CAREFUL! remember what you thought about those girls, and the lack of respect that they displayed. MTV is going to do whatever it takes to get the ratings up, even if they totally trash your greek unity. best of luck to you, and your greek community!!

For me personally, I don't think I could accept a bid from a GLO if it meant being filmed 24/7 by MTV. |

I checked out the website too. I don't understand why these girls want to do this. They seem to be doing just fine on their own.
Does anyone remember what school the S-AEPi girls went to? I'd like to see if I can find their webpage. |
The Sigmas are at UC Davis.
Their website is http://www.sigmaaepi.com Except for some new photos, this site hasn't been updated in quite a while (at least not since May as far as I can tell.) Adrienne :) (edited for spelling error) |

The Sigma AEPi's also have a Pbase web site...
http://www.pbase.com/betastar/sigma The one thing I noticed is that Jessica and De De are in a few pictures but Amanda and Candace appear to be no-shows. |
I saw the show, anda fter a while it got to be veyr annoying. MTV is going a little too far with the reality shows, the ones they have on the air are just fine (Real World, Osbournes, ect.) Those are entertaining, but bringing a sorority in, and showing what they do all over the world is going way to far. This show could have made or break this sorority. This new one could be a big mistake. Most of the girls who rushed obviously did it for the cameras, and that did not look too good. Plus MTV played it up s omuch, after they got initialted there was no more house, no more trips to stay in a luxury suite in Vegas. I hope that this new show is not as bad as the first one.
