bad habits?

we all have them, some of us don't admit it but we all have them...bad habits...*gasp*

i was just wondering what sort of naughty things people do...

me? i'm an incessant picker...i pick at my cuticles, i pick at scabs...it's nasty but i can't help it (i'm sure SOMEONE will understand!) i bite my nails too, which is the NASTIEST habit ever but i can't stop that either!

what do you all do? hmm?

Kevin 11-26-2002 09:34 PM

Probably my worst thing is that I constantly interrupt people.

ZTAngel 11-26-2002 10:14 PM

Biting and picking at my nails. I've been a lot more conscious of my habit lately because I want to have longer nails. But, my nails to tend to just break on their own now because they're so weak from 21 years of picking at them.

James 11-26-2002 10:22 PM

Procrastination . . that has to be my VERY worst self destructive habit.

Everything else so pales in comparison, I'll write about them later ;)

Me, too!

chopper816 11-26-2002 10:40 PM

biting and picking at my nails, i know its sick, and i gotta stop!!! i think it might be harder to do that than to quit smoking (which I dont do thankfully).

greeklawgirl 11-26-2002 10:47 PM

Chalk one more up for the procrastinators! ;)

KappaTarzan 11-27-2002 12:05 AM

procrastination, DEFINITELY..
i also have a tendency to be TOO laid back.. ie: eh i have to be to work 25 minutes away in 10 minutes.. better get goin, huh? :) hehe

AOX81 11-27-2002 09:24 AM

Re: bad habits?

I'm a picker as well...scabs and me don't mix. I have so many little scars on my body from all the scabs that I have repeatedly picked over the years.

bucutie02 11-27-2002 10:05 AM

I have a bad habit of saying "what?" even though i heard the person and answer them before they are finished asking me the question again

ZTAMiami 11-27-2002 10:57 AM

I bite my cuticles.
I can't stop. I know its gross!:(
I also can't keep my hands away from my hair. I'm always twirling it, smoothing it, brushing at least 1x an hour.

MoxieGrrl 11-27-2002 10:58 AM

I smoke....bleh.....and tend to listen to people but be looking all around the room or doing something else when they are talking. I'm a child of the multitasking generation. :p

valkyrie 11-27-2002 01:56 PM

OMG, I had no idea there were so many other cuticle biters/pickers!! We need to start a support group. I have been picking and biting my cuticles as long as I can remember. It's awful, and my hands look awful, although I do have nice fingernails (I don't touch them, just the cuticles). I'm really bad with it when I'm driving or nervous, or bored. It's terrible.

The only time I ever stopped was when I had acrylic nails for about three weeks -- but I'm not about to get acrylic nails again.

crystalline 11-27-2002 04:02 PM

I pick, I bite, I scratch, I procrastinate. I do all sorts of nasty things, without which I don't know what I'd do. :D

Unregistered- 11-27-2002 04:22 PM

Where do I start?

I'm a chain smoker :(
I cuss a lot.
Procrastination's my specialty.
I live on caffeine.
Logging on to the internet when I wake up, when I'm at school, when I'm at work, after work, before I go to bed, etc.

God...I suck.

I do that too! I'll stop someone in mid sentence and just talking about whatever I want to. It's so rude but I still do it.

Dionysus 11-27-2002 10:04 PM

*I interrupt people
*If someone bores me, I'll redirect my attention elsewhere
*I pick at nails
*I fall asleep durning boring classes, meetings, and church services.
*I occasionally burp out loud
*I sometimes have a mouth of a sailor man
*Procastination
*I'm extremely impulsive

Rio_Kohitsuji 11-27-2002 11:31 PM

*tear at my nails
*cut off people mid sentence
*swear too much
*I have to talk to people constantly to stay at the center of attention
*when I wrestle around, I bite..
*pinching
*I either look people into the eyes for a long period of time while talking to them or never make eye contact and look everywhere else
*....and procrastinate

Imthechamp 12-01-2002 09:15 AM

Can it be possible to be perfect?

If not...I'm pretty close.

FAB*SpiceySpice 12-01-2002 11:18 AM

I bite my nails/cuticles

I talk too much sometimes and I interrupt people a lot

I am soooooo forgetful too, it sucks! :(

And I am also a HUGE procrastinator

tinydancer 12-01-2002 12:13 PM

Well, I was going to write in right away and say I procrastinate A LOT.

But I decided to wait until later...

RubberSoul 12-01-2002 03:07 PM

I bite my nails if I don't have acrylics on.

I play with my ear (I know, sounds weird. It has to be cold, though, and if my own aren't then I try to reach out and grab hubby's ear, which he HATES. It is a carryover comfort mechanism from childhood that I cannot get over, mainly because my mom always indulged me and let me do it to her.)

I chew on the inside of my lips and cheeks. I am going to give myself mouth cancer. Although I see a lot of other people doing this, so maybe not.

I have developed a habit that annoys the piss out of Brent. I take my fingers and push my lip up when I am deep in thought or watching TV and zoning out.......makes me look like I have no upper lip.

I grit my teeth

I sound really gross and annoying, don't I!!!!!!!!!

annice22 12-01-2002 11:20 PM

My bad habit is...

My bad habit is bitting my finger nails and it gets really bad during finals week.

annice22

XOMichelle 12-02-2002 12:11 AM

nail biters

We need to get together and find a way to stop our bad habit. I tried about 6 years ago to stop biting my nails and only was able to half stop biting the nails, and start biting my cuticles. I run around with bandaids on my fingertips all the time.
I've started painting my nails constantly to make me stop. I mean, if they look nice, why try and mess with them?

-I also have a tendancy to talk waaaaay too much, and cut people off. I've been trying to talk less and listen more. Sometimes I will begin to cut someone off, and have to stop myself and apologize.

Rubber Soul- OMG! I used to play with ears too. My mom made me stop in preschool (at the tender age of 4) because I would annoy all the other children during storytime by sitting next to them, sucking my thumb and pulling at their ears. lol! So, I totally understand, earlobes are really soft! (ok, that makes me sound like a wierdo, but hey, it's true.)

Okay, I'm bumping up this thread because I seriously need help. I have to stop biting my nails and I need as many tips (no pun intended) as possible. Here's the deal: I can usually freak myself out easily by telling myself I am going to get sick my putting my fingers in my mouth. This usually lasts for a few months and then I bite a nail off and it's all downhill from there. I can't have fake nails put on because the chemicals I deal with at work will melt them off. Has anyone gotten over their habit of biting their nails? It's been a habit for almost 23 years.

Please help me.

Hi, my name is Jadey.
I bite my nails.....
constantly. :(

lawryn 08-21-2003 09:55 PM

Let's see...
I always bite my nails
I'm addcited to cleaning my ears with a Q-tip...lol
My room is super messy but everything else in my life is super organized and if its not i will redo it until i get it right even if it takes me 20 times...

Peaches-n-Cream 08-21-2003 10:01 PM

Maybe you could get or give yourself manicures regularly. Your nails will look so pretty that you will not want to bite them. Additionally, I have heard that they make something that you can put on your nails that makes them taste really bad. I don't know the name of it.

Allie 08-21-2003 10:48 PM

I smoke :(
I only drink soda :(
I wax my eyebrows once a week :(
I have a cuticle obsession, I don't bite them but I cut them like everyother day :(
I have two volumes loud and louder (Like on My Big Fat Greek Wedding) :(
I always put my two cents into a conversation, just to play devils advocate and make people REALLY think :(
Oh and the worst, I'm honest I tell people the truth even if it hurts :(

OUlioness01 08-21-2003 11:55 PM

i still sleep with the blanket my parents got for me when i was a baby. of course, i use it instead of pillows because pillows are just too big.

Jadey~ can you just paint your nails? i used to bite mine for years. i never wanted to bite them whedn they were painted and it tasted bad if i forgot. then you can always put bandaids on each fingertip. it's gross but it might work.

MeLikey 08-22-2003 01:39 AM

I'm the biggest procrastinator in the world-- not like I'm proud but I did write a 20 page paper the night before going to Acapulco for Spring Break and between power naps and packing in the morning, I finished it and ended up with an A, beating my friends who started theirs in advance.

I always need to have perfect ponytails when I'm going out somewhere... I could care less when I'm walking around the house, but if I'm going somewhere they need to be smooth and perfect on the top, on each sides, and in the back. This takes a very long time and everyone teases me about them, but they do say I have perfect ponytails... and yet everyone always tugs at my ponytail.

I tweeze my eyebrows a few times everyday. I get them waxed when I want a cleaner shape and if for some reason I didn't get around to tweezing them. It's just to keep them clean underneath-- I hate the little dots that start forming so I tweeze them before they grow.

I only do this with my parents and sister, but if we're in a store and I lose them, I just yell out "Mom!" or "Dad!" or my sister's name-- not really loud but louder than a speaking volume. It's not so much bad as just funny... because I'll just do it even though I don't see them in sight anywhere but just out of habit it comes out.

I used to do it, but I don't do it anymore, my mom's the worst though, she does it all the time... she'll say "WHAT?!" and no more than 5 seconds later she'll answer the question. I'm like why bother asking what then if you obviously heard me!

MeLikey 08-22-2003 01:44 AM

Oh yeah, forgot to add that I change the radio stations way too much... drives some people crazy.

nucutiepie 08-22-2003 01:38 PM

I procrastinate
I am literally addicted to diet coke
I interrupt
I oversleep all the time

GeekyPenguin 08-22-2003 06:20 PM

I procrastinate and I pick scabs.

Jadey28 09-20-2004 07:29 AM

I stopped biting my nails!!!! Yeah! I know it sounds silly, but it's really a big deal to nail biters. :) I thought I had tried everything to make myself stop....and then my friend got me this stuff to put ontop of my nails. It's called No Bite by Orly. If you've tried other topical treatments and they didn't work, I highly recommend trying this stuff. Usually, I could adjust to the awful taste, but this crap pretty mush numbed your tongue and the taste lasted for a few minutes. It is mentioned in this month's Allure magazine.

If I can stop biting, you can too! :p

AXiD Sweetie 11-04-2004 05:00 AM

That's awesome! I can't stop biting my nails. This sounds odd.. I pull out random strands of hair, usually when I'm bored. My hair is SO thick though...

My friend pulled out her hair and gave herself a bald spot. It turned out that she had a form of OCD called trichotillomania. She went to the doctor when someone told her about this condition. The doctor gave her medicine and her problem went away and her hair grew back.

emleepc 11-04-2004 05:41 PM

I have a habit of interrupting too, unfortunately. I'm working on that though.

i am so with you on that one james. i'm starting to believe that i'm the world's worst when it comes to procrastination.

norcalchick 11-04-2004 10:34 PM

I play with my hair too much. I'll twirl it around my finger. Brush my hands through it. The worst is:

I'm ALWAYS looking at my hair for split ends! I will sit there with little cuticle scissors and cut my split ends. Or when I'm bored, even for a second, I'll look at my hair tosee if I have a split end and pull it off. It's not just the ends that have split ends, but the hair shaft will be messed up and broken, so I have to cut that. I've done it since my junior year of high school. I would bring a pair of little scissors and cut my hair during class. My teachers always asked what the hell I was doing.
