Expansion: Lambda Chi Alpha, Now and Beyond.

Ok here is the new thread

The word is for 2003 we are going back to Valparaiso, and there is a strong Rumour that Duke is in the works too, with two fraternities getting the boot, opening two coveted slots on campus IFC.

Please post any thoughts, rumours or dream expansions that you'd like to see!

Back in Valpo

Hello, Lambda Chi Alphas!!
I am 2002 Panhellenic President at Valparaiso. I just thought I would confirm that the chapter is being recolonized beginning in January. There is a lot of alumni support for this chapter, and it does not hurt that Marty Smith is a Valpo grad and initiate. I believe the start date for recruitment is January 19.
I am excited for this opportunity because I have always wanted to see a re/colonization. I also have met many wonderful brothers who truly believe in you creed. Best of luck!!!

boz130 12-13-2002 12:47 PM

I saw Marty Smith last week @ the AFA/NIC Convention in Columbus, & he said Valpo's recolonization is "looking good" (to use his phrase).

Now, if we can get some interest up @ Bradley & Western Illinois...both schools have strong Greek representation (30 & 28 chapters, respectively).

Any Kappa-Upsilon or Beta-Tau alums out there? Let's hear from you, guys!

Yours in ZAX,
Bill Foltz

Hearing Rumors of U. Missouri!

Closed for hazing. LCAP owns the House so is available!

Nice House to!

Still dont know about U Arkansas.

Good Luck Valpo!!!

lenoxxx 12-14-2002 03:49 AM

please make sense

Tom- that post makes NO sense.

No sentences, punctuation etc.

How can Missouri be closed for Hazing, they were just colonized 2 months ago?

They have no house- it was sold for cash assets- this is on the LCA national website success stories with housing section

Please try to explain what you are talking about in a better fashion, hundreds of posts that make no sense are worse than no posts at all

Tom Earp 12-14-2002 08:55 PM

Jason, I know what I was posting and understood it!

1. Did not know U. Mo. had recolonized, had heard that they were!
2. They were closed for hazing.
3.Did not realize that LCAP had sold it, I thought they were renting to keep it available.
4.U. Arkansas was closed for low membership and I think hazing!
5. Found on site that Valporiso was being recolonized!

Does that explain better?

I think, that is about what I said in earlier post.

Working 11 hour days 6 days a week, drinking all night doesnt help I guess!:D

As you know more about new Colonizing and re-colonizing, I expect you to help keep the GC LXA's informed and updated.:)

That is your assignment if you exceptit! This thread will self destruct in 10 seconds!:D

Keep up the great Blood Work for us!!!!!!!

agreek 12-23-2002 10:32 PM

Hey Guys, just got the LXA Edu. Letter!

Dont know if saw it but!

Here is the latest updated list of Colonies. Sounds like recocolonies:
U Memphis, Loyola-Marymount, Elmherst, Wilfred-Laurier, MurryState, Ohio, Marshall, Cal-Davis, Northern Colorado, Marietta, Kent State, Missouri, and Arkansas!

If these are all recolonizations, I am excited to bring Zetas back to schools where we were once strong!
Dont know anything about New Chapters, maybe Jason can be of help, as I know he keeps ear to ground on this end of it!

God I hope we start growing and prosper!:) May the force be with you!

God Bless each and All!:)

boz130 12-24-2002 12:13 AM

I can speak from personal experience that the new colony at Elmhurst College (IL) is strong and growing. The Northwestern chapter initiated 20+ in November, and Matt Eibling (ELC) was in attendance.

The school's a comparatively small one...LCA is 1 of 3 fraternities on campus (Alpha Sigma Phi and Phi Beta Sigma are the others). As for NPC, they've only got 6 sororities. With a student body of just 2,540 (the size of my dorm @ Illinois State), it's not a large grouping to draw from.

Steve, is Murray St in Ohio! Maybe that is what they ment! If so then they type as bad as I do!

Well brown Christmas for me as is snowing like hell down home, so Dad said do not take a chance coming down!

Hope you and the rest of the Brothers have a Very Merry Holiday:)

lenoxxx 12-26-2002 01:33 AM

Since when did Murray State, Ohio U, and Marshall University need to Recolonize?

What letter was that in?

Lenoxxx

Tom Earp 12-26-2002 10:28 PM

Jason, is in the wunter 2002-03 LXA Educational Foundation News Letter.

Did not say how long they have been re-colonized.

This is the most full list of newly new or r-colonized that I have ever seen.

lenoxxx 12-27-2002 12:05 AM

Murray State and Marshall have never been recolonized, and OU was recolonized twice, once in the 40's or 50's and once in like the 80's.

I believe there is a Murray State Brother on here- what does he say?

I get the educational foundation's newsletter and I dont remember seeing this. When I get back into the state of Pennsylvania, Ill pull the last copy out for the final fact check.

Eric_Berger 12-30-2002 12:35 PM

The actual wording from the Foundation Newsletter is:

"The colonies at Memphis, Loyola-Marymount, Elmhurst, and Wilfred-Laurier, and the Murray State, Ohio, and Marshall chapters all received Impact Leadership Level One training this fall. Colonies on the agenda for the spring are: California-Davis, Northern Colorado, Marietta, Kent State, Missouri, and Arkansas. In addition, 15 other chapters will participate in an Impact Leadership chapter retreat before the end of the school year."

Eric, thank you for posting this!

By the way, does Alpha have a web site? Have not been able to find one!

Do you have any idea of the time line for the re-colonization for said Zetas?

I wish International would print more items about this area of interest..

Eric_Berger 12-31-2002 10:29 AM

Tom,

The Alpha Chapter does not currently have a website, but we are working with someone to get it developed this semester.

I don't have a timeline for colonizations. I think a lot of it depends on how one is going before another starts off. Given the staff resources working on expansion, this makes sense.

Enjoy the New Year!

Eric

Re: Northern Colorado...if all goes well (only question right now is membership #'s)...they should recharter in the Spring of 2003.

I'd like to see Gamma Pi (Colorado State) return as soon as possible, but, not until the poisonous atmosphere regarding greeks is fixed. The university president is retiring, which will be of great benefit to greek expansion. He oversaw the literal gutting of the greek system over the last decade.

Nice to see all the expansion going on! Always a good sign!

Good to See

Good to see the return of popularity to my old #1 thread (remember expansion got the magic deletion!)

Nationals website hasnt updated the new chapter expansion scroll, so right now the plans for Spring 2003 outside of Valpo remain a mystery to us common folks!

If anyone hears anything, Im sure we'd all like to hear!

And best of luck to Nothern Colorado!

Tom Earp 01-01-2003 12:08 AM

Eric, and LxaAlum thanks for the info!

Jas, still love U Bro!!!!!:D How goes it?

Happy New Year ro Each Of the Brothers Of LXA!!

I am in hopes that there will be more info coming from International via, C & C and Web Site in the near Future.

I am in hopes that International remembers, that the Alums are still very involved and care about Our Fraternity!

Let us Hope that We expand and continue to grow!

update

FYI

I just took a gaze at the LCA main website to see what the new colony announcements are. And it is still not updated since last summer.

Now Im sure the cats at Nationals who secretly read this and keep tabs about who bitches about them wont like it, but come on, update your text once a semester, piss poor!

Future Expansion

DePauw, Missouri, North Carolina State, Tampa, Rutgers, Valparaiso, Arizona, Arkansas

I pulled this list from the January 2002 GHZ minutes found in a lesser used part of LCA.org.

Some of these did happen this last fall. As to what is happening now, without any updates to the Big Website at www.lambdachi.org we really dont know!

And now back to you!

I know that they've been talking to people at Valpo, since my collegiate ADPi sisters passed along the info, but I have no other ideas. AFAIK, they were recruiting etc. from Jan 18 to Feb 18, so hopefully there will be some news soon!

Tom Earp 02-15-2003 08:22 PM

kateshort, thanks for the update on your end!!!! Much Appreciated!:)

It seems many times that the Alums are last to find out what is going on in The Fraternity. Amazing thing is that we the Alums that carry on, work with, donate $$$, and many other things find out littlke information!

I was told by an International Officer that this has been discussed and would try to rectify this point of contention.

I do not donate to International as My Chapter is in the process of building a New House so My money is going toward it!

Our old Grande Dame' of a house will be gone at the end of the Sememster and work began on a NEW ONE!

Hope the best and keep any info coming!!!

Update

This past weekend I attended the Leadership Conference that was held in Indianapolis. During the weekend I got to attend numerous activities including the State of the Fraternity address given by Ted Grossnickle - Grand High Alpha. He mentioned a number of things which are pertinent to this discussion:
  • 23 new colonies have opened since 1998. This spring, there will be new colonies at South Carolina - Aiken and at Valparaiso University.
  • The colony at Gettysburg received its' charter this weekend and the colonies at Marietta and Loyola - Marymount will later this year.
I hope this is helpful for everyone.

WittChopper, Welcome to GC and hope you become a permanent poster. There are some Great Brothers on G C!

Thanks for the info on Colonies and Charterings. I and the rest of the Brothers wish we could get more info sooner.

South Carolina Aiken?

http://www.usca.edu/clubs/LCA/LambdaChiMainpage.htm

Wow you got me there, I just typed in the name LCA South Carolina Aiken into the search engine and found that we have HAD a chapter there.

Are these guys stealth or what?

It begs the question- Where are we expanding to? HAHAHAHA

He Witt LXA- one of my frineds is a NZ LCA alumni he never gets a mailer, do you do an alumni newsletter?

Lenoxxx

boz130 02-20-2003 09:52 AM

Gents: FYI, the text of Brother Grossnickle's message will be on lambdachi.org at some point in the near future. I attended the Indy SLC & got a copy of his comments after the banquet.

Basically, he said things are good for the most part (for instance, a 50% decrease in chapter/colony probations since 2000, Impact, etc.).

However, we do face a number of challenges (a 27% decline in membership count since the early 1990's, tight finances, high insurance premiums, etc.).

He did note that the overall fraternity's 2003-2006 action plan will include making conferences more affordable, having better overall communications and things of this nature.

The foremost thing he emphasized in closing was that "We must resolutely, and without apology, tell our friends and others that our fratenity is a good thing", and that we all need to pull together (undergrads and alums alike) by giving our "gifts of time, expertise and advocacy".

I guess this brings out the meaning of "Xalepa Ta Kala", doesn't it?

One of the ELC's is from my chapter and assisted with the colonization effort there. I got a great email about their efforts there and it sounds liek they have an amazing group and a tremendous chance of success.

Good luck to these men.

lenoxxx 03-12-2003 03:51 AM

just a point of order

Wow, I just took a look around that national website to get the "official" word on expansion.

That website is in SORRY shape for a general fraternity. There is almost no content that is current at all.

I dont expect a major overhaul every week, but it doesnt take alot of effort to update simple things like text and such.

Again, sorry to rock the boat with the HQ gang, but come on here

Tom Earp 03-13-2003 05:30 PM

Brother J, I could not agree with anyone more than you on this subject!!!

We have been getting the run around for much to long!

I used to tell people that we had one of the best web sites in GreekDom! Well as you have stated, not anymore.:o Looks nice upon intro and some of the threads, but there is a whole lot to be desired!

Without Digital, we cannot contact Brothers from all over the country or get any info on chapters or ?????

Brother Jon Sagara has been in contact with and I said something to our GC Guru John H about it but has not had time. Jon on the other hand has offered his services and was turned down. If you have seen his web site of LXA Zeta, it is fantastic.

What else can I say BUT?????

lenoxxx 03-13-2003 05:35 PM

Updated as of today, the Fraternity National website finally got updated.

SDSU

Delta Sig Stan from Delta Sigma Phi says that Lambda Chi is coming back to San Diego State University- this is the Zeta Pi Chapter.

Is there any merit to this?

Anyone hear anything else on this topic that is current, and Tom Earp, please no un-readable responses to this post.

Thanks

Lenoxxx

LXAAlum 08-06-2003 02:55 PM

The SDSU rumor appears to be true - but, based upon experience, I'll believe it when I see it.

The SDSU chapter house used to be awesome - they had a huge C & C inlaid on the floor of the dining area - very nice. Good location, fun guys.

They'll have a major challenge to overcome at SDSU with the new Greek housing area - there won't be room for LXA, and their old chapter house is slated to be torn down next year. Bummer.

Tom Earp 08-06-2003 05:31 PM

Oh, Jason, tell me you still love me Bro! Hope you were being funny!:)

Maybe DeltaSigmaStan can give more of an update when school gets started!

Mooch279 08-07-2003 04:38 PM

I hear LCA is one of three fraternities being looked at, to be picked to expand to American University in Washington DC. Which is great there are lots of schools in the DC metro area we should try to get onto. I'll post more when i hear about it.
