I Like Texas........
I am in a Texas loving mood and just had to post this so that you all can know why we all love Texas so much!
I Like Texas by Pat Green © 1995 Dead Horse Music (BMI) From Dalhart to Del Rio and out El Paso way, well I'll be doin' fine on Houston time, and when the sun sets on the Copano Bay, well from way up where the Red River flows, on down to the Rio Grande, I was born a native Texican, and I'm proud to say that I am. Yeah I like Texas, Ain't it fine here, Like to pick my guitar down in Luckenbach, and drink that Shiner Bock beer, Yeah I like Texas, man there ain't no doubt, just listen to me 'cause I know what I'm talkin' about. Well there's old dancehalls and little cafe's, where you can get a taste of the Lone Star State, strap on your boots and have yourself a laugh or two, well there's no line dancin' just straight romancin', that hill country lore is what I fancy, where streams run clear and Lord the skies they are so blue. Yeah I like Texas, Ain't it fine here, Like to pick my guitar down in Luckenbach, and drink that Shiner Bock beer, Yeah I like Texas, man there ain't no doubt, just listen to me 'cause I know what I'm talkin' about. It's a two day old burrito on a lukewarm beer to go, on the Sunday side of a road trip weekend, and Lordy I was feelin' so low, when somebody flipped on the jukebox, and I heard old Bob Wills say, "won't cha' stay all night stay a little longer", so I held on another day. |
What I Like About Texas
Sung by Jerry Jeff Walker & Gary P. Nunn You ask me what I like about Texas I tell you it's the wide open spaces! It's everything between the Sabine and the Rio Grande. It's the Llano Estacado, It's the Brazos and the Colorado; Spirit of the people down here who share this land! You ask me what I like about Texas It's the big timber roundneck Nacadoches It's driving El Camino Real into San Antone It's the Riverwalk and Mi Tierra Dancing to the Cotton-eyed Joe It's stories of the Menger Hotel and the Alamo! (You remember the Alamo!) Hey, you ask me what I like about Texas It's Blue Bonnet and Indian paint brushes Swimming in the sacred waters of Barton Springs It's body surfing at Freo It's Saturday night in Del Rio! Driving across the border for some cultural exchange! It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand! It's a quarter for the jukebox, boys, Play the Sons of the Mother Lovin' Bunkhouse Band! |

Southbound 35
by Pat Green © 1995 Dead Horse Music (BMI) What the hell am I doing down in Kansas City, I know damn well it ain't where I belong, think I'll quit my job come 5 o'clock, find my lonely way back home, My baby said just what are you trying to prove here, do you really want to leave me here alone, I said I'm staring at this ocean full of Yankees, and I'd rather be in Texas on my own. So we were southbound 35, we were headed down the road, hit the border by the morning, let Texas fill my soul, yeah let Texas fill my soul. The tears start to flow about the time that I was leaving, she said I guess you better take me along, God might have made me born a Yankee, but it's time that I made Texas my home, So we loaded her stuff into my pickup, said good-bye to all my friends, called my brother down in Austin, said I'm headed home again. She had her feet up on the dashboard, she was holding my hand and wearing only a smile, she said it's gonna be hard to start all over, but the feeling I have will make it all worth while. |
And who could forget....
Corpus Christi Bay
by Robert Earl Keen Jr. I worked the rigs from three til midnight On the Corpus Christi Bay Id get off and drink til daylight Sleep the mornin away I had a plan to take my wages Leave the rigs behind for good But that life it is contagious And it gets down in your blood I lived in Corpus with my brother We were always on the run We were bad for one another But we were good at having fun We got stoned along the seawall We got drunk and rolled a car We knew the girls at every dancehall Had a tab at every bar If I could live my life all over It wouldnt matter anyway Cause I never could stay sober On the Corpus Christi Bay My brother had a wife and family You know he gave Tem a good home But his wife thought we were crazy And one day we found her gone We threw here clothes into the car trunk Her photographs her rosary We went to the pier and got drunk And threw it all into the sea Now my brother lives in Houston He married for the second time He got a job with the union And its keeping him in line He came to Corpus just this weekend It was good to see him here He said he finally gave up drinkin Then he ordered me a beer |

SATX and lifesaver....here's one for ya ;) The Road goes on Forever... by Robert Earl Keen Sherry was a waitress at the only joint in town. She had a reputation as a girl who'd been around. On Main street after midnight, a brand new pack of cig's, a fresh one hanging from her lips, a beer between her legs. She rides down to the river, and meets with all her friends. The road goes on forever and the party never ends. Sonny was a loner, older than the rest. He was goin' in the Navy, but couldn't pass the test. So he hung around town, he sold a little pot. The law caught wind of Sonny and one day he got caught. But he was back in business when they set him free again. The road goes on forever and the party never ends. Sonny's playin' eight-ball in the joint where Sherry works when some drunken out-of-towner put his hand up Sherry's skirt. Sonny took his pool cue, laid the drunk out on the floor. Stuffed a dollar in her tip jar, walked out the door. She's running right behind him, reaching for his hand. The road goes on forever and the party never ends. They jumped into his pickup, Sonny jammed it down in gear. Sonny looked at Sherry, said "Let's get on out of here". The stars were high above them, the moon was in the east. The sun was setting on them when they reached Miami Beach. They got a hotel by the water, a quart of Bombay Gin. The road goes on forever and the party never ends. They soon ran out of money but, Sonny knew a man, who knew some Cuban refugees, who dealt in contraband. Sonny met the Cubans in a house just off the route, with a briefcase full of money and a pistol in his boot. The card were on the table when the law came bustin' in. The road goes on forever and the party never ends. The Cubans grabbed the goodies, Sonny grabbed a jack, broke the bathroom window and climbed on out the back. Sherry drove the pickup through the alley on the side, where a lawman tackled Sonny and was reading him his rights. She stepped out in the alley with a single shot four-ten The road goes on forever and the party never ends. They left the lawman lying, they made their getaway. Got back to the motel just before the break of day. Sonny gave her all the money, he blew a little kiss. If they ask you how this happened say I forced you into this. She watched him as his taillights disappeared around the bend. The road goes on forever and the party never ends. Its main street after midnight, just like it was before, twenty-one months later, at the local grocery store. Sherry buys a paper and a cold six-pack of beer. The headlines say that Sonny is going to the chair. She pulls back onto mainstreet in her new Mercedes Benz. The road goes on forever and the party never ends. Kitso KS 361 times i've been drunk singing that song |

Now, everyone stand....
I am all for the texas songs, but I feel that we should stop for a moment and pay due honor. I dont think the song is performed NEARLY enough.
Genlemen, remove your caps and place them over your chest, held in your right hand, facing the flag. Ladies and gentlemen place your right hand over your left breast, facing the flag. Non-residents will also stand, but not place their hands over their hearts, facing the flag. "Texas, Our Texas" William J. Marsh and Gladys Yoakum Wright: Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State! Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great! Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest. God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong, That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long. Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star, Sends out its radiance to nations near and far, Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow, With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo. God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong, That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long. Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free, Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny! Mother of heroes, we come your children true, Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you. God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong, That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long. God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong, That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long. |

I KNEW my fellow Texans would back me up!! Thanks everyone! ;)
Here's one more. I hope this never comes true! "Nightmare" By: Pat Green Last night I had me a nightmare Dreamed that Texas was burning down, burning down And all them people, I had grown up to love Leaving town So I cried "Oh Holy Moses, bring blood to the Red Red Sea Bring back Townes Van Zandt, and my heroes back to me Because I can play their songs, but it ain't they way they do It ain't they way they do." I had a nightmare, a nightmare, it was a nightmare. Buddy Holly was riding on the wind Stevie Ray, well he was too When their star, come tumbling to the ground Wasn't a thing that all the king's horses And all the king's men could do Me I've just got my ol' bar stool And man it's burning me down, burning me down Just like a brush fire, that burns on through the night One of these days I'm just going These days I'm going to burn on out So I cried "Oh Holy Moses, bring blood to the Red Red Sea Bring back Townes Van Zandt, and my heroes back to me Because I can play their songs, but it ain't they way they do It ain't they way they do." I had a nightmare, a nightmare, it was a nightmare. I had a nightmare, a nightmare, it was a nightmare. |

Title: Drink One More Round
Artist: Cory Morrow (with Pat Green and Owen Temple) I’ve been a drifter, ever since I could walk I’ve been a connoisseur of beer since I could talk My momma told me son, liquor ain’t no good Ahhh, just another thing I never understood So Drink one more round on me Let’s sing an old melody Hold your drinks up high, and toast the night Hold your baby strong, help me sing that old song I think that one more drink, might do me right I like to spend my days, floating down the Guadalupe River Drink a cold case of Lone Star beer While my body shivers At the end of the day, we stumble in to the nearest bar We hang our pictures on the wall so you’ll think that we are stars (Are we stars? Oh yeah!) So Drink one more round on me Let’s sing an old melody Hold your drinks up high, and toast the night Hold your baby strong, help me sing that old song I think that one more drink, might do me right I’ve woken up, many mornings next to a coyote Had to gnaw my arm off, Lord, I hit the door running It’s a damn miracle, all that we’ve lived through Anyone like another round or two So Drink one more round on me Let’s sing an old melody Hold your drinks up high, and toast the night Hold your baby strong, help me sing that old song I think that one more drink, might do me right |
"Songs About Texas"
by: Walt Wilkins Performed by: Pat Green, Chris Wall, Cory Morrow I sing songs about Texas Sing them often as if she was some old lover I used to know Wish I could follow them back to the homeland every time I hear one on my radio Twin fiddles playing in my memory My daddy sang the wonders of old cow town Silver haired and he's still there, under a sky so warm and fair I tell you friend there's a song in every town Sing me one more song about old San Antone Seems like a dream now it was so long ago Jerry Jeff Walker can be just like a coat from the cold Yeah, I'm goin' home Nothing short of the gospel hymns I guess that's why folks keep writing 'em And when I die, I want to go there too Someday I hope to walk along heavens street I'll still be looking for my taco meat and I swear I hear a steel guitar rising in the air Sing me one more song about old San Antone Seems like a dream now it was so long ago Ol' Guy Clark he can be just like a coat from the cold I'm goin' home When the night is real, real still Swear I could hear a whippoorwill She knows there's music in the dirt down there Hill country rain is a cleansing thing All I have to do is see one And I'll be sitting in a shallow creek with nothing to do Sing me one more song about old San Antone Seems like a dream now it was so long ago Jerry Jeff Walker can be just like a coat from the cold I'm goin' home Sing me one more song about those dusty plains Them honky tonk angels and their lonely bee hive pain Wish I was stowed away on some fast moving train, going home |
Title: Storybook
Words and Music: Roger Creager Sometimes I sit in my backyard. I kick back and drink Iced tea. I stare all the way to the ocean and I dream of how it would be If I were a ship captain somewhere or an old fashioned sailor at sea, Or a stowed away pirate just down below hiding and praying the law don’t find me. Maybe I’d sail from Nantucket chasing the great white whale. Oh without a sound, I’d run him around then I’d bring old Ahab the tail. Yeah I’d show old Ahab his tail. But I’m not a sailor I’m just a man stuck here in the promised land. Living hard and living free. I’m a dreamer that’s what I got, Oh but here goes one last shot and I hope someday they’re dreaming about me. Sometimes I dream I’m a cowboy around 1949. I’d cross the border on horseback with a real close buddy of mine. I’d know we’d run from trouble but I’m sure its what we’d find. When you’re out of the frying pan into the fire, who cares what you leave behind. I'll probably fall in love down there and I’d probably end up in jail. When you fall in love with a rich man’s daughter, who’s going to go your bail? Man I hate them Mexican jails. But I’m not an outlaw I’m just a man stuck here in the promised land. Living hard and living free. I’m a dreamer that’s what I got, Oh but here goes one last shot and I hope someday they’re dreaming about me. I’d love to go rafting the waters: riding the mighty Mississip. I’d float around from town to town causing trouble then I’d give them the slip. That water could take me back to the days of young Huck Finn. I’d sleep all day and smoke all night and play tricks on old Jim. Yeah I think I’d like old Jim. But I’m not a runaway I’m just a man stuck here in the promised land. Living hard and living free. I’m a dreamer that’s what I got, Oh but here goes one last shot and I hope someday they’re dreaming about me. |
Okay, so who is going to back me up?
Anyone? :D ;) |
