Does anyone here use Kazaa to download music? If so, do you know how to look up other users and add them to a buddy list? I've been trying to do this for the past half hour and can't find any answers. Thanks.

Dude, Kazaa messes up your computer. If I were you, I would uninstall Kazaa.

Then I would go to http://download.com.com/3000-2094-10045910.html and install and run that program to get rid of the crap Kazaa did to your computer.

Then I would go to http://www.kazaalite.com and download and run that. That's a modified version of Kazaa without all the messed up crap on there.

Unfortunatly, SDSU put up a bunch of firewalls, so the luxury of having T1 is less enthusing when EVERY SINGLE D/L Program (Kazaa, LimeWire, Songspy, Winmx, iMesh) will not work.

I got rid of Kazaa and switched to Kazaa Lite which is definitely better.

I'd like details too. All I've noticed so far is that it makes my 1.2Ghz, 256MB RAM, XP laptop run so incredibly slowly you can barely open another program. What else does it do?

I have never used it personally, but my guess is that it installs so-called "spyware" onto your computer. It tracks your surfing habits and pops up targeted advertisements.

You can download a free program to scan your computer for these programs. It will also remove them for you. Go to

http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and download AdAware.

I have kazaa and haven't noticed anything too terribly odd. I run on a cable modem though so everything seems faster compared to when I didn't have it.

1. It installs programs which monitor your daily habits (shopping, internet usage, what websites, etc.) and sells that info to marketing companies which then target you. Perhaps you've noticed you get more pop-up windows.

2. It makes it possible to install other programs which you don't want on there. For example, you'll notice some program that starts to pop up to "help you with your shopping needs". In other words, marketing again.

3. It installs a program on there that would allow them to use your computer collectively with a bunch of other computers who use Kazaa to use the processing power for their own needs.

Thus, the links I gave above provide a way to get rid of it and then to use a good version without all that crap.

Are there any real differences in the running of Kazaa and KazaaLite?

Kazaa light is what we're working with here. Does anyone know if there's a way to locate other users?

So if I get rid of regular Kazaa I assume I'll have to redownload all my music!!! I feel like we're talking about beer here: Kazaa vs. KazaaLite!

Before you go downloading anyting or uninstalling anything, all you have to do is transfer your music from the Kazaa folder to any other folder on your computer, i.e. My Music. After that is done, go ahead and uninstall Kazaa and download KazaaLite. Hope that helps!

And for future reference, I've always found it helpful to make all my file sharing programs share a common download directory.

when you uninstall most file-sharing programs, it keeps the "shared" directory . . . KaZaA definitely does this.

i use limewire. i couldn't find kaazalite when i went to the website... they wanted me to pay. i guess you have to go around to download.com and do all this other stuff.

i am using limewire. i use it at home and then use it at school as well during open labs cuz they have T1s and i have a 56k... blah... jen's in the stone age. :(

my friend uses kaaza tho... he managed to find a computer program that is normally priced at $900 a pop for free. I haven't heard him complain about it yet.

For all those who use Kazaa, what does your "participation level" mean? Mine is really low.

I used regular Kazaa and then downloaded an ad-aware program. I couldn't believe the amount of spyware that I had on my computer. I uninstalled Kazaa and then downloaded Kazaa lite. Works much better.

A friend downloaded Kazaa on my computer, and I am going to kill him!:mad: Every since then, my Internet explorer and Norton LiveUpdate have not worked right. I have spent the last week trying to get it to back in shape. I have had to buy new copies of Norton SystemWorks in hopes that I would wipe every last trace of Kazaa of my computer!!!! :rolleyes:

The good thing, he was considerate enough that no one was able to grab anything off my hard drive to copy. ARGH!!!!!!

And to add insult to injury, some spyware programs will uninstall or disable any anti-spyware programs you may have already installed on your computer!

I finally made the switch to Kazaa Lite. Same thing, but without pop ups and annoying ads at the bottom!

ZTAngel, I think your participation level is how much you download and how much people upload from you (but I could be wrong).

I tried downloading limewire b/c kazaa has not been working with me..

anyway, i can't connect for some reason?? I'm on a T1 connection and it doesn't let me connect?

If your T1 is through your school that could be the reason it's not connecting. Many schools block file swapping services.

oh that is just soooooo wrong. i used to be able to download songs w/ kazaa, but lately it has been taking *forever* for just one song.

Hey T*P, back at school the only sharing program that would work for us was songspy. Perhaps that will work better for you.
