A Phi Random
Okay ladies. It is very quiet on our board.I think we need our own random thread just to fire it up in here a bit.Hopefully the rest of you would like to play as well.
I am trying to find a seasonal job in the evening with no more than 15 or 20 hours.I have tried everywhere.I can't get there until 6 in the evening and unfortunately, that is not negotiable.Salary and days worked are but the time is not.I am getting burned out on filling out applications. It is a beautiful fall day here in Kansas City.Sunny and 60. I think I am going to put the applications away and get outside. |
I work at Target right now and I think my shift would be one you are interested in. I go in at 6pm and usually work until 10-11pm. I only work 4 nights a week, so I usually get about 20-23 hours per week. If you cannot work anymore than 20 hours per week, perhaps they will only schedule you 3 nights a week. They are VERY flexible at Target. Starting pay is $5.15 per hour, but after 30 days, you move up to $6.00. Best of luck with your job search!!
|
I have to go to work in about an hour and a half. I don't want to go! I'm seriously considering asking them to no longer schedule me on Sundays. I want to start going to church. Seeing as how I do not wake up early, evening mass is my only option. What do you all think? Should I tell I am no longer available on Sundays? I want to start going to mass again, but work is the only thing holding me back (other than sleeping in the morning). I'll probably be going to mass alone, so I'd rather stay away from the morning masses since they are the busiest.
|
Starting pay here in KC for Target is $7.You need to tell them to renegotiate if you don't make that yet.The Walmart down the street from them starts at $8.Wild horses couldn't drag me to work at Walmart.I would rather use a debt consolidation service.
I can't work more than 20 hours for tax purposes. If I work more than that I will end up paying taxes. If I keep it under 20 and claim zero,I will just about break even. As for not working sundays,if you can afford to not work then tell them that you can't.Its the holidays.Go be with friends and family. |
$7? So you mean I am getting jipped?! Ahh, I knew Target was rather silly!!
Yeah, I am thinking about requesting off Sundays. I can work only four days a week. Are you considering Target, since you know the pay and all? :p You can always put me down as a cousin who works for Target and maybe that'll help you win the position. :D But seriously, I know they are hiring a lot of people right now for seasonal. My store just hired 30 people for seasonal evening shifts. |
I did apply at Target. The electronic application took forever. As for the pay scale,I overheard the cashiers talking about it one day.I can't go lower than $7 for a part time job.It wouldn't be worth it.
I also applied at 6 other places on Sunday,so we will see. I also applied as a data entry clerk at the local branch of my library. It would be ideal for me.It is a mile down the street from my house. It is 2 days a week and every other saturday. That would rock if I could get that. The only drawback is being a city employee,I think I would only get paid once a month but I could live with that because the convienence outweighs anything else. I was also able to finish most of my Christmas shopping this weekend.Woo Hoo.I have 1 more gift to buy.My nephew wants a Monty Python DVD.At least he has good taste. How about you?Have you started yet? |
another place
I put myself thru college working for Wal Mart as a Cust Service Manager. I still go back from time to time during the holidays to make extra for christmas.
it seems all my family members have B'days in December and with my son Matthew's B'day in December I really use the extra money. It was a good job when i was in college, but know they call me or call them when they need help in the holidays. The pay isn't the greatest though!:( Laura |

MWG,
finished with shopping already!! What?? Ahh, I haven't even started. In fact, I haven't even started thinking of what to get for everyone!! Wow! |
I LOVE LOVE LOVE shopping online.I don't have the patience to go to the mall, hunt for a parking space and then fight the crowds inside. However, when I do go to the mall, our Dillards,Nordstroms and Eddie Bauer are all very near each other. That at least is very convienent.:) As you can probably tell,I am all about convienence.
I do try to hit the mall a couple of times during the holiday season.I enjoy all the festive trappings. Here in Kansas City we have an upscale outdoor mall called the Country Club Plaza and the entire area (4 blocks each way)are decorated with Christmas lights. Its beautiful, especially if it is snowing. As for not having your shopping done, you should be thinking of school and not that. You will have plenty of time after finals to do your holiday shopping. |
Shopping online gets me in trouble!!
I CANNOT wait for it to be the Christmas season! It already feels it in my house because my mom has been baking for the last week! My house smells yummmmy! Too bad I can't eat the cookies. My mouth will continue to water. :p I didn't go to work today because I was sick. In fact, I'm still sick. I'm off on Saturday but they asked me to go in and make up my hours. I also work tomorrow (Friday) but I don't know if I'll be able to go in if I'm still sick. Ooooh, they're not going to like me if I don't go in! |
Woo Hoo I think I found an evening job at Radio Shack.I will know for sure on Monday but it sounds promising. She can work with my schedule so I will do my best to work with her.
All the Help Wanted people just amazed me.People advertising nights and weekends need help during the day.One store had a help wanted sign but were in the middle of a hiring freeze.I put in an application at Kohl's and the personel manager was on vacation for two weeks. What kind of moron goes on vacation for two weeks during the busiest hiring and shopping season of the year. I too am looking forward to the holidays.I bought the stuff to make green bean casserole but of course couldn't wait.So I will have to go buy all that stuff again.Thats okay though because it was really good. Hope you feel better.:) |
Ooooh, my mom makes greenbean casserole! Scrumptious!
An early congrats on the very promising job offer. Thanks, I hope I feel better too. :( |
I am looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner. How about you?
I know that I will be eating turkey for a week after wards but it doesn't matter. My sister in law makes a fabulous wild rice dish and THE best pumpkin bread ever. She bakes it in a coffee can.It is weird but the end result is wonderful and it is easy to slice since it has the ridges from the can.The one thing I don't like is Pumpkin pie.I don't care for the texture of the pie so I don't eat it.Fruit pies are about it for me.I am getting hungry just sitting here typing.Just two more weeks... |
Oooh, you had to bring up Thanksgiving! I LOVE Thanksgiving!! My mom is the best cook in the whole wide world!!! Mmmmm! I can't wait!! My mouth is watering, thanks. ;)
|
you all are makingme hungry
DOn't even get me started on Green Bean Casserole! my thanksgiving and christmas dinner is not complete without that one item. I can make my own little dinner just that and a roll and some gravy and mash potatoes and yams! hehehehe
I make the green bean casserole in different variations though. and i make my own special secert reciepe mash potatoes. Now onto shopping....... i like Satx have not EEEVEN begun to think about shopping. that won't creep into my mind until after my last final the second week of December. Until i can get tort law out of my sight nothing else exist!:):) haha Until i take contracts and life won't exist! hahaha I cannot wait though to start baking.... i do gift baskets for everyone at christmas and i bake up a storm! Laura :) |
Did you guys see that picture of Michael Jackson dangling that baby over the balcony? That poor child.I am going to tell myself that he was just showing the child to the crowd below.Whatever it was about,it was BIZARRE.I have been a fan more many years but I am afraid that he has totally lost all touch with reality. It must be sad to be surrounded by people who don't care enough about you to tell you no. Hey Tech Aphi,I know that you work for CNN is there any more to the story than what they were showing?
On a happier note ladies,I got the evening job I was looking at.The pay is commission based but I can live with that.It is mimum wage plus 15% commission. It is at Radio Shack,so I may be able to just work the holiday season and get caught up.I am so glad.:) |
Good for you...
I am glad that you got the job and that you happy about it...
But about Michael Jackson and the baby, ummm yes, why?? Now what was the point?? |
Bizzare doesnt even cut it!
That man lost reality long ago. I have been a Micheal Jackson fan since the "Jackson 5" ( i am only 33 so i am not old.... i had to point that out) , but he is one freak of nature! what would of happened if the baby struggled out of his hands or he jerked and lost grip of the baby...we all know he has lost grip with reality long ago and all we kow is what we saw on the news clips. I truly think he has gone far beyond the line this time. If that baby was my son Matthew i would not even be near an edge that high... in other words i would be far out in the hallway of the hotel room camped out! I don't do heights well. hehe. The thought that makes me sick.
Laura :) |
Michael J. has always puzzled me. The guy is flat out weird! I think he should be charged with endagerment of a child! Since this happened in Germany, it would have to be taken care of by the government over there, and I do not know what their laws are. I am hoping, though, they don't let people hang infants over a balcony with one hand as the baby is kicking and blinded.
|
exactly!
What was he thinking? "oh ok ill hang my infant child or any infant child over a hi rise balcony....." I myself think he has taken one to many trips to the oxygen chamber that he owns!
Laura |
Eh, I think the guy has totally lost it, and just b/c he is a huge mega-star, nobody cares to do anything about it. If I were one of his family members, I'd be embarrassed first of all. Second of all, I would go and get a mental commitment so that they could put him in the looney bin! Yep, that's what I'd do. The dude is beyond psychotic.
I read in another thread that supposedly his real nose fell off and that he has a wooden prosthetic nose that he covers with make-up and that is the reason his nose looked so horrible. I don't know if there is any truth behind this, although I do not know why he'd have a wooden nose. Just thought I'd bring this up since this is the RANDOM thread. :p |
Oh yeah, anyone watching The Bachelor tonight?? We are having a get-together here at my house and my mom is making her delicious enchiladas!! My mouth is watering already. :)
I wonder who he will pick? I have my favorite, but I am pretty sure he isn't going to pick her. :( What a shame. She is such a good girl with much less attitude than the other. |
I am not much of a reality tv watcher.I will probably watch the X Files marathon that is on every tuesday and wednesday on the sci fi channel. I upgraded to the digital cable tier recently so now I have 400 channels and still nothing to watch.Sometimes I just listen to the digital music stations.I am especially glad they have the sound of the seaon one.I have been listening to holiday music pretty much non stop for the last week. Also two radio stations here have started playing non stop holiday music.
I have to go through 3 rounds of paperwork for my new job.I am ready to start today but it looks like it will be the first of next week.I get a 25% discount though. That will make it a little more worth the wait. Laura,I do agree that MJ has had a bit too much of his oxegyn chamber.:D |
I'm so addicted to reality TV! I'm taping The Bachelor tonight because I'm going to be out, but I can't wait to see who he will choose. I think he'll pick Helene, but I'm pulling for Brooke! Although, I think she could probably find someone better...
SATX*APhi- i think you and I are rooting for the same person! ;) |
ladyj,
Yep, you had me figured out. My prediction was correct. :( We had a get-together at my house to watch the show and a local news station came out to get some footage on us watching the show. I was also interviewed and came out on TV!! Woo hoo!!!! I got my 5 seconds! :p |
who did he pick?
I wasn't home last night....who did he pick? and did he actually propose to her?
LAura :) |
He chose Helene. :( And yes, he did propose!
Brooke was a better match. She deserves better anyway! |
I totally agree SATX*APhi!!! Brooke does deserve so much better than Aaron! She is such a sweetheart and so sincere! I think the way she took the news was noble and i would have probably reacted the same way. Did any of you watch Good Morning America this morning?
|
NOOOO!!
I set my alarm, but turned it off and went back to bed. I woke up about 8:30 this morning and turned on the TV to see if they were on and they weren't, so I went back to bed. :D Some other GC'ers talked about it in The Bachelor thread. I really wish I could have seen it!!! |
Hey Midwesterngirl...
Where in Kansas City are you from? I'm from Leawood, KS and went to school at Blue Valley North, and now I'm at Pepperdine in California. It'd be cool if we got together sometime... maybe this winter :D |
I am from Johnson County as well.I PMed you.
|
Oooooh, GC'ers meeting!! Back in April/May of this year, I met lifesaver, aka Andy. I have yet to meet any other GC'ers. This winter break I may be meeting up with him again, as well as a couple of other GC'ers. I will have to keep you posted. :)
BTW, I hope everybody's Thanksgiving was a good one. Mine was great up until the evening, which I have no words to describe but a simple smilie,. |
I'M GOING TO SAN ANTONIO IN 2 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!! Although I won't get to see all of my chapter sisters, I will be able to see a few that will still be in San Antonio for the holidays. I miss my chapter sisters!! :( I'm going to San Antonio with my Hermaneeta aka BearyCuteAPhi. But wait, there's more! MEXICO!!!!!! OOOOOH, I can't wait!!!!!!!!!! Mexico and San Antonio in one weekend!!! HERMMMMMMM, are you ready?????????????? :D :D :D Oooooh, and Melsan's 21st b-day is another reason to celebrate!! Now, all I have to do is speak with my supervisor tomorrow and get my vacation leave approved!! :D Oooooh, I hope she approves it! If not, I will be extremely disappointed and very sad!!! If it is not approved, perhaps I may be sick that weekend. :p You like how I plan vacations without requesting the time off first?? It's awfully cute, isn't it? |
So I spoke with my supervisor today and she told me that she would try to do what she could, but that I should turn in my request today. So yeah, here is to hoping that I get the weekend off so that I can hang out with my awesome chapter sisters!! :D
|
Have a super time when you go.Also, congratulations on your new tattoo.I have thought about one once or twice but I am always afraid that I will regret it when I am old.
|
I WANT TO GO TO MARDI GRAS!!!!!!!! There is this AWESOME room that runs for $500 that I can get for $164!! The hotel is only 2 blocks away from Bourbon Street and it is an extremely super nice hotel! We even get a pillowtop bed with a down comforter, which is how my bed is!! It's soooo comfy!! :D We also get Webtv w/a wireless keyboard!! hehehe!! You cannot beat that deal!!! I'm trying to round up a group to go. I hope I end up going!!!! :D :D
|
I don't feel like going to the gym this morning. I love my gym, it's brand new, and it's women's only so I don't have to fight guys for the machines, but I just don't want to go. It's rainy, cold, and yucky out, and all I want to do is snuggle up next to my hubby.
Today's my anniversary... I wonder if this means I'll be able to get away with not doing any housework? ;) I'm thinking of dropping one of my classes but I can't decide which one. They're all good ones, and even though I should drop my database design course, I don't want to because the prof is a total babe. I do love my sexy geeks, and he's even better becuase he has a French accent. Yum. |
You're tooo funny!
My classes start tomorrow(Civil procedure, legal analysis(scary  ), Adv. international business law ,and automated law office......i can't drop any of these or i fall a semester behind.
As for checking out the prof..... you crack me up...it is your anniv and your saying the guy is a babe. ok geeky , but some geeky guys are cute....Bill Gates!:) LOL Laura |
