Looks like the Republicans have the Senate...
Looks like the Republicans have taken the senate by at least 1 and maybe even 2 depending on how things shake out in Louisiana. How do ya'll think the next 2 years will be with them controlling the white house, the house and the senate?
|
Next two years... War with Iraq and anyone Bush doesn't like. More tax cuts for rich people, the repeal of more envronmental laws, and the economy will go even more to crap.
|
Still need 60 votes in senate to pass anything.
|
We're going to hell in a handbasket.

You know, for all you Democrats out there boohooing about our country going to hell in a handbasket, I ask you to take a look at the ridiculousness that ensued in the NJ Senate election. NJ Dems choose Bob Toricelli and because he's such a damn thief and crook, he has to resign b/c ethically, the whole state thinks he's awful. To counteract this move, 40 days before the election (and i'm being generous with 40 days...it was less), they get a 78 year old Democrat who retired from the Senate to run. And the old man wins!!!
Maybe the NJ Supreme Court felt they were helping NJ voters have a chance, but to ask a candidate to change their campaign with 40 days left to fight a guy who was pretty much like an incumbent (the man served 20 years in the Senate) is a bunch of shit. So if you want Democrats who screw everything up, I advise to move to Jersey :) As for the Senate, I nearly burst into tears of joy watching Tom Daschle on the morning news shows cry the blues for his party. Guess his paycheck will be a little smaller come January!! |
stupid republicans :o mitt romney won mass for gov... that fucker is a cheat and a LIAR.. GRRR
|
Do you really believe that there are politicians who AREN'T liars and cheats?
Hrm... |
I really think that y'all who are predicting doom and gloom for the country simply because of the Republican victories have lost touch with reality and guilty of major hyperbole.
What is every politicians' main objective? To get re-elected. I don't think you are going to see massive changes to the American way of life. The government will continue on a rather middle of the road stance as it always has. You will not see the newly elected Republicans do things so radical as to hurt their chances of re-election. Yes, Bush may have support to oust Hussein, but so what? It needs to be done. ANWR might get revisited, and as much as i disagree with the stances of many fellow Republicans, i doubt all of a sudden our pristene wilderness areas are going to become toxic waste dumping grounds. Don't forget, the NRA is probably a big supporter of Republicans, and they would be as upset as anyone if anything happened to lands that are prime hunting areas. In closing, lets refrain from namecalling, stereotyping, and all the other low class things i've been seeing. We are all Americans here. This country is the greatest in the world. Why? Because we are able to have elections, and have bloodless changes in power. Kitso KS 361 things that make me proud to be an American on election days. PS...I guarantee the economy will rebound by the time Bush is up for re-election. |

In actuality, we Marylanders chose substance over a flashy, well-known maiden name and elected Bob Ehrlich as our governor. As for the gun issue; not to be rude but do you live in the same Maryland I live in? We've had over 300 gun deaths in this state in 2001 while Parris was in office. Remember Joe Palzynski, the guy in Dundalk who went on a killing spree and then held a family hostage for a week in 2000? Parris was in office then, too. And the most recent "sniper" (although I hesitate to call anyone who uses a rifle with a tripod from 100 yards a sniper) shootings in Montgomery and PG county happened on Paris' watch. Based on this, how do you equate having a democrat in the governor's mansion with fewer crimes with firearms? If it makes you feel any better though, I'm rather disgusted myself that Dutch Ruppersberger got elected. But I guess that was to be expected since Parris reconfigured the voting districts to favor the Dems  |

-We're going into a state of RepublicanISM. :( |
I, for one, feel sorry for the Wisconsinites. Their options were Doyle (a weasel), McCallum (a wiener), Ed Thompson (I'm the real governor's brother, so elect me and we'll legalize drugs), and whichever token Green Party candidate ran this year (they're all interchangable, just someone to get 2% of the vote from the enviro-freaks who can't find it in their bleeding hearts to vote for someone as far right as a Democrat). They chose Doyle, the Democrat, and turned the state legislature around so that it's all a Republican majority. Hopefully four years of an idiot liberal like Doyle and a grid-locking right-wing assembly will prompt the Republicans to field a moderate gubernatorial candidate in 2006. That way, the legislature can go back to being Democrat and once again a balance will be struck.
And a big congratulations to my Lady Elizabeth Dole! California: Arnold and Jesse in 2006! |
Several things that I don't understand... How does anyone equate a poor economy with the president or the congress? We have something called a free market economy. Legislation (unless it's sweeping reform) will usually have little if anything to do with the economy. The Fed does regulate interest rates which is the amount of interest that banks charge eachother... That's about it though.
It's the free market... Enron, Arthur Anderson et al. How can you draw the connection to the President? The recession began when Bush entered office.. or actually before that right after the Clinton white house. How can you even make the connection to this administration? (and I'm not saying Clinton had anything to do with it either) It's just smoke and mirrors any way you look at it. |

People might not agree with it but its election results like this that make me vote for the party not that man. Go Republicans!

I WOULD say that this election would have no effect on us so who cares because they;re all the same except for two things:
1. Supreme Court Positions 2. War with Iraq I dont really think there is that much of a difference between teh PEOPLE in these parties, but the policies of both parties at this particular moment in time are different in some substantive ways. Yep, our country is going to hell. And NO it's not necessarily Bush's fault about the economy, but he COULD do a lot more to make things better for those being hit hardest by admitting we're in a recession and taking steps like lengthening the amount of time people receive unemployment benefits. |
yall need to remember these facts:
1. clinton/gore started the recession, not bush, yall sound like its bushs fault when in fact if you talk to any analyst theyll tell you it started when clinton was still in office, and you didnt see him do anything about it. 2. bill clinton was in office during the prosperity and nothing more!!!! in 1994 the republicans ran on the contract with america, which in turn got them both houses of congress. legislation passed by a republican congress was a huge part of the sucess of the economy, bill clinton merely decided to go along with it. also, some historical economists have stated that reagan's economics plans helped create the prosperity of the 90s, so theres an argument that if a republican was in during the 90s, the economy wouldve been the same. 3. also, you can place blame on the markets not doing well when investors pour large sums of money into companies who dont turn a profit, ie all the dot coms. just my two cents. |

I have YET to see ONE Florida recount that says otherwise. Lots of groups have gone in there and recounted and the results are always in Bush's favor.
You can try to make excuses... The fact is Gore lost. |

the reason i am so upset about the republican gov. in mass is the circumstances surrounding HIM and not his entire political group. he moved out of mass to salt lake city and didn't pay taxes at all in mass, and then ran for gov when he moved back- ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have to be a citizen of a state for a length of time (certain # of years) before you can run. he got out of it by saying "well i owned land here".. it went up for vote andt hey let him run... what the hell, he should pay mass the taxes he owes us

Even though I'm a liberal, I'm trying to look on the bright side here, so I'll borrow my friend Keith's political philosophy for the time being. Keith says, "The more Republicans they have in office, the faster they'll screw everything up. The faster they screw things up, the faster the people will rebel and start voting for Democrats instead. So vote Republican!"
|
Republicans
One word: HOORAY!
|
All of you on either side that are whining.....Did you vote? There are still a hell of a lot of people that nver vote. Don't complain if you don't vote. Two years ago proved your vote can make a difference.

His tax cuts were an effort to encourage economic growth by putting more spending money in the hands of consumers. By the time he's up for reelection, the cycle will be on the upswing. :D |

I'm very happy that we cleaned house. Many analysts have pointed out that the Dems counted on minority votes and misjudged the "party loyalty" factor. The minority vote, which has favored liberals and big govt., can no longer be counted on if there isn't SUBSTANCE behind the candidate and issues to address. A very big mistake in judgment by the Dems. Last night on the Factor, the head of the NAACP Kweisi Mfume, discussed these very issues and is in agreement. Economy-this is one hell of a wave, but I agree it will (hopefully) recover within 2 years. I'm most excited about the Supreme Court picks. We should be able to place some more conservative minds. This will delay Hillary's run for another term. Maybe by then she will slither off into the foot notes of history. Bill can go Bye-bye as well. NO MORE GEPHARDT!!! Perhaps Daschle will find another pair of coat tails to ride-let him lick his wounds in peace. Big question-who will the Dems bring forward-Gore, Kerry, Lieberman??? I'm sick of TAXES and I'm sick of BIG GOVERNMENT. This is the BEST thing that could have happened (IMO of course). WWIII-Perhaps if Clinton and his party had been more concerned with foreign affairs rather than love affairs, we wouldn't be at this juncture. I will add-had George #1 finished the job when he had the chance, we would be in a better place. He was WRONG to stop short. That's another thread... |

There isn't one person or group that is solely in charge of the economy, I just hope it recovers soon. I'm a college senior looking for a job. In the end, it doesn't matter all that much if the democrats or republicans control the government. The days of those two parties having deep ideological differences are over and now it's becoming more difficult to tell the two apart. Yeah, I'm pretty upset about Romney in MA, if you want to be governor of a state then it should be your primary residence where you pay the appropriate taxes. Although he is (from what I've heard here in PA) pro choice and more liberal than most conservatives in this country. Maybe it won't be so bad. At least Jane Swift is no longer there. |
