2 sororities having a social/mixer
Ok so i have a question, I'm in a sorority and we do mixers with the other fraternities/male clubs on campus but we have never done anything with the other sororities. Has anyone done that before??? I think it would be a good way to keep a stable relationship with the other sororities. I know some say that it wouldnt work out but afterall we are greek and women. 2 very stong points.
If anyone has ever done a mixer/social with another sorority please throw out any ideas or experiences. ideas or experiences |
I have a good idea what we do for socials with other greeks. We have quads we have two sororites and two frats involved in them and they are a ton of fun! also talk to all the greek social chairs about possibly organizing an all greek social. We usually have one of those once a semester, yes we are a smaller school with only about 11,000 students enrolled, so I dont know if it will work for your school, but its just a couple of suggestions! Hope this helps!

Alpha Gam and Phi Mu just had their first annual Boo Bash, and it went well and was so much fun too. I don't see why it wouldn't work to do stuff with other sororities... having unity among all the sororities is a crucial part of having a successful greek system, in my opinion. And when you're doing something like what we did, which was a campus-wide event, just sponsored by two sororities, it will draw in all kinds of people. Not exactly a mixer, but still a social event!

At my school, sororities would pair off and throw crush functions together... super fun.
|
I know my chapter did a party with another sorority and another fraternity. It was nice, because it mixed things up a bit.
|
yes
I think having socials with other groups is fun. We had a Panhellenic Christmas Party one year. All the groups got together and it was cost effective b/c you get to split the bill with all the other groups. It also helps you get to know each other and relieves some of that "Rush Competition" stress left over from fall. Our shirts were really cute too. Now the guys don't seem to be keen on hanging out with each other, but the girls had fun doing it.

We are actually having a mixer with D Phi E on Thursday going out to eat. I think it is a great way to unite the greek community. Good relations with other sororities makes lots of things easier to accomplish on campus.
In fact at my campus, the first day of recruitment combined all three sororities in different rush rooms. Good sorority relations can only bring positive things to the greek community. And I would encourage you to improve relations in any way possible. Terri Phi Sigma Sigma Zeta Omega Chapter "Once a Phi Sigma Sigma, always a Phi Sigma Sigma" |
We are having a mixer with AXO tomorrow night after Panhellenic... we are having a woman from Origins give makeover tips and then we are gonna do makeovers :)
I have only been to mixers with fraternities so far... I think this one will be fun though. I think it's a good idea for sororities to mix together, especially at schools with smaller Greek systems. Everyone getting along will always be a good thing. |
I have definitely thought about something like this for my chapter. I think it would bring Greeks even closer. It will also show the PNM's that it really is true -- No matter the letter, we are all Greek together!
|
Kind of along those lines there are plenty of occasions where fraternities throw parties together or show up to play on eachother's volleyball courts... We've scrimmaged ATO a few times in football.
|
Along those same lines...Back in the day....Sigma Pi, Sigma Nu, and Sigma Chi...all hosted a weekend long party at FSU called Sigma Spies.....One chapter would have a party each day of the weekend. Very cool.
|
Women's colleges do this all the time. Of course they don't have a choice. I remember doind things with other sororities every once in a while. I remember we had a cook out with Phi Mu, which was a lot of fun.
|
We definitely did the whole two sorority/two fraternity mixers, but just 2 sororities was rare. Now, after travelling and visiting other chapters, our school was the exception rather than the norm. MANY sororities mix with one another in fun ways...doing makeup or lingerie parties, having slumber parties, even dinner at someone's house. I highly recommend it. It's done a WORLD of good in mending Panhellenic fences.

drinks for the mixer
On the subject of mixers, I found a drink that is like Red Bull but it has no sugar/carbs and 8 calories. It's actually a real energy drink and doesn't taste like .... Let me know if anyone is interested.
|
Why bring it up and not tell us what it is?
|
drinks
I wanted to see if there was any interest. It's called XS energy drink and you can only order by the case, it's around $22 for 12.
|
sniff sniff, i smell spam. this is the only thing you've talked about on the boards.
Be logical- this is a greekchat board. I'm gonna sit here an think- hey, this person who i've never heard of is talking about this awesome drink that i've never heard of. Oh yeah, let me get out the checkbook and send her $22 for 12 bottles of this fantastic poition. Right......... |
Now on the actual topic-
At Pitt this is done quite often. Sometimes two sororities and two fraternities will have a mixer- we call it a combine. But at least once a semester we're supposed to do something with just another sorority- we'll usually do a member ed type thing. Last semester we cooked breakfast and had an ME on eating disorders (i think) with Sigma Delta Tau. |
I'm a Kappa Delta and we had a date dash with the Chi O's this year. The ZTA's were supposed to be there too but something came up. It really does help the sororities on campus associate with each other and builds good relationships.
|
Funny you mention kd's, chi o's and zta's, b/c those are the only three sororities we have on campus here :) We had a dinner exchange and all-sorority social. What we did was all the groups passed around a sheet and you would volunteer to either go to another house or stay at your own house (the latter in order to make sure there would be girls around the house too). That was for dinner. We specified nice dressing (not quite pin attire but not really jeans tshirt either) and had nice food out, then talked during dinner and played games and watched movies. So there were girls from all three sororities at each of the houses and I think it turned out to be pretty fun! :)

The sororities on my campus tend to keep to themselves so much. I can't deny that we're guilty of it too. However, every year we talk about doing something like this, but we never do. How did y'all go about starting to do this, because I think this would be great for us! I mean, we have 6 NPC sororities on my campus and we never do anything together except for Recruitment, lol. We really need to get past the ugly competition
|
Our sorority loves the Sigma Kappas because their girls are so much like us. We're always doing stuff together and hanging out in each other's offices on campus. We're planning our first dual initiation party together.
|
I don't remember any mixers or formals with other sororities, but we did have parties. One of these was while I was in college, the others I've just heard about:
Pi Phi--Monmouth Duo Chi O--Owl-o-ween Party Theta--Kite & Key As you can see, finding commonalities makes for a neat theme! |
We have done mixers with other sororities before. I remember doing a tie dye mixer with Delta Phi Epsilon and we have done a couple dinner mixers with Phi Sigma Sigma. They were a lot of fun!
|
We just recently had a social with ADPi (it was a crush party) and Panhellenic always tries to have at least one All-Sorority Social a semester. We just had it last week and we iced cookies and decorated Christmas cards for kids at Children's Hospital. We all then went serenading to all the Fraternities (11 of them) and took them the cookies.
|
We have mixers, crush parties, socials and community service events with the other sororites on campus. I think we had one last month with ADPi. I think we did a few with some other sororites last year too. I think that a few of the sororities (not us) on campus were paired with other sororities for greek week and homecoming too because of the shortage of fraternities on our campus (they all keep getting kicked off by IFC). Sometimes the socials with the gals are more fun than the socials/mixers with the guys cause we can kick back and not have to worry about being "cute".

Rake and Run
We did a Rake and Run one night with Delta Zeta...
It was fun, but we didn't really get to spend a whole lot of time getting to know anyone but those in our Rake groups. |
Rake and Run? Can you explain please thanks:)
|
We actually had an All Greek Mixer at our school. It was pretty cool. Everyone was invited and there was a good turn out. I think "free food" had something to do with it.;) But I loved the idea.
|
At our school, we do a mixer with the other sorority at least once a year. It helps us to build up our relationship because things are pretty intense with there being only two NPC sororities on this campus.
|
ok so we are having organized mixers on the down low every thursday night, cause its like against the law in my town for greeks to mix, but we decided tht at 9 w mix wit a different sorority each week then at 10 frat, i think thats such an awesome way for all the panhellenic sistes to get to know eachothor
|
Hey guys i just got appointed social chair of my sorority and was wondering if there are any brooklyn sororities and fraternities willing to mix and get to know eachother?
|
At my school we actually get fined if we don't have a mixer with another sorority at least once a semester....
