Badge rules?

We kind of hijacked lionlove's thread with this topic :) and I thought it deserved its own thread. I've learned some interesting tidbits (I still can't imagine not being allowed to have a chapter guard...) and I'd like to find out what different org's rules are. I'm particularly interested in hearing from NPC sororities, NIC fraternities, NPHC groups, local and regional groups... everyone actually :)

So please answer the following...

Name your GLO

Describe your badge and new member pin

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)

Can you use a badge buddy?

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)

My answers...

Name your GLO
Alpha Epsilon Phi

Describe your badge and new member pin
Badge = the Greek letters set with a total of 27 pearls on a gold bar.
NM pin = the crest (columns) without the Greek letters.

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)
Always over the heart, can be worn on a suit jacket, but not on athletic wear or on an overcoat. Other pins go below or next to the badge.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
Nope, but we were strongly encouraged to do so. I wore mine most of the time.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
We can attach a chapter guard, but the guards have to be ordered from nationals. They are pearl set to match the badge.

Can you use a badge buddy?
Not sure... I never heard of a badge buddy before RedRoseSAI mentioned it in the other thread. I wouldn't use one, simply because part of the purpose of a guard is to make sure you don't lose your badge.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
No :( otherwise I'd have made my new member pin into a pendant long ago.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)
Very few :( I think my mom would have loved to have a mother's pin, but we don't have one.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?

No, but it is encouraged.

It differs from chapter to to chapter. Our badge is worn over the heart. We have 2 styles of attire that it is acceptable to wear it with. A solid-colored button up shirt and slacks OR meeting attire which is the same but includes a tie -- cannot wear open toed shoes. Also the badge may not be worn if you are consuming alcohol.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
Nope, just on Mondays (they wear badge attire to school that day) and at meetings.

Sure.. Chapter guards, crests, dangles... here is an example.

The Grand Regent has a special badge modeled after the founders'. Past regents get a special badge... We also have a program called "Alpha Affiliates" -- the top 10 seniors in Sigma Nu are inducted each year. They get a special badge. Our president can also wear a special badge.. Here's a picture of that.

Name your GLO

Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority

Describe your badge and new member pin
Active badge: http://www.burrpatt.com/AlphaSigmaAlpha/default.htm in top left hand corner.
Pledge pin is the same shape, only it's a single layer in silver and has the ASA letters only.

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)

Badges are worn over the heart with pin attire (dressed up). Other pins go below your badge. We used to be told you could not wear the pin on a lapel - but I've asked national ritual chairs and they said this is not true. I think as long as the jacket is staying on you can wear it on a lapel.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?

No, I don't believe so.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)

Yes - chapter guards & officer dangles.

Can you use a badge buddy?

Never heard of them till now.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?

Yes

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)

We have council pins for national council members, the Phoenix Recognition Pin for a non-member or member who has done a lot for the sorority (we gave it to our sweethearts) and the Mother Patroness Pin, usually for women who are longtime advisors.

Zeta Tau Alpha (women's) Fraternity

*the pledge pin: A silver carpenter's square enameled in turquoise, worn by all Fraternity members prior to Initiation.

*the badge: A small, black enameled shield superimposed upon a gold shield, bearing a five-pointed crown with the letters "ZTA" arranged around it and the word "Themis" in greek lettering. Themis is our patron goddess, the Greek goddess of justice. Only initiated members may where the badge and the crest. It can be ordered in a variety of styles: silver, 10k gold, 14k gold, and with various jewels of choice surrounding the face (diamonds, pearls, sapphire, ruby, emerald, amethyst, garnet, and turquoise enhancements). Most people in my chapter get the silver badge. Mine is plain 10k gold, but I want to send it in someday to get jewels on it.

*Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)

Both the pledge pin and the badge are worn over the heart, and only while in proper attire (no t-shirts, jeans, or sweatsuits for example) No other jewelery is to be worn with the badge during rituals with the exception of a lavalier (not your own- only one that your fraternity boyfriend gave to you), an engagement ring, or a wedding ring. Any other pins are to be worn below the badge as a sign of respect for the badge.

*Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
No, but usually they are very excited and want to wear it all the time.

*Can you attach anything to your badge?
chapter guards, pearl drops (for getting a 4.0 during the last semester), and officer dangles.

*Can you use a badge buddy?

what the heck is that? lol

*Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?

NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT! Although we pay for our badges, the badge is still considered property of Zeta Tau Alpha, and it is ONLY to be worn as a badge and nothing else. There are, however, crest rings available for purchase.

*What other official jewelry does your GLO have?

**The Honor Ring: awarded to alumnae who devote extensive volunteer work to the Fraternity.

**The mother's pin: A small, turquoise blue and silver crown with the outline of a white violet. It may be worn by the mothers of initiated members.

**The White Violet pin: for someone who has been a member for 50 years or more.

we also have lavaliers, pendants, and various styles of rings (some with letters, some with the crest, some with the crown, etc)

Name your GLO
Alpha Gamma Delta

Describe your badge and new member pin
Badge = a monogram of the Greek letters, with the Delta plain, the Gamma chased, and the Alpha may be decorated either plain, with 14 pearls, or with a diamond and pearls. Our International President wears one decorated with 14 diamonds.

NM pin = a shield of red, buff, and green. Described heraldically its: on a shield, parti per pale or and vert, a fess gules.

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)
Collegiates must wear their badge over the heart in the traditional manner. Alumnae may wear their pins in the traditional way, on a suit lapel, or on a collar.
Any other honor pins or men's fraternity pins must be worn lower and to the left of the badge.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
No, but you are strongly encouraged to do so as often as you like. Of course, not on sweatshirts or ripped jeans, etc.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
We can attach a chapter guard. I've also seen some pretty Crest guards. They can be ordered plain, chased, or with pearls. Alumnae often wear their Honors of Epsilon Pi instead (see below).

Can you use a badge buddy?
I've never heard of one before, so I'm not sure! I'm guessing no.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
Yes! We have special coverters you can buy, once you're an alumna.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)
We have TONS of offiical jewelry--I especially love our Mother's Pins, the Rose Drop Bracelet, and the Foundation Pendant given to the senior with the Highest GPA. The other big official jewelry are our Honors of Epsilon Pi, which are given to alumnae who serve the Fraternity. I think there are 8, and the longer you serve, the higher the honor. The top honor, the Circle of Epsilon Pi, is so rarely given that less than 20 women in our nearly 100 years have received it.

Edited for bad formatting!

Ginger 11-01-2002 11:48 AM

I pretty much covered ours in the other thread, but I'll post them again. Plus I got to find out what all other jewelry we had!

Name Your GLO
Delta Omicron

Describe your badge and new member pin
Our badge is a golden lyre with the letters Delta and Omicron inscribed. Jewled badges are available, but I've never seen one.

New member pins are the silver letters Delta and Omicron.

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)
It must be worn over the heart, only on a shirt or blouse (if wearing a suit jacket, it should be worn on the inside layer). Pin attire is a dress/skirt or a <i>very</i> nice pair of slacks. The informal rule of thumb is, if you're wearing socks, you shouldn't be wearing your pin. Any other pins must be worn below and to the left of the Delta Omicron badge.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
When I pledged, yes. (well, within reason of course!) However, I believe the new rule is that pledges are not required, but highly encouraged.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
No.

Can you use a badge buddy?
Absolutely not!

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
Absolutely not! (although I wish we could)

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)
We can order officers pins, but hardly anyone ever does. We also have a few recognition pins (Star of DO, which is a Senior Honour Pin and some others...) 25 and 50 year pins, and a Mother's pin.

Name your GLO : Sigma Alpha Iota

Describe your badge and new member pin : New member pin is 7 gold panpipe
Badge is a circle of pearls with panpipes in the middle and our letters are on the outside of the circle

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc): We have to wear it over the heart, and a suit jacket is ok but nothing else. If there is another organization's badge it may be worn at the same level but not above. We are not allowed to wear our badge when we are wearing anything made of denim or if we are wearing athletic clothes or shorts.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times? No but we definitely encourage it

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc) Yes we have chapter guards and guards for officers

Can you use a badge buddy? I'm assuming no...

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring? Nope

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc) We have award jewelry for members and non members who have distinguished themselves in the field of music, and we have accessory jewelry as well (crest rings, dinner rings, lavalieres)

Name your GLO Sigma Alpha Iota

Describe your badge and new member pin Our badge looks like this: http://www.sai-national.org/resource/badgeSAI.gif The Member-in-Training pin is just the pan pipes without the circle of pearls or greek letters.

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)

The Rules say...

The pledge pin, regulation badge or patroness badge is placed on the left side, over the heart. It is always attached to dresses or blouses, never on suit jackets or coats (hmmm...maybe that's an outdated rule? I see tons of SAIs wearing their badges on suit jackets. Anyway...) The regulation badge should never be turned into a charm.

The recognition pin is worn on a suit lapel or coat collar or lapel as a sign of fraternity membership when the badge cannot be seen.

A guard may be attached to the badge with a short chain and pinned below and to one side of the badge.

If the badge of another fraternity is also worn, it may be chained to the Sigma Alpha Iota badge or be kept separate, but it should not be worn above it. (The two may be worn at the same level beside each other.)

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times? They were when I was in college - not sure how it is nowadays.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc) Attach away!

Can you use a badge buddy? Yes.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring? NO!

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc) We have Awards - the Ring of Excellence (fraternity's highest honor), Sword of Honor, Ruby Sword of Honor, Diamond Sword of Honor, Rose of Honor, Rose of Dedication (those are all guards), and Patroness Badges. Also, I believe the National President's badge is made of diamonds instead of pearls, and is slightly larger. There are also special badge guards for National Officers and Province Officers, and probably lots of other things I don't know about!

Thanks aephi alum, for starting this thread!

Delta Zeta Sorority

Describe your badge and new member pin
Golden lamp with a diamond in the flame, surrounded by wings, resting on an ionic column with 4 seed pearls at the base of the lamp, Greek letters "DZ" in black enamel on the lamp.
New member pin is a black enamel diamond shaped pin w/a golden lamp in the center.
*I'm apparently not talented enough to insert the pic of it here, so I give up!

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)
Badge can be worn with professional/business professional attire...rule of thumb, badge is never to be worn with jeans. Can be worn on a suit jacket/vest/sweater, as long as the item is fastened, and not intended to be removed. (If you plan on taking your suit jacket off, or wear it unbuttoned, it should be worn on the blouse underneath). Any other pin should be worn below the badge.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
No.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
Yes, guards & officer dangles are permitted. Also, if a woman is "pinned" by a fraternity man, she can connect her badge to the fraternity pin much like a guard is attached.

Can you use a badge buddy?
Not likely.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
No, darn it.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)
National President's Pin (I think?), Woman of The Year Pendant, Fathers & Mother's pins, several awards pins, and for those milestones like 50 years (Order of the Golden Rose), etc.

It's a piece of sturdy, decorative fabric with a pin on the back. The idea is to pin your badge and all its guards to the badge buddy, then pin the badge buddy to your clothing, thus eliminating 19,383 pin holes in your blouse, and saving the time of pinning all those guards. Personally, I'm not a fan of them, but that's just me.

Ginger 11-01-2002 12:24 PM

Badge Buddies Are.....

To answer the question about Badge Buddies......

They are decorative pieces of fabric to which some members (generally older women or highly recognized members) attach their badge, chapter guard if applicable, and any recognition pins they may have. Then, the Badge Buddy (piece of fabric) only is pinned to the blouse. It is meant to save wear and tear on your blouse.

NM pin
http://www.kappasigma.org/clipart/pa...0Pin_color.htm

Where can you wear your badge?
I guess it differs from chapter to chapter, but my chapter has really strict badge protocol.
The badge is always worn over the heart, with the chapter guard and extraneous jewelry slightly lower. On layers of clothing, the badge should be displayed on the outermost layer over the heart. We can wear our badges on the lapels of suits, but not on outerwear, and only with badge wear (shirt & tie/slacks, suit, or formal sweater/slacks)

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
No, only when they are wearing a collared/polo shirt or letters

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
We can attach a chapter/crest guard and dangles

Can you use a badge buddy?
No

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
There are some really old badge rings, but our official ring has the imprint of the badge on it.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)
Very few (as most fraternities)...We have a sweetheart badge (a mini version of our badge with seed pearls), and a president's badge with gavel guard

Re: Badge rules?

Name your GLO

Phi Delta Theta

Describe your badge and new member pin

The Phi Delta Theta badge was first made in 1849. It consisted of a flat gold shield with a scroll in the lower part bearing the Greek letters Phi Delta Theta, and an eye in the upper portion. Beginning in 1866, a sword attached to the shield was commonly worn, but the attachment was not officially a part of the badge until it was formally adopted by the Convention of 1871. The badge, except as to size and ornamentation, has not been changed since then. The badge is made of gold or platinum, and consists of a shield, with a scroll bearing the letters of Phi Delta Theta over the fesse and nonbril points, an eye over the honor point, and a sword attached by a chain from the sinister chief point to the hilt. The badge may be jeweled, and the scroll may be enameled in white and the eye in black. The sword shall always be worn with the shield, and both may be made in one piece. Every member shall wear the badge at all times appropriate. The proper place for it is over the heart rather than on the coat lapel. The code provides that only initiated members of the Fraternity, their mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, or fiancées should wear the badge.

New Member pin
The first Phikeia button was adopted in 1894 and was the first pledge button to be used by any fraternity. The present badge pin was designed in 1900. It is a square with rounded corners with a white diagonal bar across it bearing the Greek word phikeia. Above and below the bars are two blue fields with three gold stars in each field.

Where can you wear your badge(does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)?

The proper place for it is over the heart rather than on the coat lapel. All other membership pins should be under and to the left of the badge.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
No. But they may if they so wish.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
Yes, chapter guards could be used, but it is not a common practice.

Can you use a badge buddy?
I have no idea what that is...but I would guess no.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
nope...but in the past mothers, daughters, fiances, qives may have worn it as some type of ornamental jewerlry. I have seen pictures of it as a stick pin, necklace, and even ring.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)

Our General Council President is invested in the President's badge which is just AMAZING. It consists of a large gold version of our coat-of-arms with the fraternity badge with pearls imposed on top....it is a beautiful thing...if I can find pics (I have some at home...but not here at work) I will post them if I get a chance.

We have a ring featuring the coat of arms that members can buy. We also have a ring that features the shield portion of our badge that you can also purchase, as well as rings with the greek letters on them.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
No

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
Yes, but I wouldn't as an undergraduate. Maybe I will collect gaurds and dangles when I graduate.

Can you use a badge buddy?
Probably not. But when a brother dies we wear a 2"x2" square of black fabric underneath.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
No, but we can engrave the design on some things. Just not the actul badge.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)

Our Balanced Man New Member badge is a circle with a stylized drawing of the "balanced man", with our letters at the top, "The Balanced Man" at the bottom, and the phrase "Spirit Healthy, Body Healthy" in greek surrounding the outer rim. New members are required to wear their Balanced Man Pin at all times.

Our Epsilon pin (or active pin) is in the shape of a golden heart, with a black shield mounted on the heart, our greek letters at the top of the shield in gold, and a gold skull and crossbones at the bottom. Pearls surround the rim of the heart. It is to be worn at all times when dressed up for fraternity functions (i.e. Chapter meeting, etc.) We are allowed to wear chapter and officer guards with them, as well. Variations of the pin can be worn, as the pins sent out by our nationals now do not have pearls on them. One pin is surrounded by rubies and pearls, and is done in the original style of the founders (the epsilon is below the skull and crossbones). This is the Grand President's pin, and he is the only member allowed to wear such a pin.

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)
The pin is worn over the heart above all other pins. We used to have to wear it on the innermost shirt closest to the heart, but I think it's ok to wear it on a suit jacket or something.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
Not at all times, but they can wear it to meetings or whenver we do a chapter function where we would be properly dressed

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
We can attach a chain with dangles for each position that we hold

Can you use a badge buddy?
A badge guard, as we called it, can either be the letters for our chapter's distinction or a coat of arms

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
Yes, but only when you are an alumnae

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)
We have alumnae pins (small, maroon triangle with no scroll), mother's pins, 50 year pins, and violet pins

Re: Badge rules?

Name your GLO

Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity

Describe your badge

http://vintagefraternitypins.com/ima...phimualpha.jpg
The stones -- twelve pearls and six garnets placed as shown -- are standard. For years, the Fraternity has offered a badge with a scroll border and no stones, but consideration is now being given to discontinue that option, since the stones form part of the official design.

and probationary member pin

http://www.sinfonia.net/iotaepsilon/pmpin.jpg
(It's just the triangle, shown here on a black background.)

Where can you wear your badge?

“Nearest the heart.” By tradition, it can be worn on dress shirts, vests, or pullover sweaters, but not on coat lapels, collars, ties, the watch pockets of vests, coat sweaters, or T-shirts.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?

That varies with chapters, I think. Back in the day, my chapter did.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)

We can (and typically do) use chapter guards. I know that officer dangles are available from our official jeweler (Burr Patterson & Auld), but I've never actually seen a brother wear one.

Can you use a badge buddy?

No. A black ribbon can be worn behind the badge as a sign of mourning, and some chapters have their probationary members wear a small ribbon of red, black or gold behind their probationary member pin at certain times -- this is connected with Fraternity education programs.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?

We don't have a regulation on this, but it would certainly be unusual and frowned upon. We have rings available.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)

Once upon a time we had sweetheart badges, but I don't know if they are still available. We have no distinctive officer badges or pins.

<b>Name your GLO</b> Alpha Delta Pi

<b>Describe your badge and new member pin<b> Our pin is a diamond gold badge with a black enamel center which pictures the clasped hands, the two stars, and the Greek letters Alpha Delta Pi. Our new member pin is a lion with the letters Beta Upsilon Alpha. I cannot find pics right now, but if another adpi can they should post them.

<b>Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)</b> We wear our badge over our heart, and only when we are in pin attire (nice interview type clothing). If we are wearing multiple layers we wear it on the inner most one closest to our hearts. Also, other pins must be below the ADPi pin.

<b>Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?</b> No, the new member pin, like the adpi pin must be worn only with pin attire. So generally new members only wear it to meetings and usually once a week atleast my chapter tries to all dress up and wear our pins.

<b>Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)</b> Yes, there are chapter guards and also TCC guards, which you can attach dangles to.

<b>Can you use a badge buddy?</b> I have never seen an adpi use one.

<b>Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?</b> Yes, once you become an alumna, you can buy settings to put your pin in. I also know one person who made it into a charm for their charm braclet after college.

<b>What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc) </b>

There is the presidents ring, mothers pin, crest recognition pin, alumnae recognition pin, 25 year and 50 year pin/pendent, and the adpi recognition pin.

Kappa Delta Sorority

Describe your badge and new member pin
Sorry, I can't figure out how to post a picture, so I'll just have to describe it!

First Degree pin: a white Norman shield, divided into three sections by a green triangel that bears three gold stars.
Second Degree pin: open equilateral triangle of gold superimposed upon a dagger with straight lines connecting the center of thebase with the center of each side.
Official badge: diamond-shaped black enamel bearing the dagger symbol and the letters Kappa and Delta and AOT, surrounded by yellow or white gold.

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they
have to be below your badge, etc)

Must be worn over the heart, and above any other pins. If you're wearing multiple layers of clothing it must be on the outermost layer.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
No, but they're usually so excited to have them that they want to wear them all the time!

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
Yes, chapter guards and dangles are acceptable.

Can you use a badge buddy?
I have no idea.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
Yes, if you are an alumna.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)
We have special pins for Nautilus Circle (25 years of membership), White Rose Circle (50 years), Emerald Circle (60 years), and Diamond Circle (75 years).

Name your GLO
Alpha Xi Delta

Describe your badge and new member pin
The member pin is a quill with the Greek letters on the feather. (I've heard people say it looks like a toothbrush.) You can get it in silver or gold and with a row or pearls or diamonds on the rib of the quill. Our new member pin is probably the least mystically symbolic of anyone's - it's the letters on a black-enameled "football" shape! The only "meaning" is in the letters - the shape is decorative.

Where can you wear your badge?
"Your Quill is worn on dresses, blouses or sweaters. It may be worn on the lapel of a suit, but is not worn with sportswear such as shorts or jeans." Other pins must be worn below it.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
No. They have the same rules as members do for attire.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
"Wear the guard either below the Quill or to the left of the feathers of the Quill. Dangles representing involvement in the chapter or national organization may be added to guard chains. Nothing is worn above the Quill or new member pin. For example, if you accept a man's fraternity pin, place it beneath the Quill."

Can you use a badge buddy?
Never heard of them before, so I doubt it.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
Yes. Our official jeweler sells them. Well, it doesn't make a good ring because of its shape, but pendants, yes.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have?
Mother's and father's pins, colony pin (like the NM pin with a chain link around it and no enamel), the president's medallion (national president), recognition Quill (tiny unlettered version of badge worn on outer coats), honor key (used to be a ring with a sphinx on it but they changed it to a crest charm), 25-year charm; and Order of the Rose/Pearl/Diamond (years of membership; you can get a Pearl pendant too). You can buy rings, etc. with the crest on them, but I don't think they're "official."

Phi Mu

Our badge is a gold quatrefoil (you can see this shape on www.phimu.org) with a black quatrefoil overlaid on it. Then there is a gold banner with the Greek letters PHi and Mu above a hand holding a heart above another gold banner with three stars.
Our new member badge is a black quatrefoil outlined in gold, with a gold greek letter Phi on it.

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)

Officially our badge is to be worn over the heart. Place your right hand relaxed on your chest with your thumb in the superstenal notch and the badge should go right above where your pinky falls. The badge should only be worn when in business casual or dressier attire. Other pins should never be worn above or equal to the Phi Mu badge. Aboyfreind's pin, Order of Omega, etc should be worn between the badge and the chapter guard. The chapter guard should be just below the badge.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?

They don't have to wear the official badge at all times, but when they don't they should be wearing their pledge ribbons.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)

A chapter guard can be attatched to the back of the pin and officer dangles can be hung from the chain.

Can you use a badge buddy?

Oh oops, no, we don't do the fabric thing, but we have these little metal guards that keep the badge n if it comes unhooked.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?

Yes, but it is not to be worn in a utilitarian manner. IE: Same rules apply as to wearing the badge: Only with business casual or dressier clothing.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)

Wehave mother's pins, that's really all I've seen. The national executive president's badge is HUGE and is encrusted with diamonds and onyx. It's GORGEOUS!!!

I couldn't find a picture of just the Alpha Delta Pi badge, but y'all can find it at http://www.alphadeltapi.org/wsb/inde...IPP_499&page=4 at the bottom right. The badge can be purchased plain, with pearls, with pearls & jeweled points (shown here - this is identical to my pin), with opals, or alternating pearls & jewels. The Grand President wears a pin with diamonds instead of the pearls, while our Grand President Erimetis (Maxine Blake) wears one with two rows of diamonds that is absolutely magnificent!

Pins can be made into rings or pendants on a permenant basis, or that which removed to be given to another initiate.

Interesting, there is a picture of an ADPi from back in the 1850's and she's wearing the badge on a hair band!

KTSNAKE, thanks for posting the Badge Thread!

Everyone nees to check it out!

LXA a Cresent with Seed Pearls in the Creasent.

LXA: Lambda set on top of Chi Alpha with a choice of stones.

DP is at the center of the round of the cresent. Secret meaning!

While I have many, My original is White Gold, ( Special Order ) Pearls in the Cresent and Saphires in the Lambda.

My second favorite is Yellow Gold, Pearls, Rubys and Diamonds at at the point of the Lambda.

Both have Guards with pearls. Guard, chapter designation attached by a chain, this helps keep your Badge from getting lost!

Require our Members to wear them no! Sad, as they should wear them to show their affiliation.

When to wear:

Not with patch pocket, jeans, pants or t-shirts/sweatshirts!

Many of the members today do not have Badges, why?

Are you not proud of the Frat./Soro. that you are members of?

Check, lambdachi.org for showings of our Badges or check KTSNAKE's thread above!

Great Job Kev!:)

Describe your badge and new member pin

The Badge of Alpha Sigma Phi is almost exactly the same design as that created by founder Louis Manigault in 1845. (The original Badge was, however, flat and non-dimensional.) It is the only fraternity badge that is rectangular with right-angle corners. The Badge of Alpha Sigma Phi may never be modified in size or jeweled in any way. Every member of Alpha Sigma Phi wears exactly the same badge. Inscribed on the back of each member's Badge is inscribed the Brother's name, initiation date, chapter name (in Greek letters) and chapter founding date.

http://www.burrpatt.com/AlphaSigmaPh...hasigmaphi.jpg

The Pledge Pin of Alpha Sigma Phi is an adaptation of the Badge of Alpha Kappa Pi, which consolidated with Alpha Sigma Phi in 1946. It is worn on the left lapel of a suit or sport coat or over the heart on sweaters or shirts. The Pledge Pin is the property of the Chapter and is entrusted to the Pledge in accordance to the instructions given to him. The symbolism of the Pledge Pin is explained in the Pledging Ritual.

http://www.ou.edu/student/greek/alph..._pledgepin.gif

The Pledge Pin is the only insignia of the Fraternity that a pledge may use prior to initiation; nor is a Pledge permitted to wear jewelry with the Fraternity insignia on it or any item with the Fraternity's coat of arms. A pledge may wear clothing with the three Greek letters of the Fraternity.

Historical note: prior to the consolidation with Alpha Kappa Pi in 1946, Alpha Sigma Phi's pledge pin was a diamond-shaped pin with rounded corners. The pin was divided in three sections: gold, cardinal and stone. It was always worn with the gold part up. After the adoption of the Alpha Kappa Pi Badge, the old pledge pin served as the "little sister" pin until such organizations were abolished in the early 1990s.

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)

The Badge is worn over the heart on shirt, sweater or vest; never on lapel or jacket. A chapter guard pin (shown attached to the Badge) may be added as well as officer insignia on the chain of the guard. No Brother ever allows any person not a member of the Fraternity to wear his Badge, except for the wife or fiancee of a brother. It is a tradition that the Badge of the Fraternity is willed at death to the Fraternity and returned to its archives.

http://www.ou.edu/student/greek/alph...P_AA_badge.jpg (This is a picture of my own badge.)

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?

Depends on the individual chapter. Traditionally, pledge pins are worn at all times during 'Pinnacle Week' (the last week before initiation). For three days after initiation, newly-initiated members wear their badges with cardinal and stone ribbons.

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)

Yes. In keeping with the tradition that the badge is not jeweled, the chapter guard and officer dangles, if worn, should not be jeweled. An excessive number of dangles on the chapter guard chain detracts from the badge and is frowned upon.

Can you use a badge buddy?

No.

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?

No.

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)
Each chapter has a special President's pin that is a replica of the original badge and resembles the Delta Beta Xi key. A few chapters treasure an actual Badge used during the early days at Yale, gifts of the brothers who wore them as students. The President's badge is passed on within the Chapter from President to President, and remains the property of the chapter.

http://www.burrpatt.com/AlphaSigmaPh...badgeasphi.jpg

The Delta Beta Xi Key - A special key, a replica of the Delta Beta Xi badge worn by Alpha Chapter at Yale from 1864 to 1875, recognizes outstanding service to the Fraternity. It is worn only by Brothers who are recipients of the award of Delta Beta Xi. No more than ten Brothers each year by the Grand Council, based on nominations by Chapters. The Delta Beta Xi key is suspended by a cardinal-and-stone ribbon, similar to a military medal.

http://www.ou.edu/student/greek/alph...d_b_xi_key.jpg

The Recognition Pin and Monogram Pin - The Recognition Pin is a small replica of the open book with its hieroglyphics and pen. The Recognition Pin permits members unknown to each other to recognize the common bond of our Fraternity when the Badge is not worn or obscured by the suit jacket. The Monogram Pin is a simple gold pin with the Greek Letters. Both of these pins are worn on the left lapel of a suit or a sport coat only by initiated members of the Fraternity.

http://www.burrpatt.com/AlphaSigmaPh...nbtnasiphi.jpg

The Official Ring - Set with a rectangular flat black stone, the ring has engraved on the stone the shield as it appears on the Badge. The base of the stone is surounded by a wreath of oak leaves -- so the top of the ring is a replica of the Oak Wreath Seal. One shank has the coat of arms in gold and the date, 1845. The other shank has the Pledge Pin in gold. The Alpha Sigma Phi Ring is correctly worn with the base of the shield towards the tip of the finger. (A ring with a family's coat of arms is worn the opposite way.) It is worn only by initiated members.

http://www.burrpatt.com/AlphaSigmaPh...aphi_small.jpg

The Phoenix Mark - A contemporary symbol of the Fraternity that relates to its rituals and reflects the upward movement of "The Old Gal." A pin with the Phoenix Mark and Greek Letters is worn only by initiated members of the Fraternity.

The Sister Pin - A seven pointed star of gold bearing on its face crossed sabers on a field of black above which are the Greek Letters. The sister pin is worn only by the female members of the family of a Brother or by his fiancee. It is the only insignia of the Fraternity that may be jeweled.

tridgirl 11-02-2002 06:42 PM

This is what I know about our insignia, you can find more at the tridelta.org website

New Member Pin- Three Deltas surround an inverted delta in the middle, made out of green enamel

There are two degrees of initiation for Tri Delta and there is a pin of the second degree, a silver trident stick pin. I didn't know that this was public knowledge, but its on our public website so I felt okay about posting it. You don't get to keep the trident, they are perment chapter property, but you can purchase a gold trident guard for you stars and crecent pin, the only offical accessory for our pins

Active Pin- The pin is gold with a crecent surrounding three stars, each star with a pearl in the middle. On the crecent there are the greek letter delta delta delta, on the back of each pin is the intials, member number, and greek letter of each chapter, for me Phi Omicron. Unlike many other GLOs our badge is completely uniform, you can't upgrade or get anything different, every badge in our history is exactly the same, with very few exceptions

When can you wear your pin: Only with pin attire, no denim or casual clother, october through april you have to wear hose with open toe shoes, or close toe shoes. You are discouraged from wearing it with formal wear and never when you drinking, just as with any form of letters. Any many other pins its worn over the heart, other pins to left and below.

Do your new memeber have to wear their pins at all times: not thier new member pins, but when you recieve the trident degree you never wear that pin on the outside of your clothes, which is probably why although the website descibes the pin there isn't a picture of it, we usually tell girls to wear it on their bra strap, its only one night anyways.

Can you wear anything else with your badge: The only offical thing is the gold trident gaurd, there really aren't a lot of people who wear bangles on thier gaurds or even get gaurds, but I was one, you can get plain gold, or with a pearl on the tips of the trident.

Badge Buddy- never seen one don't know

Pendent or ring - Yes, you can do both when you go alum

Other official jewlery - There is an executive board pin with emeralds in the stars and engraving on the moon, the diamond circle and golden circle pin for 75 and 50th anniversiary of initiation. Our chapter has a beautiful presidents pin with opal instead of pearls and a gavel gaurd, not a standard issue, but beautiful.

Name your GLO Tau Beta Sigma, National Honorary Band Sorority

Describe your badge and new member pin our badge is a diamond shaped badge outlined in pearls and has a black center with a lyre, lower case TBS and a star. This is not what you get when you get initiated. You have to buy this on your own. When you get initiated you get a membership pin which is in the shape of the crest. our new member pin is a bar of music with the staff and clef in gold on a white back round. the notes are on the g and c spaces.

Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc) our pins are worn over your heart on the out side layer of clothing with any other random pins below and other badges/new member pins on the same level as it.

Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times? my chapter strongly suggests that the MC wear them at all times but if they forget oh well they forget

Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc) if you have a badge you usually wear a gaurd and dangles although i've discovered that the membership pin looks kinda cute with a chapter gaurd!

Can you use a badge buddy? probably

Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring? hmmm probably not

What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc go here to see all of our jewlery (http://www.burrpatt.com/KappaKappaPs...sAndBadges.asp) we have a few other pins there, and we have lavaliers too...i think thats all the jewlery
