UF Sigma Chi's could be in trouble
The UFSigma Chi's are accuse of dumping flour, milk, bourbon and maggots and some of the women of Kappa Alpha Theta at a date function.

That is so gross. I hope they get fried.
I wonder why the Thetas let them take them out there and blindfold them, knowing what they'd done in the past? |
It depends on their relationship.. You never know.. there could be an exchange of pranks between the two groups and this one simply just went too far.
I'm SURE there is something to this that's not being told. |
Hmm. This sounds like something that was an old tradition between the 2 groups, but then the sorority had a big membership turnover or took lots of women who didn't like Sigma Chi.
A fraternity and sorority on my campus had a slip & slide pimps/hos mixer every year...they were very close and did lots of things together. But I don't think anyone else would have suggested that with them. |
Man...why can't we just all have fun. College is suposed to be the most fun ever. Why do some people have to be imature? I hate this. We as Greeks should set the example. This rant is going to be placed in Chit Chat, as does not neccisalry relate to Greek life.
|
Well, dumping flour on someone is one thing, especially if it's a "tradition" and is expected to happen (flour is relatively harmless). But blindfolding and dumping maggots and bourbon is another thing entirely. Who thought that would be "fun and neat"? And how did that fit with the theme of the mixer? (Who knew bikers wasted their bourbon pouring it on other people?).
Of course, I went to a school where elaborate "announcings" and serenades didn't happen, so I can't speak from experience. |

Here are some pictures from their annoncing. I'm assumning this is the event that the newspaper was refering to. I had no idea that this is what happens at some kinds of announcing. We just bring candy and ast nice to our dates...jeesh... |
|
I find myself saying this more and more.
Unbelievable. These guys are WAY over the line. |
If it's a tradition and consensual, can't really see too much harm in flour and bourbon.
BUT MAGGOTS???????????????????????????? I would be PISSED AS HELL if I was someone that that happened to, or if it was one of my sisters. And the other stuff they said they did and "toned it down"- draping dead animals over the girls? That is sick. Not to mention highly unsanitary. People have some f'ed up ideas of "fun". These guys deserve whatever punishment is given to them. |
What is an announcing? And WHAT dear God is going on in that last picture posted?
|
Um, OK, call me old (I'm all of 24!) but when I was in school we never would have allowed a sister to get on her knees in front of a fraternity man to eat something out of his pants! If a sister did this it would be a reason to write her up.
Maybe I'm a grump but this doesn't look like a whole lotta fun to me.:p |

I just can't believe that they wasted perfectly good bourbon. That's a real crime!

Yet another reason to THINK before you hire these photo companies to take pictures of your events. (Nothing against the photo companies, read on. . .) Would you be proud to show these photos to your parents, your neices/nephews/younger siblings, or your church family? ANYONE can see these pictures when the proofs are on the internet. I've gone to some of the popular photo company websites and seen "XYZ Sorority Bid Night" with alcohol in the pictures. According to my knowledge of the Green Book, Bid Night is still the last night of recruitment, and should be dry. If I can find those pictures, so can National Staff. Why risk it?
I'm not saying that I am totally innocent and never did some crazy, questionable things with guys, but there aren't pictures of it (that have surfaced, at least). In any case, the message is: STOP AND THINK. . .SEVERAL TIMES!! |
Ummm...... correct me if I'm wrong.....
These girls look like they're having a good time. The description of what was being poured on these girls is just downright disgusting, but obviously at the time these girls weren't minding it, because after one girl they would have stopped it. And what's with the eating stuff out of a guy's "area"???? |
What's with the kissing the guys and all that? I would hope KAT's International HQs is looking at this incident!! Also, if the sisters stood around and allowed this to happen to their new members, aren't they responsible as well???
|
I have to agree with PM Mama... Not one of these ladies or gentlemen, look like they are mad/disgusted or otherwise upset. The pictures show smiling, rowdy college students.
Though, I agree with the person who said.. be careful about inviting the photo people... There was a group in Flordia in September that invited partypics to their lake party... They were photographed with their bathing suit tops off and their dates covering their breasts... I could not imagine what their nationals thought, "hummm, not appropriate XY material, but at least their dates were proper enough to cover their tops so they did show nudity!" |
Of COURSE the pictures were of "happy" students.. why would a photographer take a picture of girls who are sulking in a corner?
And, put yourself in their place: if a girl came out & said "stop it" - tell me, do you think that would happen? This is hazing, plain & simple. KD closed a chapter last year because of similar incidents. Bottom line - when you represent your sorority, ie when people know outright "Oh, the KD's are coming over!" you do not do anything that can embarrass your chapter - local or nationally. |
AHHhhh....the joys of being greek at UF.
And most of you thought I was one of a kind from UF. :D :D |
I absolutely don't get it!!!

The party pics are a common thing at UF. At almost every party there is someone taking snap shots for the online community.
It's more like a PR thing, "Hey we're making this a public thing to show we're not doing anything wrong in our eyes." |
Flash Foto has been taking pics at all UF greek functions for at least 20 years (back in the days when my older sister went to UF). They're at all greek socials & date functions.
The proofs are delivered to the hosting GLO's house & everyone selects which they want. Putting them online is new - probably within the last couple years. It's easier for the company to sell more pictures that way. |
It is still Flash Foto they just dont bring the proofs to you anymore they put them online for people to order. I guess its easier for them and us...dont really need a flash chair anymore.
|
|
Party Pics can be a big liability if your party is doing anything to break campus policy. Just communicate to them that you don't want any pictures of certain things and they won't take them!
Many chapters are not smart about this! On our "dry" campus you need look no further than the party pics website to find pictures of guys taking hits off of beer bongs. |
Most universities in Florida use Flash Foto for their date functions and socials. We use to have the proofs delivered to our house but found it easier to have them posted online. Our school has a special password so that pictures will be viewed only by the UCF greeks.
|
passwords dont always work
In theory, the password idea is really good, but not fool proof.
I recently came across through some photos of girls without their tops on (with their dates hands covering them) at the Date Function of a UF Chapter. The page was "password protected"...but somehow people outside the chapter saw them! The pics were forwarded to me by someone...so it's that easy for people to get to them. |
Did you have to bring that story up???
Now you will have people from Greek Chat looking for those pics. If I'm thinking it was the same incident, last spring break down in Key West, girls from a certain sorority ( That my brothers and I are fond of) were extremely wasted and did what their nortoriously known for....being party girls.... they got snapped by a few digital cameras....Tops off and all...... It was my my ex-girls glo...... Yes, it was a bad joke... Yes, they got yelled at by the prez No, it was not FLASH..... Flash would not take such pics.......It was done by some frat boys who thought they'd be funny....... At first I thought it was funny myself.....But it's not something you post online......Those girls could easily get thrown out of their GLO for that. |
I heard about the Kappa picture like that. Actually, I saw it, because it was set as the wallpaper on one of the Pi Kapp's computers here.
|
hey UF_PikePC--
Who is to say that Flash wouldn't take those sort of photos? I mean, hell, they took pictures of a girl with her mouth on something coming out of a guy's pants!! A topless shot isn't much worse...or are you saying that they DIDN'T take the topless shot? |

So how about we calm down, and not snap at people. Thanks |
Flash Foto should really fix their password protection.
I have a friend in the nameless sorority and she was one of the girls with her top off. She sent me the link and I didn't even have to type a password in. |

It's against the law for them to take nude snap shots and then post them publicly. |
Then mentioned this on regular CNN tonight. Its going national so the school or Sigma Chi's will have to take some action or look bad. I see the party pics have allready been taken down.
|
They may or may not get into national trouble...As you can see in the articles, Sigma Chi was told to "tone down" the bikers and babes event...Evidently, some of the brothers did not take this advice to heart and pulled a few pranks. Nothing against Theta or anything but I'm not even in a sorority and I know the types of things that go on at Bikers and Babes. Girls who go to the event are usually pretty brave and well aware that they are to become a Sigma Chi's "bitch" for the night. The party is seriously out of control but wicked fun, speaking from experience...It's stupid pranks and all that, but it's not like these girls were beat up and tied up...They volunteered to be a part of this and went willingly...I know I'm probably going to get yelled at for this post but let me clear up that I am in no way supporting what Sigma Chi did...but this has gone on pretty much every year. no one forced those girls to go...so why blame the sigma Chi's for doing the same thing they always do, except not as bad as the years before! If you don't like what is going to go on at an event...DON'T GO! They can't have a party if no one goes to it!!
Ok, stepping down off my soapbox. Sorry in advance if this offends people, but it's just my opinion on the stuff that happened... |

To quote another sister of mine: The "Everyone's done it and we lived through it" mentality is dangerous. If you know the history of why chapters get their charters pulled, then you will see that this is always a reason the collegians give. Do you think the girls really knew they'd have to get on their knees in front of a guy, with the crowd cheering them on? Do you think she'd refuse? Have you ever had a crowd going "Go go go!" at you and then turned around and refused? Probably not. Peer pressure is incredible, isn't it? And on top of all that, do you think the girls knew that a photographer would be there? |
You're right about the Greek reputation comment... It obviously isn't as important to me, but I know that most people, going into the event, knew what was going to happen. The way the fraternity announced the event should have been a dead give away. I know at one sorority house, the girls went bobbing for dildos in a tub of whipped cream and had a cow heart put on her head. And that was JUST the announcing. As I said, I think it's actually pretty disgusting, but it does make for an interesting evening...
And you're also right, I don't know why charters get pukked etc. but I hope they save the charter pulling for the more serious crimes...like rape and drugging and other stuff like that. And actually, I am almost positive the girls knew Flash would be there...He's at everything! It seems they probably needed to cover their a$$'s after seeing the pics. But you are probably on the right track in that the girls probably din NOT think they would have those kinds of pictures taken! And you're definitely right about peer pressure. It's a very dangerous thing, and I'll just say again, I am in NO WAY supporting what they did, I'm just being a bit of Devil's Advocate and presenting the other side...which is mainly that I think these girls knew what was going to happen at the event, but did not know that those particular acts would be photographed. Have a GREAT day everybody! I have two exams...So wish me luck!!! :) |
Quote:
I would think that other sororities feel the same...everyone's nationals are on the same side when it comes to things like this. More serious crimes? It's bad enough to be photographed in front of your sorority house, with a dildo in your mouth! Do you think that picture is going to go away? No. And thanks to the internet, it'll be around the world in no time. Have you been emailed one of those Flashpartypic pictures of girls with their breasts exposed? Do you know who Libby Hoeler is? (do a google search on her to find out.) Girls really need to think about their behavior, now more than ever. |
I don't know if we would pull a charter for this, but if it was me, I'd pull it. I guess I don't understand what announcing is. Can someone explain that?
