Officer Positions

I just thought I would start a thread to see who was running for which officer positions. We just started the election process and Im running for VP Panhellenic as my first choice, 2nd is Honor Board, 3rd is Director Scholarship, 4th is alternate Panhellnic delegate and 5th is House Director. Just curious as to see who else is running for officer positions. Keep us updated as to which position, if any, you get.

hannahgirl 10-27-2002 02:47 PM

i'm running for President, Dir. of Rituals, and V.P. Programming (those are my top 3)
We will know the slate a week from Tuesday....crossing fingers!
ITB,
Andrea

hey ladies, I am also running for a position in my chapter. I've been debating about telling people what position i'm running for. Basically, I want people to slate me on what they think I would be best for, not what I told them I wanted. But since no one from my chapter reads these threads then I think I'm safe. haha!
First and foremost I want VP Social Standards. Then 2nd and 3rd i want Honor Board (Junior member/member at large), 4th i put VP Member Ed. and 5th I put either Director of new members or COB. (i don't remember). I really want my first choice. I am on Honor board now and I love it. Good luck to anyone else who is running. Keep us posted.

CarolinaDG 10-27-2002 07:44 PM

VP: Panhell is my first choice. I've thought about a couple of other things, but I'll keep those secret for now.;) I agree, I think that people should be slated based on who the chapter thinks is the best for whichever position, not who talks themself up enough to get slated. That's what the point of challenging is.

I'm currently director of house management.

sbhill, you were just initiated, right? I'd suggest not taking a VP right away because sometimes that burns people out really fast. It's up to you, of course, but especially with something like Panhell, which means being at two weekly meetings and every greek life event, it can get exhausting. Can I suggest instead if you run for a VP doing something like Communications? It's still a fairly heavy workload, but it might not burn you out as quick. Just suggestions, since I don't know you. Do what's best for you.:)

Good Luck Ladies!!!!!

tangerinedream 11-04-2002 05:49 PM

We just actually held our nominating committie, which i was on, and even though i was running for VP:Membership, i was slated into VP:Panhellenic. Our president had talked to me about this position before and she has big plans for me in this position. What all does panhellenic do at your all's schools? Also for someone else who has had a panhellenic position, how does the Executive Committees work?

CarolinaDG 11-04-2002 06:03 PM

I just wanted to update y'all...
I have decided to place president as first. The deal is, my best friend may be running, too, but I don't think she really wants it... she's just gotten some pressure to do it. If she gets slated than I won't challenge it, but we'll just have to see what happens...

VP: Panhell at my school is a very fun position. They make sure that the chapter knows about every greek event that happens. They head up homecoming, go to SEPC, and go to sorority council every week. They also are over intramurals and public relations directorships. It's one of those positions that you have to be willing to do everything that comes up, but it seems like a lot of fun to me. It's now my second choice.

WhiteDaisy128 11-04-2002 08:28 PM

I ended up getting Director of E-Communication for those that knew I had run for it. It's a little different with a colony but we have our officers all decided upon. I'll post the offical link to our new web page once we become a chapter!! It's coming up so soon - November 17th!!!

DG515 11-05-2002 02:43 AM

Hey everyone!
I'm a new sister (one week this saturday!) and so there are some offices I can't (and don't want to) hold *IE, President*. I would love to have an office though, and being as we have a reasonably small chapter (approx 30 sisters) *some of which are graduating this semester* I'll probably hold an office. I really want new member education, membership or communications. I think those would be fun to start with. Or maybe dir or rituals, although that would be kind of stressful.

DeltaGammaStar 11-05-2002 11:42 AM

Just to let ya'll know, we voted on our slate last night and I am now our VP: Membership Education!

Go me! :D

As a side note, one of my big sisters is currently our President (actually, she is techinically still our chapter's first President since we got our charter last year) and my other big sister was slated for President for next year! How cool is that!

Maybe I'll go for Pres next year....

I'm a sophomore, and just found out today I was elected to director of alumnae relations. Woo hoo! I'm excited :) I currently director of correspondence, so it's sort of along the same lines as that. Congrats to everyone with new positions, and good luck to those still running.

sailorchicDG 11-07-2002 01:14 PM

hey guys,
I ended up getting my second choice of Honor Board Junior member. I'm okay not getting my first choice, because I still get to be on Honor Board. Some of my sisters approched me and tried to encourage me to contest the slate, but I didn't want to cause drama within the chapter. The fact that some people thought that I would do a better job than the person who was slated ment so much to me. Like I said earlier, just wanted people to put me down because they thought I would do good (excuse the pun) in the position. The faith that my sisters have in me means so much more than the position ever could.

DG515 11-11-2002 02:18 AM

I just thought I'd update ya'll....we had elections tonight and I'm this years VP Communications....I'm really excited and my big annouced how proud she was to have me following in her footsteps (she's current VP Communications). I'm really excited! Now the hard part......transistion and learning all there is to learn. Good Luck fellow new office holders!
ITB,
Mandie

Hi :) I am a newbie to this forum!

With that being said - we just got our new slate tonight! I got my 1st choice: Director of E-communications. I'm really excited about this because I have so many great ideas about the website.

This is also a new position in our chapter - it was all on the VP of communications, but this will lighten the load for her.

hannahgirl 11-13-2002 12:11 AM

We just had elections last night and I was elected as VP Membership for next year. I'm excited even though I didn't get my top choice (President) but I have some awesome ideas for recruitment and I can't wait to get started!!! :D

DGTracy 11-25-2002 02:02 AM

We had elections a week ago and I got VP: Finance. I'm kind of nervous that I might not do a good job. My big is currently VP Finance and she did an awesome job.

CarolinaDG 11-25-2002 07:26 PM

Someone made a statement about not wanting to cause drama in the chapter by opposing (I tried to quote it but my comp's a little slow). Anyway, my question to all of y'all... if someone opposed you, would you be insulted, or would you understand that they just wanted the position? I'm opposing the slate for a position that everyone knew I wanted, and knew I'd be great for, and I'm the only one opposing a VP, but I was trying to think how I'd feel if someone opposed me. I think I'd be kinda hurt... but maybe it would just depend on the circumstance.

sbhill2 11-25-2002 07:35 PM

Our slate was posted tonight finally and here it goes: I didn't get my top choice of VP: Panhellenic which I am actually happy about because the more I thought about it, the more I felt like the other girls running for the position were more qualified. I wanted honor board but didn't get it. Oh well...Im not too bummed b/c I still could easily get a director position or assistant position. Hopefully I will get a position but IM happy for my big b/c she was posted to be VP: Communication and I think she will be the right person for that job. So Im hoping for a directors position so we will see in a week I guess or later Im not sure. Congrats to all officers so far.

CarolinaDG 11-26-2002 12:05 AM

Don't be bummed... I took a directorship that I didn't necessarily want last year, and it turned out to be a big stepping stone for me. And tonight I was elected VP: Panhellenic!:-) Look at where your strengths are. Maybe you'll do best for the chapter in PR or alum relations, if you're interested in VP: Panhellenic? Don't give up hope!:)

DeeGeeAndi 11-30-2002 02:38 AM

hey ladies i just wanted to say congrats to all of you who got positions in your chapters. i am now the new VP: Membership for my chapter and i'm totally psyched! anywho, once again congrats to all you ladies :D

I just found out tonight that I am going to be Director of House Management! I am pretty excited about that!

KTDG 12-18-2002 02:08 AM

wow new members in my chapter cant run for anything

KTDG 12-18-2002 02:09 AM

wow new members in my chapter cant run for anything, not even director positions..... my chapter stinks

Lil' Hannah 12-18-2002 12:02 PM

KT, I think these women were initiated sisters at the time of elections.

KTDG 12-18-2002 08:44 PM

so were we.........

CarolinaDG 12-18-2002 11:57 PM

We weren't allowed to run for VP's until we were members for a year, and weren't allowed to run for president until we sat on CMT (directors or VP's) but it was always my understanding that you WANTED to put new members in smaller directorships so that they could move up the ranks in their time in college, and have time to. Director, then VP, then president. Otherwise, you have a director running for president or a new initiate filling a VP, which tends to tire them out. I think it depends on what kind of situation you're in, though, and what the said vp/directorship is. I have personal beliefs (and maybe this is because I'm biased to this position) that a freshman can't be VP: Panhellenic because they don't know enough "big name" people in greek life, yet. Also, our VP: Panhellenic is in charge of things that the person would have to go through to really understand how they are run/won (*cough cough* Derby Days! Homecoming!!). But from what I understand of other VP: Panhellenics at other schools, it's not as big of a position as it is at ours as far as work load. Does any of that make sense, or is it all just jumble?

KTDG 12-19-2002 02:01 AM

oh it makes total sense -- but we still couldnt even be directors -- they said we wouldnt understand how to do it

sailorchicDG 10-24-2003 02:30 PM

*BUMP*

I'm bumping this thread to see if anyone is running for CMT positions this year...

Once again I'm running for VP Social Standards. Hopefully this year I'll get it... Now I have two years of HB experience under my belt, so...

SonatinaDG 10-26-2003 12:10 AM

I'm running for Social Standards, Member Education, Junior and Member at Large for Honor Board, and House Manager. Hopefully I'll get one of them:cool: Good luck to everyone who's running, and Congratualtions to all the women who have gained a position. DO GOOD!:D
ITB,
Stephanie

Well Ladies,
The recommended slate was posted last night... And I got VP Social Standards!! Which is what I put as first choice. Yay! I'm very excited! Everyone congratulated me after chapter and showed support which really ment a lot (since last year I didn't get it when I ran for it). I love my sisters, and I can't wait till next term to start!!

AUDeltaGam 11-21-2003 01:02 AM

I was appointed as the Director of Social Awareness tonight! :D

DG515 11-24-2003 05:01 AM

Congrats Everyone!

You know how sometimes things happen at the right time for the right reason? Well, I think this is one of those times and reasons.....I'm current (although, technically now, one of the two current) VP Communications. This past year has been difficult and holding an office like this (esp one where I didn't feel like I was actually DOING anything important) was wearing me down and stressing me out........I told them I didn't want any VP positions, but if they needed me to take a director position, I WOULD, but i thought i'd do more for the chapter as just a member (saving my stress levels and for my health and sanity). Well, tonight, i was "nominated" for Dir of Rituals and the nominating commitee agreed I'd be good for it and appointed me that position. For once, I'm excited about the chapter. On my way into the building tonight, I was pretty sure that I was going to be leaving the chapter, i drug my feet to be with my sisters and meetings gave me headaches. I didn't see the love and the parts of Delta Gamma that I loved and that meant a lot to me. With elections tonight, and knowing who's going to be leading the chapter next year, I'm REALLY excited to see how it goes. And as far as being Dir of Rituals, I'm excited to know how I can help make being in the chapter mean as much as it used to and to install the awesomeness of what we are and what we do, into the new girls. The rituals for them this year kind of sucked, and i felt bad about that...not all of that was the directors fault, some of it was just the overall situation....anyways, I'm tired and I need to jet :-) I just wanted to let you guys know my good news!
OH YEAH!!! and my big sis is in town for the holiday and I haven't seen her in like 5 or 6 months, so I'm excited!

etahannah 11-25-2003 06:17 PM

well i got did get dir. of anchorsplash and i have known about that for some time. i am super excited about the position but i have so much to do.

the girl that was appointed dir of pr decided last night not hold the office and so i told nominating commitee that i would take both directorships if that was ok with them.

so now i am holding both offices and both offices apply directly to my major of public relations. its gonna be a tough semester balancing everything but i cant wait!!

congrats to everyone else who took an office!!

meridionaleDG 11-28-2003 08:06 PM

I was Director of E-Communications. Now I am Director of Scholarship and CPC Vice President of Administrative Affairs!
