Where did you meet your S.O.

I'm sick of being single and I started wondering where other people go to meet other singles.

So GCers, where/how did you meet your significant other?

The1calledTKE 10-22-2002 07:30 PM

At my fraternity house during homecoming. AGD and TKE were paired up that year.

amycat412 10-22-2002 07:32 PM

at a party, he was on a date with someone else. lol called me the next morning, we've been together ever since.

xok85xo 10-22-2002 07:37 PM

we met thru our parents..our mothers were good friends growing up (long story how he & i didn't end up meeting until a year and a half ago) but his parents actually met thru my mom & my uncle :)

greeklawgirl 10-22-2002 07:43 PM

I met my husband at a fraternity/sorority mixer. I don't remember meeting him, but he swears that he told a fraternity brother that he saw me across the proverbial crowded room and said, "That's the girl I'm going to marry." (I don't believe him for a minute, but its flattering anyway! ;))

We kept running into each other at events for a few weeks until he worked up the nerve to ask me out. We've been inseparable ever since. :)

Kevin 10-22-2002 07:47 PM

Met her hanging out at the fraternity house. She was a friend of one of our guys in the colony. About a year later we actually started going out.

Jadey28 10-22-2002 07:51 PM

I met him at work. Since we were both Greeks, we decided to set up a social with each other. That night, he followed me everywhere, and eventually kissed me. That was almost two years ago. I have been the happiest girl in the world ever since :D

AchtungBaby80 10-22-2002 08:03 PM

We were sitting next to each other on an airplane, believe it or not.

AOIIBrandi 10-22-2002 08:23 PM

At his fraternity house. I was a lil sis / rush hostess.

valkyrie 10-22-2002 08:29 PM

I met my guy at a cheesy sports bar in Forest Park, Illinois (and I have been to cheesy sports bars in Forest Park, Illinois exactly once).

The rest of the story is much more interesting...

ChiOJenn78 10-22-2002 09:01 PM

He was my ex's big brother in their fraternity ;) . Now that is a story.....

aephi alum 10-23-2002 08:31 AM

One of my sorority sisters introduced us back in my freshman year and tried to set us up a couple of times - it always fell through, but I placed him in the "friend of a friend" category.

Near the end of my junior year (after each of us had acquired our psycho ex's - I think it's a law that before meeting Mr./Ms. Right you must have at least one psycho ex) I ran into him at a party at his dorm. We started talking, swapped phone numbers, and the rest is history :)

dzrose93 10-23-2002 12:45 PM

We work together, but didn't really meet at the office because we're in different departments. Our "actual" meeting took place when mutual friends from work decided to start a co-ed softball team. We both signed up to play and then started talking after our first practice when we went out for pizza and drinks with the rest of the team.

Two days later, our mutual friends invited us over for dinner in an attempt to play matchmaker. It worked! We had a great time that night and have been together ever since. :D

PandaOnProzac 10-23-2002 01:22 PM

We met online actually in a sense. I'm on the recruitment committee for the band and I respond to emails of perspective members interested in joining. In the cookie cutter email during summer I included my AIM SN if they wanted any questions answered online. One day I got this IM from a marching snare player. She asked her questions and such. To be professional I only IMed her if she had a question. But then we started talking about other things besides band so I could drop the whole professional attitude. The thing about AIM is that in a sense you get pure thought but no emotions conveyed. Just from talking to her online she seemed like a cool person. Then once school started up we started to hang out. That's when both of started getting attracted to each other. The night I told her how I felt about her we went to karaoke with a bunch of friends. She didn't know it but I sang a few songs that were meant for her. Later that night/early early morning when I drove her back I told her how I felt. It's the best feeling in the world when someone tells you that you bring joy and happiness into their lives.

She's a really innocent girl but I like her cuz of that. She's a first year and I'm a second year but I don't think age matters. I think about her all the time but these next two weeks we decided that it's ok if we don't hang out as much becuz of midterms. I really hope this relationship works out cuz I've had two short ones last year with girls that I dunno why the hell I got with them in the first place.

She's also the first girl in a long time that I've felt motivated to get up in the morning just to get through the day to see her later.

DeltAlum 10-23-2002 02:43 PM

I met my wife in "Oral Intrepretation of Literature" class (Speech 34) in college. The class was terrible, but we've been married for 32 years.

I was dating an Alpha Gam pledge (among others) at the time, but compared to the future Mrs. DeltAlum, she just didn't have a chance.

AOX81 10-23-2002 03:27 PM

I met my hubby at his fraternity house. GO LAMBDA CHI ALPHA! :D

juniorgrrl 10-23-2002 03:35 PM

My guy and I met in a play the summer before 12th grade. However, our famlies had known each other for a very long time. I'm 7 months older than he is. When his mom got pregnant, my mom suggested her doctor. My mom had some prenatal vitamins left over, so she gave them to his mom. We say that we're so similar because of the vitamins.

There's a photo of us together as babies. But we never really "met" until 1997. We started dating at the beginning of our senior year of HS.

We've been together for over 5 years now - and I see wedding bells in our future :D

Rio_Kohitsuji 10-23-2002 07:45 PM

Me and Dustin met during our class change in the middle of campus. I was walking down the hill w/my long-lost-bud's now ex gf when we stopped to talk to the guys. Well, he was coming up the opposite way and the guys just thought to introduce us, hehe, and we shook hands wrong, lol :p I guess that caught eachother off guard :) And we've been together ever since :)

breathesgelatin 03-16-2003 11:48 PM

He saw me at a party at his house and thought I was cute and got some sisters to introduce us... My roomie dates one of his brothers and she set us up for homecoming... We had an awesome weekend and decided to see what would happen. :D

KSigkid 03-17-2003 12:09 AM

My girlfriend and I had been friends for about a year and a half before we started going out. We were really good friends, and just sort of ended up getting together.

OUlioness01 03-17-2003 12:09 AM

because of unavoidable circumstances and George W Bush we're currently not together, but we met the first day of band camp going into our sophomore year of high school....and we weren't interested in each other at all until 4 years later.

AGDPrincess70 03-17-2003 12:25 AM

My S.O is my fraternity big brother! Brian and I met randomly one day and I asked him to be my big. As we started hanging out more and more, we started to like each other. So we started dating.

Then Black Wednesday happened.

I had just gotten out of a two year relationship, and my ex came back one day, and needless to say, Brian *ahem* found out, so to speak.

We didn't speak for months. The only time her uttered any words to me was when he kicked me out of his fraternity house when I was hanging out over there. But randomly, I heard from his best friend (who was dating one of my sisters) that he wanted to get back together. So one night, we talked things out, and have been happy together for almost six months.

And tonight I met his parents. :D

AXJules 03-17-2003 12:39 AM

Well, my sisters and I always went to GDI parties here, because they were good trashy fun. BYOB, no carding, in a barn, yeah good times.
Anyway, my BF was there with his friends, and one of them came up to me and said he'd pay me a dollar if I danced with his friend. I was like, "I don't want your $$$, but if he wants to dance with me he can ask me himself."
The guy called me a bitch and walked away.
A minute later, his adorable friend tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to dance. We've been together ever since.

Since he's not Greek, my BF and I always joke that our relationship is built on a lie because GDI parties are for non Greeks, and he met me there. :D

texas*princess 03-17-2003 01:07 AM

I met my boyfriend @ high school band practice the summer before my sophomore year in high school!

XOMichelle 03-17-2003 01:14 AM

I don't have a S.O. :(

I have a boyfriend, but he's just a boyfriend. As cool as he is, I doubt he'll be significant in any way besides in my memory. Is that sad? Should I dump him becaue I think that?

-Michelle
ps- we met at a mutual friend's birthday party. My ex boyfriend and I met in a garden in the middle of campus on a beautiful spring day. It was too much.

chideltjen 03-17-2003 01:56 AM

i don't have an S.O either Michelle... don't worry.

But the guy I had a date with this weekend lived in the dorms with me freshman year but was in a long term thing and had to transfer dorms because his roomie was psycho. we never really talked except exchanging hellos on the way to the shower. but we met up again at a mixer and I gave him my number. he's pretty cool. friends at least.

AlphaSigLana 03-17-2003 02:21 AM

I don't have a bf anymore:( , but I first met him when I was 12 and had moved into my neighborhood. He was friendswith my neighbor's son. We even were bf/gf for a summer before 7th grade. I really like Bubbaliscious gum so he would always buy it for me, then he dumped me. I didn't see him until the last week of Dec. 2002--so it had been 9 years and then he came to the New Years Party and he that was how we got together. But then he dumped me (should have seen that coming i guess).

DeltAlum 03-17-2003 11:55 AM

Met my wife in a speech class in college. About half of my pledge class and several actives were also in the class. I figured I'd better ask her out before one of the other guys did.

We've been married for almost 33 years.

AlphaSigLana 03-17-2003 12:51 PM

DeltAlum-you already answered this question :)
What I want to know is how many people that posted that they had an S.O. are still with that person? I noticed some people posted in Oct.

Sorry, you're right. I think there have been a few other posts asking essentially the same question.

Get's confusing.

Especially for us older folks.

Hmmm.....

ladyj39 03-17-2003 01:37 PM

We met three years ago today!

My boyfriend and I were introduced by his friend at a bar on St. Patrick's Day three years ago. I was actually "seeing" his friend, but that wasn't serious. We all went out a couple of weeks later and his friend was supposed to meet up with us. Well, he was late, Paul and I started talking, and we have been together ever since! The three of us are all still friends! :)

deltaphi94 03-19-2003 12:39 AM

I met my husband online. He asked me out, and I wasn't going to say yes, but my mom talked me into it. I'll bet she regrets that now...lol.

LaDolceVita03 03-19-2003 01:22 AM

We were set up:rolleyes: on a blind date by mutual friends. Our first date we went to dinner and barely said 3 words to each other the entire time and didn't talk anymore after that night. That was 3 years ago. A few months after that first "date", we saw each other at a club, finally talked, and ended up dancing together the whole night. We finally exchanged numbers and have been together ever since--it'll be two and a half years in July.:D

Still with him :D Starting to talk about the more serious things that occur in a relationship too! And I am still as happy as I was the day we decided we were going to be together. I think he might be the person that I was meant to be with ;)

Jadey

greeklawgirl 03-19-2003 12:07 PM

Yep, yep, yep. Still together. Married for 3 years in August. Together for 8 years in October. Life is good.

ToBeSororityGrl 03-19-2003 12:18 PM

Amycat - that was so cute!

I met my SO at work. I was transferred after a month and only remembered that he was so cute, and when I came back after 4 months, he was still there and we'd talk about the school newspaper together during breaks. We started to hang out a lot and then one night I asked him "can I call you mine?" and he said yes and we've been together for 3 years now!

Nikki_DZ 03-19-2003 01:10 PM

I met the SO at a total white-trash/redneck bar. LOL. We keep claiming that we're going change the story b/c it's embarassing to admit that to anyone who knows this area.

We had a mutual friend who kept telling me that I had to meet him, so she decided to invite us both to karaoke one night. When she called him to invite him, he asked who would be there, and she told him it would be her, her then bf (my best friend), another friend, and me. His first question was whether or not I was hot-lol. When I showed up, I guess I passed inspection b/c he pulled me a chair up beside him. By the end of the night he was playing with my hair and hugged me three times before I left. The next night we talked online for about 2 hours, then on the phone for another 4 hours. Two days later we decided we were exclusive.

Eights months later (July was a good month, Amy :)) we live together and have incurred enough mutual debt that we're stuck together for a long time ;) Seriously, we're discussing getting married next January in Vegas :D :D :D

Ginger 03-19-2003 02:03 PM

July WAS a good month :)

I first met Alan when I was a sophomore in college (1998). I worked in the computer lab, and he would come in and talk to me and flirt with me. I had a serious boyfriend at the time and didn't even realize he was interested in me as anything more than a friend.

Then, last March (2002), we were both back in our college town, and were re-introduced by a mutual friend. I was there on a date with another guy, so we pretty much just said hi, and found out that we were both living in Milwaukee now.

A few weeks later, he calls me... our mutual friend had given him my phone number... we started hanging out together, doing things from time to time... I was skittish because I'd just had a VERY BAD thing happen to me relationship-wise (what do you mean you've been married for 3 years?) so even though he wanted more, I kept it on a very low-key, just-barely-dating level... but as the months went by I realized I liked him a lot more than that, and I shouldn't let my experience with married-boy wreck things with Alan.

July 5th, I suprised him by asking him if I could call him my boyfriend and we could be exclusive :)

November 1st, I moved in with him :)

And we are hopefully getting engaged this summer :D

juniorgrrl 03-19-2003 02:58 PM

My boy and I are still together. We've looked at rings, I've picked out what I want, and we're tenatively thinking next summer for the big event.

He's hinting that he's going to propose soon...so, we'll see. I keep trying to psych him out and have him give me a hint, but no luck!
