Is your state the smartest?
|
All things considered I feel Texas did rather well.

And yay, Wisconsin is sixth! I'm not too surprised, though; we have a great public school system here. |
To quote Lewis Black:
"Five years ago Alabama was 47th. And the people of Alabama were so upset they sued the state. That means the people of Alabama.........sued themselves..........." |
Gotta love Alabama, two years ago a good friend of mine moved there from Illinois, he hates it, and tells me all about the *wonderful* people he has met...
My friend told me about that sue thingy... he also said something about how the state is so poor, or something about the school system and how it's so deep in debt, and someting with the governor and schools and money. I guess they turned down federal funding to improve schools because they would then have to comply with federal education standards... huh, that's just a shame, complying with federal standards, and the governor responded with "No one is going to tell Alabama how to run school's!" I guess he was too busy advocating prayer in schools or something to that affect. I was suprised to see Illinois so low on the list, I live in IL, but go to school in IA, and I never in a million years thought Iowans were smarter than we were... you should see how they drive. :D |
nebraska is in the top 20!!!! we rule!!!!!!!!! :)
|
Woohoo!!
Am I wrong, or is Texas the highest ranked state in the South? That's fine by me!! Kitso KS 361 million dollars you'd have to pay me for me to leave the great state of Texas |
This doesn't include private schools. Some schools in New York are among the best in the country.
|
Michigan is ranked #20 and Ohio is ranked #41. Does that mean that Michiganders are twice as smart as residents of Ohio? lol
|
hmmm... the top 15 are all in the "northern" half of the US and the bottom 4 are all in the "southern" half of the US.... interesting ;)
If this doesn't include private schools - well then I don't even count for Illinois - I went to private school from 1st-12th grade - and i recieved an A+ education ;) I do however, get my higher education from a public school - Iowa, which is doing quite nicely at 11 :D |
Michigan is #20. That's really good, but I'm actually suprised it's not higher.
(Oh come on, W. should have dragged Texas at least out of the top 20 ;)) |
LA is 49th. Not surprising. Most of the state's public schools are terrible. There are quite a few excellent private schools.
One good thing about living here is, its easy to be smart :D A bad thing is I have to deal with the people who put us #49 on a daily basis.  |
Florida #47! Actually I'm not that surprised.
|
37 for VA.
|
Connecticut is #1!!! :D  :D
Unfortunately I went to school in New York... but Cream is right, there are some excellent private schools in NY, plus some top-rated public school districts, especially on Long Island and in Westchester, and the NYC magnet schools. |
#32 smartest but #46 in teacher pay... How's that for making the dollar stretch?

yahooo!!!!!!!!!!! New Jersey is #4 !! That's where I got my education... however I now go to college in South Carolina [36]... go figure:rolleyes:
|
Go MA! Number 7!
I went to one of the better public school systems (according to test scores, drop out rate, percentage of grads going on to 4 year colleges and other factors) in the number 7 state in the nation and I still think my education was pretty crappy. I would hate to have attended a school in one of the lower tier states. It really says alot about our nation's public schools. |
Woohoo Go Texas! In the top 20 and the highest in the South!
|
Don't I feel like a dumb@ss. <---Ohio #41
|
Kentucky would be a lot better if we could count only from Lexington west. For God sakes those people in eastern kentucky don't even wear shoes much less read.
|
Georgia is 40. Thats real encouraging for a future Georgia teacher.

Aparently bathing was a huge issue back in the day. It was the only way to get clean after sleeping with your sister.
|
How DARE Maryland be number 30. 30????!?!?!?! That is entirely too low. I'd say top 10-15.

yeah..i was actually pretty surprised that NJ was ranked #4..take that all you jersey dissers.. but you know..you have to admit that some parts of jersey are kinda stinky..however..very strange, but i swear when you drive on the parkway around the elmwood park/rt 80 exit (right before the bergen county toll plaza) it smells like butterscotch..how bizarre is that |
yeah i was definitely surprised about the #4!! But yay anyway. Oh I know there are some terrible/stinky parts of Jersey. have you driven to Newark AirPort on route 22? It's about 20min outside my town. I live in a nice, little, colonial town.... oh have any of y'all ever seen the tv show "Ed" in stuckeyville... the bowling alley one? WELL... the opening credits are my hometown. The big white church, the downtown.. etc.. all mine!! That's my claim to fame. It;s cool to watch it.. makes me homesick. NBC wednesday nights @ 8!! :D
anyway. have a great day everyone |
PA is #15!!! That has to mean I'm smart b/c I went to public school and a state university ;)
|
Indiana in the top ten? How'd that happen? :p J/K.. We're cornfed and raised right.
|
Mississppi....#48.....how depressing.
Of course, I've known my entire life how crappy the South's education is. I spent 13 years getting a very mediocre education and now I'm working my tail off at a private college in Alabama. I'm doing good now, but I wish I would have had better opportunities to prove myself than in our poor pubilc school system. Oh well, I'll still get my doctorate eventaully :D Colleen |
West Virginia is #18!
Thats whare I's gots all my edjukashun, and now I is a collage grajuit! :p
