Homecoming Floats...

I just wanted to let y'all know that homecoming was this past weekend at Clemson... and Lambda Chi won first place in the float competition!! It was an awesome float. The theme this year was "Paws and Stripes" so they had a semi-circle of the letters (about 10ft high each) with different patterns in them. The patterns included: flag, army/navy symbols, tiger eye, clemson paw... hmm i can't remember the rest. Then in the middle was a tank that was going over some rocks, then on top of the letters was a banner that said Paws and Stripes.. it was awesome!!

If y'all want I'll post a picture as soon as I get one!!

Just wanted to let y'all know how great these guys are here at Clemson!!

Corbin Dallas 10-21-2002 10:45 AM

i'd love to see a picture. i wish we had a homecoming parade at my school.

axotiger 10-21-2002 12:31 PM

Actually, it's not a parade, we have a parade for First Friday (the day before our first game) where the sororities makes floats that are on the back of trailer things... and we all walk.
But for homecoming, they (the school) puts big posts in the ground (as supporters) on our main field that you see when you get to campus. (totally messes up the field) so all the fraternities are lined up. And we spend all week making them (the girls help and bring out food/drinks to the guys). They got 2nd last year, but first the few years before that. They ALWAYS do good. It's awesome.

I am trying to find the good pictures of the float from last year, the only one I can find at the moment is my brother (lambda chi) and myself in one of the cages -- it was a circus theme -- here goes:

AXOTiger, would love to see pictures!!!!!

What is the meaning of the LXA at the bottom with your signature?

Thanks for the kind words on Our Brothers there!

Pat_BN557 10-22-2002 04:56 AM

I think it says

CFLLSGS isn't CFMPLSTS without GFING GRSSK!

College isn't complete without going greek!

Pat

Corbin Dallas 10-22-2002 09:35 AM

I think Tom was meaning the LXA CS at the bottom. Before, she had LXA Crescent Sister, and must have shortened it. I assume it's like the crescents that IHQ had before, but this is just a chapter thing, little sisters.

axotiger 10-22-2002 09:49 AM

Yeah, Corbin's right... it means Crescent Sister. I HAD "LCA - Crescent Sister " written before, then someone was like they got rid of them a long time ago. So I was like, uh...ok... and just put CS. It's just a chapter thing though. But if y'all are offeneded/mad that I have that written there, I can always take it down! ;)

I'll have more pictures shortly!! Don't worry. My parents have a digital camera (at home) and have sent me some pictures from this past weekend... so I'll get the rest soon though!
:D

After waking up on the floor of course

:D

I am not worried in the least. As long as we have beautiful women promoting LXA, we'll continue to be fine. ;) You keep it up there, and do so with pride.

Tom Earp 10-22-2002 07:22 PM

Dont worry abit about any offense from us!!!!! I totally agree with Lifesaver on that count!

Jason, damn good thing I was not with you or we both would have been fighting for floor space!:)

EM1843 10-22-2002 11:17 PM

I'm kinda pissed that nationals felt they had to do away with the Order of the Crescent. It has a great history here at our chapter, as I'm sure it does else where. Oh well...just one more thing about INT that bothers me...

I was very proud when some of my brothers (contemporaries) at Beta Nu devoted themselves to researching history, heraldry, and even mythology to write an excellent initiation ceremony for our Crescents. Let me tell you something - it was First Class all the way!

We were proud of it and so were the Crescents. Then the year after I graduated, Nat'l came down and confiscated every copy of that ritual. (Well...almost :-)

What they did was destroy the concept of that organization and to this day I don't understand what they were afraid of. I'll tell you, it wasn't just the girls who shed a tear. The brothers were equally devastated.

But all this came about right after the architects had left school and all that remained were a bunch of wimps and weasles who knuckled under without a word.

LONG LIVE THE CRESCENTS!

I'm glad there are some still out there. We still Love You and want you back!

:( Aw man, JonoBN41, that's terrible! ... I LOVE being a Crescent sister, I have a little and a big brother. My big brother used to room with my real blood brother... so that's how I got to know him... he's also a cheerleader at school (and a cutie too... but then again, y'all all are!!). And I am getting ANOTHER little brother this semester, I'm really excited. There are 14 AMs left... and I've got my heart set on about 2!! Anywayz, I better get back to work here (I'm co-op ing... sitting in a cubicle programming... think Office Space, the movie).. BORING. I actually sorta miss taking classes! But I'll be back next semester.

Enough of my rambling.. have a GREAT day fellas!!!

AXO-Stevie, I agree With Brother Jono. He and I talked about it at the BN 30 th Anniverssary.

It is my understanding that LXA is a Male Org. and it was looking like it might become a He/She Org.

All I have to say Is BS!

It was a decision made and Headquarters , but the members felt that it helped cement relationships with Soroitys and women in general! Letting the other side know what we were like, not what we did in Ritual as it were!

I for one and many of my Brothers Thank you for what you said and how you feel. It is good to know that My Brothers are respected around the Fraternity!:)

re: Banning Crescents

I was an active member when LXA banned Lil' sister organizations
nationally (or at least really began enforcing it)....it was due to a
lawsuit, of course.

The Jaycee's (Junior Chamber of Commerce) organization
(an all male national organization at the time) used
to have a women's auxilary called the Jaycettes...in the mid to
late 80's, some Jaycettes sued the Jaycees for treating women
as second class citizens.

The girls participated, worked, supported, etc. the organization
every bit as much as the guys, but were not allowed membership,
voting rights, or the ability to hold office in the Jaycees.

The U.S. Supreme Court finally decided that this was
discrimination against women (treating them as second-class
members), since they participated as fully as the guys, but
had no "say" in the Jaycee's activities. The SC. ordered the
Jaycees to go co-ed. All-male organizations may exist, but
they may not treat "participating" women as second-class.

LXA, and as I recall, many/most national fraternities, ordered
their chapters to disband aux. women's organizations (Lil
sister clubs) for fear a Crescent Girl somewhere would bring
a similar suit against LXA, and with the precedent set by
the Supreme Court, force LXA to go co-ed.

I remember our Phi Kappa Tau chapter received a letter from
their National office telling them they had 2 weeks to disband
their Lil Sis group, or risk losing their charter (they had
ignored previous orders, if I remember correctly)

The late 80's were a "lawsuit-happy" time in our country.

In fact, alot of the "silly rules" the fraternity has are due
to lawsuits....ever heard about why LXA nationals bans
"open parties"??? (ie. can't put signs up on campus that
invite the whole campus to an event).

lenoxxx 10-25-2002 03:51 AM

I disagree with both of your points in tha5t they are rooted in flawed legal thinking. Sister organizations for our greek orgs makes us ecxtremely vulnerable to discrimination lawsuits that plague orgs like the elks and boy scouts. By keeping these groups out and sororities being a separate but equal item on the docket we seem serious about keeping our single sex status.

Sometimes you guys need to think outside that 1960's/1970's box

re: Lenoxx

My post must have been misleading...I AGREE with and
SUPPORT what the National organization has done reguarding
Lil Sis organizations....I guess I just tried to explain it in
a way to be sympathetic to those with opposite views....
ie. the use of the phrase "silly rules"....I agree with the
"silly rules" that fall in this category!

Just a clarification.

JonoBN41 10-25-2002 08:52 PM

The trend lately has been for courts to throw out 'frivilous' lawsuits of this nature. Hopefully it is in the past when both the brothers of a fraternity and their auxilliary little sisters can be torn apart because of one individual bent on 'making a statement'. But that didn't even happen.

It was the fear of it. We tore ourselves apart before they could get their grubby hands on us, which amounts to self-destruction.

It's even sadder to still see today the potential victims supporting the views of some unknown enemy. In my mind, that's morally wrong because it goes against everything they know is right and mutually benficial.

You know what's interesting about lawyers? Ninety-nine percent of them give the rest a bad name. That's a sick joke. What's even more disturbing is how many of us have bought into the BS and take it for gospel. It's not gospel or even current thinking.

It's time we all (male and female) reach down and see what we've got! I think you know what I mean.

Jono

Tom Earp 10-26-2002 08:43 PM

What, this has gone from floats to Cresents.

Good pix of the float, outstanding!

Jono is right on about this and nothing was ever explained to anyone, it just ended by edict.

What a damn shame as the ladies could be such a help and vice versa!

While we never had a Lil Sis group, We had our Cresent Girl that ran in a contest and had their Pictures in the School Albumn.:)

cool float, no marines though? :) i'm a little biased, since that's who i work for. having a cutie little sis in the pictures more than makes up for it though :D

Hey guys, glad you liked the pictures! :D If I ever get more, I'll post them. Hope everyone had a great weekend!!
