The Ring
This movie was SO creepy. I just got back from seeing it, and now I cannot sleep.

I FINALLY saw the movie tonight. I'm still trying to make sense of about 10% of it, for example, if that girl in the well died then who was that in the psychiatric hospital?

The well part came after [I'm assuming] she got out. |
Cool movie.
I know a girl that had her Cell phone ring just as the movie faded to black . . freaked her out. |
Ok that makes sense.
Yeah! Watching a movie about people dying after viewing a videotape that WE also viewed, is more scarier than what happened in the movie itself. After the movie ended, we were all staring at our cell phones. |
The original was crap and so was the remake.

Also, I saw it twice. At the VERY beginning of the movie before they do the little thingee for the production company the screen kinda goes fuzzy and a split second shot comes on of the Ring. I didn't notice it the first time, but I caught it the second. Almost subliminal. Speaking of, I have an idea for a thread... |
I thought it was okay. Although I'd like to know who actually *made* the video in the first place?
While I was home for Thanksgiving my brother-in-law asked if I thought it was a good movie. My step-sister was like "NO!! Don't see it!". Then she proceeded to tell me that the morning after she saw it she turned off the TV and walked into the other room, and the TV came back on. So for the next week she was totally creeped out. |
Can I just tell yall how completely FREAKED OUT I am right now? I went to see this tonight w/my best guy friend and I think I just about broke his hand from holding on to it so tightly! This movie is scary scary scary....it just messes with your mind! But I really liked it, I just don't know if I could ever handle watching it again!

I SAW THAT TOO!!! I thought I was just being paranoid, but maybe not!!! YIKES!!!! |
|
I talked to one of the managers of the movie theatre and we agreed on a plan for next weekend!
He is going to put a bunch of employees in the Theatre that holds the ring and have them all get phone calls as the movie fades to black . . . IT will be fun because they will be spread out in the theatre . . . |
i saw this movie last night while on a blind date.
was it supposed to be scary? i thought it sucked. the beginning was great--i was excited. but by the middle it started to not make any sense. there were too many loose ends that needed explaining. at least i didn't actually pay to see it |
LOL. You made the boy pay? How Anti-Women's lib.
Hope you at least made out with him lol. Quote:

I haven't seen this movie yet. Should I bother seeing it?

I KNOW this movie has a parallel story to it, but I can't figure it out. There were to many things that went unexplained in the movie, I don't think it's just "loose ends" or holes in the plot. For example the following went unanswered for me: *The little boy drawing Katie in the in the bathtub, BEFORE she died *Who was standing on top of the staircase at Katie's house *Intestines coming out of that guys mouth (symbolism) *The flies (symbolism) *The lighthouse (symbolism) *The relation of the horses, besides the plague. *The chopped fingers (synbolism) *WHO filmed that tape *The blurring of the pics (symbolism) *The tree (sybolism) *The nosebleeds (symbolism) *The red sunset (symbolism) NOTE: I did miss a little part of the movie. My opinion, the parallel storyline and sybolism had to do either with sex/infertility or threats to Japanese culture. |
This year's Hawaii Film Festival included a Japanese film entitled "Dark Water"...based on the novel by Suzuki Koji, the same author of "The Ring."
I noticed that, of all the similarities between the two, the two strongest were the heavy rain and the fact that there was a little girl in both movies. The little girls also looked similar and were responsible for the torment in the film. I don't think that the film had anything to do with a threat to Japanese culture. Producers used to novel to basically come up with their own version of the story. The novel itself is different from the film, and hopefully they'll get an English translation of the novel out soon. Maybe my Nihongo's not as good as I thought it was, but the novel was VERY different from the movie! |
I didnt think the movie was that scary while I was watching it. Like, things would happen and people would start screaming, and i'd be like "what the heck? calm down people!"
but..... that night and the night after.... i had problems sleeping because of the movie! I had to ask my brother to come sleep with me! |

I think it was Becca, her friend. The little boy drew the pictures was Katie's cousin. She told him that she was going to die. Intestines I think just because he needed to die somehow. Flies- She caught a live fly when she thought it was on the tape. I think it means that it was just a normal tape, that it could affect the living. The lighthouse tipped off the reporter as to where the horse farm was. It was the location of the island. Horese..it was said animals can pick up on stuff. I don't remember the chopped fingers. No one filmed the tape. It was a projection of Samara's mind, just like the pictures that appered in the psych ward and the tree that was burned into her room in the hay loft. The tree marked the spot near the well, so that someone could find her. Nosebleeds= Maybe just to indentify those who have seen the tape. The blurring of the pics means they will die soon, like they are being erased, because Samara's parents wanted her erased. The red sunset I think, maybe cuz stuffed was burned (the hand prints, the tree in the barn, the pictures, etc) plus it helped Indentify the tree. Hoped that helped. One of the better movies I've seen in a while. |
Okay, old thread, I know. But I just came back from seeing it (with my whole pledge class!) and I know there's not a chance I'm going to sleep tonight. It was SOOO scary! And being the biggest wuss in the world doesn't help. Of course all of my roommates are gone tonight - which I guess is good, because I have every light in the apartment on :p
|
I just saw the movie tonight. I'm confused as all hell as to what exactly transpired.
First: So, the girl was in the mental hospital....earily looked like the friend of the cousin that went into the hospital. Second: So why was Rachel and the boy saved and the father not? Third: If she wasn't meant to be resurrected from the well then why did "she" lead them there? Fourth: What was with the ending where Rachel see's the woman getting onto the elevator to go upstairs where the father is now dead? Is that woman supposed to represent Samara? Fifth: I thought the mom ended up in the mental hospital...so when did Samara end up there and how come she was let out then? |
Second: So why was Rachel and the boy saved and the father not?
Because Rachel and the boy made a copy of the tape and the father didn't - Samara wanted to be heard, so the only way people survive is if they make sure she is. Talk about cruelty - My roommate is on a date with a guy now watching the Ring at his house, For when she comes in, I have a blank tape marked "COPY" sitting on the TV and on the TV is static because I've got it on a channel we don't get. Ain't I fun! ;) She won't ever forgive me for this... Crystal |
MTSUGirl, that is crazy!
Did she see it when she came in? :p |
I can't even read this thread for fear of ruining the ending but the movie is on the top of my Netflix list so I'll see it soon. I'm so excited -- I love scary movies!

Hey, I saw it in October, and I still wake up in the middle of the night and get freaked out by my TV!!!
|
I got the dvd last night!!

You know, when I first heard of it, I thought, "That looks stupid! A video tape that kills people? They must be running out of ideas." But then I saw it... and WOW!!! I jumped about 20 times, and was scarred to go to sleep that night... and as I said in an earlier entry, I saw it back in October, and I still get freaked out by my TV if I wake up in the middle of the night.
|
My roommate freaked out big time when she came in last night. Not at the TV though - I had downloaded pictures off the movie website and set them as the desk top to her computer. Then I stayed in my room to hear her reaction. She screamed bloody murder!
We watched it again tonight, and let me tell you, it doesn't get any less freaky!!! Crystal |
Saw it again tonight....Freaky!!!!
It was the 4th time I've seen it, but it was still freaky!!! |
I just saw this movie...was very freaked out...but I have to purchase it tomorrow just to check out the parts on the DVD labeled "Don't look here" and something else (you know, the extra features of the DVD). I will probably freak myself out even more, but that's me!
|
I saw this at a friend's house Friday night and it was very scary, but also really weird enough to where it didn't freak me out.

Ok, just watched it again tonight to see if it was as scary since i knew the ending... Yes, still freaked me out (can't watch the part where they show Katie or Noah after they die, or the part where Samara comes out of the screen), but not so freaky afterwards. I made my roomate/little sis watch it with me, even though she's seen it before and hates it... i think we're sleeping with the lights on and in the same bed tonight... still freaks me out.
There are a few loose ends in it, yes. But I'm sure it makes sense somehow. I saw at the video store today, right next to the DVD, another movie called "Ringu" and it said it was the original to "the ring." so i have no idea, and no intention, of finding that out! |
Ringu is the original version, which happens to be an Asian film, I think. We saw bits and pieces of it during the "Don't look here" which I really didn't watch.
