big/lil
 

i have to pref my top 5 sophomores for bigs tonight... big/lil isnt till the 24th but i am already super excited... my problem is that there are 3 girls that i LOVE to death and i cant differenciate between them... i want to put them 1, 1, and 1 and then have a 4 and 5... yikes! super nervous.. tonight is also our "pledge class retreat" which means the girls who dont live in are spending the night tonight and we are all bonding.. yeah!

well, i did it.. i preffed for bigs.. i think that was almost more stressful that preffing houses.. (specially since all i had was chi o during rush anyways... only way for me in the long run)

i did put 3 girls as my number 1 choice and would be thrilled to have any of them calling me little! big/lil week starts next week i think on sunday... we have

one letter each day with a clue and then thurs. oct 24th we find out who our big is! horray

Don't worry, it will all work out. I didn't end up getting the girl I put #1, I got my #2. She was great and fun, but we never bonded like crazy. BUT, the girl I put as my #1 ended up being a great friend of mine and truly more of a "big sis". And funny enough, the same could be said for the girl who got my #1 choice, she had a tighter relationship with my Big! Geesh, did any of that make any sense?! My point is! Don't worry about it! You have lots of sisters to go to for support, so if your big sis isn't the "perfect match" you'll be fine. Have fun though, and tell us all about it!!!!

What Kathy said is so true. No matter who you get, it'll be a very positive experience. I believe that God puts people in our life for a reason, and with ChiO, we have sooo many great opportunities to be surrounded by loving and supportive sisters.

I remember preffing big sister! I didn't get any of my top three, which was weird cuz the girl I put second put me first...but oh well.
It doesn't really matter because you'll find someone that you form a close bond with and I ended up with a surrogate big sis (LOL). I did, however, get my first choice for little sister! I was very happy with that! I don't get to see her a lot...but it's all good!

I absolutely LOVE big/lil week! We do it the same way here with the C-H-I-O. I loved getting gifts when I was getting my big sis, but I almost love getting a little even more--it is so EXCITING! :D

I got my second little this semester and I swear she is just the sweetest thing! During big/lil week, before she knew I was her big sister, she called to wish me a happy 2 and a half year anniversary with my fiance'--it was the cutest thing ever :)

I adore my first little sister too though--she is such a gem! We're having a hard time finding a good spot in our schedules for a family outing, but it's sure to be a blast! :)

I hope this all goes to show that we older gals are just as excited about new members joining as the nm's are!! I'm super glad your time with Chi O is only getting better and I wish you many more happy memories as you get to know your sisters!

I JUST GOT MY FIRST LITTLE!!!!!!!!!! We don't have reavealing until Friday night though. She's already being spoiled rotten. Does anyone have any cute and quick things that I can make for her to give on revealing.????:confused:

tonight is big/lil night but my big is going to be gone so i dont get to do big/lil till monday night.. its all okay with me tho.. i am pretty sure that i know who my big is and i am glad that she is going where she is going...

chi o week was super fun... her first hint kinda gave her away, also with the fact that her handwriting is distictly hers...

i always loved giving the really vague clues such as "i live in the house" or "i'm older than you but younger than miss jo(housemom)"

i also almost always got someone else to write at least 2 of my notes..i'd usually write one w/my left hand too

it was so fun messing w/my littles..none of them ever knewit was me :)

This week has been so fun. I just dont' want it to end. Our new girlies are so clueless. I call them all little!!!!

Big/Lil week was a total blast. The sisters just had so much fun torturing us. I actually have a twin!! It was so neat because a sister just sent out some random e-mail about going to a movie and my soon to be twin was there with my gift and that is when we figured out we were twins. We had our own little fun because in true twin spirit we wore matching outfits to revealing. That was fun.

Hi everyone..this is actually my first post, I just joined your site, and I'm a new member of Chi O..this week is Big/Lil week for us right now, and it's super exciting, although all I want is to know who my big is!!

In our group the sisters are allowed to purposely trick us and write crazy clues to totally throw us off..today one of my pledge sisters got a note with bulleted clues. The first mentioned her boyfriend, the second said she was single, stuff like that. Well, a lot of girls are telling us that some of us (there's 28 in our pledge class!) are triplets..meaning that one sister took THREE girls in our pledge class. Has anyone ever heard of this? Or are they tricking us again? I really can't tell! Would love to hear what you guys think! Thank you!!! :D

That's about the size of my pledge class when I joined. We had so much fun. I loved the Owl Pal system and getting to know the actives...they really made a point to get to know us and take us out. That's key in making sure your new members are happy and don't want to drop out for any reasons (not that you would, but you know what i mean).

Still unsure about the CRAZINESS of this week! Our sisters have been doing something similar to your version of C-H-I-O; The first day we all got a giant poster covered with clues about our big sister. The second day we got carnations (I got a whole bouquet!) and a gigantic Hershey's Symphony Candy bar, with more clues. The third day we got a stuffed owl and more clues, and today we got one of their Chi Omega shirts (not letters) and our last set of clues! Tomorrow night is the revealing..I'm SOOO excited. Although, I have NO clue who my big might be. I've narrowed it down to, say, 50 sisters. ;) I don't even have any in mind I want, they're all so awesome! So, here's to hoping that tomorrow night (Halloween also!) comes soon! :D

There was no such thing as a single sister taking triplets in our pledge class. A lot of girls tried to be optimistic about it, but I think all of us liked the idea of having our own big sister! The revealing was so much fun, and the big sister that I got took me completely by surprise! She had actually been at the top of my list, but all my clues so logically pointed to someone else, I forgot about how they try to trick us! We went out with our Family (who I still haven't figured out *quite* what they are, since my grandbig has graduated) and had a really great time in DC, even though the club we tried to go to got shut down. So I'm really excited about this semester, and LOVE my big! :D

Congratulations on getting your Big Sister! I'm glad she was one of your top choices! That always make it nice!

I had a hard time figuring out the family thing too at first - especially when my Grand Big had two littles and then there were branch-offs! But I love my family! They're lots of fun!

What a fun picture! I kinda wish our family were as big as some of the others. My real family has 6 kids so I'm used to lots of people! But I think the answer to that will just be for me to take a little next Spring. ;)

I remember meeting my big during rush. We just hit it off, and after I became a pledge, we just started hanging out. WE had a pretty big family. I took twins as my lils. My big and I are still the best of friends, and we've been graduated for 2 years now.

For those of our Alum sisters, does your chapter have reunions and have you went to one? (And for you collegiates, feel free to answer if your chapter holds reunions!! My chapter is fairly young still, so we haven't had an 'official' reunion yet)

I think it'd be fun to have a family reunion. I actually just emailed my grandbig last night...I haven't seen or talked to her since before I moved to Texas :eek: She mass emailed everyone about her change of address...so at least I know she still thinks of me ;)

i remember getting my big sis!! all of us new members were trying to figure out who our big was, but i kept asking all the actives if they knew who mine was. of course they wouldnt tell me and they all kept telling us that they couldnt have a little that semester for some reason. they all did a pretty good job cause i didnt know until reveal who mine was!! my big ended up being my first choice, but the clues she gave me described almost all of my choices the first 2 days and then the last day i narrowed it down to 2 girls. me and my big totally bonded and are as close as can be!! were 2000 miles away from each other now, but shes still the first person i call when anything happens and we talk at least 3 times a week just to keep each other updated on how were doing and whats going on in our lives. congrats to all the new baby owls who just got bigs!!!

I posted a couple of posts up about how excited I was about getting my big sister...but now I was hoping for a little bit of advice.

It's been like three weeks since big sister revealing, and I haven't seen my big once since then. She doesn't have a cell phone, and is never online on AIM. I e-mailed her the week after big sister revealing, and still haven't gotten responses. So after listening to all my pledge sisters talk about all the amazing things they're doing with their bigs, I'm starting to feel a bit left out. A couple of days ago I put a sign I made for her on my computer in her file in our file room, and haven't heard back about that either. Well, today I was sitting with a bunch of my pledge sisters and regular sisters at a table on campus, and she walked up, and said hi to a couple of people before me, and then said that she was doing an exchange to Malta next semester??? :confused: I'm starting to feel like she got me just because I put her at the top of my list, and maybe she didn't want me? And if she's really going to Malta, she'll miss my initiation, which is next semester (We do a LONG pledge process). Also, someone suggested to me that since she's the only other person in our family, she was obligated to take a little so her family didn't die out. :( I feel weird talking to my G.M., just because she was my first choice, and I don't really want to complain. Just not sure what to do. :( Has anyone been in this situation? Would love to hear, or get some advice...Thanks guys.

While I think it's a little sad that you aren't getting attention from her, I don't think you should worry about it too much. I had a big that seemed extremely excited about getting me, and was perfectly nice to me, but never "connected" with me. I just pursued relationships with other active sisters and connected extremely well with many of them. I have about 3 women who were in my big's pledge class that acted as bigs for me when it came to me needing a sister to turn to.

The same can be said for my little. While I definitely made sure to be a "better" big, she and I were good friends, but I did became more of a big to some other girls in her pledge class. Sometimes you pick a big or little because they seem the perfect fit after your first couple weeks pledging, but remember that you barely know one another yet. There may be better fits that you hadn't met by the time you picked bigs. Remember, while it's always fun to become best friends with your big, there are tons of women in your chapter to form wonderful, close bonds with!

I know you feel like you shouldn't talk to your GM because your big was your first choice, but you should talk to her! That is what your GM is there for :) I am sure she would be glad to talk to you about it, it might even feel great for you just to have someone to vent to. Give it a shot!
