Doing this basically verifies that your GreekChat account is not a bot account, because bots won't/can't pay even a dollar.

And we will be blocking all unverified/bot accounts when GC switches over to being members-only.

I would have done this already but I’m not sure what email I used to register here. It feels like it was seven lifetimes ago lol

I hopefully changed my email after my last one went defunct.

To view your email address associated with your GC account, go to https://greekchat.com/gcforums/profi...o=editpassword

On that page you are also able to change your password and/or change the email address on your account.

If you change the email address for your GC account, please be careful not to lock yourself out. This forum software system can use some improvements with regards to updating email addresses. After using the form linked above to change an email address the forum system will require that the new address be re-activated via email. An email will be sent to your new email address containing a verification link. Once you click on that link your account email change will be verified.

You'll see a notice on GC and will not be able to post additional messages until your new email address is verified. (This is because email re-verification is linked with the system we use to help block bot account registrations.)

And... if the email address you change to has a typo or is not working for any other reason, you won't receive the email from GC and won't be able to click on that link to verify the change. That will lock you out of your GC account.

Just in case anything goes wrong, please feel free to first send me a private message with the subject "Email Change" or something similar. And in the private message list your old email address and the one you are changing to. This message will serve as a reminder to me to check on your account to make sure your email address change went through successfully. Also, if anything goes wrong I'll have your email addresses in that PM so I can contact you that way as I fix any issues.

Sorry for this inconvenience & risk of locking yourself out when changing your email address on GC. Improving this is on my to-do list. Ideally, the way it should work is the old email is saved and reverted back to if the new email address is not verified within 15 minutes or so. Or, maybe GC accounts should be able to add a backup recovery email address. But for now, be careful not to make any typos when updating your email address here if you decide to make any changes to it.

I received your private message and will assist via PM in updating your GC account email address. Will reply via PM in a moment. Also going to send an email to your new/current email address just to verify no typos, etc, before I change it in your GC account.

I’m wondering if I did it wrong. I put my email address in the field instead of my user name.

The only issue is that the email address you used on the Buy Me A Coffee website doesn't match the email address on your account here on GreekChat. GC username is not needed on BMAC, just the email address will need to match.

If you check out my second message posted into this thread I added details about how to view your email address used on GC as well as how to make sure not to accidentally lock yourself out when changing the email address if you do that.

When GC is switched over to verified members-only, I'll be running a program that takes all the email addresses used on the Buy Me A Coffee website and accounts with matching email addresses on GC will then be verified. That's why they need to match for this.

To get this sorted out you can update the email address on your GC account to match the address you used on BMAC or post another $1 on Buy Me A Coffee with your email address on GC. Either way will work.
