I am not an Arkansas PNM. When I registered that is the name sent to my email and can’t figure out how to change it. I am an aunt of an AR PNM this year and we are very close. My sister tells me that many girls there are having a rough recruitment. Lots have been dropped completely. I don’t mean they weren’t happy with their choices and dropped out. I mean completely dropped. Lots of mamas on the AR parents page talking about this. I find this strange. Wonder if some of the houses decided to release more than what the school’s Greek life told them and are just paying the fine.
UA grad here. Everybody is dropping them, not just the Big 4?
Yes. Being dropped from every house. Even the newest ones her suitemate was dropped completely after philanthropy round. Great gpa and not a rep risk. Just no AR connections.
It seems like the groups that have a lot of OOS girls would love to have her! Has your daughter gotten her pref party invites?
She just finished sisterhood round today. Not sure but think she gets pref invites early tomorrow. She has had some disappointments of course, but right now she is just thankful that she kept 4 for sisterhood. She is just hoping for at least 1 pref invite. Says she would be happy at any of the 4 but does have a clear favorite.
I don’t guess it hurts to say which ones she has left. You might be curious since you are an Arkansas grad. She has AXO, DDD, KD and APhi left. She is really loving the girls she has met in AXO and just the vibe of the house in general. I am afraid that she has her heart set on them.
I hope she'll keep them all! Where is the AXO house now? It used to be near Pi Phi down Maple.
Thank you. My sister is on pins and needles tonight. 722 Maple. Between KKG and AOPii. Think it is about halfway down Maple.
DDD and AXO were there when I was. I love the DDD house!
I heard that they are using variable quota this year.
Interesting, that makes them, Alabama, and ole miss using it this year.
I'm just glad that they don't have bed rush anymore.

Bid day was this morning. 2,128 out of 2,255 got bids. 95%
ADPi posted that they took 194!
Arkansas has done a phenomenal job the last several years of having so many women successfully matched - bravo to them! And the bid day decorations…so, so amazing! Congrats to all!!! |
I enjoyed the Facebook live stream as always.
I would love to know the retention rates of PNM classes at Arkansas.
Carnation, I would too. I have several good friends who have daughters that are currently actives there. Lots of grumbling this week about some chapters having to release more than usual (and releasing many PNMs that they really wanted); so that Alpja Phi would get a lot. Not sure that is the best idea because my niece said lots of girls who got Alpha Phi ran crying back to their dorms and are not going to even give them a try. I know they aill all probably regret it but I can kind of understand them wanting a chapter with a beautiful mansion. My niece went AXO.
I know Arkansas loves to brag about the high percentage of PNMs that receive bids, but I suspect that their retention rate is pretty abysmal,

I have known several PNMs who went to schools who had new chapters coming up, and quota was cut to help the new chapters. Panhellenic pushed and pushed the new chapter but the girls weren't having it, with PNMs dropping before they would take the new group. Others felt that they were almost forced into listed the new group second and told that almost everyone gets their first choice. This is one reason that Greeks get a bad reputation. |
Yes Carnation, I don’t think this pushing girls into the new chapter works out so well. Same thing happened to my daughter about 10 years ago. She accepted a bid to AXO (and was ultimately happy). Her pledge class had like 200 women, but only about 110 actually initiated. They are doing great now. Alpha Phi will catch up once their house is built. Even DG (have only been around maybe 5 years) is sought after already by many PNMs
And thank you. My niece is literally on cloud 9 tonight.

Did anyone see numbers for XO, Pi Phi or kappa?

Anyhow, that stinks the PNMs had that attitude about Aphi, it would be an amazing opportunity to be the “first” PC the house has. I do know their new house is in the works for the future. |
Pi Phi just posted 150.
One of the cheerleaders who is a Kappa posted a TikTok with something like “I won’t get to get a little because our pledge class is so small”….guessing they were held to something similar? |
I remember the bed rush days at Arkansas when sororities could set their own quota. KKG, which was a desirable sorority then as well, had a tiny pledge class composed of top PNMs. It was said that they could have had a bigger one but that they told everyone they took everybody they wanted. This caused a huge uproar. It devastated my roommate, who had gone to Chi O and Kappa for prefs and received neither. A Kappa was her best friend.
That makes me so sad for your roommate. Sadly, some of those “top/older” sororities at Arkansas still have that attitude. My daughter in law was a KD and a gamma chi back in 2016. She said that a few of the gamma chis in a couple of those chapters were condescending and would not even talk to them. Sad that this is still going on. She loves her house and said that nobody really cares which sorority you are in after first semester…..with the exception of some members in a couple,of chapters.
