finding your letters somewhere you didn't expect

One of my favorite students showed up to visit our school today in her new Alpha Gam letters!

Now that must be one of the best ways to see letters!

I have no idea if this link will work for any of you, but I assure you, the letters are there ;)

LOL! But.........Alpha Gamma Delta has never had a chapter at DePaul University. Just sayin'. ;)

SquirrelyDays 11-21-2022 06:46 AM

Makes it even more unexpected ;)

She's not a sister of Alpha Gamma Delta, she is a sister of Delta Resh Alpha. (ΔרΑ). Definitely not the first Organization to have letters from both the Greek and Hebrew Alphabets in their name, see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Beta_Samach which became Beta Sigma Rho. :)

naraht 11-21-2022 03:05 PM

Not sure how many GLOs have a "mirror image" group, where the letters are in the opposite order, but the letters "look right". I know that Phi Alpha exists and Omega Phi Alpha exists, but beyond that, I'm not sure.

I live in Western NC and have family in Virginia, so I end up traveling back and forth on 81 quite often. In SW Virginia along the side of the highway near Emory & Henry College is a place where the fraternities have painted their letters on the rocks. They are mainly locals. I always look for it when we go by, and it makes a fun little landmark on anotherwise pretty boring stretch of road.

That's awesome!! What chapter?

Rep. Barbara Lee is wearing a very prominent Sigma Gamma Rho pendant during an appearance on Nicolle Wallace’s show right now.

Dang, I thought I already answered this one. Georgia Tech! I really like that chapter; one of my oldest daughter's best friends was initiated there.

I love that chapter too! One of my good friend's granddaughter was chapter president there a few years ago. And, when I served on our Int'l Finance Committee...they were one of "my" chapters as I had Georgia & Alabama chapters in my region. They have a gorgeous house!

A bicycle BEING DRIVEN ON THE SIDEWALK by a young man who wore a t-shirt sporting small Sigma Phi Epsilon greek letters. Didn't expect to see someone in greek letters breaking the law by riding a bike on the sidewalk. Kind of disappointing, since I rarely see people in greek letters.

On the hottest day [so far] this year: a beautiful green 2021 ATO Fall Recruitment t-shirt, worn by a student inside the local library. This is Orientation Week for freshmen at the local college, so wearing it makes good marketing sense.

Cookiez17 10-03-2023 03:26 PM

Was walking my dog and saw a woman wearing a Kappa Kappa Gamma hat!

I was behind a car with a Delta Sigma Theta license plate frame today.

I found out today that my coworker is a Kappa Alpha Theta alumnae, Tar Heel charter class.

The school where I work is celebrating 30 years this year. I've been pulling photos from old yearbooks for a presentation. Imagine my surprise when I found an elementary student sporting Greek letters in a photo from the 2000 yearbook. It looks like a 5th grade boy wearing an Alpha Delta Gamma t-shirt.

One of my favorite content creators Abby In The Galley is a Pi Phi!
I hope this link shows up:

She's a culinary arts teacher and a private chef on a yacht and she wore a Pi Phi tank to go swimming with the pigs in the Caribbean :)

My husband has a thing about buying what I would call old/vintage cars for next to nothing. They still run so at least kudos to him for not having a car payment. At any rate he brought a car home the other week he comes in and says go out an take a look. Its a run of the mill sedan, but as I am walking back inside I look at the back window and see a Phi Mu sticker on the back. Well I'm not a Phi Mu and no one in our household is, so with all due respect to the Phi Mu's here, I removed the sticker.

The sticker had to have been on the car of a long time because as I scraped it off the sticker itself was hard and came off in smaller pieces, I will say whomever made the sticker way back when clearly used some quality materials and adhesives.

navane 03-12-2024 03:15 PM

As I was scrolling through one of my former coworker's Facebook feed, I saw a picture of him posing for a picture with his [biological] brother. The brother was wearing a Delta Lambda Phi letter sweatshirt. DLP is a social fraternity for gay, bisexual, transgender and progressive men. My former Greek Life Director at SDSU is a member of the same fraternity. We don't get to see the letters too often!

Cheerio 05-29-2024 06:05 PM

Observed a young lady wearing a sweatshirt with "Always Alpha Xi", and a pretty ribbon design, on the shirt's back. She was walking quickly past me toward her car to go home.

ETA a second greek letters sighting: a KAPPA t-shirt on the coffeehouse barista.

Among a large group of rear window stickers on one automobile were included those for The University of South Alabama and Kappa Delta (KD in greek letters).

Haven't observed that many stickers on one auto for many moons. Is that a southern thing? :)

I feel like you see lots of stickers here the most when someone is into all kinds of outdoor activities, and the driver wants you to know where he has hiked or what he hunts or what kind of outdoor products he uses.

The University of South Alabama is my alma mater!

A woman featured in a NYT article today about anti-Semitism on campus is an Alpha Omicron Pi at Barnard/Columbia. Pretty impressive lady. Her name is Abigail Fixel.

I’d post a link but it’s behind a paywall :( JewishOnCampus on IG has a post about the article.

I use this to get into articles behind a pay wall. All you have to do is run the article link through it.

Cool! Thanks. Although, the NYT keeps trying to lure me back with special offers so one day I’m just going to give in :)

Chipotle often hosts checkout fundraisers where a percentage of the sales during a specific time frame goes to a local charity. In our line during tonight's event was a young lady wearing a sweatshirt sporting Tri Delta letters.

Community service alert!

I was walking intro Target very early this morning when I saw a group of people gathered by the entrance. I noticed two fire department personnel and a bunch of people in D9 sweaters and so I stopped for a second to try and figure out what was going on. (I'm a firefighter myself and one of my coworkers is a Kappa Alpha Psi.)

One woman noticed me looking and she came over to introduce herself and enthusiastically tell me about their service project. This San Diego area group of D9 members teamed up with the SDFD Black Firefighters association to sponsor about 10 families for Christmas. They were coming in to purchase the gifts on the families' wish lists and they will be going around soon to surprise each of the families.

I was really blessed to be able to meet this group this morning and they brightened my day with some Christmas cheer.

Cheerio 12-11-2024 09:09 PM

Your post is very cool, navane :)

Usually at this time of year, I see many greek letters being worn on clothing by local collegians studying for finals at the library. This year, I'm only seeing high school students studying at the library, and they are wearing shirts with logos for the colleges they want to attend...TCU, Indiana, Michigan State, Iowa, The Chicago Bears....wait a minute, that last student must be wanting to attend The School Of Hard Knocks ;)

LaneSig 12-12-2024 10:17 AM

I was watching an old episode of "American Housewife". The main character, Katie, was wearing an Alpha Tau Omega cap. She was talking about going to fraternity parties when she was in college.

What a wonderful project for the the area D9 members sponsor. Glad that you had the opportunity to meet them.

Old-fashioned design (1950's or 60's) of a Delta Gamma crest within a seal, on a sweatshirt, all in muted colors on a woman in our local tea house. Especially fond of the older-type design.

XAntoftheSkyX 12-26-2024 08:14 AM

Found a woman wearing a Gamma Phi Beta sweatshirt in Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo.

Based on her outfit/style/mannerisms she didn't look like a tourist/expat so I was quite surprised, but didn't have an opportunity to ask her about it.

tezan666 12-27-2024 07:44 PM

That's awesome! It's cool how you noticed the Delta Gamma design too, those old-school crests have a certain charm. It's nice when something familiar pops up in unexpected places, like the Gamma Phi Beta sweatshirt in Tokyo.

Cheerio 12-29-2024 10:36 AM

In the space of one hour of busy shopping, observed:

Young lady wearing soft blue, long-sleeve overshirt that said 'Tri Delta' in soft white on the front;

Car with Iowa license plates and both Sigma Kappa and Phi Sigma Sigma stylized greek letters in rear window, which also sported an IOWA STATE university sticker. Hope they enjoyed the victory by their football team in the PopTarts Bowl game yesterday!

aephi alum 01-09-2025 10:36 PM

I went for a massage today. The other lady in the waiting room was a Delta Sigma Theta. She was wearing a black jacket, crimson letters, cream background.

Ooh now that would be a sweatshirt I'd love to own!!
My mom had a navy blue short sleeved sweatshirt with the DG crest in white. Unfortunately she used it as a painting/house work top, so I never had the chance to wear it.
