What kind of name is this for a Paraphernalia shop?
A friend of mine is opening a Paraphernalia shop and we are currently debating a name she's considering for the store.
She thinks "Sportin Para" is a wonderful name. I, on the other hand, think it's wack as hell. What do you all think?? |
If she likes it...I love it!
Soror, what was your suggeston?
|
I think the name sounds cool. I would shop there, after I shop at my sorors' store, Greeks R Us in Saginaw!! (plug, plug!) ;)
|
I have not offered any suggestions as far as the name goes because I was not asked.
There are a few of us working together to help get this business off and running. She called me today and told me her co-worker (some 53 year old woman who apparently thinks the word "sportin"is still cool) came up with a great name for the Para shop: Sportin Para. I told her I did not like that name. I think she should put a bit more thought into it. The name 'Sportin Para' just sounds dumb to me and is void of all creativity and originality. I mean, let's put some thought into it. First off, the word 'Sportin' is an outdated term that was used back in the late 80s...early 90s i.e. "Yo! I'm gonna be sportin my new addidas with my sheepskin coat today." or "Man, he's really sportin that jerri curl!" I don't know about you all, but I don't want to be 'sportin' anything. If 'Sportin Para' is a cool name, why not consider "Get Yo Funky Fresh Para Here" store or "Bad To The Bone Para" shop? I mean it just sounds so wack... There are so many Paraphernalia stores out there with catchy names: The Burning Sands The Greek Connection Greek4Life Simply Greek Sportin Para ???? Anyway, I told her I would put the name out there and get other people's opinion. If I were not working on getting this business started with her, I really would not mind what she named it. Because I am.....and because one of my responsisbilities is promoting the business....I want the name to be better than "Sportin Para" |

But come on now....."Sportin Para" ??? The other name the co-worker came up with was: Sport N Para  |

The "Greek Connection" for instance....if it were not already taken, would have been perfect because everyone working on this project with her is Greek (1 AKA, 2 Deltas, 1 Alpha and 1 Sigma). 5 Greeks together should be able to come up with something better than Sportin Para . I mean, if we have to form a Name Committtee for the store...then so be it...but the idea of taking the first lame suggestion from a co-worker who doesn't have a clue about Greeks or Paraphernalia is ridiculous. |
Will it only be a para shop? Will it be an online venture or will local folks be able to come in and shop?
Trying to think of names, if she uses one of our names will there be a plaque with my pic in the store as a silent partner  and a FREE DST jacket :D **********EDITED*************8 No matter what the title, put the title in the COLORS of each of the owners: OOOO I am really working on a name too. Tell her I wanna be RECK ON EYEZED  |

If anyone can come up with a name that she uses, I will guarantee if you send me a picture we will put your name on a plaque, put it in the front of the store and entitle it "Silent Partner". AND...you'll get a free t-shirt :D |

no jacket huh:( :( I need to lose weight before you get a pic so I can look voluptuous and stuh. :D |
These are coming to mind:
5 Greeks & A Dream The Unity Greek Store The Unity Para Shop THE Para Shop The 5 Flavors of Unity I don't know....these may sound lame to some or all. But they are ideas that others can expand. |

Crimson Tide, the target date for the shop's opening is not until January 13th, 2003 so you have plenty of time to get all voluptuous and stuh (LOL!)
I'm really feeling The Five Flavors of Unity and The Para Shop! Or maybe a combination of the 2: F I V E Flavors Para Shop |

Miss Priss, what happened with your Para shop venture? (I like Greek Luv, btw).
My friend just called me to tell me she was going to fire me (LOL!)...she just read the thread and left a message on my machine saying "I'm going to kill you fool...promising people free t-shirts." She also said if she puts Crimson Tide's picture up on the wall, it's going to read "Silent Partner: So silent we never even met her (all we have is this picture)" (CrimsonTide...it's the best we can do girl!) :D No but seriously, she loves the Five Flavors idea...but she said it should be Nine Flavors (for each of the 9 orgs.) She also likes The Para Shop, it's simple yet sounds good. We will be promoting the business soon, but Zetafg if you're in NY, the free t-shirt still stands. Thanks for the great idea :) |

I love A Divine Apparel Place!!! |
The Latino Greeks! Good looking out TooCute!! We forgot all about our Latino brothers and sisters.
DivaEmeritus, I like "D-Nine Clothesline"! We were just discussing last night, if we could actually use the term "Divine Nine" in the title. I know Bro. Lawrence Ross used it as the title of his book. TKESweetheart, rest assured...we are not selling heads (or any other body parts). :D |

weelllll....
My brother is a member of AphiA and draws VERY well....so to help him begin a career in graphic design I suggested opening a pary shop...(everyone in our family is some type of greek)..2MALSS, he designed a few pieces....ZETA, Delta , and AKA wear. in order to get them (t-shirts)printed you must have them screen printed (very pricy) plus some of the designs we had for jackets needed to be embroidered. A sista like me believe in BW in business....so I called a chick (a sista) my mom knows who did embroidering for her org., I paid her and never recieved my product.....I live 15 hrs. away. O WELL...finding embroiders and screen printers can be difficult. Hopefully, NY is better than where I am.
Good Luck!!! More Names KADIOAS (an acrononym) Grip LS CrossSands *as you can tell I like short names lol Sidebar: HC I am in TOOOO many business ventures? Who am I--the hook up lady? I got issues...lol another thread another topic!!!!LOL |
Re: weelllll....

That way you don't leave out the Latino greeks. They use the "crossing sands" terminolgy also. |

I would like to second the nomination for CrossSands !!! |
May I make a suggestion? If the name of the shop is one that only Greeks will know, have you considered a "tag line" ? The name of the shop, then the tag line. For example, Coke, the real thing,
Sportin Para, the place for Greek paraphenlia or something along those lines. If your target market is only Greeks, then the tag line may not be that important. |
What about Pari House
Crossing Sandz Pari Pari United Mission N Pari |
I kinda like it. What about "SPORTY NALIA"
|
Does It really matter?
What's in a name? I shop at stores based on service, product, price in that order. If everything else is on point who cares what it's called. If it was called HEY YOU, but they sold quality Zeta stuff I'm there. Word of mouth will attract people, not a fancy name. The store I buy my Para from in Chicago is called LLODY's.
Named after owner. The window display let's you know what it sells and other advertising. A rose by any other name! |

I thought about it
As I said, I'll shop @ Sport N Para or HEY YOU if I liked the service, product and prices were reasonable.
