Food most people enjoy, but you avoid it like the plague

Sushi. I tried it once and almost puked.

carnation 05-12-2023 09:27 PM

Anything spicy.

Agreed. Although, no "almost" for me.

Sadly, I can't do the mildest of spices any more.

cheerfulgreek 05-12-2023 09:36 PM

Potato salad. Basically, anything involving mayonnaise.

AGDee 05-12-2023 11:43 PM

I agree with all of these so far. Sushi just - yuk. I hate fish, except for shellfish. I hate mayo on or in anything. Mild spice is ok but I want to be able to taste my food, not burn my mouth.

Add Thai food to this list for me.

I think cantaloupe tastes so gross...blech!!

I like just regular watermelon (preferably chilled). No other melons.

People think I'm nuts.

33girl 05-13-2023 04:59 AM

Cheese popcorn or Cheetos. Repulsive.

PrettyBoy 05-13-2023 01:09 PM

Whatever that sweet beef is called. It’s beef, with a hint of a sweet taste to it. Any kind of meat with that taste to it, I can’t. Nasty as hell.

TLLK 05-14-2023 08:33 PM

Peanut Butter and jelly combined together and milk on cereal.

navane 05-15-2023 11:18 AM

Just say no to bananas, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon. With bananas in particular, I can't deal if you're sitting next to me eating a banana or when people keep the empty peel sitting there on the table. Gross. Double bag that nasty thing and put it in the trash outside.

PGD-GRAD 05-15-2023 01:14 PM

Any kind of fish that radiates that strong “fishy” smell. I can tolerate fresh grouper or Mahi Mahi (both grilled). But anything poached or even broiled—GAG!! And those “all-you-can-eat” catfish places that serve it highly battered and deep fried: NAUSEATING!!

AlwaysSAI 05-15-2023 03:37 PM

Almost any fruit. Also, apple pie, cherry pie, pumpkin pie, etc.
Sushi, also.

shadokat 05-15-2023 05:27 PM

Boiled potatoes - like in soup, or just as a side. OMG  SO GROSS!

aephi alum 05-15-2023 06:11 PM

Oh boy, do I have a list.

Top of the list: red beans and rice. (Please don't cut up my Southern card. My folks were Catholic and wouldn't eat meat on Fridays, Lent or not. Every few weeks, my mother prepared vegetarian red beans and rice, and it was barf city.)

Corned beef and cabbage.

Dhal.

Stuffed grape leaves. (Again, barf city.)

Brussels sprouts. (OK, maybe that doesn't fit the "most people enjoy" criterion.)

I'm generally willing to try anything once, but if I don't like it, I don't like it, and that's that.

AOIIalum 05-16-2023 10:04 AM

Red meat, besides the very occasional Arbys Roast Beef & Cheddar. Doesn't matter how it's prepared, I won't eat it.

Kevin 05-16-2023 10:09 AM

It's funny I joined this board in my early 20s. Back then, I had no applicable list.

I now have a list. No red meats, shellfish, turkey, wild game, cold water seafood, avoid refined sugars and especially any cured meats. I don't get to eat lunches out anymore.

And I'm down 20-30 pounds since I started avoiding those things, so I guess that works.

Cheerio 05-16-2023 07:51 PM

It's not food, it's 99.5% of all the types of alcohol. Barely touch champagne at weddings; will sometimes have teeny tiny sip of wine at an event. No beer, ever. Not interested. Call me crazy? It works for me.

JayhawkAOII 05-17-2023 10:16 AM

Bacon.

andthen 05-17-2023 12:29 PM

Eggs. I'm not allergic and I still happily enjoy cake and other things where I can't taste the eggs. I will eat french toast but if too much egg hanging off the end I'll cut the egg off.

UVASquirrel 05-20-2023 07:41 AM

I have texture issues...don't mind the flavor so much, but can't stand the texture. Mushrooms fall into that category and at some restaurants, it seems they want to put them on everything.

Xidelt 05-20-2023 11:26 PM

Celery, watermelon, shellfish, beer, sushi and grapefruit.
I don't like bitter or strong fishy flavors. And some are texture issues.

aggieAXO 06-14-2023 07:02 PM

Cucumbers, cilantro, kale, watermelon, meat and chicken
I will eat seafood like salmon and tuna but try to eat mostly plant based food.

You and Kevin are probably the healthiest eaters here.

Look up super taster for the bitter issue. I'm definitely one!

Ahh, I wish, if only I didn’t like sweets. Now off to eat my chocolate cake from La Madeline.😂
