University of Alabama Recruitment 2022

Well everyone, we're here! The biggest recruitment in the country with 2,575 (!!) PNMs hoping to find their home away from home! Here is the schedule for the week.

Wednesday, August 3 - Friday, August 5: Early Move-In (on-campus only)
Saturday, August 6: Convocation (morning)
Saturday, August 6: Open House (afternoon)
Sunday, August 7: Philanthropy Day I
Monday, August 8: Philanthropy Day II
Tuesday, August 9: Philanthropy Day III
Wednesday, August 10: Sisterhood Day I
Thursday, August 11: Sisterhood Day II
Friday, August 12: Sisterhood Day III
Saturday, August 13: Preference Day I
Sunday, August 14: Bid Day

All of the rounds will be in person this year thankfully, though if I'm correct open house has become a round of watching chapter videos. To everyone involved, good luck and may there be another successful recruitment!

Interesting! I was wondering how the PNMs were supposed to go to Convocation in the morning and then *all* of the chapters that day. That's nice that they are going to watch the videos and rank; but, I'm pretty sure we all know that the chapters will be cutting on grades, Instagram profiles, (recs?), and who they know, etc. The PNMs watching the videos and ranking chapters is just a formality and going through the motions. :o

Best of luck for each PNM to be matched with the PERFECT house for her!

Isn’t Arkansas getting close in total number of PNMs?

They had 2274 PNMs registered. As someone who went to a school with 20-30 people in a pledge class, these huge SEC numbers baffle me still!

Titchou 08-02-2022 06:12 PM

It just grew over time....and then Nick Saban hit campus....applications go up after every NC! It's really weird...but we love it!

How many sororities participate in NPC rush? (and how many NPC sororities don't have chapters at UA?)

I believe 19 for first round and then Sigma Delta Tau drops off and does a much smaller version of formal recruitment. They just don't have the numbers to host parties like the other houses. They did however participate in 2020 when it was virtual.

Monster recruitment numbers for sure…..

Assuming both schools had a 93% bid rate, Alabamas new member classes would be at 133 vs Arkansas at 192!!:eek::eek:

FSUZeta 08-03-2022 02:12 PM

Naraht, there are 26 NPC sororities.

shadokat 08-03-2022 02:19 PM

Alabama has 18 NPC sororities. SDT does the first round, but then they do their own thing.

There is also a Christian sorority that isn't an NPC one that participates the first day and then does their own thing similar to SDT

This may seem a bit off topic but the work week themes are amazing! A banner for each day and the great costumes the actives are wearing are great!

Cheerio 08-06-2022 07:33 AM

Question from a Northerner who somehow couldn't locate the answer: what is the maximum number of invites a rushee may accept during each round

Via the Greek Chic and my daughter.

18-12-7-2!

carnation 08-06-2022 08:59 AM

Our niece is now a senior at Bama. Seems like she was just rushing yesterday!

You must have "rushed" a while back. The PNMs do not accept or decline invitations any longer. They "rank" all the groups on the first day and then they "rank" the ones they visit each day. The chapters "rank" the PNMs they want to invite. The computer matches the lists and the PNMs get a list of the chapters they will visit that day.

I’ve been confused all week lol. I keep seeing girls dressed in theme outfits and then I think, oh recruitment must have started…guess they just have themes for everything there!

I think maybe she meant the max number of invites each PNM can receive per round?

RFM hasn't been around all that long. It's absolutely possible she went thru before it was implemented.

Possibly.

So does anyone know the max number per round?

AZTheta 08-07-2022 04:46 PM

Hey, ASTalumna06 - upthread - RIF :D (you're asking about max # of invites per round, correct?)

Same- really confused me also. Not only will there never be "no frills" recruitment in the SEC, now there's full frill workweek!

They've always had that.
Just a way to keep everybody's spiritis high!

I feel like this is a little dig at the SEC. Many SEC schools mange to put on and successfully execute some of the biggest recruitments in the country with a very high bid day rate so maybe they should be seen as the gold standard in terms of recruitment and football LOL . The "frills" for work week are fun and as an SEC mom I can tell you the actives look forward to it and the added expense isn't that much. Much less than my weekly Starbucks addiction. :)

shadokat 08-08-2022 11:40 AM

Per my understanding, the recruitment format at Alabama is 18-13-8-2

SquirrelyDays 08-08-2022 11:58 AM

That’s a big drop from 8 to 2 at the end. I guess I’m surprised that they don’t have 3 prefs.

I don't think anybody has 3 prefs now. Per NPC.

AnchorAlumna 08-08-2022 01:23 PM

Talk about full frill recruitment...
I went through recruitment in 1970 but heard about 1960s-style full-frill recruitment. NOTHING has topped 1960s style. We're talking skits with elaborate costumes and sets, professionally-written script and songs. Food and drink for rushees (some campuses did full meals for pref), favors that the rushees took home, matching everything for actives for each round. Living rooms made into gardens with fountains and bowers of flowers. Budgets of tens of thousands of $$$.
Nobody today can even imagine it.

shadokat 08-08-2022 01:30 PM

That's correct. The research that NPC has done suggests that most women wouldn't want their third choice and tend to drop out after two, so all campuses only have 2 events now.

I went thru in 1963 - at Alabama. We lucked out that the local fire station was behind our house so the firemen helped with all our props, etc. Skit Day had the whole front of the the 3 story house covered by a wooden cruise ship! Pref was a full blown skit with southern belle gowns. We also had a preference brunch the next day - full food. Nothing like that going on anywhere today.

Man, I wish some chapters had made movies of those frilly rush events! I'd love to see what some of those Broadway performances looked like.

I love data-driven decisions but now I’m a little sad. I wrote an introduction for a girl who is a TriDelta legacy whose best friend is an active ChiO on the same campus. With only 2 prefs she probably won’t pref Alpha Gam. Guess I need to read up a little more to be current!

We did "Showboat". With a massive showboat in the chapter room and magnolias everywhere! We practiced in the spring and during pre-rush week and of course, all the Showboat songs were themed to Pi Phi.

I saw some unreal productions at MS State too.

FSUZeta 08-09-2022 10:04 AM

My Fair Lady. And later Cabaret.

It’s kind of cool! I cannot imagine the amount of work involved in that kind of recruitment for the chapters.

I also cannot imagine how many tshirts each sister accumulates over her four years!

Cookiez17 08-09-2022 03:53 PM

The extras do end up either in big/little baskets or on t-shirt swaps! Most of my shirt collection comes from the latter.

This randomly popped up when I went to Google something else just now...

If they’re insistent on that, they should have another round, because going from 8 to 2 is a BIG drop and I as a rushee would feel awfully disempowered.* JMHO.

*Yes, I realize they pretty much are in a rush this large, but I would really like to see the receipts on this one.
