Per our Twitter and our National Website, we are colonizing at Clemson (recharter) and the University of Minnesota next month. We will have 4 colonizations during Fall 2022

Kappa Alpha Theta has announced the closing of the Beta Sigma Chapter at Southern Methodist University effective immediately due to hazing and risk management issues.

Wow.

Sigma Chi has closed the chapter at the University of Kansas. Closure is due to hazing and RMF.

Wow! As I understand this was a very popular chapter.

The house is spectacular, but... WOW! Will they be able to return in four years?

They said the chapter could potentially come back in 2 years minimum.

Now we wait and see if the members try to pull off "Underground Theta" until they come back, including illegal recruitment.

And it’s sad…founded in 1929. This was Laura Bush’s Theta chapter. On the Theta website it lists the chapter as: “disestablished”….an interesting word choice, perhaps less harsh than CLOSED.

Seems like the prestige chapters get in more trouble.

I rushed and graduated from SMU in the 90s and I am forever happy that my three girls decided not to attend my alma mater for undergrad. Rush was horrendous on my nerves back then and it’s become even more cutthroat in this age of social media and popularity. I have no idea how Panhellenic is going to adjust to having one less house when SMU has been in need of more houses for years and the environment at SMU is so toxic for the girls, I sincerely hope things will end up going smoothly this fall.

Tri Sigma has announced the closure of their chapter at Old Dominion due to numbers.

FYI: as long as I've been a member, Kappa Alpha Theta uses "disestablished" for chapters that are no longer open, regardless of reason(s). IDK if any other NPC organization uses this particular descriptor, and I'm disinclined to look as it's not interesting to me. Given the circumstances, "disestablished" is a preferable word choice to "closed", when you compare the definitions of both words. Semantics aside, the end result is that the chapter has ceased operations.

Honestly, I'm somewhat disturbed and even a little sad about Tri Sigma closing at Old Dominion (anyone can connect the dots if you're reading reddit, which has much more Greek Life activity than GC does).

I think every greek org calls it something different. in AOII it's "the charter is held in trust" or something like that.

You can add Southeast Missouri State to the list also.

Busy year for DU. The expansion team is opening a new chapter at the University of Tampa and reopening closed chapters at Oregon State University, North Carolina State University,The University of Kansas and The University of Washington.
DU closed at The University of Oregon.

Iota Phi Theta will be establishing a chapter at Quincy University(IL).

In addition to adding Iota Phi Theta, the university is upgrading the existing houses.
Currently, they have Phi Sigma Sigma, Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Tau Delta; but it sounds as if they are open to expanding their Greek Life presence.

Quincy University also has a chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma.

If, and this is a big if, the university is really serious about upgrading their Greek community, it will be a big change. They have seemed to be actively trying to discourage Greek life up to this point. Our chapter has struggled with their housing and the university doing their best to discourage the chapter members from having a safe and secure place to live.

Speaking of Phi Sigma Sigma, they have closed their last standing Canadian chapter at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. My condolences to the sisters of the former Zeta Eta chapter.

Do either of you know whether the Quincy Phi Sigma Sigma chapter is definitely closed, or perhaps only temporarily dormant? The official Phi Sig website and the Quincy Greek Page website no longer list that chapter as open.
