What was the final total of PMNs?

Cookiez17 08-09-2021 04:53 PM

It was over 2000 last I checked.

UAJen 08-11-2021 06:17 PM

Any word on how it’s all going this year? I didn’t have any rec girls going through this time.

Wow - 2500 pnms. It is hard to wrap your mind around what it takes to survive, especially the early cuts. Would love to see the statistics, but information this year on any of the recruitments is sparse.

LXA SE285 08-12-2021 02:29 PM

A lot of PNMs this year are making TikTok videos about their recruitment experiences. These kids today!

So funny... I just came here to post this article that randomly popped up for me: https://www.intheknow.com/post/bama-...f-alabama/?amp

One HUGE point of misinformation in this article states, "Sorority rush is flashy, expensive, over-the-top and enthusiastic on purpose..."

Research, people. That old 'journalist' needs to rise above their old sorority RUSH misconceptions!

Yea, I don't think this site is known for its hard-hitting journalism...;)

Cookiez17 08-12-2021 07:02 PM

The people reacting to all this on Tik Tok are half who have never heard of greek life and are straight up fascinated, then those who went through recruitment years ago saying "Man if I walked in with what I was wearing I never would have made it!" It's humorous.

ASTalumna06 08-13-2021 09:16 AM

It's now hit NBC News! :D

Oh how I am glad we did not have TikTok back when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

FSUZeta 08-14-2021 09:01 AM

The thing is, there are numerous vloggers in Bama sororities on youtube, and they "name" what they are wearing, I guess, in the hopes that they will get something for promoting the brands they are naming. I don't know if these PNMs are just copying those members, or they are that savvy that they are also hoping for some kick back for the brands they are promoting. Either way, good luck girls, and thanks for the entertainment.

2515 registered for recruitment this year - expect to give out 2400 bids tomorrow...

UVASquirrel 08-14-2021 11:49 AM

Is the recruitment thread not coming back this year? I have to admit, I'm slightly addicted to that thread.

If you're speaking of irishpipes yearly recruitment and chapters listing, I notice she began it last year on August 16th. And she did mention, within past 3 years, she got married and wouldn't be as fast/active with updates. One can tell it DOES require a lot of work!

Anyone with deeper/further info on the possibility of a 2021-22 list?

:

Yep...exactly the list I'm referring to! I look forward to it every year! And, yes, so appreciative that she takes the time to do it every year!! It has got to be a tremendous about of work!!

What on earth is all this about women sharing their recruitments on TikTok and now psychos are threatening the women (I have no clue why) on Bid Day and elsewhere?

AGDee 08-15-2021 12:13 PM

I’ve been following the TikToks and having a blast with them. They are like recruitment stories but they are all being cautious about which houses they were invited to. The number of golden geese shoes and Kendra Scott jewelry is crazy.

Speaking of Kendra Scott, this article popped up for me yesterday. I had never even heard of this jewelry line until this week. Apparently recruitment is really helping the business.

There was one heavily hyped TikTok PNM who got released everywhere after it came out that she had a embarrassing video online. Then Panhellenic starting getting death threats from people who thought she was unfairly targeted.

PGD-GRAD 08-15-2021 01:17 PM

I believe I read that AL bid day reveal will be at 2 PM EST today, 8/15. Will it be available online to watch or stream?

That’s crazy. As much as I enjoy being a fly in the wall to watch things like this, sometimes I think people just throw their privacy out the window and forget there are unhinged people in the world...

Bring back anonymous GC recruitment stories!

No

Cookiez17 08-15-2021 08:07 PM

I did see some on the sororities' instagrams. I do remember in 2019 they did upload a brief clip show of the run to the houses

She was also the one bi-racial PNM who was posting on TikTok. That probably led to some of the accusations that she was unfairly targeted given Bama's history with this.

Love that high percentage! :D

People magazine did a feature on how to get the "sorority PNM look at any age!"

I’ve had Kendra Scott jewelry since 2016. Does this make me a trend-setter?
I started wearing my earrings and bracelet to events at the UCLA Chi O house and now everyone wears Kendra Scott.

Can’t believe the article didn’t include Rustic Cuff bracelets (or Alex & Ani). Rustic Cuff actually makes several styles for almost all NPC groups, plus a few multicultural and service groups (some are on sale right now, in case anyone is looking for a New Member gift). Both Rustic Cuff and Alex & Ani makes bracelets with university charms/logos.

I was enjoying the 'Bama RushTok videos these past couple weeks. Absolutely lived for it lol happy for these girls!

aephi alum 08-17-2021 06:51 PM

This article was in today's New York Times:

#BamaRush Explained

A number of PNMs have been posting TikTok videos showing what outfits they were wearing each day. "Frequently cited brands include a mix of fast-fashion and designer labels: Michael Kors, Shein, Steve Madden, Kendra Scott, LoveShackFancy and Hello Molly."

According to the article, "2,501 women attended Open House events this year, and 2,307 of them ended up with a bid".

My favorite line from the article came at the end: "Bama Rush may be over, but Ole Miss Rush is just getting started." (Though I understand Ole Miss recruitment is already well underway.)

Cookiez17 08-17-2021 08:54 PM

Yeah I'm seeing tons of ole miss outfit videos done in a similar vain. I always wish them good luck in the comments if I can!

I read the article and watched the videos. Cringe-worthy and shallow. I can't unsee what I saw.

I do not know what quota was, but AOII has 141 New Members.

Does anyone know the schedule for Sigma Kappa to build a new house? Are they building on their current site? Maybe when they finish building and it if the numbers stay this strong, Alpha Xi Delta can re-colonize...

Phi Mu got 135!

Sigma Kappa said they were going to build a house within the next 3-5 years from when they colonized, and after that, who knows.

southernbuff 08-17-2021 10:38 PM

Wow this is exciting. Any word on quota? And how many women did Sigma Kappa get?

LouisaMay 08-18-2021 08:25 AM

Miss Pennsylvania's Outstanding Teen, Jaylen Baron, joined Phi Mu! When I heard she was going to Alabama, I wondered if she would go through recruitment. So fun to see her happy bid day photos!
