Deliver Us From Eva Starring LL
Release Date: January 31st, 2003 (pushed back six months from September 6th, 2002; originally scheduled for September 13th, 2002)
MPAA Rating: R (for sex-related dialogue) Distributor: Focus (the new name of USA Films) Production Company: Baltimore/Spring Creek Pictures (Possession, Bandits) Cast: Gabrielle Union (Eva), LL Cool J, Essence Atkins, Yuri Brown (Cynda), Johnny Gill, Meagan Good, Mel Jackson, Robinne Lee, Jaszmin Lewis (Lori), Nicole Lyn (Marguerite), Duane Martin, Kenya Moore, Mark Swenson (Earl) Cast Note: (9/29/01) This is probably going to be mentioned when LL does press for the film, so I'll mention it now. It was probably inevitable that he would play a character defined as a "ladies man" someday, since his professional name is short for "Ladies Love Cool James." Also, back in May, 2001, Gary Hardwick told BlackFilm.com that Halle Berry was also interested in a role (but she didn't actually end up signing). Director: Gary Hardwick (2001's The Brothers) Who's Gabrielle Union?: 9/29/01 - Gabrielle Union is currently best known for playing the leader of the African-American cheerleader squad in 2000's Bring it On. She also costarred in director Gary Hardwick's The Brothers. Screenwriter: Gary Hardwick (The Brothers, Trippin') Based Upon: An original script by Barbara Brauner and James Mattson (feature debuts). Hardwick took that story, which was about four caucasian sisters in Seattle, and adapted it to be about four African-American sisters in Atlanta. Premise: This is the story of three young African-American men who pay a "ladies man" (LL Cool J) $5,000 to romance their perfectionist sister-in-law (Union) so they can live their lives free of her constant meddling... but they're surprised by what happens next... (Lee and Good plays two of the sisters) Filming: Production started on October 17th, 2001 in Los Angeles. There will also be some filming in Atlanta. LL Cool J's scenes will be filmed first, allowing him to move on to Mindhunters in early 2002. Genre: African-American, Comedy, Romance **ALL Bolded names = CT4's EYE CANDY picks.** :D |
February 7th is the new date. I just saw the preview.

Woo was a mess to me. I saw it 1 1/2 times.:o |
This film is loosely based on "Taming of the Shrew" or "Kiss Me, Kate" so it should be pretty good. :)
I saw L L Cool J on Leno last night. He looked good when he showed off his abs. ;) |
The Trailer
|
This movie was greeeeeeeaaaaaaaaattttttttt. :D :D :D :D
Two of my boo hisses: 1. Essence Atkins' hair 2. Bethany -- Sister who was with Duane Martin's character; I was not feeling her as an actress or her character (don't want to spoil with specifics) This was a good movie on many levels. The ending was tres romantic. I would have cried but naaaaaaah. :p My date and I both give it the thumbs UP, waaaaaaaay up. |

2. Is she played by the girl that was in Eve's Bayou and Biker Boys? If she, I don't like her either. I CAN'T STAND the way that she always has her boobs pushed up all in people's face  . |

Great movie, loved it!! Beautiful romantic comedy. I bet u if it were white people acting, critics would have given it higher mark. LL and Gabrielle really played their parts well, and together.
Beautiful love story, believe made me wanna cry, makes u wanna be in love, and if ur already in love, makes u wanna stay in love. I felt the need to call my man right after the movie. :p By the way LL looks even better in person, nice warm cup of hot chocolate :D |

The actress who played Bethany is named Robinne Lee. She's also a lawyer. She's also in National Security with Martin and was also in Hav Plenty. I LOVED this movie!! :D It was so romantic at the end that yes, I did cry!! Even my boyfriend liked it and he doesn't like romantic movies because "they all have the same plot". On a side note, did anyone see the preview for Eddie Griffin's upcoming standup film "Dysfunktional Family"? The joke that got me was when he said that Michael Jackson now looks like the female monkey from Planet of the Apes? I was LMAO. http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung/...ittelgr002.gif |

Eddie Griffin -- don't like him as a comic but I might actually go see this one. This movie was WONDERFUL. Gary Hardwick is an author -- Megan Good's character read the book The Color of Justice to her husband in bed in one of the scenes. IMO -- much MUCH MUCH better than The Brothers. That movie had too many subplots. For those who saw it, I died when LL became one of the girls. :p |

Another funny thing to me, without spoiling the plot, were the faces and gestures that Gabrielle was making when she was directing the choir. |

EDITED Gina, didn't you just DIE @ Eva "critiquing" the minister?!?!!? I was like I betcha the reverend was saying, "If I wasn't saved I would KICK YO AZZZZZZZZZ." Or maybe it is just me and my heathen ways that would have said that. :p Oh and those BEANS!!!!! LMAO LMAO LMAO @ the brother-in-law who ate them. |
I just saw it today and it was really good. The part that stuck out in my mind was big ass LL riding that horse...a horse on top of a horse. LOL The gay hairdresser reminds me of my friend who lives downstairs.

"Kangaroo Jack," $5.9 million. 8. "Biker Boyz," $4 million. 9. "Darkness Falls," $3.8 million. 10. "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," $3.4 million. |
I wish there was a sideways thumb....
Well, I'll be the first to go out on a limb here...... I kinda didn't like the movie. I mean, it was mediocre at best. I think Gabrielle Union and LL were the only two with any sort of acting abilities in the entire movie. Everybody else sucked. Actually, all three of the husbands/boyfriends got on my nerves throughout. There wasn't a funny line between them. And Kym Whitley ..... I won't even go any further. Also, there were just too many unbelievable/unexplainable/stupid moments (and I'm not even talking about the ending). So, I say go see this movie if you just want to support black films. Otherwise, save your money.

Deliver Us From Eva
I'm going to have to go with Bamboozled on this one. I thought the movie was alright, but it wasn't nearly what I was hoping for. The adds seemed like it would be excellent, but it was a little too cheezy. I felt I couldn't really relate. I would suggest either waiting for it to hit Blockbuster, or going to a Matinee.

The movie was good.
What was up with the intro? They should have practiced that more. Did anyone notice Duane Martin's FOOT?!?!?!? He needs surgery! The joke about Eva and the cross chain she was given had me ROTFLMAO. She was straight wicked. What happened at the end when he came to Chicago? Some so and so's decided they wanted to argue about hitting someone's seat. Why wait until the end of the show to vent your frustrtaions? Needless to say, we reported the incident to management and got a free pass for another flick. Still, I don't know what was said. All I know is that they rode away. |
I have to agree with mediocre decisions. My favorite person was the gay guy in the shop...my opinions have already been voiced.

DVD & VHS Release
Deliver Us From Eva will come out on DVD and video on June 17th!
|
My sister has the bootleg tape and I decided to watch it a few weeks ago when I was bored out of my mind and didn't wanna hear my father play his music. I liked it. I was happy when Eva decided to pursue her dream job, but the ending was too cliche-ish to me. But to each his/her own.
