Brown Suga Soundtract
If you log on to www.vh1.com you can listen to the soundtrack :D
So far I give it 3 :D :D :D I love the new Jill Scott song Easy Conversation and Badu is doing her thang!!! They even got M J Blige doing a song. Check it out!!! To listen, click on Eryka's picture and you should see the link |
What'cha got them others don't....
The Mary song played during the trailer "Never Been" can be found on her latest CD. That was one of my most favorite songs on there. I hope it is released as a single.
|
The CD is definitely hot!
|
I LOVE that Erykah Badu track. THe video is hot and the song is just amazing
|
I just bought the soundtrack the other day and I agree that it's definitely hot! I love that Mary J cut.

I can't wait to see this movie now. Thanks for the link.

CT4,
Thanks for posting the link to this. :D I cannot WAIT for Friday to come so I can see this movie. Sanaa Lathan has become one of my favorite actresses. |
YES!!!! Friday I am so there!!!
Front and center...say I'm Not :-D |
The movie was pretty good...I just got back a few hours ago. Besides Sanaa Lathan and Taye Diggs...the cast was not the usual group of folks we see...which was refreshing. It wasn't that original...I mean you get the whole plot from the previews...nothin new. It was like Love and Basketball...Love Jones, and the Best Man all roled into one...it was worth my money...I'd buy it when it comes out on video...I liked Barbershop better though!
|
I loved this movie! It started off a little slow, but when it picked up, I was so into it.
As far as comparison to Love and Basketball, I think this movie was more mature. It went deeper. Also, the restaurant scene was HILARIOUS!!!! Don't wanna ruin it for anyone! ;) And I think it was very well-acted. Mos Def did and especially good job, he is really coming into his own as an actor. btw, we got previews for a new movie called DRUMLINE all about a fictional HBCU in Atlanta. From the previews it features subplots about BGLOs, the band (hazing), and football classics. It looks REALLY good. Also, preview for Denzel's directorial debut, Antwon Fisher. It looks good too, I will probably have to check both of those out. Last but not least, preview for 8 MILE! CAN'T WAIT! :D |
The RESTAURANT SCENE was hiiiiiilarious.
This was a good azzzzzzzzz movie except for the 3 HOODRAT BINCHES 2 rows behind me who kept talking. I tried to listen to my soundtrack after I left and it would not play in the car.  I loved the use of hip hop as an extended metaphor throughout the movie. Sanaa and Taye Diggs have such a good chemistry. I am also looking forward to Drumline, Deliverance from Eva, and Antwone :D Fisher. BORIS WAS FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE in that movie. Ya hear me??? He melted the butter on my popcorn fine!!! Those Hip Hop Dalmatians were HILARIOUS as well. How are you not going to be able to spell your own name?  |
Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy
I too was very pleased with the movie. I actually wouldn't mind seeing it again. I thought I had it all figured out from the previews but it was deeper than I expected.
I can't wait to see the other black movies they showed during the previews. I'm so happy that "we" are making movies with more depth and focusing on the positive aspects of the black experience. I was in awe throughout the preview of Drumline. I attend a predominantly white university and I feel like I've missed out on the black college experience. If I could do it all over I would be at somebody's HBCU. |

CT4 I had the SAME problem!! I had to listen to it on my home stereo. Do you know what? If you look at the back of the CD cover, there's a message saying that it's "copy protected" and that it only plays in standard CD players, etc. I didn't understand that b/c what is so different about a car cd player? Anyway, I listened to the cd all the way through at home and I took that thing back b/c I was mad I couldn't play it in the car. I mean, if I can't play it in the car, what's the point? I took it back and they ALMOST didn't want to take it back (b/c it was opened) even though I pointed out the message on the back. Needless to say, I got my money back :) But what's up w/ that though? Has anyone else had problems playing it in their car? |

I thought this was an excellent movie. It is nice to see black folks making good movies that are not about drugs, gangs and babies mamas!

I give BROWN SUGAR two thumbs up. :D I loved this movie! Using hip hop as a metaphor was a good way to show the relationship between the characters. I was LMAO during the restaurant scene and any scene that featured Rin and Tin. I thought the ending of the film was very cute. :)
|
just saw it
I saw it last night and it was hilarious! Yes, the infamous restaurant scene was excellent! I didn't expect this movie to be so funny! I definitely want to buy this when it comes out on dvd.
Oh and can I just say that Boris was looking MMM MMM MMMM MMMM MMMM GOOD!! :D :D :D |
Thanks for the word
I need to make time to see this. It does sound refreshing. I'd looove, however, to see a similar movie made for us old folks.
;) |

******EDITED: All they have to do is make BeBe's By Golly Wow by Soror Yolanda Joe into a movie and that is more to the "old folks' liking". |
I enjoyed the movie as well. It didn't start out any way like I thought that it would. The restaurant scene was a straight up hoot!! Now y'all know I don't like boris Kodjoe with that bald head, but DAYUM....he was looking to damn good with it in the movie.
Ok, again , the restaurant scene was something else. The hip hop dalmations, need I say anymore. The band movie I remember reading about it in some magazine maybe last year or the year before, I am glad to see that it is finally making it to the big screen. I'm going to see one and that Antwon Fisher movie with my man Denzel (even though I wasn't feeling the mustache) but anything with Denzel, and he is directing, yes I have to support. :D |
I saw this movie last night and absolutley loved it. I went in expecting a Love and Basketball duplicate but with a hip hop twist...boy was I wrong, it was better. The chemistry between all the character was great. I thought Mos Def's shyness towards Queen Latifah's character was so cute. I give Brown Sugar two big thumbs up. I will see it again.
|
"I used to love him, still do, and always will..." Outside of that comparison...I don't think I was feeling the analogies btwn hip hop and love...I like what they were trying to do but I don't think it quite came across that way, at least not to me... |
:D :D :D
I ENJOYED THE MOVIEEEEEE!!!!! For those of us who are Soul Food Fans....wasn't it refreshing to see Boris is still as FIIIINNNNNEEEEE as he wants to be. My Soror was rubbing my arm to calm me down when that man came out...then I started repeating "I Love My Man...." Hip-Hop....boy that took me back. I remembered how I felt the first time I heard Kurtis Blow and These are the breaks...Doug E Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew, Slick Rick the Ruler and all the others. Okay so what goes on with D-a-l-m---you know how to spell it! ;) I was cracking up! I especially enjoyed: the beginning, the middle and the end! I would like to see it again and this is a MUST HAVE on DVD! |

But I've seen MUCH worse so I'm not complaining...like I said I'll buy it when it comes out. ;) |
What I liked, appreciated, respected was that there was NO NUDITY in this movie. :D
But that still don't mean ol girl shoulda bought her 7 year old to the movie. Come alone like I did and sit near me but NOT next to me. |

Lemme break it down fo ya... Hip Hop = Love When the 2 characters were first introduced to hip hop, they were first introduced to love. Being that they both had a love for hip hop, they had an unknown love for each other. Real Hip Hop was represented by the relationship between Sidney and (Taye). This is why Mos Def was in the movie. He is one of a handful of known artists who are trying to bring back the real Hip Hop. Bull**** Rap was represented by the relationship between Sidney and that Boris dude; and Taye and his wife. This explains the Hip Hop Dalmations. The whole point of the movie was Taye was trying to bring back the feeling (love) that he got when he first heard hip hop(= the love of his life;= Sidney) a.k.a "The perfect rhyme over a tight beat" Both characters were in relatonships that they weren't really feeling( Bull****;= Dalmations). Their true love lied within each other (Real Hip Hop;= Mos Def). The whole movie correlates to the history of Hip Hop being that in the beginning it was inspiring, fresh, and new. Now it has progressed to a lot of Bull****! The real Hip Hop needs to be brought back and recognized worldwide once again. But that will never happen as long as the Hip Hop Dalmations keep getting record deals and constant exposure while the true MC's are driving cabs. |

Man, I LOVED this movie! I finally had a chance to see it over the weekend and I was pleasantly surprised. As someone else said, I was expecting Love & Basketball Part II, but it was totally different. Now, I'm not a Taye fan, but GOOD LORD! He was delectable in this movie and quite funny to boot. I also loved the comparison of hip hop and love (real v. fake), as Big Chill so eloquently broke down. So, I give this movie an enthusiastic two thumbs up.

For those of us "bootleg inclined"..
If you guys plan on bootlegging this CD, all I have to say is good luck..
I downloaded all of the tracks off of the soundtrack and 1/2 of them came with this clearly audible CD Protect Voice in the background that said.. "Property of MCA Records".. So.. don't get caught with your hand in the cookie jar. Needless to say, I tossed the CD.. I mean.. having that CD Protect Voice in the background every 30 seconds on the minute of each track isn't what I would like to call your ideal soundtrack listening experience. |

I could not even "copy" or play the CD in my my CD Rom @ home . . .I hope this trend does not increase because I just like to have 2 copies of all my music to keep CDs in the car and the copies on my computer for the jukebox. |

|
just bought this and My Big Fat Greek Wedding @ Hollywood Video under the 2 for $25 sale. They also had Barbershop on the 2 for $25 table.
