Kamala Harris: DIVINE NINE in the news
The Divine Nine must be very happy this afternoon since AKA sister Kamala Harris has been named Joe Biden’s VP running mate. MSNBC anchor Brian Williams mentioned her membership and the fierce support of her sisters and then Congressman Clyburn from SC brought up the coast-to-coast support she will receive from all of the Divine Nine.
It’s exciting to see Greek organizations mentioned in a positive light on national TV! |
Congratulations to the sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha with this historic news today.
|
So exciting!!!
|
Congrats to AKA and Kamala!
|
This is awesome news! I hope the Today Show has (fellow AKA) Sheinelle Jones interview Kamala, with one wearing pink and one wearing green!
One of the other women under consideration for the V.P. pick, Keisha Lance Bottoms, is a DST. (When’s the last time a member of a GLO was in the White House? George H.W. Bush? DKE) |

I am delighted with Kamala Harris as our VP pick!

Brooke Baldwin on CNN is interviewing AKA Shirley Jackson Lee and they are discussing at length Alpha Kappa Alpha, their sisters who are leaders in public service and their push for voter registration.
You can feel the pride. |

I believe there are 7 or 8 AKAs in Congress and Senate currently.

Here's an interesting article! Love this well-organized mobilization! |

Last night Kamala Harris was speaking about those who helped shape her in her formative years. Along with her family she gave a huge shout-out to my “Alpha Kappa Alpha” sisters and the “Divine Nine”.
I’ve don’t think I’ve ever heard such a powerful and passionate voice publicly give credit to their Greek membership. It’s really quite wonderful given all the negative press we’re currently receiving. |

AKA sisters donating $19.08 to the Biden-Harris campaign, as Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded in 1908. There have been over 11,000 donations of that amount.

Historic day in America, sending lots of love from SF to our Madame VP.

Congrats to Kamala and AKA!
|
I saw celebrations and dance parties on campuses from coast to coast...a lot of AKA sisters in pink and green dancing and singing in the streets!

BTW...the celebrations were world-wide, not just coast to coast. My friend (ex-pat) in Madrid said people were playing music and dancing on their balconies, friends in France and Switzerland (US natives) said they were breaking out the champagne, several Irish towns were popping champagn bottles in honor of Biden's Irish heritage and I had several sisters in Canada very excited that "America has re-entered the world". I haven't heard from my friend in Seoul and Florence yet but I know part of Itally is on lock-down again but mostly in the Milan to the French border region. |
It was quite an emotional day.
It's reductive to say "I feel proud to be American again" but it's how I feel. And I feel inspired to be more devoted to my party. |

Maher, on Friday had a great descriptor for what he thought Trump would do, i.e., "Gus" the election, which is a reference to a movie in which a football team had a mule as their kicker because the rulebooks had nothing about mules as kickers in them. In other words, if norms aren't codified, just because we have certain traditions of peacefully transferring power, this President won't be inclined to follow them. Gus is my new favorite word. |

Watching the Trump&Friends Organization voice currently unsupported theories regarding voting errors in our recent national election reminds me of the original run of the tv program Lost: you never knew what wild plotline would come next, or what it 'meant' to the complete story, until the show ended its exhausting six year run. So, when will Republicans blame mysterious polar bears in Alaska for Trump's overall election defeat? And FTR, I only ever watched parts of the first and the final episodes of Lost, because its main ending was easy to figure out from carefully viewing its beginning. (end thread hijack) |
I'm not worried about conspiracy theories. I'm worried about the Supreme Court accepting illegitimate political arguments to overturn the will of the people. There are at least five justices who I think could potentially side with one of the cocamamie theories advanced by Guiliani et al.

HAPPY FOUNDERS’ DAY to the sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha! Today on “The View” Sunny Hostin is wearing a pink and green AKA founding date sweatshirt! I’m so happy to see lifetime Greek membership publicly celebrated and a member soon to be inaugurated as our first woman vice-president.
|
Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12, Charlotte area) is an AKA also, and posted a Founder's Day tribute today on Facebook.
|
“CBS This Morning” just did an excellent segment on AKA and how the sisters had worked nationwide to help elect the Biden/Harris ticket. The AKA spokeswoman also gave props to all the other Divine Nine groups who joined them.
On Wed., Jan 20, a bell in a tower on the Howard University campus (Harris’ alma mater and the home of AKA’s founding, will ring 49 times in honor of Harris as the 49th VP! Again, SO NICE, to see positive pieces on Greek membership. |
I saw that, too! I didn't realize the reporter Michelle Miller was a member! (I might have assumed if she went by her married name, Morial, as her husband is a well known Alpha)
|
Nice to see KH wearing Purple today (red + blue = purple) and Pearls in a nod to AKA.
So will all the Sigma Kappas start wearing life-sized dove brooches a la Lady Gaga? |
