2020/2021 New Chapters/Expansions/Charters/Closures
 

Right off the bat, this is going to be an interesting year. Many new colonizations that were planned have been delayed.

As members of Greek organizations, we all want to see Greek Life expand, grow, and succeed. As alumni, we should all be giving support to new chapters. We should cheer and support Greek organizations that are not our own.

This year we have all heard "We'll get through this together." As Greek members, let's truly believe and hold this statement true.

I heard that Villanova is open for NPC expansion for Spring 2021. I'd think that may change because of COVID, but its out there.

That could be interesting. They have several orgs that could recolonize or bring a new one. The last sorority to come to that campus was Alpha Gamma Delta in 2013.

DU is recolonizing at Purdue this fall, it looks like Delaware and Nevada are on hold due to Covid.

A casualty of the Abolish Greek Life movement - per NPC Chair Carole Jones - Gamma Phi Beta at Northwestern has voted to return their charter.

Do some GLOs just let the current members turn in a charter? It seems like the national IHQs would have something to say about that.

I agree Carnation! But there does seem to be some type of autonomy available.

Haven't struggling chapters sometimes done this?

I only know of 2 who intentionally disaffiliated without something like low membership, risk management, etc.

1. Kappa Delta Sigma, who did after they weren't permitted to pledge a minority student back in the 60's

2. Sigma Delta (which was actually a Sigma Kappa), at Darthmouth, which I found out about in a New York Times article that actually hosts parties in their house as they are local.

The Kappa Delta chapter at Texas A&M Commerce has been deemed dormant by Nationals and all currently active members have been moved to alumnae status.

Isn’t there a window of time where the GLO can recolonize? I mean, I would think that GPB could refuse to accept the charter surrender. But if the school’s a hot mess they might be happy to let it happen.

Sometimes they truly do, and sometimes it is worded that way but it really isn’t what is happening (ie you can either turn in your charter or we’ll yank it anyway).

On many occasions you've been corrected and then asked not to post improper information, especially when it is not about your organization. Yet you continue to do so. Your enthusiasm for Greek life is wonderful, but please stop making these kinds of comments. Several people have also asked you to stop. This will likely be the last time someone asks nicely.

Just an FYI - I missed the announcement of the closure of the Quinnipiac chapter when it was made. Also, Pi Beta Phi's international website does not list the chapter as closed, so this was an easy mistake to make.

It's weird since the chapter is no longer listed on Quinnipiac's FSL page or the PHC page.

Kappa Sigma has had their campus recognition rescinded by the University of North Florida. The cause is due to connections to sexual assault allegation.

Gamma Phi Beta International Council has chosen to suspend the charter at Northwestern University(IL) in lieu of closing the chapter.

"When Gamma Phi Beta returns to Northwestern, it will be as an organization who has done and will continue to do the work at all levels for equity and inclusion. AOII has closed our chapter at TCU due to low numbers.

Oh wow. That was fast. So sad.

I sat next to a collegian from TCU on a flight from Dallas last year. She said the campus was very materialistic and status consious. Sounds like SMU and UT.

Isn’t TCU near the end of recruitment? Did the AOII close before it started or during? It’s SUCH a shame when a campus culture is such that unless you come from THIS TOWN and went to THIS SCHOOL and wear THIS DESIGNER then you’re somehow not worthy.

Isn't TCU in the middle of recruitment right now? I think they're between 2nd and 3rd Rounds? I had a Rec Girl pledge that chapter a few years ago - that makes me really sad. :(

Yeah I was about to say it's heartbreaking that the chapter got this news in the middle of recruitment. Also looking at the irishpipes thread the chapter is relatively new too.

DU expansions
 

The DU Quarterly was just published. DU is expanding to University of Nevada , University of Delaware and Purdue University in the Spring of 2021 and The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Washington State University and Texas Tech University in the Fall of 2021.

The Zeta Chi Chapter of Delta Gamma at the University of Delaware has closed as of the end of the Spring Semester of 2020.

Announced five days ago via the Delta Gamma official Instagram, the notice of closure was delayed due to COVID-19.
