Mixer theme: WEDDING!!!!!! Always a blast.

We had something like a crush party too, only it was a blind date party. Some were good...some were very very scary!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

DGPhoney 04-24-2001 11:18 PM

oh wow, we have never done a wedding theme, I'll have to keep that in mind for next yr, sure sounds like fun though. Oh and yes the crush/bind party thing can be a lil scarry sometimes

the most fun mixer/social i've been to this year was totally impromptu - our social chair put an Ad in the school news paper that morning that said something like "DZ Girls: Get A Date by 8 and meet at Vitos (a bar here)" It's so much fun b/c everyones scampering around for a last minute date and going crazy with what to wear - but when we finally got ther e- it was sooo much fun http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Iowahawkeye, and Congrats to you as well. Hey that sounds like a great event, sometimes, the spur of the moment ones are always the coolest.
ok, silly question, does anyone know how to do the moving eye faces , instead of some of the other smiley faces?
Thanks]

The best mixer I ever went to was a "Toga/Graffiti" mixer. Everyone wore togas and wrote on everyone else's toga. I actually found the toga I wore in a box in my mom's attic last year and it brought back some great memories! :-)

I always liked the graffiti mixers because it was so funny to go home and read what everyone had written on you. Plus, you also had a little momento of that mixer and the people you met (not that I'd ever wear the shirts out http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif )

Oh, and DGPhoney, when you post a message, there is a smilies legend to the left...click that and there are all the faces you can make. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif Have fun with them. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

i was searching the greek memorabilia on e-bay and i saw this shirt and i thought it looked like sooo much fun! it sounds like it might combine the toga party with the graffiti theme!

Funny story a yr back a fraternity friend of mine were all at a toga mixer, and his toga wasn't tied on properly, so he lost his toga, but he had on other clothes. More of the story boys and girls, always tie your toga tight http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

My favorite was the "Color Me Happy" fingerpainting social we had with the Kappa Sigs. It was my first social as a pledge. Lots of fun. We had long-sleeved white t-shirts on with "Color Me Happy" printed across the back, and "DZ/Kappa Sig Fingerpainting Social" and the date printed on the front left breast (where a pocket would normally go). We used fingerpaints to decorate each other's shirts, and then went to the house to change and let them dry while we went back for the party portion of the social. It was great! and I still have that shirt!

zete_boy 04-26-2001 04:50 PM

We had two cool mixers:
One sorority on campus has an anual tye dye party, where you make your own tye dye clothing, our fraternity all went in tye dye togas, what a blast.

the other is one from my fraternity, our Irish Wake party, we select one brother, who does one amazingly stupid event in the year, and he is our corpse, we dress him all up pretty in a tux, get him all drunk, while he is drunk he writes his last will and testement, then we take him to the party at the house, and put him in a makeshift box, until 12am where he rises from the dead (passing out) and reads his last will and testement. lots of fun, this one was passed down from alumni, yeah could be trouble causing, but we havn't had incendent yet, we have so many boys around we make sure they are ok.

Your Irish Wake Party reminds me a lot of the SAE "Paddy Murphy" party that they would have every spring when I was in college. It was always a blast! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif

Our chapter has done the following mixer/exchange themes:

Pajama-jam
Lua
Spagehttii Fests
Toga
Graffiti exchange

We also gone ice skating and roller skating with sororities. These mixers include a few ice breaks and games.

Well, we had a "one piece of clothing" social once that obviously got a little out of hand and we do a Jimmy Buffet bash almost every year. I like the graffiti socials best though.

DGPhoney 05-04-2001 10:19 PM

oh heres one don't remeber if it's mentioned yet, I truly love grab a date activities, they are really fun, just the fact of running finding a date for a surprise activitiy is alot of fun http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I have so many favorites that it's so hard to choose. I love SAE's Paddy Murphy and Sigma Chi's Italian Wedding. Those are some great date functions. My favorite social is called Marriage/Divorce. We use to have this one back in the days when the sororities were still allowed to drink at the fraternity houses. All the girls and guys wore these string necklaces with a paper ring attached to it that had their name. You go around meeting all the girls/guys. Then, you get married to them. You trade rings and then take a shot. Once you get sick of them, you get a divorce and trade back the rings. Take another shot. It was a great way to meet people.

aphistyle 05-14-2001 09:44 PM

My favorite mixer, personally I LOVE Grafitti mixers because the next morning I like to see what people wrote, but another one we had that was real fun was "Pimps/Hos". I just got social chair next semester and I want to do a really good job, so I will be looking forward to checkingout your ideas.

RedHotChiO 05-24-2001 05:51 AM

I wanted to share a cheesy theme that we had in our chapter. We had a Chi-O-T Ugly mixer. I thought that was stretching it.

PinkRose1098 05-24-2001 07:50 PM

My favorite mixer we had during my pledge period was a shaving cream fight with Delta Chi. We all got really messy and made lots of friends.

BrianMUDU 06-01-2001 05:11 PM

The biggest/most important date party we have is called Indian. It is actually the oldest date party on the campus of Miami University, founded in 1949, so that is another reason it is so important to us.

It is a week long event. Throughout the week we have grab-a-dates or do something with a sorority. Then on Saturday night we have our date party at the house, which has a 3-story teepee in front of it. Take a look at a picture of it at the link below, it takes FOREVER to get up, but it's worth it!
http://www.dlugosz.net/%7Emudeltau/p...ian/teepee.jpg

DGPhoney 06-01-2001 06:37 PM

Hey brianmudu,
thats an awesome Teepee. sounds like a lot of fun*
DGPhoney~

BrianMUDU 06-01-2001 10:19 PM

Yes, it's a good time. Although the teepee is folded up and kept in our laundry room the entire year, so you can imagine the stale smell it has when it is unfolded http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif You can seriously smell it from down the street, but oh well...

Emilitab 07-03-2001 10:22 PM

Around Valentines Day last year, we had an exchange with a fraternity. At first, we each had a piece of a heart and we had to find the other half. Then, we were handcuffed to the guy with the other piece of the heart while we made Valentines for Children's Hospital. After that, we just had a social mixer. Great fun.

AOPIHottie 07-07-2001 07:45 PM

Date Dash Scavenger Hunt! We had 2 hours to get 5 guys from a frat and follow the scavenger hunt. The worst(funniest) part was the frat my car had, they had a meeting and couldnt leave! So we had to scrounge up various guys from 2 other frats to come with us. It was so much fun, but we were last! owell!!

Dianne 07-10-2001 07:50 PM

My fave is always the '70s mixer we have every year. I am a huge disco fan, and it's so fun to see the outfits that people bust out with. And going shopping with your sisters at the thrift store is a huge bonding experience. This year we had our '70's mixer with some of the BGLOs on campus, and it was the best mixer we ever had! They all do synchronized dances and were teaching all the rhythmically impaired white kids. It was a blast!

Another one I heard about that would work for a fraternity house party is "Anything But A Cup." You have to bring something to the party to drink out of that's not a cup.

By far, the best mixers we had were "anything for money" mixers. Yeah, they get out of hand, but I've won two so I can tell you they are fun! ;)

Also, we do the marriage mixer too...guys bring a tie or girls bring an earring, and then when the other group arrives, they pick a tie or an earring and then that's their wife/husband. There are a lot of rules with regards to separation and divorce and remarrying...but it's tons of fun!:D

Steenie 11-25-2001 02:10 AM

Hi everyone, i think the best social that we have ever had was the REVERSE pimps and hoes social. All the girls dressed like pimps and all the guys dressed like hoes!!! I have never laughed so hard when i saw all the Delt Sigs walk up in mini skirts, halter tops and make-up. I was very suprised to see that everyone really got into the social. Very Very Very fun!!!! I definately recomend it!!!

My favorite was easily the Halloween masquerade we threw. I couldn't even really tell which brother was which, and it was even harder to tell with the women. But, i gotta say, some freaky stuff went on, nothing approaching eyes wide shut, but its real easy to get touchy with someone when you both have no clue who each other is, even easier when you might never find out who it is.

i like the crush parties too but another good event was the snowball war event. It was pretty much the fraternity vs. a sorority, it was a different one every year, and right there one campus was an hour long all out snowball assault. When you're hit 5 times you're out and the last person standing wins it for either the fraternity or sorority. The loser gets to choose the prize, and all members of the losing team have to agree. We had some pretty twisted stuff requested, nothing outlandish, but some brothers were embarrassed beyond recognition. Ever clean a kitchen floor with a toothbrush before? Nahh, didn't think so...Definetly a fun time though, and major relationship buliding between chapters.

moobytwin 12-14-2001 12:32 AM

:D One of my favorite mixer themes other then the grafitti party that eeryone seems to mention is an "eat me- lay me" mixer. It is where the guys have hawaiian laies around there necks and the irls have candy necklaces around there's. When the guy eats off the last prt of a girls candy necklace then he gives her his lei. It is always a lot of fun especially toward the end of the night. It is also real good if you are doing it with a fraternity or sorority that you don't know all too well. It gets people talking so that they don't feel so awkward basically kissing the irls neck;)

madstop1339 01-26-2002 06:25 PM

There's a couple that I remember that are a lot of fun...Tie functions are great, what happens is each guy brings a tie and throws it in a bag or a box, then each girl picks a tie out of the box and gets tied to that guy for the night (wrist to wrist). You have to stay together as long as you can, the last couple to be tied together wins. Another one of my favorites is a money function - the fraternity or sorority hosting it makes up a bunch of fake money (or just use monopoly money) and each person gets a specific amount when they show up, and the person with the most money at the end of the night wins. You get money by having people pay you to do stuff, it gets pretty crazy sometimes!

SAEguy 02-03-2002 09:37 AM

PADDY MURPHY! A week long blast, everyone always looks forward to it! Also I havent yet participated, but friends have told me how much fun the grafitti parties are. I dont know so far this year we have had a few TGIT's (thank god its thursday-big party night at KU) with a couple sororities but they dont seem much fun, not as much interaction as there should be. I def. think themes help out!

SparkliiQTMTSU 03-01-2002 01:27 PM

Ok well we never got a chance to do this mixer b/c well they canceled it b/c of study hours :( but I know it would have been awesome...it was a Singled out theme you know that old MTV show :) I hope we get to do it sometime though it seemed like soo much fun :)

SigkapAlumWSU 03-02-2002 05:51 PM

I was tossing some ideas around with my social chair and she had one that I've never heard of but it would be a lot of fun. Have a Sigma's (or insert your letter here) Only party. That means that only houses (both fraternities and sororities) with a Sigma (or one of your letters) can come. If we did a Sigma's Only party on our campus, we would be the only sorority, so we thought about a Kappa's Only Party (which would be us and 3 other sororities, and half the fraternities) The only problem is finding a space big enough to do it in. We recently heard of a couple houses having a "We're the Best" social, and apparently it was kept under pretty tight wraps b/c we didn't know about it until some people on campus started wearing shirts... I guess it was a couple of Houses that felt that they were the best and needed to have a mixer with other "best" houses.
Oh, and I had never heard of the "Eat me/Lei me" before, but I love the idea!

AllycatKD 05-30-2002 11:10 AM

socials

I am the social chair for my chapter and I have been looking for new things to do. We have our semesterly crush parties, we actually call them KD kisses or pledge preview. then we have socials like karaoke social, kd lai-which is a beach house party, cruise casino, paintball, ice skating, slip and slide, grab-a-date, get-a-way(we went whitewater rafting in TN), fun in the sun (jet skiing and out door stuff) mystery social (which is always a mystery to the chapter) and country line dancing. But, out with the old and in with the new...give me new ideas!!!

parisviolet 05-30-2002 12:10 PM

My fav is the heaven and hell mixer we had. I also like our marriage mixer.:)

ThetaxiUW 06-04-2002 10:05 AM

Our house usually had a theme called "Loggers Brawl" which we are thankfully bringing back next year. Lumber Jack theme inculding slided on the stairs and stuff like that. However, a couple people have scavenger hunts here and last year they came and were suppose to get the wierdest thing they could. One group of girls we gave a broken door that someone busted down, and another group we gave a broken microwave. Turns out they were form the same house and the microwave won. I'm sure that was a good sisterhood. We also had a Mud Bowl last year involving Alpha Phi. But they couldn't do it again this year after their advisor found out. That sucked. As you can see by the movie here:
Theta Xi - Alpha Phi Mud Bowl 2001

Its a great example of a dry party. Don't recommend a flour based mud though. Chocolate Pudding works well. You should definately get a hot tub as well, but be sure to spray people off thouroughly before getting into the tub.

Just some ideas.

Blaire 06-04-2002 11:16 AM

My favorite Mixer by far was the one we did last fall called "Hey Sister! Pick My Mister!" Each of us paried up with one other sister...we each found a date for the other. (And if you had a b/f, then you would just invite him). Then, we all met in our suite and introduced everyone. After that, we headed to a Haunted House in Nashville called "Slaughterhouse". We had such a good time, screaming and running around like little kids! And, since the majority of the guys were in fraternities, we've made some great friends and connections. (Plus the shirt was really cool!) Then, at this year's greek awards, one of the awards we won was "Most Creative Non-Alcoholic Social". It was just the icing on the cake for us!

My favorite mixers have been Pimp's 'N Ho's and Room's Parties. We are having a Room's Party this Saturday with Lambda Chi...should be a really fun time. My sorority is making Strip 'N Go Naked for our room...yummy :)
