Theta Nu Xi?
Has anyone ever heard of this organization? There's a group of students on my campus trying to start a chapter but they aren't giving much information about it. There's no forum here for it and I couldn't search for it because Nu and Xi are both too short for the search engine.
Is there a chapter of this organization on your campus? What do they do? It sounds like a national org but I'm not sure. |
Although there was no chapter of Theta Nu Xi on my undergrad campus, I got to know an alumna of the sorority pretty well during grad school. It's a multicultural sorority that started in North Carolina and is expanding nationally. They have both social and community-service activities. If the sister I know is at all representative of their members, they must be an amazing group -- she is brilliant, cool, and funny.

their website...
I know someone around here is a member of that org because otherwise I don't think I would have seen their website any other way. You could try looking up the a elsewhere for more info...
Edited to add this url: http://welcome.to/thetanuxi It has quite a good bit of info! greek love, april |
There's a Theta Nu Xi presence on GC
prospectiverushee, a longtime GCer, is a new member of Theta Nu Xi.
|
We have Theta Nu Xi at my school (Georgia State, Zeta Chapter) and they are a great group of ladies. They're still kind of small, they have been here since 2000, but I think they'll do okay.
I think it's a very positive group and I'm happy it's established on a diverse campus such as ours. I wish them a lot of luck! |
We have Theta Nu Xi at our school. I do not know much about them, because I'm new to the Greek system. What I do know is that somehow they are under the Panhel umbrella, yet they do not participate in formal rush. I know that information wasn't very helpful...
The girls that I have met from there all seem to be very hard workers, because they are a small chapter and yet they get a lot accomplished. |
There is a chapter here at FSU as well. They had their recruitment week last month and it went well from what I had heard.
|
Here's our National website address:
www.thetanuxi.org It has the national history and links to individual chapters. lionlove, if the young ladies have any futher questions, feel free to give them my email address and I can direct them to the proper person |
thanks alot everyone. I haven't heard much about them. Mostly there are just signs up advertising that they want to get a group together. I'm not sure what role the national org plays in this yet, whether they're going to colonize from the ground up or if a local group will petition theta nu xi for a charter. As I said, I haven't seen or heard much about them on campus yet.
I checked out their website and it looks great! I wish the girls at my school the best of luck getting started. |
HEY PROSPECTIVE RUSHEE!!
I tried to PM you honey but your box was full!
Could some one please Pm and let me know the answer to a few questions: 1. How many actives does each chapter of Theta have? 2. Is Theta part of Panhellenic or Pan Hellenic or is it different on each campus dependngon the make up of thie girls? 3. Does Theta consider itself a social or service sorority (I know they do service) 4. Does Theta participate in the traditional rush process on any campus or is it an interview style process like the NPHC groups?Or both? 5. YOUR WEBSITES ARE BEAUTIFUL! But I was still curious, what are your colors? symbols etc. i know your mascot is the butterfly-very cool. And I love the ONE Love thing. Love it!When I was thinking of starting my own GLO I thought the butterfly would be perfect. Anyway, thank you!!!!! |

Here are the answer to some of your questions: 1) The number of actives depends on the chapter. Our Nu colony has 3 actives because it was just recently founded. While our Alpha chapter has maybe 10 or 15 actives 2) Theta is neither Panhellenic or Pan-Hellenic. It is a reconginzed student organization and subjected to university and our National Board rules and regulations 3) Theta considers itself a service organization(but that doesn't mean we don't know how to party) :) 5) Our colors are Carolina Blue and Lavender Hope this helps. If you are really interested in starting a chapter at your school, I urge you get in contact with our Director of Expansion. Her email address is on our National Website. Also our National Website is a valuable resource in getting a chapter started at your school |

Theta Nu Xi Sisters:
I just viewed your website and was very impressed with your organization! It's wonderful to see a MCGLO that is truly diverse. There are some MCGLOs that aren't very diverse at all. Best wishes as your sisterhood continues to prosper! :) |
Welcome
I'm so excited! In the last week or so, TNX has just expanded to the University of Houston and the University of Virginia. Welcome my Nu-est sisters!

Actually we dont consider ourselves a service or social organization, though our activities lean more toward the service side. All of our tenets, sisterhood, service, scholarship, leadership, and multiculturalism are all equally important, none of them are worth more then the others. |
Hey sorors!!! Don't forget Rho Colony at Muhlenburg College (near Allentown, Pa.)!!! I was there for it all, it was a beautiful process and they are amazing Theta women. :D

Yep! you never know when a TNX colony will come to your campus!!! :) :)
|
I’m impressed with Theta Nu Xi’s version of “AI” if you will that is listed as “Professional / graduate” membership. Its great to see true muliculturalism within in education and in GLOs :D At this time my alta mater doesn't have a TNX chapter.

housing
I am a little behind times....do these multi-cultural and ethnic
groups have houses or are they small enclaves of select groups of people? |
Re: housing

Nu Alpha Kappa (Latino frat) moved into our old house when we moved to the row, and the multicultural frat has a house in greek circle that was formerly occupied by Beta and Sigma Pi. They say by 2010, all recognized GLOs at SDSU (IFC, Penhel and USFC) will have housing. Imagine 40 houses(?!?!?) |

The greeks'll have a whole part of the campus completely to themselves. Well actually, looking at the map of chapter houses, it seems like they're definitely getting there. |
it's kinda too bad...
back in the late 50s, I was on the road for TKE as a field rep.
I was proud of the fact that TKE could pledge anyone, not have to ask their religion or look at their complexion. Today we have groups all split apart, going every which way. If we'd acted that way...at least in my time...we'd have been tossed off campus, expelled for school, called prejudicial.... What in the hell did we accomplish, anyway? The entire Greek movement has imploded, in a manner of speaking. Too bad. We just shot the eight ball in. |
Erik, everyone just goes with the crowd they fit with. Despite all these cultural GLOs, IFC and Panhellenic are VERY integrated.
|
I just wanted to let you know I think you guys rock! I checked out your site and I ran into preciousjeni in the locals forum and now I'm working on some para. I'm impressed though, you girls give off an excellent vibe! VERY POSITIVE! Congrats!
|
okay...
thanks, Stan; you seem to have a pretty good handle on things.
Was not trying to stir up things, simply still do not understand why IFC's are split, more differences now than 40 yrs ago. But, the torch is passed...again, thanks, Stan |
I don't think you were trying to stir things up. I kind of agree that IFCs are a lot more split up than they used to be. I remember alumni before talking about how IFC would help each other with rush and other all greek activities. Now, EVERYTHING is survival of the fittest.
The underlying perception of the cultural GLOs is still all on who you talk to here, but I do have friends in those houses, and they're just a different type of greek, just like IFC greeks are not the same as NPHC greeks. I also believe we're a very different greek campus compared to more traditional greek life at other school. Perhaps you just haven't seen a campus like ours yet. Whatever though...we're all Greek, and elitism rules! |
You should join
Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. is an amazing sorority. They stand for multiculturalism and that is something very unique. They embrace all cultures. If you are thinking of a sorority, TNX is the best choice. You will never feel awkward around anyone because everyone is different. You will find new friends that become more than sisters--they become family. It will be hard because you must set aside differences, but ahhh I can't begin to tell you what an amazing prize and honor it is to be a part of something so special.
