The list of the sorority women who will compete in Miss America 2020 is at https://www.franbecque.com/sorority-...-state-winners

More state winners will be added as they are chosen throughout the summer. I try to keep the list as complete as possible and welcome updates and help in making sure sorority women are identified and verified.

I thought she said she graduated from the Univ. of Southern Miss. However, she said she is friends with the 1st runner-up who is a Kappa from Ole Miss. I haven't seen any articles though, so I could be mistaken.

ladybug12 06-23-2019 06:25 PM

She lives in Hattiesburg, MS which is home of Southern Miss, but she attended Ole Miss like both of her parents. Her mother is also a Phi Mu from Ole Miss.

MSKKG 06-23-2019 06:28 PM

Makes sense and explains my confusion! Thanks!

MSKKG 06-29-2019 10:47 PM

Miss SC is a Kappa Kappa Gamma from Clemson!

Miss California Eileen Kim is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity. She is a graduate of Chapman University.

Miss Florida Michaela McLean is a newly graduated Alpha Gamma Delta from the University of Alabama.

Miss Oregon Shivali Kadam is an alumna of Oregon State University’s local science sorority Sigma Delta Omega.

It's always fun to recognize past pageant titleholders when they are on the radio/tv and discover their post-pageant accomplishments.

Last week on the national tv news, I noticed a Dr. Jen Caudle giving facts for a medical story. I immediately recalled she had been Miss Iowa twenty years ago in The Miss America Pageant.

Several past Miss America contestants are/have been recent national news correspondents (Roxana Saberi and Trish Regan come to mind).

This year when Fran posted Lauren Molella as New York's Miss America contestant, I recognized her last name and googled to find she's a niece to Lisa Molella, Miss New York 1989.

And although I don't know her post-pageant accomplishments, in about 2003 Christy May (Miss Mississippi 2000) was seen sitting among the Tonight Show's audience when Jay Leno spoke to a few audience members (but not Christy).

The Miss America Scholarship Pageant awards funds to many deserving young women, and will soon celebrate their 100th anniversary!

Miss Virginia Camille Schrier is a Kappa Delta member from Virginia Tech :-)

^^^ On a related note, Miss SC Morgan Nichols, a KKG, just graduated from the school’s Department of Genetics and Biochemistry. A genetics major, her Miss America platform focuses on STEM studies, especially encouraging young people to pursue careers in the areas of math—and especially—science.

Miss Florida, Michaela McLean, is an Alpha Gam from our chapter at the University of Alabama.

How?

Cheerio 08-14-2019 08:26 PM

If a woman is born in one country but moves to a different country, she can sometimes grow-up to represent her birth country in a beauty contest.

It depends on the individual country's, and the individual pageant's, contest rules.

Miss Universe 1988 was born in Thailand, then moved to the USA, and won Miss Universe as Miss Thailand.

It seems like she's a dual citizen through her Albanian-born mother.

Glad to have a date, finally! Also, the competition will be held at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT, which includes the arena that is home to the WNBA's Connecticut Sun team. I imagine that arena would make a great competition venue.

My parents live about 50 minutes from Mohegan and we've gone to concerts there multiple times. It's not a huge venue but there isn't a bad seat in the house. If only I didn't have a law school final the next day or I would go home to go to it!

Competing for Miss America this year - Miss Arkansas 2019 is Darynne Dahlem, a Tri-Delta from the University of Arkansas.

Wow, that is awesome! Thank you so much for posting. I used to work with her mom, but haven't kept in touch. I knew Fig did modeling and that sort of thing, so this is really cool. Good for her.

Love the list! Would you be able to fix Miss Colorado's listing to read "Gamma Phi Beta" instead of "Gamma Phi"? Perty please? Thanks! :)

Just a few more weeks to go! Right now we have about a 50% chance of getting a Greek woman as Miss America again this year!

Sciencewoman 11-20-2019 08:23 PM

^^^ Second! :)

Miss Colorado's social initiative is Gamma Phi Beta's philanthropic focus: Building Strong Girls! Monica previously worked for the Gamma Phi Beta Foundation and just attended Founders' Day with the Denver Alumnae Chapter. :)

I thought that was pretty neat, and it made me wonder if any of the other NPC member candidates has a platform that aligns with her sorority's philanthropic focus? Or, in past years? Does anyone know?

Cheerio 12-11-2019 08:27 PM

Bumping again, as the (non-televised) preliminary competitions begin with personal interviews on Friday the 13th!

In prior years, contestants were divided into the Mu, Alpha and Sigma groups. This year there are only Mu and Alpha groups, due to time constraints of this year's pageant events and the pageant's new NBC-televised date/location: Thursday December 19 in Connecticut.

Just saw this message. I just fixed it. Sorry for that error. Multi-tasking isn't all it's cracked up to be!

Am I the only one who thinks this event should still take place in September? It's so odd to have it in December.

And please let me know if I've missed or misidentified anyone. Thanks.

Thanks! You always do such a great job and I think we'd be lost without your expertise in GLO history!

Did anyone else think that Miss Alabama has an edge because of her name?
