Recruitment Threads for All 26 Sororities and More!

I'm out of town and bored- my appointment that I came here for isn't for another 8 hours...so I present you, the master list of recruitment stories! Represented at least once are all 26 chapters. Stories come from all eras, schools large and small, southern, northern, east, west, public and private, various eras, writers succinct and verbose. I've tried to pick stories that capture the emotions of the process, from girls who have a happy experience throughout, to ones who face disappointment and heartbreak, but learn to love their group anyway. At the end, I've thrown in some according to era, and then my all time fave. I hope you enjoy!

Yayy! Thanks!

shellylou 03-26-2019 11:15 PM

Thanks for doing this post! Since Theta Phi Alpha only has one story listed, would it be possible to add the story I submitted in the fall 2017...I listed it under sorority recruitment (I think) instead of recruitment stories. I'm the author (Shellylou) so maybe it can easily be found that way. Thanks again!

Wait... what? Confused:why do you want TPA to get two stories? Every other NPC sorority has one story. NB: I didn't look at what sororities were represented in Part II. Disappointed that *winter* doesn't think Chuck Norris is the greatest recruitment story of all time. Oh well, it's her thread, her choices :D And I will concede that her "greatest" pick is pretty outstanding.

*winter* 03-27-2019 04:04 AM

Everyone can feel free to add to the thread! I think it's too late to edit my posts at this point.

Didn't notice that someone posted mine in here. Thanks! I have been a Sigma for fifteen years this year. Also crazy, this summer will mark my 4th Convention.

:) I'm hitting 15 years on April 12th. It's crazy to think about.
When thinking about my initiation, it feels like it was yesterday.

I liked your story because it was different. I tried to use a variety of stories. PS My friend's daughter is a Tri Sigma active (sophomore) and she loves it!

chi-o_cat 03-29-2019 08:19 AM

I know that the general consensus on the infamous “pink sequin” story was that it was completely fabricated, or at the least, so heavily embellished (with sequins?) as to basically be fiction, but I was always sorry she never finished the story. My personal theory is that the OP started off just changing a few details for the sake of privacy, as people do, but it sort of went off the rails somewhere along the way. I, for one, was dying to find out what the deal with “Cowgirl Callie” was.

I agree. Having not been on GC when this was originally posted, I read this thread touted as a crowd favorite. After investing hours, to find that it was left unfinished, I am very disappointed we will never know what happened to these fictional characters.

carnation 03-29-2019 09:46 AM

The OP started threatening people and was also found to have posted other threads under made-up names.

Shellfish 03-29-2019 12:11 PM

Some threads that were never finished, a couple of them even after they were rather elaborately set up:

This is the unfinished one I always wondered about: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ghlight=Orange

I also got really involved in that damned Pokémon one! She was a really good writer. There's one more that slips my mind, where I was on the edge of my seat and it was unfinished and I was like, nooooooooo!

I know the schools are Transylvania University and the University of Kentucky, but does anyone know where she pledged? Some of the comments after she stopped posting seem to indicate they knew. (I think I’m a Lime.)

*winter* 03-30-2019 04:13 PM

IDK...but I can count on one hand the number of threads where I know the school, and that was one of them!

According to her user profile, she's a Kappa Delta. Pretty sure she pledged at Kentucky. And she hasn't been on GC since she started this thread and made her last post in her thread.

It was all the unfinished threads like that one that got me to swear off posting on recruitment threads of any kind (retro, current, just finished, etc). Whatever (paired with a sigh and eye roll and a bit of a frown).

GUYS REMEMBER WHEN THAT GIRL POSTED 2 REALLY WEIRD STORIES THEN I GOT YELLED AT FOR SCARING HER OFF AND SAYING HER STORY WAS FAKE? Then she came out and said the story was fake and then everyone was still mad about me scaring the fake story girl?

You mean this one? It literally has it all. :D The outing is spectacular. http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=104394

33girl 04-03-2019 08:53 PM

The best part about that one was where she was telling NPC groups it was okay fine to have margaritas during rush. The only excuse for that is she just emerged from a time machine.

shellylou 04-03-2019 11:20 PM

I apologize for my Theta Phi 2 story request. I assumed your thread took the reader to all the recruitment stories for each group. I had posted my story (my youngest daughter's recruitment) under the wrong thread so I figured if you meant to post all our stories by the propet recruitment thread heading it would be missed. Again, thanks for posting!

*winter* 04-04-2019 04:24 AM

That's the thread where she comes on to defend herself...under her "other" user name (who, if I'm not mistaken, also has a BS recruitment story in progress?)

Epic. Fail.

Yes. That one. Red flags I got from the start:

1. The campus supposedly had 15 NPCs and like 4 locals who all participate in recruitment. Right.

2. There are margaritas at recruitment. Sure.

3. Round 1 supposedly took like 4 days. Weird.

KSUViolet06 04-04-2019 03:58 PM

The other thread she had going same time under username blondie20:

http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=105183

Here are two great "second time around" stories:

http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=211000

http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...light=Brownies

The second one is one of my all time favorites!

ComradesTrue 04-05-2019 06:26 PM

awww, thanks winter for linking my Theta retro story! What a surprise! I can't believe that happened over 25 years ago and I wrote it over 11 years ago. Fun reading back through.

Count me among them! I agree with your analysis - but I needed to know the details of a wrap up!

And thank you for including my own Rush Thread!

I must have missed that one.

It's not unusual to have locals participate in NPC FR. My local did so for one year. We just had to agree to the same rules NPC chapter members had to obey, e.g. no contact outside parties. By the following year, we'd affiliated with AEPhi.

Round 1 taking 4 days is not something I've ever heard of. As I recall, even at campuses where most NPC GLOs are represented (I'm thinking IU), first round is spread out over maybe 3 days?

As for the margaritas, unless they're virgin margaritas, HUGE infraction. And a virgin margarita would be what - limeade and margarita mix? I'd rather have just limeade, or water.

33girl 04-09-2019 12:25 AM

It wasn’t the locals part, it was that the numbers didn’t add up. No one could think of a campus with as many NPC groups that she said there were, with the number of locals there. Same with the days of rounds.

ETA: when she first mentioned that, there were 13 nationals and one local. Then I said I couldn’t think of any school with those numbers and she said “oh there’s more than one local, I just didn’t point that out.” It made no sense.

Wow, me too! What a treat to read!!! I would love to know her campus.

Thanks for bringing this story back to us winter!

What a truly wonderful story. I rushed just 8 years later at the University of Tennessee. It really was a 180 degree difference. We, at that time, had suites in the Panhellenic building. I don't know that anyone had recs. I certainly didn't. I received a bid to my first choice and was so happy during my college years.

I have enjoyed reading these stories....mine was kinda boring!
