LET's HEAR SOME STORIES :

Hey fellow greeks out there... I'm at work (and kinda bored) so I figured that I'd start a thread dealing with Fraternity / Sorority Weekends... for example : I'm in a sorority, and I went to Lambda Chi's Mountain Weekend... ya following? Anyway, I just want to hear some crazy/funny/ fun/ horrible.. etc stories that happened while you were away. I guess since I started this, I'll describe a few of mine. I'm an Alpha Chi Omega at Clemson, and a Junior, so I've been to a few of these:

Freshman Year
LCA Mountain Weekend - mountains of NC
- My very first fraternity function... and it was a WHOLE weekend... but it was a blast. The way that I got a date was my ( blood ) brother stood up in his chapter and said, "Who wants to take my sister?", so Keith raised his hand, then he goes, "Who wants to take her roommate?". The reason that everyone knew I was drunk, was cause I ran up to everyone to feel my face, cause it felt like it was burning up (from the outside)
DC Formal - Hilton Head, SC
- nothing big happened here, cept we were on a Golf Course, and decided to go play at 4am... bad idea...
LCA Formal - on a Riverboat in NC
- we got kicked out of the hotel the first night, and that hotel called every hotel for 10 exits in either direction to not admit us... but it was their own fault for putting us a opposite ends of the damn hotel. They KNEW we were a group.
Sophomore Year
LCA Mountain Weekend - mountains of NC
- First of all, I had a date before my brother did (and he's in the fraternity, lol). Then someone caught on fire from standing too close to the bonfire (it was cold), and lastly.. i took a lil nap and my date came to wake me up.. and in a drunken stupor, I called him the wrong name... (NOT GOOD) Him and I are still friends now, so it's all good.
SP Cabin Weekend - Gatlinburg, TN
- Pretty calm, but the Villas were too far apart to wander back and forth.
Junior Year
LCA Mountain Weekend - Flat Rock, NC
- I just got back from this 2 weekends ago... MAN that was fun. We went skinny dipping on friday, er... um, i mean.. oops. Anyway, I was the first girl at the beer truck on saturday, and I was the LAST girl standing at 4am... however, I did find at least 25 bruises on my body that sunday... only one of which I knew what it was from. Oh well.
ALMOST PKA Mountain Weekend - same place as LCA's
- almost went this past friday, but Pike are now in trouble on campus .. IFC is cracking down.. don't get me started... i'm pissed...

- I'm going in afew weeks with one of buddies, Drew. I'll let you know if anything happens.

Ok, enough of my rambling.. Sorry to bore you. I wanna hear some crazy stories!!!

Those sound like great fun! I've never been to anything like that........does the chapter pay for everything, or is there an admission fee?

I don't know how it is at axotiger's school but at mine, when sororities had events they were paid for entirely by the sorority social budget (no assessing allowed)! But when fraternities had formals or weekend trips, the boys often paid up to $300/event for themselves and a date.

While I somehow feel that I should give you a stern warning about public drunkeness, I am in total awe with this part of the quote!

Well, the only reason they kicked us out (ok well not the only) was because we were wandering all around the hotel because peoples rooms were so spread out... and we were loud. I mean when 60 + guys (plus their dates) go to a hotel together, they are going to want to see each other... so we were wandering around trying to find one another.

The next morning we were all getting ready to go to one of the brothers lake houses for hte day when we were told that we had to pack up and get out.

I mean it wasn't even like a nice hotel. It was a motel, 2 floors, doors to the outside. Man, we weren't even running around halls. The guys above us were truckers who were drinking outside too, (and trying to hit on us girls, which was a little scary).

- For the fraternities, the individual guys pay for these things. LCA's Mountain Weekend is in a camp in the woods, very low budget but fun... and it's like $150 or less for them and their date. But formals are more expensive.
- For sororities, we don't have weekend excursions like this, our formals and date parties are one night, and we take a bus to the place. But some girls get together and rent out cabins or hang out for the weekend, then come back for the formal, then go back to the mountains... and we pay for these too.

Thanks a lot for the response, it all sounds so cool. I see now why alumni support is so strong for NPC/IFC organizations. It is not only an emotional and time investment, but somewhat of a financial one, too.

I don't get it... no one here has done anything fun, crazy, OR stupid? Hell, I've enough stories that I could write a book... maybe even a sequel or two!!
- One of my best friends (different sorority than i) were at a Mountain Weekend last year and she went skinny dipping with a bunch of people (i didnt go, i was too cold to remove a layer of clothing... hell i was ALMOST too cold to shower the next morming) anyway... one of the guys landed on her in the water and she woke up the next morning with a broken collar bone!!
She went to the hospital, got some percacet and CAME BACK :)

So I know someone who was so drunk he peed on himself at their chapter retreat!

I know because I saw the pictures.

One ex-brother grabbed another ex-brother in a chokehold at a retreat, he went insane in the membrane.

I do have a second story to tell, but I think dardenr will kill me if I told it. ;)

Well no mountains anywhere near Oklahoma... None worth going to anyway. We had our last brotherhood retreat at Lake Texoma. I didn't go because I couldn't get the weekend off from work. I know that they did ropes course stuff there... Played lots of football.. Swam in the lake.. etc.

That's what you do on retreat? Man, I saw pictures from my brother retreat a few years back and they were all standing (or holding onto each other for support) around a bonfire, with beer in hand and getting rowdy!!

But anyway, have you had at formals or whatnot. The only reason we have Mountain Weekend is cause we're in South Carolina, and we are in driving distance to Charleston, NC, TN.. etc. So it's all good!!

My first formal, we were at a kinda nice hotel, all drinking in our rooms, when there's this knock on the door. 2 security guards bust in and ask to see everyone's ID (I'm 19 btw). So I say, "it's in my room, I'll be right back" and ran down the hall and hid for an hour...

I've been nearly written up by the same security guard (on campus) about 3 times... each time I'm like.. oh i dont have my ID on me (im 19 too) .. so he lectures me about that. THen he goes, I'lllet you off this time. but I always remember a face...

haha....we dont' do fraternity trips like the mountain excursions and such. Some guys do plan formals in New York City and the Poconos.....I agree axotiger....I could also write a book. Some of the shit that my sisters and I have done is pretty embarassing. But at least we'll never forget it!!!

funny stories y'all have on here...wish I had some to add but im new to the whole greek system...hopefully Ill get to go to some of those frat weekends...

Yeah... just wait, they're fun :D Actually, I went to another date thingy last weekend... or maybe 2 weekends ago. It was a Pi Kap 'Pit Stop' party. The pledges drive around 5 teams of brothers and dates. And there were 7 stops, with different alcohol at each, and you had to drink all of that before you went to the next stop. It was crazy, we got 2nd!!

Well, I have done plenty of fun, crazy AND stupid things. Unfortunately, none of them have occurred at a fraternity/sorority getaway weekend. ;)

Well, since that subject of the thread didn't work out well, share your stories!! I want to make sure that my friends and I aren't the only retarded people out there.... :D

I'm going to my first mountain weekend this weekend, with Sigma Chi. I did a search because I need some cool cooler ideas. Here's a little more of an explanation of what happens:

-Boy asks girl, then they stay together in some sort of lodge/whatever the fraternity decides with a bunch of the other brothers.
-Girl paints a kick@$$ cooler for the boy, and fills it with all sorts of "treats" (use your imagination... what goes in a cooler?!)
-Girl gets to schmooze with other girls and their dates and have just a weekend-long party!

Unfortunately, I can't go the whole time, I have to come back early, and I'm very saddened...

Alpha Chi, what exactly did you fill your cooler with, and did you see any abnormally cool coolers? I'm trying to get some ideas together. And, no, you're not weird. We all do it across SC. I think we need to spread our ideas across the country. I've been to beach weekend before, but never mountain weekend, so I'm SOOO excited! Plus, I actually like the guy, wheras beach weekend I went with a blind date, so it was really akward.

Hey girl.. THANX! Actually, I just got back from a Mountain Weekend with Pi Kappa Phi... we went to Georgia and stayed somewhere in Dehlun... uh, I forget. :D Anyway...

In cooler: bottle of liquor, some beer (it's different for each one, for Lambda Chi's, they had a beer truck with like 18 or so kegs, for Pi Kap you brought all your own stuff), being a jug of water ( for hangovers ), soda to mix with liquor, I brought some granola bars for breakfast if you're up early enough. Then for food, pretzles, doritos, tostitos, cheese dip, salsa, some type of sweet.. aka cookie (i made my date his favortie... u don't need to go that far)... hmmm oh don't forget shot glasses ;). I think that's all I had in there.

Cool Cooler Ideas: Draw their symbol, their name, the fraternity, the date, the function. Or, on the top decorate it like a Jack Daniels Whiskey label.. and instead of Jack daniel's... write "Sigma Chi", then in stead of tennessee Whiskey, write "Mountain Weekend" and write the date.. it's semi hard to do.. but looks awesome. Or find his favorite liquor, and decorate it that way :)

Oh crap, I almost forgot... decorate cups :D (assuming y'all do that)... get mugs, with tops... it's better. And DON'T write anything on the top (u can around it, just not flat in the midle) I learned the hard way my freshman year when i wrote, AXO on the middle of the top in red , and ended up looking like rudolph (red nose)... haha, apparently I hit my nose to the top of the cup when I drink... luckily my date saw and pointed it out to me before we left

Actually, yes.. Our last retreat was a dry event.

I went to 2 fraternities' away weekends back to back at Virginia Beach. This is what happened at the first away weekend...

After the actual formal, my date and I were hanging out with a bunch of other brothers and their dates in one of their rooms. All of a sudden, one of the brothers ran in and told us to go to another room. One of the brothers was really drunk so his brothers started to mess with him. Then one of them got out a razor and actually shaved one of his eyebrows off! He didn't even know what was happening. When one of the girls told him to look in the mirror, he got really pissed off, and started to go after his brothers. When everyone got him to calm down, he had the girl shave off the other eyebrow. It was the running joke the next morning at breakfast.

OMG that's hilarious (it sucks, but it's funny). Oh man, I just thought of another story from a Mountain weekend last year. A bunch of people went skinny dipping in the lak (which i was definitely not up for... .it was FREEZING. it was so cold that the next day I didn't take a shower til noon because I didn't want to take my clothes off...but people were calling Hillaryand I dirty girls, so we went and showered- we ran around for about 2 hours after that with our hair wet so people would know we finally took a shower) anyway, back to the story. They were all jumping off the dock, and one guy jumped on my friend Kiwi and she broke her collar bone! :eek: She of course didn't realize this til the next morning after she had put clothes on, went to bed, and sobered up. :( But she went to the hosptial and was back that night... on percacet.

Hey, just got back. I only was able to stay for one night, though, so I didn't get any pictures. The house was NIIICE. There were 12 of us together in a four-story house with a jacuzzi and pool table.

For the cooler:
I drew a huge Sigma Chi in greek letters and put the rebel flag in it, and on the other side put the Sigma Chi flag. On the top was his name and mountain weekend '02. Around the entire bottom of the cooler I put mountains. I got a lot of compliments, and he really liked it, so I was happy about that. In it, I just put beer and then bought him a lot of chips and cookies and stuff. And of course I made cups!

Cooler sounds nice, I probably would have put a rebel flag on the ones that I've been to (us going to school in SC and all) but the 1st one this year was from Ohio, and then 2 weekends ago was from Florida, then the one in Feb (that got rescheduled due to circumstances back in Oct) is from Florida as well. And I checked out the florida flag, MAN that would hard to draw, I nixed that real quick. LOL. I think I'm just going to make an absolut bottle and put "Abosult PKA" or somthing like that. But he does like Crown Royal, maybe I could (attempt to) draw that on there. hmmmmmm oh well. :)

Haha, thats funny ... well I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time. Speaking of drunk injuries...

Last years Sigma Pi kickball tournament was held on the intramural fields.. which are near to their hall.. so all the teams went to their hall and had their own coolor or 2 of PJ and stuff.. so wegot shitty, and the daring ones even brought their teams cooler out... so we ALL got drunk. Anyway, by our 4th game or so... I was at 2nd base... and we were tied and this chick was up.. so she kicked the ball in the air to the side of me.. well be the athletic person I am... I dive for it... and I caught it. The bad part was that I was wearing shorts, and it was on gravel/dirt... I got up and the umpire (one of the Sigma Pi's) was like.. um, stevie are u allright? I was like yeah.....

... boy was I wrong. I didnt clean it right away.. i kept playing and if it hurt, I just took a few more shots. Later I had to go to my good friends choir concert so I threw jeans on (i was running late from the tournament) and when I got home.. my leg (right front of my right shin, my left knee, and my right upper thigh) had dried with the blood/rocks in my leg. I tried to clean it... so I had peroxide in one hand, and a handle of Beam in the other. It was swig of Beam... try to clean for 2 seconds. Don't even get me started on the shower..

Worst part was that I was on the sorority dance team... Greek Week... and i had to roll around etc. Never been in so much pain.
It stayed gross (blood, oozing..etc) for about 2 months. I still have a scar on my right shin :D I kinda like it though... it's a good conversation starter at parties lol... and it gives me character.

Ok... u can't just write somthing like that and not let us ask....

Where do y'all go on retreat? This is mainly for South Carolinians... we're trying to get ideas for ours.

um... i forget the name of the place, but it was a Church retreat/camp place... i'll PM you when I get the specifics if you want!! :)

Fraternity getaway weekend
 

Our trip last summer to Lake Mead would have to be my favorite. Brothers paid for everything, girls went free. We pulled an all night drive, ( fueled by no-doze, coffee, Mountain Dew, etc, etc) got to Lake Mead, we had a speedboat, and three full-size houseboats. We had lots of beverages for everyone, alcoholic and non, tons of food, a full-size stereo system, with nonstop music. It was four days of nothing but partying, swimming, more partying, BBQ, laying out in the sun, bonfires at night, even more partying, the works. We had about 60 people there. Bar none, the best trip I've been on in the fraternity-better than all our formals, and we go all out for our formals, too. The last two have been to Steamboat Springs, CO and Jackson, WY. If you have the means, I suggest you go on a trip like that before you leave college.

SigEp had like a retreat to Bass Lake, CA and invited all of us DGs. I didn't go because I had to work but everyone said it was a lot of fun.

we have ski weekends up in michigan. Frats court sororities for it and then you go up north skiing for a weekend. lets just say no one skis on ski weekend ;)
