Tattoos?

I was woundering if any of you have LCA tattoos?

i got one on my right leg last February, its the cross & crescent in gold with green latters cross the horizontal cross bar, and my zeta and number in the bottom of the vertizal bar in purple.

my big has o a lion holding a whit rose on his back. very detail, looks very good.

Tom Earp 10-07-2002 05:20 PM

Billy, first off, I hate NEEDLES! I hurt before they stick them in!

Alot of my guys have them, and several have the Coat of Arms on shoulder! Ouch!

One of the Brothers on GC said he was in a tattoo place with one of my guys and they got tattoos at the same time. Got some swingers behind the zipper Bro!:D

Corbin Dallas 10-07-2002 05:20 PM

I have the C & C with the green shield and letters on it on my right leg. my boss has the letters in a script in purple green and gold on his arm. one bro from my chapter who transferred to Ohio State got the coat of arms minus the banners on his calf. another guy got something similar to yours on his shoulder. another got sort of bubbly letters on his bicep. i've seen other alums from my chapter with tats, one with C&C on his ankle, one with skull and crossbones LCA. if you want to see what that looks like, i'll see if i can find it. it's badass.

jonsagara 10-07-2002 06:13 PM

Many guys from my chapter have the C&C on their ankles, with LCA above or below it (I can't remember which). Unfortunately for one of them, the guy put the template on backward and had already tatooed "ACL." He had to do a hack-job to get it to read LCA. It doesn't look very good. Needless to say, the bro was pissed. :D

Mooch279 10-07-2002 11:26 PM

that sucks, i would be pissed too.

Tom, its not that bad, after a couple minutes you dont feel a thing

;)

thats cool, i didnt relize that so many people had them. alot of younger guys look at mine and are thinking about getting them. but want to be a little more unique, kind hard after hearing what other people have done.

LXA1048 10-08-2002 01:32 PM

I have a small Delta Pi tattoo on my left ankle. It is small and simple, the only way that I would want one done. Although I have been considering getting kalepa ta kala (I can't spell it in english) on my other ankle in purple with a silver outline.

I have the almost identical tattoo on my left ankle (CC and zeta number)...it's now 15 Years old!

Pat_BN557 10-15-2002 11:28 PM

I've been considering getting this done:

http://bn557.servebeer.com/

on my upperback between my shoulder blades.

Pat Erley
BN 557

(to anyone else out there that likes it, if you seriously consider getting it, let me know and I can customize it for you. I plan on having a light gray bacgroiund with calepa ta kala in purple, lambda chi alpha in green, and the delta and pi in gold. Also, I plan on spreading out the letters a bit more)

Mooch279 10-15-2002 11:32 PM

LXAAlum , thats awsome!! i guess great minds think alike.

;)

I have 2:

The letters above the Chinese Iching Hexagram that means "Growing together, holding together" on my right ankle, and a variation of a Celtic Trinity Knot on my right right bicep.

For those of you not familiar with the trinity knot, it's 3 interlaced triangles that form one triangle. In my case, the three individual triangles are Purple, Green and Gold which interlace a Black triangle.

Please excuse picture quality. Trying to perform self portraits with a digital camera while half loaded can be dangerous.

PS - If any of you are bikers, that's my shop. Check it out while you're there.

EM1843 05-09-2003 11:56 AM

Ok...I'm considering getting one and in talking to some bros I came up with this idea...

Cross and Crescent with 2 crossed swords pierceing the skin behind it and reemerging on the other side of the C&C...
If you think about all of that symbolism it's pretty cool...
I have only one problem...I can't draw for poop...can anyone help me out? PM me if you can help out...

pman233 05-09-2003 02:39 PM

EM -

Any tattoo artist worth his ink is a great freehand artist. Take a picture of the C&C, and explain how you would like the swords to look. Everything is done on paper before it is done on skin.

If the artist can't draw, don't let them come near you with a needle, no matter how clean the shop looks.

i wanted to get a tat on my thigh of the c & c with my # in my crescent n my chapter in my cross with secret stuff in uv ink all the way around the tattoo for fun ya know?

Shadowskream459 07-20-2008 02:33 PM

I would be careful about having anything secret added to a Tattoo, unless teh artist is a brother. It isn't hard to put together "Fraternity tattoo + UV ink = secret" y'know?

Sigma1844 07-22-2008 11:30 AM

Book with inscription (XOAZ), bordered by "Nikommen Kata Theon"

??? Is this a TKN thing?

Shadowskream459 07-24-2008 02:54 PM

The tattoo I plan on getting as soon as my "broke-college-student" butt can pay for it is the C&C with the crescent wrapping around the cross (in front of the right arm, behind the bottom), crescent in gold, cross in purple, with a green shield in the middle of it, with my Zeta number in gold, Delta Pi in the crescent in black or purple, and the crossed swords behind it.

I'm gonna put it on my right shoulder-blade and posibly put Kalepa Ta Kala underneath it.

I'm also getting our letters on my ankle soon. I've almost got THAT money saved up. :P

GammaZeta 07-24-2008 05:08 PM

That's a big no-no.

One of the first rules taught to me was: NO DOUBLE LETTERING. Period. Under any situation.

That includes tattoos.

Chase, you might want to make that Chalepa ta Kala (X, not K). :)

Ha, I feel completely retarded now. Thanks.

And on the Double-lettering thing, I've never heard that. Thanks for the heads up. :D

ZAX ya'll.

GammaZeta 07-24-2008 07:01 PM

Double lettering is the act of wearing more than one symbol or article of clothing showing our fraternities letters or symbols that are visible to the general at the same time.

One example would be wearing a LXA hat with a LXA t-shirt.

JConleyWCU 07-24-2008 07:18 PM

2 or 3 of my brothers have the letters on the ankle...

Is there a reason for no double-lettering? I mean besides looking a like a JIB..

Albert109 07-24-2008 08:30 PM

JIB?

Trey_P-I_47 07-24-2008 08:41 PM

I have also hearad about the no double lettering rule. GZ was right, it was one of the first things i was told as well. Although I thought with a tatoo, that if it was not normally visible, it was acceptable. That was also a very good example of how it was explained to me.

I do however think there are some exceptions, or at least one situation that it would be permissable to double letter, and that would be a major fraternity event like GAs, Conclaves, etc. I dont think too many people would point out a Brother who was wearing, his PG&G cumberbund, with his C&C tie, and his LXA monogram tie tac, with those nifty little C&C shirt studs, and wiith his badge on. Somehow i dont think anyone would care for a situation like that, but in normal day to day life, i usually stick to the rule.

GammaZeta 07-24-2008 10:04 PM

I guess double lettering would be the equivalent of wearing face paint, weird foam hat, big foam #1 finger, and jersey of your favorite football team around campus on a normal day.

Promoting LXA is good, but becoming a walking billboard/clothes shop of LXA looks a little out of place.

You also don't want to look like a walking, one man Mardi Gras parade.

Shadowskream459 07-25-2008 12:13 PM

See I've heard of double lettering, but I've never heard of it being a big deal with tattoos. Almost every fraternity member on my campus has two or three fraternity tattoos if they have tattoos at all. Guess it's one of those things that differs from big campuses to small. We aren't a very traditional greek system. Hell our Zeta is approx. 45 members and we're the largest GLO on campus. :P

Yes. The letters expand to that phrase. The theta and nu were switched "for an added layer of secrecy" and it translates (in English) to "Through God we conquer." It would be about infinitely times cooler if we were originally a TKN chapter, but I like it and its consistent with the meaning behind the book.

I, too, have heard of "double-lettering," but we treated it as more of a tact thing rather than a "thou shalt not" kind of deal. Plus, would this even apply to tattoos (I mean, unless you're tattooing your forehead or something blantantly tactless like that)?

Cube TX 07-27-2008 08:17 PM

Tattoos personally aren't my thing, but lots of the guys who were active at the same time I was do have Lambda Chi Alpha tattoos of some sort. My associate brother, Chris, had the cross & crescent on his ankle with the letters in the center. It was actually a really nice-looking one. Another brother, also named Chris, had one that he had originally drawn himself so it looked kind of funny. One of my little brothers, a guy named Jimmy, was a total nutjob and burned the letters into his arm with a wire. The blister and scar eventually spread and became some kind of indistinguishable blob.

I was happy to just wear a shirt.

john1082 07-27-2008 11:10 PM

If I ran the circus I'd ask that the Committee on Emblems & Ritual look at the whole tattoo issue. I'm not in favor of them. And I'd make branding, either giving or getting an expulsion offense.

GammaZeta 07-28-2008 06:30 AM

Brian Setzer's father gave the best advice ever on tattoos:

"Never get a tatto where a judge can see it."

Trey_P-I_47 07-28-2008 09:13 AM

John,

What is so offensive about branding? I know a Brother who has Delta Pi branded on his upper shoulder, and alot of people, including myself, think its pretty cool.

I think if anyone is interested in branding they should do some research on how to do it CORRECTLY, and seriously look into buying a professionally made custom cattle brand. You can find several companies online, and they usually charge less than $100 to make it for you.

We had 3 that we had in mind:
1) Cross and Crescent
2) Delta Pi aligned vertically
3) LXA aligned diagonally

I also think GZs advice is very valid about keeping things like tatoos and branding inconspicuous.

My choice was to have the DP branded on the upper part of my thigh, obvious to noone but myself, but a constant reminder of the oath that i took and the path that i chose.

Also, if anyone is thinking about doing this, I would talk to members of Omega Psi Phi, because they always seem to have good brands, so they must know what they are doing.

robswede 07-28-2008 01:06 PM

I want to get my Z# on my upper arm.. plain black like a prison tat..

Shadowskream459 07-30-2008 03:18 PM

I agree with Trey. I think MAKING someone get branded is an expulsionary offense, but if you want to brand something that means a lot to you onto your body, you're free to do it.

I would brand delta pi onto my body, but I just don't like the idea of being branded. More power to you guys who have teh nuts to brand yourselves.

Tom Earp 07-30-2008 03:40 PM

Soy, but at my elder age, I do not want someone to put a hot poker to any part of my body!

Nor, do I feel a tattoo is something that I feel that I need in my life!

When I or should I say someone sees the C & C, it will be on my tomb stone. It is already in my will!:D

Not many will see it and the few who do will ask, what is that and what does it mean!

I will know whether anyone else does or not!
