Products that you miss

Ever had any favorite products, such as food or drink, that has been taken off the shelf?

*Toasted cheese ravoli, they used to have it at Krieger's and in the grocery store, now they don't have it at neither, and I can't find it anywhere else.

*Durkee's Nacho Cheese Flavored Shoestring Potato Chips!

*SURGE is what got me through high school. That was some good sh*t! I remember it came out when I was a sophomore, they had a WHOLE vending machine with nothing but Surge in it. I noticed after a month it was gone, and I heard rumors that it was removed because it made us too hyper. But, it was extremely good for pulling all nighters and alertness for boring classes.

three2tango 10-04-2002 11:51 PM

Egg Nog. I love the stuff and hate waiting until Christmas for it. MMMMmmmmm. Only about one more month.

Oh and I haven't seen any Big League Chew at the gas station in a while. I guess they don't make it cause they think it will promote tobacco use. Ohhh the good ole days with candy cigarettes and Big League Chew.

The1calledTKE 10-04-2002 11:59 PM

Sun Drop I haven't seen that around in many years.

DeltaSigStan 10-05-2002 12:06 AM

*KFC Chicken Littles (those little sandwiches for like 50 cents loaded with mayo)
*Crystal Pepsi

On a side note, Big League Chew was invented by a Delta Sig, brother James Bouton, former major league baseball layer and author of the controversial book "Ball Four"

There's a store in Chicago called FAO Schweetz that sells Big League Chew, or at least they did my first year at college. I managed to spend some ridiculous amount of money on it and when I got home I realized it was gum and no amount of nostalgia could have been worth that money.

--Plus it's weird just busting that bad boy out at a party instead of a stick of Juicy Fruit.

Fewdfreak 10-05-2002 12:25 AM

Surge! Yes, Dionisys whenever I'd have a paper to write, I'd go buy a twelve pack, and drink it all in like one night. I think the reason that they took it away was because it lost it's appeal after a while, and many people didn't like the taste. Coke wanted to push the Mello Yello, because that is what they filled our machines old Surge slots with at my school. They also took away Citra, though I still see it at some stores. I really liked that, too.

That's what I heard too. But I thought Surge tasted great, better than any other caffinated soda! It tasted like a combo of Tang and Sprite.

12 pack in one night! I can just drink a can of that stuff and completely bounce off the walls. My mom put me out of the house once, for a few minutes, until I calmed down. :o

three2tango 10-05-2002 01:39 AM

Citra is good stuff

Surge was bad had a flatter taste than the mellow yellow

I could have sworn I'd seen Sun Drop, it's a southern fav!

justhey76 10-05-2002 01:49 AM

Orangina. Anybody know if they still make that? It is the best stuff ever. It is carbonated orange juice. No, not orange soda, but orange juice with carbonated water in it. I havent seen it in years.

UGAGal 10-05-2002 04:01 AM

I miss Chick-fil-a sandwiches!! Yeah, I know they are still around but not in the Northwest where I live now! :(

Eat more chikin!

lindsay_iu 10-05-2002 05:49 AM

They definitely still make Orangina. I'm in Indiana, and you can get it in grocery stores, health food stores, and ethnic groceries.

AlphaChiS2K 10-05-2002 08:56 AM

*Amen to Crystal Pepsi

*Tab. So what if it causes cancer?

*Gap Grass perfume. My most favorite scent ever, and they discontinued it. If they ever discontinue Clinque Tenderheart lipstick, I don't know what I'll do.

Munchkin03 10-05-2002 09:42 AM

I see Orangina everywhere. I shop at a Whole Foods Market, and it's one of the few non-organic things they have. Plus, I was in Italy last semester, and they sell Orangina a lot of places.

Rio_Kohitsuji 10-05-2002 09:50 AM

*sighs and wipes away tears* Crystal Pepsi...

Oh, on the Big League Chew, it's all around here in Ohio. Even at some of the mom & pop stores. And if you look around at places like Big Lots and all, you can find Necco Candy Sticks, they're the same thing as the candy cigarettes, just different name :)

KappaKittyCat 10-05-2002 10:00 AM

Munchkin's right about Orangina in Italy. I lived in Florence and my friends used to get that every day with lunch. Munchkin, where did you live?

Not that they've been discontinued-- as far as I know they still exist-- but I miss book orders. Remember when you were in elementary school and you got to order books straight from the publisher for cheap every month? We got them from tons of publishers, something like three every month, and I always ordered at least three books from each order. Books are one thing my mother never refused to buy me. But now I'm too old and there are no book orders for me any more. :(

I used to love those things (eventhough it was mostly lettuce and mayo).
Its also really hard to find Chunky's (those peanut, raisin cluster things). They are so good, and its once in a blue moon that I find one.

and what ever happend to the lick-a-maid pouches with the edible sticks?

KSigkid 10-05-2002 10:31 AM

Crystal Pepsi was awesome - a product that definitely should have been out there for longer.

Collin

DeltaSigStan 10-05-2002 11:23 AM

I recall this candy bar called PB Max, which was like a chocolate and rice crispy block filled with a HUGE amount of peanut butter. It tasted really good.

alphachiohmy 10-05-2002 01:56 PM

The lifesaver holes, that were sweet/sour.

And garbage pail kids cards.

33girl 10-05-2002 04:46 PM

MARATHON BARS. I don't want a million dollars or a new house - I just want a damn Marathon Bar.

zntke - there is tons of Sun Drop up here, come visit.

AlphaChiS2k - if you have a Gap Outlet near you, they might sell Grass (the perfume LOL) there. I feel the same way about Earth and the only place to find it is the outlet.

I forgot all about Chicken Littles. Those things rocked.

three2tango 10-05-2002 04:51 PM

Gap Grass perfume.......I am glad you posted that. Please tell what you like about it. I mean I know it smells like fresh cut grass and all but....... I am going to stop right there and wait for you to reply.

AOIIBrandi 10-05-2002 05:18 PM

Magic Middles from Keebler - short bread cookies with chocolate in the middle.

Rainbow Punch from Kool-Aid

carnation 10-05-2002 05:28 PM

MaltOMeal hot cereal. I ate gallons of it in Texas and Arkansas but if it's still made, it doesn't get here!

juniorgrrl 10-05-2002 06:59 PM

They still make Tab - I see it in 2 liters at the store all the time. I swear, I think I'm the only person under the age of 30 that still likes it. I find that Pepsi One tastes a good bit like it.

MeLikey 10-05-2002 07:30 PM

I used to love this cereal...forget the name though...the cereal consisted of little icecream cones...it had balls for the scoops of icecream and then little cones (the balls and cones were separate) and they were sooo good and sugary! It was discontinued a loooooong time ago.

KappaKittyCat 10-05-2002 07:33 PM

Pound Puppies/Purries

Cabbage Patch Kids

Need I say more?

DeltaSigStan 10-05-2002 07:53 PM

No popples were those toys that expanded and collapsed like springs and could make stuff with them like Mr. Potato head only they were stretchy plastic. I'm not describing them very well.

carnation 10-05-2002 09:08 PM

No way! Popples are those stuffed animals that you can fold inward and they make another toy. Like we have one that goes from a soccer ball to a Popple animal.

Trust me on this! We have 8 from the eighties in the house, all still with their original Popple tags!:D

doubleblue&gold 10-05-2002 09:20 PM

my sweet tooth craves.....

Russell Stover pumpkins......the ones with vanilla fudge in the middle

Also.....
Kraft fudgies.
Fizzies

I am happy to say that book orders are alive and well.....I loved them too, and I really felt old when my daughter brought her first Scholastic Book Club order form home in her little backpack.

Speaking of old, this may really date me, but does anyone remember Chocolite candy bars? They were partially segmented, like a caramello is, but they were just a chunky, normal candy bar shape. They had these tiny bubbles in them that gave them a lighter, sort of crispy texture. They had this very typically 70s sunburst pattern on them, and the wrapper was like that, all these colors in a sunburst pattern.....ahh.....

And how about Skor bars???? Ooooh, my mouth waters just thinking of them......they were that really thick, heavy toffee covered in chocolate. You'd bite into it and it would just kind of crumble off into your mouth in a big hunk.....and when you chewed it, invariably the toffee would get stuck in your molars and you'd practically need a power drill to get them out.......good times!!!!!!!!

And last but not least, what about Red Barn? Maybe it was a local thing, but when I was little (and actually all the way up into high school) we had these restaurants that were actually big red barns, and it was called Red Barn. They had burgers and chicken and fish, and they had little cartoon burgers and chicken and fish that were their symbols just like Ronald McDonald and Grimace. They were the first place out there to get a salad bar.......ooh, a salad bar!!!!!! What an innovation!!!!!!! But we thought it was really groovy at the time. LOVED Red Barn. (Burger Chef too, now that I think of it.)

DeltaSigStan 10-05-2002 09:38 PM

They probably still make new ones, but:

*Encyclopedia Brown
*Choose Your Own Adventure

Dionysus 10-05-2002 09:44 PM

They still have Sun Drop and Skors in my area.

I was thinking the same thing!!! ;)

I also miss Clinque's chapstick, which was discontinued. :(

Fewdfreak 10-06-2002 01:38 AM

They have Skor bars, Sun Drop, and Mamba's here. I love Mamba's, way better than Starburst IMHO...

-Anyone remember the fruit snacks that were called asteroids, they were tiny little things that were green and in a black box. They also made meteorites, that were red. Those were the best!

-I was at the outlet mall for the Gap, I got the little tiny spray bottles (the ones that they sell for 4.50) of the Gap Grass, it was in the old silver packaging, but I stocked up. I think it kinda smells like banana. I remember they used to have like 10 scents though.

-I remember the Lifesaver holes that were sweet and sour. I always used to get those when we would go to the pool. My friends dad was like vehemently opposed to those though, he told her that they were acid, and they would eat right through her tougue, and make a hole in her stomach. I remember asking my mom if that was true, and of course, it wasn't.

-Does anyone remember the cereal that was like little furry bears or something. It was so good, they discontinued it, and me and my mom went online to this discontinued food place, and still couldn't find it. I can't remember the name, but I remember I got a book in one of the boxes, and there was a story about this kid who was going to the fair for his b-day, and it rained, so the ferris wheel got full of water, and so it got cancelled, but the golden bears from the cereal came over, and had a concert in his basement.

-I will admit, I liked clear Pepsi, which is wierd since I am not a big cola drinker, but I liked it, because it was sweeter I think.

what am I talking about then????????

juniorgrrl 10-06-2002 01:45 AM

Those things are called Popoids, I think. They were pretty cool.

xok85xo 10-06-2002 12:01 PM

jello pops & jello pudding pops

KappaKittyCat 10-06-2002 12:29 PM

SADDLE SHOES!

I had a pair of red ones and a pair of black ones. I loved them because they taught me how to distinguish which shoe went on which foot by the way the "saddles" were placed on each shoe.

Oh, and I miss tap. I used to take tap lessons and I quit when I was five ('cuz we moved). What I'd really really love would be a pair of saddle shoes with taps on them (and the ability to tap, of course).
