What do you call your national convention?

I'm currently working on updating the wikipedia page "List of Zeta Phi Beta grand boulés" (including changing e to é) and I noticed that it has some of them as "joint Boulé/Conclave with Phi Beta Sigma".

So Looking at the category the page is in I see the following
National Convention: Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Phi Omega, Delta Sigma Theta and Kappa Kappa Psi/Tau Beta Sigma, Theta Phi Alpha
Grand Boulé: Alpha Kappa Alpha and Zeta Phi Beta
Grand Conclave/Conclave:Kappa Sigma, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta SSigma
Grand Arch Councils: Phi Kappa Psi

What does your GLO call them?

Convention. We're boring like that. :p

National Convention, every 2 years. Conclave is held on off convention years, at Miami University (OH).

Is one event legislative and the other is not?

IrishLake 07-31-2018 02:58 PM

NinjaPoodle 07-31-2018 06:35 PM

Correct! Conclave is centered around our undergrads though some alumni do attend. I attended one Conclave and I was bored.

Convention, with a capital C. We spell Sorority with a capital S, too. ;)

DEVODUDE 08-02-2018 09:04 PM

"International Convention" every even year and "Leadership & Recruitment University" every odd year.

ZBT- "BROTHERHOOD FOR A LIFETIME"

AGDee 08-04-2018 09:59 AM

International Convention (held every other year)

Alpha Kappa Alpha is Boule, not Grand Boule.

Sorry, Grand Boule is Zeta Phi Beta. But I believe are both spelled with an e with an accent, not a bare e.

Also, is the use of Boule to represent a meeting original with Alpha Kappa Alpha? And where did its use come from?

MysticCat 08-08-2018 03:39 PM

Our top legislative body is the National Assembly. The National Assembly meets in the context of the larger National Convention.

Just to keep things confusing.

BossLadyAKA 08-09-2018 12:28 PM

The correct spelling, per our international website, is Boule, as written.

As we are a Greek letter organization, Greek words/phrases/terms are used. Boule = parliament or legislative council.

Among Black orgs, Sigma Pi Phi may have been first to use the term "Boule" in this sense, though I admittedly wouldn't know if any predominately white organizations would have used it prior to Sigma Pi Phi's founding.

Delta Sigma Phi - Convention
Sigma Phi Epsilon - Conclave
Zeta Beta Tau - Convention
Phi Kappa Sigma - Convention

That's all I know off of the top of my head.
