homecoming queen results

A Delta Gamma sister received first runner up in USC-Carolina's homecoming queen pagent. :)

IowaHawkeye 10-03-2002 01:28 AM

up for queen @ Iowa:

former Tri-Delt president/current panhel president
current Chi-O president
Chi-O sister
a GDI

CarolinaDG 10-03-2002 01:49 AM

Yeah, the second runner-up in the pageant was panhell president, and the Homecoming Queen was a Chi-O. The Homecoming King was GDI, 1st runner-up was DTD, I think, and 2nd runner up was Kappa Sig. But I'm not sure, I may be remembering those wrong. Anyway, it's a really big deal that our girl got first runner-up. None of our girls even made the top 7 in it last year. And ours is a judged pageant... talent, interview, the works. We're very proud of Ann-Margaret!:):)

gphiangel624 10-03-2002 02:27 AM

A Gamma Phi Beta won Homecoming Queen this past year, and I believe a member of Kappa Alpha Order won for King (don't quote me on that!)... although, Homecoming doesn't mean that much to our school! We don't have a football team, so we do it with basketball and they aren't too great yet... we just went Division 1!!!

hannahgirl 10-03-2002 09:43 AM

90% of our homecoming court (guys and girls) are greek!!!
We have 10 men and 10 women on court......for the guys.....4 are FIJIs, 3 are TKEs, 1 SAE, 1 Phi Sig, and 1 GDI. for the girls....2 are DGs (me included), 4 are ADPis, 2 AGDs, 1 DST, and 1 GDI.

We had interviews for King and Queen this week and we will find out a week from tomorrow at the dance who won.
Hey but I'm just happy to be on court!!! :D

MoxieGrrl 10-03-2002 09:58 AM

congratulations, hannahgirl! :)

KappaKittyCat 10-03-2002 12:38 PM

We don't have a Homecoming Court. It's not politically correct.

meliss 10-03-2002 12:45 PM

Purdue!

Purdue's Homecoming queen was an Alpha Phi.

I think the king was a Delta Chi, but I'm not sure really.

LeslieAGD 10-03-2002 12:54 PM

Eastern Michigan's "Homcoming Princess" (1st runner up) is an Alpha Gam! :)

GPhiSweetiePie 10-03-2002 01:17 PM

Just a little side-note...the homecoming king this year at Purdue is a SigEp :)

SoProud2BeAnAlphaXi 10-03-2002 01:52 PM

A Particularly Meaningful Homecoming Queen Crowning

An Alpha Xi Delta was just crowned Homecoming Queen at Mount Union College in Ohio, home of our Gamma chapter. What makes this particularly special, though, is that Mt. Union's homecoming festivities coincided with the celebration of Gamma's 100th anniversary, and so our National President and many Gamma alumnae were on hand to watch and enjoy!! Congratulations, and happy 100th birthday to Alpha Xi Delta's Gamma chapter!!!

My sympathies.

CutiePie2000 10-04-2002 03:45 PM

What exactly does a Homecoming Queen or King do?
Are they just crowned for the game or weekend?
Or do they make "appearances" during their yearly reign (i.e. along the lines of Miss America).

Sorry to be ignorant (as evidenced by my questions above), but in Canada, I can tell you that a Homecoming Court would never happen (although we did have Engineer's Queens, etc. in the 1950s). On Canadians campuses, politically correct people would freak out way too much in this day and age.

DeltaSigStan 10-04-2002 04:15 PM

Most of the time, the Homecoming King and/or Queen is from a cultural GLO. I THINK an AChiO won it a couple years ago but I don't remember.

ZTAMiami 10-04-2002 04:31 PM

Miss UM

University of Miami does not have a Homecoming court but this past weekend a Kappa Kappa Gamma was crowned Miss UM. Jenna Edwards will now go on to compete in Miss Florida!:D
There was a nice write up about her in the newspaper today.

Washington and Lee's homecoming is totally different. Selections are based upon fraternity, sorority, or cultural organization nomination, an interview with faculty/alumni, and a biographical sketch. It's not pageant-like at all. More like a scholarship competition. Two of my sisters are nominated! One is our Pi Phi nominee (duh) and the other is the Sigma Nu nominee. I also have two good friends on the court in other GLOs--one is a Theta and the other is a Kappa. Most of the women on the court are Greek. I'll be sure to let you know who wins tomorrow. Last year it was a KD!

Edited to add: The Pi Phi nominee is being escorted by a really cute Lambda Chi! We have been trying to hook them up forever! Hopefully it will work out as they are both seniors now!!!!! So excited about homecoming (I'm going with a Pike)!

ksig600 10-04-2002 05:25 PM

Since we don't have a football team, our homecoming pomp surrounds basketball.

this year our homecoming queen was an AOTT, and king was in Alpha Phi Alpha. The court was 60% greek, including me.
I wonder how we will fare this year.

We just had our Miss Homecoming pageant here at Clemson, where the top ten finalists were chosen from the twenty five contestants. At our Homecoming game, the results of the popular vote will be announced - that's when we find out who are Homecoming Queen is. So far, the top ten includes an ADPi, a Tri-Delt, an AXO, a ZTA, a Gamma Phi, a KKG, and a Theta. Three others are independent. So lots of sororities have a chance to bring home a Homecoming Queen this year!!
Who won?

CarolinaDG 10-04-2002 10:26 PM

Ours is based mainly on scholarship as well. The first round is 30 girls selected solely on applications. This is based on scholarship, community service, and activities. Then, the second round is an interview, and they select the homecoming court from that. 7 girls, 7 guys. And the last part is a pageant, with weight mainly in the talent/interview portion, but some based on confidence, poise, etc... I think it's a really good way to do things, actually

At my school, Homecoming Queen and King was just a one weekend kind of thing where you get pictures taken and show up at the dance. It's pretty much a given (at least back in my days) that greeks would make up the court because in such a large school greeks were the only one group big enough to form a voting block.

That's a shame about the PC people freaking out; it's really harmless fun!

KappaKittyCat, I am also in the Midwest and my school doesn't have a Homecoming Court either! Well we do, just not in the traditional sense...they switched it up a few years ago and now you have to apply or be nominated to court and I believe the Union Board goes through the applications and selects something like 20 people to the Homecoming Court...there's no king or queen or anything. I'm not sure what they do but I know they ride in the parade and appear at the rally! I know one of them last year was a SigEp.

GeekyPenguin 10-05-2002 03:52 PM

We just had homecoming here...normally court alternates between Greeks and housing, this year it was housing. The King, and one Greek represented (out of 10), was a SigEp. The queen works for Campus Programming...I think all the housing candidates were competing heavily against each other, whereas the Greek got all the votes from all the Greeks.

homecoming!!

Well, our court was chosen yesterday!!

The winner is a Kappa, the nominee of Chi Psi. Everyone was rooting for them because Kappa is one of the "top" chapters here and Chi Psi is "not". The King and Queen (the king is just automatically the escort of the Queen, he goes through the interview with her) are the cutest couple and broke a lot of bad Greek stereotypes by dating. Not to mention that she was my DC last year as a freshmen! DCs are like RAs, only more. She was basically my mom last year, and helped me through a lot. She was my Rho Chi too!! So that was amazing!

And the runner-up was from my chapter!!!!!! GO PI PHI! She was our chapter's nominee and was escorted by a Lambda Chi. She looked beautiful and represented us so well! We're going to get an ad in the paper to congratulate her!

chopper816 10-07-2002 01:06 AM

well, this year we lost homecoming, a non greek won, however word on the street is that our candidate was the runner up. the system was messed up, b/c popular vote was like 40 percent of the total points, an interview was another 40, and participation was like 10 and something else was 10. so we arent too happy about that. im was also disappointed to see a good friend of mine lose too. shes a Chi O and she worked hard to win, shes a great girl and totally deserved to win, so homecoming was disappointing. :(

Optimist Prime 10-07-2002 10:32 AM

We're doing our parade with a local boyscout troop.

shadokat 10-07-2002 10:57 AM

Our Homecoming was this weekend. The court is based upon nominations by student organizations, residence halls, etc. You nominate your person and they are your representative. Then they do 2 days of voting to narrow it down to the top 5 finalists, and then 2 days of voting for a winner. This year, the court was made up of one ASA, one local sorority girl and 2 from DKE. The winners were from the International Students Association and the Women's Rugby Team. The girl from the Rugby Team was dressed up in her Rugby outfit, which we thought was b/c they had a game. Later on, we realized that the whole rugby team was there in regular clothes, and that the girl wore her outfit for the team. She looked silly, but I guess it doesn't matter when you're wearing your rugby outfit and the tiara :)

Thanks a bunch! Homecoming at Ole Miss is this weekend. I'll let y'all know what I find out.

MSKKG 10-11-2002 11:58 AM

The Homecoming Queen at Ole Miss is a member of Chi Omega. She and her court are listed on the Ole Miss web site.

ThetaLove 10-11-2002 12:09 PM

The Homecoming Queen at LSU is a Theta!!:D
The King is a Kappa Sig.

I forgot to announce our winners!

The Queen was the GDI - she is an amazing girl! She is a biomedical engineering major and her GPA is over 4.0. Though not greek, she is super involved on campus and a total sweetheart!

Our King was my good friend Mike Brooks. He ROCKS, seriously one of the coolest guys I know. He does everything on campus - writes for the paper/student senate/:DDANCE MARATHON family director:D and sooo much more!

RockChalk 10-11-2002 06:22 PM

KU doesn't do homecoming kings or queens either. I can't say that anyone is really upset about it.

hannahgirl 10-12-2002 08:04 AM

SilverTurtle 10-13-2002 05:16 PM

This was Capital's homecoming weekend, too. We have king & queen, and I don't even remember how they are determined! I remember voting one year for a Phi Beta, but that's about it. So as to how PC it is, I don't know (what factors go into it, popular vote, scholarship, etc.)

Every year, at least since I started in '95, the king has been the Student Government Pres. and the queen is usually in Pi Phi Epsilon, a local sorority. EVERY member of court is either an O.A. or a member of U.P. or both. (O.A. = Orientation Assistant. We have a WEEK long orientation and students run it for the most part. So if you're an OA every one of the freshman gets to know you. If you do it for 2-3 years, then ALL of the underclassmen know you. U.P.=University Programming. This is the student org. that helps run ALL of the university sponsored social events. So if you go to any of them, you recognize UP people.) The court is usually made up entirely greeks as well, or close to it.

This year Phi Beta had THREE people on court! Their president, social chair and service chair. None of them won, but that is still awesome!

sugar and spice 10-22-2002 12:53 AM

A DG was Homecoming Queen here at the University of Wisconsin, too!

I'm not sure how the King and Queen are selected -- I know that a panel of judges selects you to be on court, and I wouldn't be surprised if the judges also select the King and Queen. I'm pretty sure we don't do it by vote.

But Tri Delta won the overall Homecoming competition, which completes our 2002 Greek Triple Crown (we won Derby Days and Greek Week in the spring)!

AXWhoah 10-22-2002 03:13 AM

Bobcats Senior Honorary who is in charge of the homecoming court came by tonight during our dinner and announced that our candidate, Betsy, has advanced to the finals of homecoming queen. She's one of 5 women chosen. We all screamed we were so excited! We're all so excited to have someone on court. There are only 5 spots and there are 12 sororities on campus plus various other orgs that have candidates so not all of them can have one on court. (By the way I'm in Tucson at the UArizona)
