CanadianTeke 10-02-2002 06:33 PM

The1calledTKE 10-02-2002 06:38 PM

You must be excited hockey is back.

CanadianTeke 10-02-2002 06:45 PM

you have no idea how excited---our first brotherhood event of the year is watching the Leafs Senz game--there is a huge rivalry between those two teams and because half of our brothers are from Toronto and the other half Ottawa it is always alot of fun!

The1calledTKE 10-02-2002 06:46 PM

Is this the year the Leafs or any Canadian team takes the cup?

CanadianTeke 10-02-2002 06:47 PM

the Leafs haven't made it to the cup since 1967 so we are more than due!

The1calledTKE 10-02-2002 06:49 PM

Yes true, do you theink the Avalanche are as strong this year?

CanadianTeke 10-02-2002 06:56 PM

they traded away chris drury this afternoon to the flames, so they aren't as strong as they were, nobody will beat detroit again they have a powerhouse team reminisent of the 1970's Montreal Dynasty. It would be awesome if a smaller market team like edmonton or calgary could win the cup but it is not likly to happen.

The1calledTKE 10-02-2002 06:59 PM

The red wings are usually good. You never know with the smaller teams . Some of the unknow players they have might end up to be stars. Look at baseball and the Twins for proof miracles can happen.

CanadianTeke 10-02-2002 07:02 PM

the thing with teams like edmonton and calgary is that they act like farm teams for the rest of the league, they bring in young players who turn out to be really good and then they leave the smaller team for a bigger team that can afford them. so they get great players, edmonton has brought some of the best players into the league, Like Wayne Gretzky they just can't afford to keep them around for much more then 2 or 3 years.

The1calledTKE 10-02-2002 07:06 PM

True but they can hope that they can keep them for those couple years and win something. Look what Wayne Gretzky did for Edmington.

CanadianTeke 10-02-2002 07:07 PM

it's true, they have won the cup before they have good players a good goalie it is possible depending on teams like detroit

The1calledTKE 10-02-2002 07:10 PM

Basically just pray the have potential Wayne Gretzky's that haven't been seen yet.

CanadianTeke 10-02-2002 07:13 PM

thats about it, calgary has iginla who is probably the best shot in the league, he was the MVP this year so they have potential especially with the aquirement of drury.

The1calledTKE 10-02-2002 07:14 PM

Guess we will have an idea by mid season but thats awhile away.

CanadianTeke 10-02-2002 07:16 PM

it's true, nothing is for certain really until the playoffs and thay is 8 months away.

The1calledTKE 10-02-2002 07:19 PM

I won't realy follow hockey til baseball is over but thats not to far away.

CanadianTeke 10-02-2002 07:21 PM

i don't follow baseball---i follow NHL, CFL, NFL

The1calledTKE 10-02-2002 07:23 PM

lol CFL. There is no way I could ever watch that down here unless I had a satelite dish. CFL is like the minors leagues for the NFL.

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 01:29 AM

obviosuly the CFL is a farm league, it has produced so good players though, Doug Flutie, Rocket Ismail et al. I like it more than the NFL, bigger field one less down' slightly different rules, it is a far more open game, not as much BS as the NFL. and as the slogan goes "we have bigger balls"!!

The1calledTKE 10-03-2002 01:31 AM

Do CFL games sale out?

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 01:33 AM

some cities yeah it does, like winnipeg it is the only team they got in places like Toronto the Argos games never get close to sold out, to close to buffalo.

The1calledTKE 10-03-2002 01:36 AM

What is their equivilant to the superbowl?

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 10:40 AM

the Grey cup is the equivilant, it is a cup given to the league by Lord Albert Henery Earl Grey in 1909.

The1calledTKE 10-03-2002 10:44 AM

The CFL is that old???

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 10:49 AM

the first game of football played in North America was at McGill University in Montreal Quebec. Which then Challenged Harvard to a game introducing it to the American Public. Hate to say it boys but football is Canadian!

The1calledTKE 10-03-2002 10:50 AM

Lol but the Americans took it over and improved it. :D lol

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 10:56 AM

both versions are good, CFL is more open, bigger field(110 yards), one less down, no fair catch rule, at the same time the NFL has higher calibre players, more strategy etc so both are good.

The1calledTKE 10-03-2002 11:01 AM

Who played hockey first?

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 11:04 AM

The modern sport of Ice Hockey was developed in Halifax Nova Scotia in about 1870

The1calledTKE 10-03-2002 11:14 AM

At least part of the NHL is in Canada. How many teams you have up there? 4?

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 11:16 AM

6, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Montreal and of course Toronto.

The1calledTKE 10-03-2002 11:18 AM

Now the NFL needs some teams up there but I think that might help to kill the CFL if that happend

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 11:20 AM

alot of people have talked about bringing a team to Toronto but then the Argos would defenitly die. I think the CFL and the NFL have some sort of a agreement, i think the NFL owns the CFL or at least controlling interest.

The1calledTKE 10-03-2002 11:27 AM

Yah I am not sure if the NFL will do well most professional sports teams in Canada don't do well except for maybe hockey.

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 11:29 AM

even then 10 years ago there were teams in Winnipeg and Quebec City, The Jays were doing well while they were winning but there is no interest in a losing team.

The1calledTKE 10-03-2002 11:30 AM

How about the Toronto Raptors?lol

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 11:31 AM

the raps games sell out so they are doing something right for now, there is alot of interest in basketball here.

The1calledTKE 10-03-2002 11:34 AM

I hear a moose hunt show is popular up there. We have an exachange student from Canada and she said her dad watched it all the time.

CanadianTeke 10-03-2002 11:37 AM

i don't know of any moose hunt show, but it probably depends on where she is from. Moose hunting is popular though.
