Let's see how far we get..
WHOOOO HOOOO!!!!!
Okay, here's the deal. I got ahold of my bud "E" and she's totally psyched about getting (hopefully) a national sorority on our campus. *nods happily* Tomorrow we're going to speak w/the Greek Life Advisor (who happens to highly dislike Greeks, figure that one  ) and get the paperwork to be filled out and etc. For being a small campus they require 12 people that will be members if formed (thankfully we've got plenty-o-prospects) and then after we finish w/all that good stuff then we will have to write to the NPH about having someone come to campus. <---- that's what we're scared about. I mean, what happens if a NPC sorority isn't interested?? *worries* Oh well, we're hoping to have the little stuff finished by December. Well, this is the beginning...why am I feeling scared now? :) :p , Kayla |
Hey! You've definitely got to read the thread titled "Rush at UCSC" (at least, I think that's what it's called...just do a search and you'll find it--it's the one where there's about 700 replies). It's about a girl who did the same thing you want to do.
Oh, and here's wishing you bonne chance! :) |
Achtungbaby80- You still dating Marty? <--has something funny to tell ye :)
Well, right now the 'big 3' has set our sights on AZiD for now. :) We can't have AXO, XO, or DZ on campus, we really do not want to tick off the locals w/the similar names. *shrugs* We have the 1st step in the process on the go now..*nods* :) Now it's just getting approval for a NPC colony is the next obstacle..oh well :) :) -wants her own letters, Kayla |
If the AZD thing doesn't work out (and if you're *absolutely sure* you won't go for DZ ;) ), I think you should consider Phi Mu. One of my very best friends is a Phi Mu, and from what I know, it's awesome. It's also a VERY strong group nationally, and that's especially important when starting a new chapter.
Again, good luck! :D |
It's not the fact we wouldn't -want- to go DZ..but..there's a local by the name of Delta Theta, and we wouldn't want people getting us confused and all and make them upset. Afterall, we need their vote to let us 'in' the All Greek Council to be recognized at school. :) We actually did look at Phi Mu, I mean, I love the Phi Mu's on here so that helped, heh. But one of the main girls didn't like pink  , it's always the little things! :p But who knows, it's just the beginning!!!!!!! :) :) :)
|
What are the local sororities on your campus besides Delta Theta?
Do they have plans to affiliate with national groups? -M |
Quote:
OK, so Phi Mu's out 'cause you don't like pink...well, how about looking into Alpha Gamma Delta? I'm impressed with their organization, too (obviously, 'cause that was one of the houses I preffed!). And pink isn't one of their colors, either! ;) |

Achtung- Hey...you were at the party (The one in the 'TKE' apartment up on the hill)?? I think I was at the one you were at, cause it was only a couple weeks ago also!! Except I left around 10ish. I asked a member if they were even affliated w/DZ and she had no clue so...yeah.. :p Now it's just trying to get 12 girls all prepped and psyched about picking out at least 3 hopeful nationals. Oye!! Right now it's 1.Alpha Xi Delta 2. Phi Mu (I'm personally keeping them in, I LIKE pink lol) 3. is up for grabs. I was really impressed w/DZ and XO but....the locals w/similar names would just cause a situation that we all do not want to see come about. I'm meeting up w/Erica and Krystal today so hopefully we can get some work finished..sheesh!!! Kayla |
AXiD rocks:) but I am a little partial myself(<--- shameless plug)! ? I do know AXiD expands a lot- I think there were 5 either colonizations or charters this year alone...but I could be wrong:) New Members aren't up to speed at first:):)
Whatever you choose:) Don't let it be based on colors:) and pick some group that represents the group the most:) Also, Kappa Kappa Gamma is a great orginization:) So check that out! (<---shameless plug #2, my sister is a Kappa) |
TKE209Sweethrt
How wonderful for you and your future sisters. Congratulations on all your hard work! I hope you find the sisterhood that you deserve! Much Panhellenic Love, violets P.S. I actually would not be overly concerned with the Greek Letters being similar to other chapters..do not exclude a sorority you like because of it. I have advised a small northeastern school that had two NPC"Alpha" chapters. Eventually, and after much kicking and screaming, two good-sized locals decided to "go National" they also chose sororities with "Alpha" as the first letter. It was absolutely fine. They meshed with the groups and the two other chapters were simply happy they found the right fit. Remember, that when you bring a National to campus it has a cache all it own, and can establish itself quickly among a group of locals so don't worry about things like letters and colors, look for sisterhood, heritage and values. Congrats and good luck. |
Don't worry all, I'm not ruling every sorority out due to their letters and/or colors. -But- since votes are needed for us to be recognized we're not wanting to step on any toes, at least as of yet. We've already lost one vote. (Due to the Prez dating my ex-psycho fiance, ) I'm praying that since the Greek Life is dying on campus they'll see this as a good sign and not us trying to steal PNM's or something absurd like that. Thankfully we all have friends in each sorority that can help us out by persuading their sisters to let this through.
|
Oh I'm so sorry you've already lost a vote due to a personal situation. Some people just cannot seperate their worlds from everybody else's:mad:
Keep your head up, and everyone will be duly impressed with how you handle the situation. Good luck, this will be such an exciting journey for you! Greek love, violets |
Listen to Violets--she always gives good advice.
That's really bad that one group would vote against you wanting to expand just because of something that has nothing to do with the situation. Unfortunately, what can you do about it? I guess there'll always be people who dwell on silly things that don't amount to a hill of beans and ruin it for other people. |

What was the funny thing? |
Good luck!

You've gotta PM me when you're gonna come up next, I practically live there, and if I'm not mistaken that was the Delta Theta Open rush that night :) |
 Well, so much for going the '12 member rule' w/o going local. The University has the deal that we -have- to become a local and etc just to get a seat in AGC (All Greek Council). Oye..so..that also means we have to do that just so we can have the chance to petition for a National. It goes -->Student Services --> then the Dean -->then the Board of Trustees -->then to the AGC. Oye. And the next time the Trustees meet is in January...gag. Sooo..... the paper process continues..
|
TKE209Sweethrt,
Keep your head up honey, it's all worth it in the end. In fact, it's worth it right now. Not many women your age get to undertake such a huge project, you are already developing skills that you will be able to call upon for the rest of your life. Just one of the many benefits of Greek Life! Good luck. violets |
Could you form an interest group for a national sorority, but make sure the university knows it's a *local* interest group? :D I mean, there's ways around things if you want to get creative.
All I can say is, you've got your work cut out for you! From what I've heard, Rio has a rule against everything and if they don't have one, they'll make one quick. :p No matter what, though, keep trying--they've got to back down sooner or later! And keep us updated...I'm dying to know how it goes. |
Heh heh... as AchtungBaby said, there are ways around things. That is, you can form a local but make it clear to all your members and rushees that your goal is to go national.
I'm having fun imagining names for your group ... Gamma Nu, "going national," Tau Lambda, "temporarily local," Phi Nu Pi Chi Sorority (Future NPC sorority) ... ;) |
Fuzzie- Yep, that is the one plus of being made to start out as a local! The fun of picking various letters and etc!! I was thinking..Kappa Epsilon Gamma...lol..only Greeks could figure that one out..lol. Or maybe even the Lambda Lambda Lambda... *gets mischievous*
Hopefully this will be all be said and done before I graduate!! Oye!! Oh, quick thing, see, once we approach the S.S advisor w/our constitution and etc, she says yea or nay, then it goes to the Dean and he chooses if there needs to be another soro on campus, then is goes to the Board of Trustees for the final say. This is getting irritating!!! BUT, thankfully my parents are all chummy w/the Trustees. *shouts graces to God* For once I am happy that my family is involved in politics as much as they are!! :) :) :) At the moment I'm trying to get ahold of as many consitutions, creeds and etc to just see how theirs is and then model ours off of probably a mixture of them! ;) Also, the good thing w/me and the SS advisor is that she loves me to death...which doesn't hurt a bit. Oh, Achtung, yes...you are completely correct about the Rio-law making process... last year we were allowed to have those George Foreman grills...now...we're not allowed. Figures. Oh, another thing, there's a group of freshman boys trying to get a new fraternity on campus. But, this is where I personally think they're idiots...they didn't even RUSH -ANY- fraternities to see even if they like any of the guys!! Plus, they're freshman!! Also, this is the funny thing though, since they're trying to bring another on, yet, have no close friends in any of the older fraternities, I'm afraid they are going to get shut down. *shrugs* Okay, now I'm rambling..and I have to continue the search of the elusive consit's.... Running to class now, Kayla |

Here's my shameless plug: If you want to find out more about the fantastic organization of Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity, check out our website: www.alphagammadelta.org. In case you were wondering, our colors are red, buff (pale yellow), and green...very cheerful! I also wanted to add---keep an open mind about all of the NPC organizations. You might be missing out on a wonderful sorority if you count it out just because of the colors. It's not like you have to constantly wear pink if you go Phi Mu, or pink and green if you go DZ, or red, buff, and green if you go Alpha Gam. Good luck to you! :) |
Ya know, it's kinda fun getting to learn about everyones sororities!!! And also, from just going from page to page, I've learned my greek alphabet backwards and forwords. I'm gonna be taking a break (hopefully) for a couple days from the web-searching and paper-writing soro process. Right now (believe it or not) my bf is feeling kinda jealous that I'm taking much more time out w/my girls than him and his bros! Can't make anyone happy!! LOL :)
Oh, AlphaGam, I checked out the site :) Pretty cool :) OH!!! Quick thing...does anyone know of a site where I can find some makeshift consitiutions/creeds/etc????? love and not-chosen-yet-maybe-one-day greek letters-go-here, Kayla |
You could probably look at different sororities' national web pages and sort of model your creed & constitution after those.
|
OK, My Turn!!
Ok, I've been reading silently, and now have to add my shameless plug for Alpha Sigma Tau!! Our website is www.alphasigmatau.org but I warn you now. . .it's being redone so the basic info is there, but some other more "detailed" pages are still down.
As far as looking at creeds, etc. for your "local", look for colleges that have local sororities. Most of those Panhellenic sites will have info and/or links to the local's website, so you could get info there. There is also a website that has all kinds of info about all kinds of local sororities. It's address is www.geocities.com/localsororities This could get you lots more info. Please keep us informed of what happens!! By the way, what school do you go to? |
Re: OK, My Turn!!
Quote:
Here's some info about it: 5 local sororities (1 formally used to be Chi Omega) 2 national fraternities (Tau Kappa Epsilon & Alpha Sigma Phi) and 1 local fraternity People normally go here to make up a major and/or become a teacher or a nurse (no lie, lol) Now, back to my search-o-papers, Kayla ps, what's best for a cold? |
I just wanted to add a vote of encouragement...Everyone has given you great advice...So just have fun with doing it and keep all your options open.
|
Update :)
We just got another girl!! So far we have 6 very excited ladies!! (only 6 more to go :) ) Now the problem is just dividing up the 'chores' of getting everything set up amongst them all! Before, I was getting everything done..now everyone is wanting a part of it! Good deal..... Oh, the new girl we have in an RA (Resident Advisor) so...now we can get a room in one of the dorms. So, that's always nice to have :) And...so far we have the backing of -all- the fraternities and 3 out of the 5 sororities so far. :) Oh, another thing, so far fundraising has already begun! We have the support from 4 Volunteer Fire Dept's and many of the local buinesses (sp??)! :) |

GRRR.
I'm glad I'm writing this after I had some time to cool off. Well, if you're all curious what happened..here it is. When I was walking cross campus today I ran into Erika (one of my buds in doing this) and me and her started talking about the basic jist and some planning ideas. Well, unfortunetly, one of the girls from a local sorority (who's been practically stalking me to pledge her glo.. ) and she then gave us the impression that we weren't wlecome in the AGC. After I pointed out that we were doing this in hopes to have a national sorority come to campus she then got on her highhorse saying we didn't need any more sororites on campus and etc. Then I told her that we were focusing basically on a lot of community service (which we are) and then she suggested that we start a chapter of a co-ed service glo. I was like, "What?? Don't you get it? We want to be in a s-i-s-t-e-r-h-o-o-d and not your crappy group!" of course, this was all going on in my mind. And on top of that she was enjoying informing us that we needed their vote to get in the AGC. Now it's just getting irritating. I mean, there's nothing -bad- about the other GLO's but we've all rushed (and been given bids) but we all share that same feeling , we just didn't feel a connection w/that GLO. I mean personally, I never had the aspirations to wear -those- letters of the other glo's. I guess some people just do not understand that.
|
She probably sees your new sorority as a threat, especially if the fraternities are excited about it. ;)
I'm not dissing service GLOs, but some people want the social aspect, too, and my national (which I'm sure isn't the only one) encourages us to do community service. In fact, my chapter *requires* 5-10 service hours per semester. There's no rule that says you can't help the community out AND be social! :p Maybe you do need that girl's sorority's vote, but maybe her sisters don't feel the same way she does. |
If you're already established on campus, why would anyone worry about your affiliating with an NPC group? It's not like you're trying to start another group. Maybe they're just a little jealous?
Alpha Xi Delta does colonize locals, They're in the process of doing it at UTEP. Good luck however things turn out. |
doubleblue&gold- We're not even a local yet :) But...we're working on it..and then hoping to have a national colonize us. :)
achtungbaby- Oh, don't worry, we'll be plenty social..lol.. :) But we do want to have some requirements like a certain amount of hours of community service in place for us. Oh, and you might have seen her 'round campus..she stalks the pnm's.. But yes, hopefully the other sisters won't see us as much of a threat. Each glo has a certain type of people in it. And the group that I fall in isn't her's, no matter how much she tries to rush me, she still freaks me out..lol Thankfully I do have a very good friend in the same glo that will speak in our behalf along w/the other sororites. So..yeah.. *shrugs* |

There's always got to be one person that makes things difficult, but hopefully her sisters will talk some sense into her. |
Oh, another update on the 'stalker' girl. Well, I was still fuming when I seen her thursday night (we have band together) and I ran into her sorority sister. Well, I found out that she's getting upset w/her also because she's trying to run the whole organization when she only been a member for a year. So, I was like, "I'm kinda having problems w/her too..." and proceeded to tell her what happened. She just got even more upset and I have a feeling that she ripped her a new one. lol! Oh, remember when I told you guys about the loss of a vote from the soro that had the prez dating my psycho ex? Well, a girl that I talk to all the time is apart of the association (in which I just found out like the same day!) and I guess the prez was prez last year and now she's practically disowned her own soro! And that they're even having trouble w/my former pledge sister (who's now pledging them)! I'll probably ask her about what she thinks about the new soro deal tuesday when we have class together. *nods* :)
Oh, we've picked out our name and stuff (so far). We are going to be Kappa Gamma Xi Colors: navy, light blue, and silver Mascot: cresent moon w/an angel Believe it or not, I can't remember anything else..lol..I have it written somewhere... :D KGX love, Kayla |
TKESweetheart,
I'm glad things are beginning to fall into place for you! I wish you continued success! |
Update once more
Well, so far here's the support:
We have 'yes' votes from 3 out of the 8 GLO's on campus. But, I have a feeling that we will have 3 more 'yes' votes from the soro's. So if we get 6 out of the 8, we're in :) I spoke w/one of the sisters of a sorority and she said that she is going to bring up us at a meeting tonight and that we have a high chance to getting through the AGC. :) Yippee! We also have another girl :) I got her.. :p Oh, Texas*Princess, thanks for your ongoing support!! :) -Kayla |
hmmm
Hey Kayla,
What National GLO are you guys interested in? Just so you know, A xi D colors are dark blue, light blue, and gold, so pretty close to the ones you chose :) heheheh ( by the way, I would love to come home and there be an Alpha Xi chapter :) :) :)) hahaha....let me know if i can help you on the whole constitution thing :) Good luck, Jodie M. P.S. Do i know any of the girls that are doing this with you>? |
