Most memorable songs/chants
When you went through rush, what were some of the most memorable songs or chants?
For me, I will never forget... "Kaaaapa, kaaaaapa, kaaaapa gaaaamma.. I am so haaaaappy that I aaaaaaammmmaa..." :) Also, Tri Delt did a Jimmy Buffet themed rush skit so they rewrote Cheeseburger in Paradise as Tri Deltas in Paradise. Very cute! I was singing it for days! |
My two were:
"I really hate to leave ya but I really must say, Goodbye from Z-T-A" and the one that we can't ever get out of our heads around here (to a fault, it's ridiculous!) is: "Tri-Delta... do do do... Tri-Delta... do do do... Tri-Delta Tri-Delta do do do do do Delta D-D" I've even started singing it with DG in it: Delta G... do do do... Delta G... do do do... Delta G Delta do do do do do do Delta DG! ... yeah, it doesn't fit at all, but it gets stuck. |

I loved the Tri-Delta chant that ended, "...All we want is pledging you to Delta Delta Delta" All the girls would make the Delta sign with their hands....so fun. Does anyone know the whole chant? I still mumble it in my head whenever anyone on a GC rush thread goes DDD. Our rho chis sang a song for each sorority each day before parties started and it will never get out of my head...it went like this:

Delta Phi Epsilon is the only sorority that I remember singing/chanting during Rush.
This one sticks out the most in my head: D, D, D with a Phi Phi, Phi, Phi with an E D with a Phi, Phi with an E D Phi E |
My roomie was a DG and while they didn't sing it at Rush, I always had it in my head:

I just remembered parts of two songs that I got so hooked on. I think they were both Chi O...went something like this...

We actually use the "Delta Gamma born and bred" one at our school. And I think you are mixing up two different Delta Gamma ones, but I may just not have heard of it. I know we do Delta, Delta Gamma I'm so happy, that I amma... and then we do the Rah Rah for DG seperately. But I'm not absolutely sure. The other one that both us and KD use goes like this:
D-E-L-T-A Delta D-E-L-T-A G-A-Double M-A Gamma G-A-Double M-A We are the Delta Gammas We wear the bronze, pink, and blue We are the Delta Gammas Don't you wanna be DG, too? KD just says "We are the ones for you" instead of bronze, pink, and blue FINALLY... The KD one that they used second round that I got stuck in my mind is K-A-Y D-E-E K is for Kappa, D is for Delta We are the Kappa Delta Girls We are so Happy to meet you, Come out and greet you, We are the Kappa Delta Girls... Then there's more, but it's been a while since I rushed, so I forget... but if I remembered that much... well, yeah, it stuck. |

What's with the "spelled X-I, pronounced Ka-zee? What is the Ka part all about? I preffed Alpha Xi and we never put a Ka before the Xi?!? Help! I'm confused!!!

Most people say "zee" as the pronunciation for Xi (me, for one), although I'm sure a Greek scholar would tell you that properly it is "kzee." So "ka-zee" is basically just saying that really slowly and drawn out.

It's also a southern drawl thing (correct me if I'm wrong here). But...
In Kappa, our BX Chapter is at UTA in Texas and our DX Chapter is at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. The CMU girls pronounce it "ZEE," but the Southerners all pronounce theirs "ka-ZEE." The funniest thing is that when reading a list of chapters during Convention, one of our Midwestern Field Representatives who has a neutral bias called the CMU chapter "Delta ZEE" and the UTA chapter "Beta ka-ZEE." Guess she got corrected a time or three when she was down there. |

Remember this song where-ever you may be We hope you'll be an Alpha X! Kind of funny that so many groups are singing the I'm ____born and bred song. That is the University of Oklahoma's Fight Song! |

The AXO girls at my school did a rewording of the Jimmy Buffett song "I Don't Know"...
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know where I'm-a gonna go, but I'm thinking A Chi O! EVERYONE sang it ALL week long and it still gets stuck in my head. There is also a Chi Omega chant I love that goes AY! AY! AY! but I don't know ANY of the words haha. |

LOL - "Boom Boom" was one of our best-loved ADPi songs, too! One of my favorite college memories is a Tri-Delta friend singing "Boom Boom" at the Pika house, and getting her sisters really upset with her!
We also did: Alpha, Alpha, Delta Pi We're the best and That's no lie We have a sisterhood That's really GREAT ADPi, you sure do rate (then we sang two parts, the second being:) I want to be an ADPi girl It's the best that I have found I want to SHOUT throughout the campus That ADPi's the best in town! |
Alpha Gam does the "With an A" song, too:

I didn't go through formal recruitment, so I've never really heard any of the other chapters' songs (except for the "Pi, Pi, Beta Phi" one, which I don't know the words to), and when we're walking to our houses on Bid Day, we're all trying to out-sing each other so it's hard to pick up on them then. I always have AGD songs stuck in my head for weeks after recruitment, though! It's been at least 14 years since I last heard this, but the one I remember is Phi Mu's. Unfortunately I don't remember the rest of it. The Phi Mus at Ga. State used to sing:
