Weird Hair Color

What is your chapter's attitude toward weird hair color? I would love to dye my hair bleach blonde, fading to pink fading to black, but of course i'll read up on chapter policy first. Worst come to worst, it';ll be over Christmas break....

PandaOnProzac 09-19-2002 06:03 PM

Isn't that considered discrimination?

My roomate goes extreme in his hair color. Right now it's green but sometimes he goes blue.

kddani 09-19-2002 06:07 PM

I don't think it should matter, but try not to have it this way for rush. I might get flamed for this. I believe everyone should be able to be an individual. But at rush, you don't want to be a distraction or stick out too much.

Skchickie 09-19-2002 06:09 PM

yeah I would never have it that way for rush....

sororitygirl2 09-19-2002 06:17 PM

The two girls I know of who went through recruitment with extreme hair color on my campus were invited back to every house each round. However, I do not think it would usually be a good idea as an active or as a PNM to have crazy hair color during recruitment, of course.

I think your hair idea sounds like it could be really fun! Are you going to have a professional do it? It seems like that might be a difficult effect to attempt on your own!

nauadpi 09-19-2002 07:20 PM

I know some of my sisters have gone really random in hair colors...It is very much a personal choice and how they express themselves.

valkyrie 09-19-2002 07:30 PM

Do chapters really have official "policies" with respect to things like hair color? I would think that your sisters would love and support you no matter what color your hair, and I also think that hair and clothing choices are fun ways to express yourself -- especially when you're in school and you have the freedom to do it if you want. I would go so far as to say that I don't think it matters during rush either.

Munchkin03 09-19-2002 07:36 PM

I don't know if I would want to be in a chapter that discriminated against me because of my hair color. Not saying that this is the case, but hey. If a chapter were to do it, it sounds pretty close-minded to me.

Skchickie 09-19-2002 08:02 PM

thanks you guys for such positive responses! I was kind of worried about it because I know how people can get an image of a sorority just by one member.... although I remember that when I saw sisters with unusual hair color, it made me want to join that sorority! I have a tendency to not want to piss anyone off.... I'm a peacekeeper :) thanks all!

One semester, we pledged a blonde and she showed up at initiation as a redhead. It was a nice shade of red, but still kind of a shock.
Talk to your sisters and get an idea of what they think about such a drastic change.

Optimist Prime 09-20-2002 10:10 AM

I like redheads :)

MoxieGrrl 09-20-2002 10:13 AM

Well, look at this way.....you aren't posing for Playboy wearing your letters. So in the grand scheme of things, crazy colored hair is a-ok. Plus, what you want to do with your hair sounds cute! :)

One of the girls that just went through rush at my school had hair similar to what you want to do... and we really really really liked her.. she ended up somewhere but... Ne way just thought I'd share. :)

SKchickie-

I just thought that I would tell you, I just finished helping out with Gamma Theta's (LB State) formal recruitment and one of our girls (Kinsey) had very blonde hair with maroon (!) chunks in it and it looked soooo awesome!!!

Also, one of my pledge sisters (Allegra) went through formal recruitment with me and had pink streaks in her hair, and every house loved her!!!

I say go for the color........it sounds very cool, kind of like a blonde, punky Kelly Osbourne!!!

Love in Sigma,
Lil Snakey K

Go for it! The time to do experimentation is now when you are in college, not after university when you are applying for jobs and are expected to have a bit more of a professional appearance.
Hair grows and you can always change it.

SKRae 09-23-2002 08:20 PM

Awsome idea!!!!!! I love individuality, good luck and let me know how it turns out if you do (did) it!

Optimist Prime 09-23-2002 08:26 PM

will it be your sorority colors? that would look spiffy.

Skchickie 09-23-2002 08:33 PM

I'm a little unhappy, because they're making it out to be a big deal. I really don't think it's a big deal at all, I let them know out of courtesy and now they may not let me do it. It's MY hair, after all... and well, frankly a place that doesn't let me be myself is not for me.... but we'll see what the verdict is first.

Erin

PS, I'll post picks when I get it done....

TKESweetheart 10-07-2002 07:39 PM

there are better things to worry about....

one of my sisters had blue hair and a tatoo(before it was popular). SHe is the nicest person you'll ever meet. She was never judgmental......

EM1843 10-07-2002 08:00 PM

Gotta say I love the hair...:)

MsVixen 10-07-2002 09:28 PM

get the opinion of some of your sisters.. i personally think that it would look super wicked, but its totally up to you, and what your chapter is accepting of..

GreekLetterGirl 10-07-2002 09:44 PM

as for stand out hair color, I can relate, I spent part of my summer in So Cal with my Bestest Friend from Freshman year and she had these AWESOME punk rocker red streaks in her hair AKA bitch streaks as we refered to them the whole time i was there I loved them, the day before I flew home I got the same thing done, I had ULTRA blonde hair and when I got home it had red, eggplant, pink, and blonde and dark brown in it!!!!! No one expected me to do this so it was a shock, ( IE my parents and my ex about fell out of their chairs when they saw me) but it is HAIR you are changing your appearnce NOT YOU !!!!

JUST remeber that and you will be ok :)
best of luck !!!
